Cisco Firewall :: Dual ISP And Inbound NAT ASA5505 8.2

Oct 30, 2012

I have setup an ASA5505 running 8.2 with dual ISP's

Primary link is the current live static route out and the backup picks up if the primary fails. That all works great However I have an issue with inbound NAT rules

I have configured an inbound static on the primary which works great

static (inside,primary) *.*.*.* 10.1.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 access-list outside_access_in line 2 extended permit tcp any host *.*.*.* eq 3389 (hitcnt=4)

Question? With the primary link active and the default route pointing out through the primary, am I able to configure an inbound NAT to the same inside host 10.1.1.1
on the backup link?

If the primary fails users will need to be able to connect inbound to this service

When I try to set it up I got this error ERROR: Static PAT using the interface requires the use of the 'interface' keyword instead of the interface IP address

So I tried that and got this error WARNING: All traffic destined to the IP address of the backup interface is being redirected. WARNING: Users will not be able to access any service enabled on the backup interface.

So what is the best practice for configuring inbound NAT for a dual ISP configured ASA

I can choose a backup interface in ASDM. It even says dual ISP enabled. Why cant there be a guide or simple configuration example or am I the only one looking for this kind of solution?

Cisco WAN :: ASA5505 / Setting Access Policies Dual Internet Connections

I'm trying to set up a S2S VPN between two ASA5505 SP units running ASA Version 8.2(1). I've ordered additional ADSL2 lines to handle this traffic and I'm having troubles with the configuration for the additional PPPoE connection. Here is are extracts from my current config; First the interface vlans

!
interface Vlan1
nameif inside
security-level 100
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

[code]....

The result being that I can ping the OUTSIDE interface, but get no reply from the VPN interface. I've checked ADSL lines, they are up. The two PPPoE sessions are logged in and active. I can even see the ICMP packets hit the VPN interface, but there is no reply.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 8.3 Dynamic Policy NAT

Apr 11, 2011

I have devices on Inside interface of ASA that need to get to Internet to get ntp. Hence I want to set up dynamic pat (interface overload) which 8.3 style would be

-object network obj_NTP-DEV
-host 192.168.1.250
-nat (INSIDE,INTERNET) dynamic interface

But I need to limit nat to only Internet destined traffic on ntp port not all ports for traffic from 192.168.1.250.I'm not using this nat set up to control outbound access - I also have incoming RA VPN tunnels to the box and traffic from these sources need to be able to get to 192.168.1.250 and the above simple set up would break that access as all traffic involving 192.168.1.250 would get nat'd

Reading the doco I've sent myself round in a loops trying to figure how you are meant to do such a  " Dynamic Policy NAT (overload)" call it what you will config in 8.3

Cisco Firewall :: Users Behind ASA5505 Firewall Are Unable To Access Internet

Feb 24, 2011

I have a normal setup of ASA5505 (without security license) connected behind an internet router. From the ASA5505 console I can ping the Internet. However, users behind the Firewall on the internal LAN, cannot ping the Internet even though NATing is configured. The users can ping the Inside interface of the Firewall so there is no internal reachability problem. In addition, I noticed that the NAT inside access list is not having any hit counts at all when users are trying to reach the internet.

When i replace the ASA5505 with a router with NAT overload configuration on it, the setup works normally and users are able to browse the internet.

The ASA5505 configuration is shown below.

hostname Firewall

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Can't Ping New Firewall On Inside Interface

Jul 14, 2011

I've recently upgraded my old firewall from a PIX to an ASA5505 and have been trying to match up the configuration settings to no avail. I have is that I can't ping the new firewall on it's inside interface, despite having "icmp permit any inside" in the running config. Secondly, the server I have on there ("Sar") can't connect out to the internet.I've included the ASA's running config incase anybody can see if something stands out. I have a feeling it's either not letting anything onto the inside interface, or there is no nat going on. Lastly (and possibly relevant), the firewall is actually going at the end of a vlan, which is different to the firewall's inside vlan number. I don't know if this is actually the problem because the server can't connect out even if connected directly into the firewall.

Cisco Firewall :: Unable To Ping Internet IPs From ASA5505 Firewall

Jan 9, 2013

Internet ISP -> Juniper SRX 210 Ge-0/0/0
Juniper fe0/0/2  -> Cisco ASA 5505
Cisco ASA 5505 - >Inernal LAN switch.

1.  Internet  is connected to Juniper Ge0/0/0  via /30 IP.

2. Juniper fe0/0/2 port is configured as inet port and configured the Internal public LAN pool provided by the ISP. And this port is directly connected to  Cisco ASA 5505 E0/0. Its a /28 pool IP address. This interface is configured as outside and security level set to 0.

From Juniper SRX, am able to ping public Internet IPs (8.8.8.8).

Issue:

1. From ASA am unable to ping public ip configured on Juniper G0/0/0 port.(/30)
2. From ASA no other Public internet IP is pinging.

Troubleshooting Done so far.

1, Configured icmp inspection on ASA.
2. Used the packet tracer in ASA, it shows the packet is flowing outside without a drop.
3.  Allowed all services in untrust zone in bound traffic in Juniper SRX.
4. Viewed the logs when I was trying the ping 8.8.8.8 in ASA. It says "Tear down ICMP connection for faddrr **** gaddr **

Cisco Firewall :: Regular Dynamic PAT Statements In ASA 8.3?

object network INSIDE_192.168
subnet 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0

I grouped these 2 into 1 object-group:

object-group network INSIDE
network-object object INSIDE_10.6
network-object object INSIDE_192.168

Public IP address used for PAT:

object network PAT
host 152.x.x.x

I used the following statement to create Dynamic PAT to public IP address:

object network INSIDE_10.6
nat (any,any) dynamic PAT
object network INSIDE_192.168
nat (any,any) dynamic PAT

Is that correct? Also I'm using one public address to PAT both inside networks. Is there any dvantage of using 2 different ones, so each inside network would be PAT to its own address?

Right now my issue was when I use the existing NAT configured to our router into firewall, it seems that the translation was not successful actually I used Dynamic NAT. When I use the Dynamic PAT(Hide) all users are able to translated to the said public IP's. I know that PAT is Port address translation but when I use static nat for specific server. The Static NAT was not able to translated. Any conflict whit PAT to Static NAT?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Firewall Rule Not Blocking

Apr 1, 2013

I'm trying to troubleshoot an ASA5505.

The original goal was to block "Mumble/Murmur" (a voip app) traffic, which runs on TCP/UDP 64738, both inbound and outbound, except to a certain host (63.223.117.170).

However, when nothing I tried seemed to make a difference, just to troubleshoot, I decided to try blocking all inbound traffic.  I first disconnected ethernet port 0/0 to ensure that it was cabled correctly and the outside interface went down when I did.  That worked as expected, so I confirmed I had the right interface and it was cabled correctly.

I then applied a "any any deny ip" rule as the first element in the outside interface access_list, as you can see below.  However, it appears to have had no real effect and the hit count is very low (it should be astronomical).

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 Dynamic Routing And Static NAT

Dec 10, 2011

I have a ASA5510 with 2 internal interfaces (inside1 and inside2 same security level) configured with OSPF for dynamic routing with 2 routers to corporate subnets. I have a server in a private subnet that needs to be accessed from Internet. So static pat is used in ASA with the command

static (inside1, outside) tcp interface www 192.168.1.1 www netmask 255.255.255.255

As OSPF is in use, the subnet 192.168.1.0/24 may be reachable from interface inside2. When I tried to configure the static command for inside2,

static (inside2, outside) tcp interface www 192.168.1.1 www netmask 255.255.255.255.the error message came out "WARNING: mapped-address conflict with existing static...". Is this just a warning, or this is not possible in ASA.

Cisco Firewall :: 5520 Dynamic NAT Conversation Ends With Reset-O

May 29, 2013

I've been tracking a conversation on my firewall. I have an inside device that is trying to communicate to a server outside to send data. The conversation is suppose to be all 443. I see that there is a TCP connection made and a dynamic NAT that translates my inside device to the public IP, and appears to change the port to 65415. The problem I'm having is that the conversation ends with reset-O, and I'm wondering if that port has something to do with it, or if it's just that their server is resetting the connection because of an issue they are having? The vendor says no firewall rules are needed for this device to communicate with their server.

Cisco Firewall :: 5520 Why Does Dynamic Policy NAT Rule Apply

Jun 4, 2013

we have a nat exemption rule for 10.0.0.0/8 to w.x.y.z followed by some static nat rules and then dynamic policy nat rule for 10.0.0.0/8 to w.x.y.z natting to IP a.b.c.d.When I do a packet trace from 10.10.10.10 to w.x.y.z, it shows the packet first matching against the nat exemption rule, and then immediately afterwards it matches the dynamic policy NAT rule. The static nat rules are being successfully bypassed (which is what I want), but why does the dynamic policy nat rule apply if an exempt rule has been hit already? An actual test between the IPs above reflects the result of the packet tracer as well (IP a.b.c.d is seen on server w.x.y.z).We are running the following software on an ASA5520.
