We have a 6509 running 5.4(2). We have set up a hyperterm session and connect to multiple devices, then we get to the 6509 and it will not work. When we reload the 6509 and we are consoled into it, we get data until it is finished reloading. Then the console connections is no longer there.
View 5 RepliesI have issue with Cisco Router 2801's Console Port. My student was doing a lab and he said during configuration, Console Port stopped responding. He was in middle of configuration, so now at present, only telnet is able to login on "R2>" user mode, enable password is not set, so getting "R2>en % No password set R2>" I have tried different terminal software but no output from Console Port, changed the Console Cables, replace with working console cables, change speed (baud) settings. Also tried to connect same console with "AUX" port and got same error mentioned above. AUX Port responds but I am not able to change mode (R2#) because of incomplete running-config. it seems "Console Port" is physically damaged.

I only have one machine with a serial port and whenever I try to connect to a router (I've tried multiple purchased from different sources) nothing happens on the screen. If I wait for a couple of seconds and hit enter I get the response shown on the screen in the screenshot I have inserted. If this image is too small I have also attached. looks like it has already asked me this but I am unable to see it. Shouldn't I see some information when I attempt to connect, some acknowledgement that I have connected? I have tried using both hyperterminal anbd PuTTy.

Out of Aggregate policers.
What triggers this error? In this case, there are QoS policies configured at the interface level. The 'show platform hardware capacity' command shows that there are1024 policers supported. What counts as a policer? Is a policer each instance of a class using the police command? I see where there have been some suggestions to use VLAN based policies instead of interface policies and others suggesting to turn off 'qos marking statistics' but I would really like to understand the details of what causes policers to be used up and how to approach fixing this.
I am trying to understand how this works under the covers but can't seem to find any documentation anywhere defining the details.
I need to configure on a cisco catalyst 6509 two VACL. On cisco 6509 there are already two SPAN ports configured, there are problems configuring other two VACL?
These VACLs send traffic to a Traffic Analyzer (SIEM), there are particular configurations to facilitate the operation?
I am trying to test (if possible) the idea of having 2 6509-E switches connected directly to each other while using VRF-lite (Sup 2T). The idea is to have 3-4 separate networks. For example Net-A, Net-B,Net-C, Net-D. There is no PE router*, just these two switches. Also, there sin't any other access layer switches. All users connect directly to the 6509-E's via switch 48 port switch blades.
Net-A and Net-B on separate VRF's, but able to talk to each other. Net-C and Net-D* on separate VRF's without being able to talk to any other. Net-D* will have a PE since it comes from an external network. This is something I would like to test in a lab environment, but I am not familiar with VRF's.

I configure my Cisco ACS5.2 using Command set policy and providing Shell access 15.I allow user only “show * ” command.It works fine with Telnet. User Group cannot execute any command apart from “Show * ”But when I connect the device using Console user group has full permission on the devices.I believe Command set policy is not working on Console. Is it normal behavior or do I need to update some changes in ACS or Network devices ?

View 11 Replies View Relatedimplementation of the cisco CSS 11501 boxes available as spare on our site into production for an application evry thing worked as expected. i was able to telnet the active/master box and was able to console both master and backup box from the console port.however a week post the activity im faced with this weird problem where im not able to take console or the telnet access of my primary/active box.The boxes are working in BOX-to-BOX redundancy and now im not able to telnet or console my active/master box. The telnet and console window prompts me for username and password and after entering the credentials nothing happens. no prompt or no error message is displayed.
The telnet primary authentication is via tacacs and secondary is via local. however for console im not using any method for primay authentication and local for secondary authentication. however i can successfully console my backup box. below are my obsrvations 1. the left and right status LED on the active CSS box is OFF.- it means my CSS 11501 failed and has no power. 2. upon firing the rcmd command with show line command on backup box i see that the telnet sessions and console session is established with the master box3. the redundancy state of the active box says it is master and has not changed state since my last activity, no application issue reported, all the services are active on the active box and also i can ping the active box ip address from my backup box over which box to box redundancy is established. This confirms the active box is functioning well 4. i initially thought the telnet sessions are not getting cleared, however the show line cmd with the rcmd cmd on the backup box confirms this is not happening. now im stuck as the active box cannot be accessed at all via console or telnet. i was thinking of below steps to be carried out.1. to failover the boxes and make the backup as master2. then try to take the faulty box off the network and troubleshoot (are there any other commands that i should use to troubleshoot)3. if nothing works try rebooting the box and check
NOTE: the software running is version 7.20.30.3 with standard feature set. we are not using cvdm or the CSS GUI. we could access the css initially on CSS gui and that is also not working now.
I have an asa 5585x cluster. I get ssh access but no console access on the standby unit.
On the active unit, when I try console access, ASA ask for a password. I have tried all the one that I have configured, but without success.
but is there anyway to access directly a LAP 1522 using a console port?

I am trying to connect to console port but the problem is that I only get log messages but I cannot edit something or type any commands. I get the "press return to get started" at the end but I can't get any response. I just used the same cable and terminal on a 3750 switch and an ASA. What am I missing?

38400 bps and 8-n-1 serial port settings using DB9F to DB9F cable.
I have done this and tried using multiple machines/ports/cables as well as several peices of software (minicom, PuTTy, hyperterminal) and none give me any output from the switch at all.
The trouble is that in its original config, it had 1 port locked into its own VLAN for management with port security and an obscure RFC1918 IP address which I cannot recall for the life of me.
At this point, I have no access to TCP/IP management so serial console is my last hope and is not working.
I need to connect to the console port on a cisco firewall, an rj-45 connector. The cable is a rj-45 at one end and a serial on the other. My PC has no serial port and I am unable to use the provided cable to connect to the firewall appliance. Is there software that can allow serial over my PC's Ethernet? I really don't have time to order a serial card for my PC.

Now I have and idea to put one end of one cable (db9) to switch, and one end (db9) of second cable in my computer (COM input/output)

View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to enable command authorization for ssh as well as console access to a Nexus 7010 box (version 5.0). Following is the config:

aaa authentication login default group ACS5-1 local

As you can see, the default group configuration ACS5-1 for authenticatoin has applied to both defaults and console. But the command authorization does not appear to be applied to the console. As a result, when i login from the console and get authenticated, the command authorization does not trigger and i can run commands I'm not supposed to. In the configuration, I do not see "aaa authorization console" option unlike we have in IOS.
I have 2 Catalyst 2924 switch in a home lab. Both of them have developed the same problem at the same time (strange). I have tried all that I can think of. I can telnet to them but cannot access via the console port. On a telnet session I execueted a "write erase, reload" on one of them. As I anticipated this threw me out of the telnet session and I presently have no access to that switch.
The console cable is fine, works for all other devices.
I console into switch 1 (or router, it doesn't matter) and everything is fine. From that session I SSH to switch 2 (or router). The session on the second device has a noticable delay when I type.Next I SSH to switch 1, then SSH to switch 2 from that session. Everything works fine.Finally, I console to switch 1, and telnet to switch 2. There is no delay.So it appears the delay only occurs when I open an SSH session while consoled into a device. It didn't matter what switch 1 and switch 2 were - I had 3560Gs, 4900Ms and a 3845 router. There's no special configuration on the console or vty ports - when I do a "show line console" and "show line vty 0" the output is basically the same.

When I enter the username and password, which I just set, it fails. I am able to login under a different login but when I try to enter the enable mode the enable password doesn't work, which I just set as well. I can login with the TACACS+ login from a SSH session. Here is the line config:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have one Catalyst 6509E chassis and two SUP720. The bootup sequence on SUP 720 (standby hot) failed . Messages that appear on SUP 720, on the console port indicate o software crash. I don't have a flash card in SUP720.

The have around 80 staff and I think the current infrastructure is overkill for the size of the company. The current kit is old and they have no GB ethernet ports. They currently have:-
Core Switch:
1x Cisco c6509with a 48 port fast ethernet module (WS-X6248-RJ-45)
and an 8 port fibre module (WS-X6408A-GBIC)
I'm looking to replace this with something with 72 ethernet ports and 8 fibre ports
Access Switches:
2x 3500Replacement needs at least 48 ports and 2 fibre modules each
and 2x 5500Replacement needs at least 72 ports and 2 fibre modules each.
after an upgrade of NCS 1.1.1.24 to CPI 1.2 on green field, it was not possible to reuse the GUI. During the upgrade, I''ve shortly seen an oracle DB error, but the upgrade was going through, without problems.At the end, it was not possible to use the GUI, and every trial to start the services was stopped with errors.I've found the following severe Bug ID's in the support forum: Bug CSCuc29378 Prime Infrastructure 1.2 won't start after a db restore/Upgrade from NCS1.1.1.24 Oracle DB bug as well: CSCtw59460.I see only a new installation from scratch (1.2) as solution, but the bug is not resolved in V1.2, as seen in the bug tool.

We just got many 3560x switches for a project. Curiously and in a very rate event (at least for me ) 4 of them died after workijg normally. 3 for some days and the last one for 3 weeks.Power supplies are ok and light up, they work on other switches, fans dont start kn the damagdd switch but work in ither switches.Syslog server doesnt show anything. It just goes puff. They are brand new switches biught one month ago from official channek distributor.
