I have a SG500-28-K9-G5 at work and I'm tyring to connect to it trough the console port via Putty and get wierd symbols: When I press any button I see alot of wierd symbols comming up, for example if I press shift+6 or Enter (or anything). [code]

My PC has no serial port and I am unable to use the provided cable to connect to the firewall appliance. Is there software that can allow serial over my PC's Ethernet? The issue I have is that I can have either a phone or a PC plugged into a port but not both. If I plug in both then the phone works and the PC gets an IP address (Broadcast traffic) but PC cannot browse the network.
I'm trying to disable/enable ports via snmp v2 on a Cisco SG500-52P-K9-V01 switch. The communties are setup properly and I even have successful snmpset commands which when queried display that the action was complete. The issue is that when I disable the port via snmp the device on that port does not drop offline. This is a PoE port with a device powered over PoE so I'd expect the port to disable but also the PoE to turn the device off - neither happens.
Any experience with port management on this device? I also noticed the interface IDs (for port 1 for discussion) are 1, 101, 201 etc. I've tried setting on 1 and 101 only but the results have been the same and what were mentioned above.
I have an SG-200-8 which connects to a stacked pair of SG500-28P switches. It is powered by PoE from the SG500. From the SG500 the port appears Up, but at the the SG200 it is disabled and nothing I do re-enables it. I know the cable is good because I had a previous netgear switch hanging off it and working, also the power gets through.I can only connect to the switch if I disable wifi and plugin a manually configured PC - DHCP doesn't get through to it from the SG500 end.I have tried a second SG200 same problem. Have disabled RSTP/ STP thinking it might to relate to the fact that a PC connected to the switch also had a wifi connection to the same LAN, but. Don't know where to go next. looks like a bug?

I installed windows 7 onto my laptop and before i install when i would press a function key a symbol would appear on the screen. But now when i press the function key no symbol would appear on my laptop screen. i cant see how much my volume is up or down or either my brightness.

For Password and User Reset..... Although by the time I got to selecting a username and password the computer had went to sleep so I started over again. When I restarting this process I ejected the Flash memory told it to reset but failed to reinsert the flash card before it rebooting. Now in the terminal I get symbols instead of words. What can I do ?

When we reload the 6509 and we are consoled into it, we get data until it is finished reloading. Then the console connections is no longer there.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to configure my SRW248G4 switch thru console port. Unfortunately in this switch there is no RJ45 console port input, I can only see cosole port that is look like RS232 input. I bought two standard cisco console cables that have one end with db9 and one with RJ45.
Now I have and idea to put one end of one cable (db9) to switch, and one end (db9) of second cable in my computer (COM input/output)

There is many pictures in Internet, for many Cisco devices but this isn't working. Maybe in LINKSYS pinout look different ?

He was in middle of configuration, so now at present, only telnet is able to login on "R2>" user mode, enable password is not set, so getting "R2>en % No password set R2>" I have tried different terminal software but no output from Console Port, changed the Console Cables, replace with working console cables, change speed (baud) settings. Also tried to connect same console with "AUX" port and got same error mentioned above. AUX Port responds but I am not able to change mode (R2#) because of incomplete running-config. it seems "Console Port" is physically damaged.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Catalyst 2924 switch in a home lab. Both of them have developed the same problem at the same time (strange). I have tried all that I can think of. I can telnet to them but cannot access via the console port. On a telnet session I execueted a "write erase, reload" on one of them. As I anticipated this threw me out of the telnet session and I presently have no access to that switch.
The console cable is fine, works for all other devices.
I console into switch 1 (or router, it doesn't matter) and everything is fine. From that session I SSH to switch 2 (or router). The session on the second device has a noticable delay when I type.Next I SSH to switch 1, then SSH to switch 2 from that session. Everything works fine.Finally, I console to switch 1, and telnet to switch 2. There is no delay.So it appears the delay only occurs when I open an SSH session while consoled into a device. It didn't matter what switch 1 and switch 2 were - I had 3560Gs, 4900Ms and a 3845 router. There's no special configuration on the console or vty ports - when I do a "show line console" and "show line vty 0" the output is basically the same.

When I enter the username and password, which I just set, it fails. I am able to login under a different login but when I try to enter the enable mode the enable password doesn't work, which I just set as well. I can login with the TACACS+ login from a SSH session. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have one Catalyst 6509E chassis and two SUP720. The bootup sequence on SUP 720 (standby hot) failed . Messages that appear on SUP 720, on the console port indicate o software crash. I don't have a flash card in SUP720.

networking error which seems to make no sense to me, i have computer 1 (tower computer) computer 2 (laptop computer 3 (tower computer1 & 2 have networked happily together for 4-5 years, sharing files and printers both ways. 3 was connected and happily joined the network but only with 2. 1 can see files on both 2 & 3, have now disconnected 3, have reset and rebooted router and both computers are up to date with software patches, i can not work out why 2 (or 3 before it was disconnected) can see 1 on the workgroup but can not access 1 in any way. i can, however, copy a shortcut from 1 through metwork places into 2 and access those files from 2. but network wizard or manual setting can not get full sharing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a WiFi in my home, when this laptop is under normal load, say like streaming a 360p youtube video, all the computers in my home will experience a huge lag and it becomes impossible to surf or do any internet activity (even the causing laptop itself will experience huge pings). The weird part is that the lag is at the LAN level, it is not related to my internet bandwidth. Because when I ping my local router (192.168.2.1) with other PCs during the lag period, I get 1000-4000 ms. However, it is usually 1 ms. I tried doing a stress test on one of my normal laptops by downloading at maximum speed, the problem did not occur, there was no lag, all my PCs did not encounter that lag and I still get 1 ms when pinging the router. It is only this laptop that when it starts downloading, my network will be flooded.
Another related problem with the laptop is that every time I log off then log in and try to reconnect to my network, It will not allow me, I will have to click on the windows diagnose problem and it will be fixed saying "Problem with wireless adapter or access point".
I'm trying to access our ASA 5512-X via the Management port, but the address https://192.168.1.1/admin can't be displayed.
View 35 Replies View RelatedI was trying to get into my router to give it a reboot yesterday, but was unable to get into the console. I used the username/password I've used for over a year (it was also auto saved) but it would not let me in. I went through all the steps to do a hard reset/restore default settings and it wouldn't let me. I had to access the boot loader to reload firmware, and that worked out just fine.
Now, I still cannot get access to the administration console with the default username (blank) and password (admin). I've tried moving my PC to ports 1-4 and none work.
I was about to give up on the router but I tried connecting from my iPhone and everything works just fine. I was even able to change my SSID and WPA key again.
Would this be a hardware issue, or could there be something in Windows 7 that's affecting it? I have disabled the windows firewall and AVG and still can't get any access from either Firefox or IE.
A couple of times I was able to get onto the first page of the console through IE, but if i tried clicking anything else it would ask for the username/password again and not connect. Now it won't even let me in once.
In the last 8 month I have been upgrated at least 6 Cisco ASA 5505 from 8.2(1) to 8.4(3) without problems, I did a minor changes and all related to rules due a problem with the migration.
