I not able to access cisco 2811 router (AC operated) through console port when I try to access it by selecting COM Port, but I able to access by selecting the TCP/IP option.
View 5 RepliesI have a strange issue that I am having an issue figuring out. I am trying to login to the 1941 router through the console port. When I enter the username and password, which I just set, it fails. I am able to login under a different login but when I try to enter the enable mode the enable password doesn't work, which I just set as well. I can login with the TACACS+ login from a SSH session. Here is the line config:

I have 2960 switch and i can't access it using my console cable .I can access other switches in my network ( 3560 & 2960 ) but i can't access only this switch.may be the console port in the switch damaged? or it's a bug ?? !!! although the switch is worked normally.

Also, is there is any kind of documentation for this type of config what have I seen is very few info.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have issue with Cisco Router 2801's Console Port. My student was doing a lab and he said during configuration, Console Port stopped responding. He was in middle of configuration, so now at present, only telnet is able to login on "R2>" user mode, enable password is not set, so getting "R2>en % No password set R2>" I have tried different terminal software but no output from Console Port, changed the Console Cables, replace with working console cables, change speed (baud) settings. Also tried to connect same console with "AUX" port and got same error mentioned above. AUX Port responds but I am not able to change mode (R2#) because of incomplete running-config. it seems "Console Port" is physically damaged.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 6513 with redundant sup 720-3B's that I cannot get onto. In short, one of the power supplies failed, it still passes traffic but I can't console or ssh to the box. Other than the two sup 720's, I have a 4 port 10gig card, a 16 port GBIC Card and an IDS module. I have tried removing the 10Gig, IDS and one of the sup's but still don't get anything on the console. I have rebooted the entire chassis and don't get anything on my console while booting. I have tried changing the speed of my terminal to every setting available incase someone has changed it at some stage but to no avail. I have tried swapping sup's, using only one at a time in the chassis but not getting anything. Is there anything else I can try to get onto this chassis? The power supply is a 3000w with a 32amp input. The failed power supply had tripped a switch, when i brought it back up, the power supply came out but the output failed LED is on. My #questions are, is there anything else I can do to try get onto the console, and is the power supply goosed when the RED LED is lit? I have reseated the power supply also but the same result.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a C2950-24 switch, with IOS 12.1(22)EA12 release.When I try to connect in console mode, I can see the "Press RETURN to get started!" message, but it's not possible to me to have the # prompt.An "authorization failed" message is displayed. And the same message is prompted.
I try to recover password by following the recovery procedure. After the boot command, I never see the message "Continue with the configuration dialog? [yes/no]: ".
I have 2 Catalyst 2924 switch in a home lab. Both of them have developed the same problem at the same time (strange). I have tried all that I can think of. I can telnet to them but cannot access via the console port. On a telnet session I execueted a "write erase, reload" on one of them. As I anticipated this threw me out of the telnet session and I presently have no access to that switch.
The console cable is fine, works for all other devices.
My Linksys Routers IP is 192.168.1.1 am unable to access the console, although i changed the computers IP 192.168.x.y. i have tried by Hard Resetting the Router but still the same?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a set-up with multiple C2960 and C3750 switches. All these devices are being managed remotely. So basically I login to C2901, which is used as a Terminal Server, and reverse SSH to the console of each device. That's - I have assigned an IP to each port of the terminal server so that I can SSH directly to the desired device through via the mapped IP.
Now, recently I had to restart couple of switches - one C2960 and C3750. I initiated the reboot via console connection remotely. I could see the device logs for some time and then the logs stopped and there was no reaction from the console irrespective of any command I tried to enter.
I tried resetting the line on the terminal server, but that didn't work.
Now when I try to SSH the IP mapped to console of that particular device - i dont get any login prompt and there is no effect on device after giving any command. Although i can see the logs on the console session - but cant do anything.
I have a second way of connecting the device via inband- management, and checked the device config found it correct. It is same as other devices which are working correctly.
Both C3750 and C2960 are behaving exactly same - can see logs on console but see effect of even pressing enter - not getting login prompt as well.
I console into switch 1 (or router, it doesn't matter) and everything is fine. From that session I SSH to switch 2 (or router). The session on the second device has a noticable delay when I type.Next I SSH to switch 1, then SSH to switch 2 from that session. Everything works fine.Finally, I console to switch 1, and telnet to switch 2. There is no delay.So it appears the delay only occurs when I open an SSH session while consoled into a device. It didn't matter what switch 1 and switch 2 were - I had 3560Gs, 4900Ms and a 3845 router. There's no special configuration on the console or vty ports - when I do a "show line console" and "show line vty 0" the output is basically the same.

When i remove the login local from the line console i connect to console port and press enter it shows router prompt 2691Router> but i am unable to go to enable mode.If i telnet to router then i put username and pw then it goes straight to enable mode.

I have one Catalyst 6509E chassis and two SUP720. The bootup sequence on SUP 720 (standby hot) failed . Messages that appear on SUP 720, on the console port indicate o software crash. I don't have a flash card in SUP720.

today I received a Cisco 1841 Router with a problem i have never seen before. Maybe this my 1st really,really broken Cisco Router. When I power the Router on, the fan and all lights turn on (green) and that's it. Nothing changes, also after minutes of wating. On console i don't get any messages and I already tried every BAUD rate possible. Switched the router off/on again and again. And no, it's obviously not a console problem of my computer, because i tried with different routers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a used Catalyst 2900 XL switch and have not been succesful in connecting to the console via minicom 2.5 running on Ubuntu 12.04 or 11.10, I don’t even get junk charecters in the terminal or echo on input. The switch passes POST according to the LEDs on the front and the network ports are fucntional for switching purpouses.
I’m using a Prolific PL2303 USB-Serial adapter, which works with minicom to console into another device. I’ve tried every baud rate available and tried combonations of hardware flow control, software flow control, and niether.I’ve tested the pinout of the console cable and all pins map correctly according to Cisco spec.I’ve also tried Cutecom, putty, and screen. I have not tried HyperTerminal because I do not use windows.Is it possible that the previous owner disabled console access? Do I need to reboot the switch each time I test a different baud rate?
I have linksys ADSL Router which is having one line port for Phone Line and 4 Ethernet Ports.The Router IP is 192.168.1.1. When i connect this Router through one of its Ethernet Port to one of the Network Point(which is DHCP enabled)is working fine. I get the IP 192.168.3.x from my existing DHCP not from the ADSL Router which is enabled.Secondly, Although i can Ping the Router IP 192.168.1.1 from Wifi client 192.168.3.X, But when i try to open the Router Console a Login window open and is says " your are trying to access the Router in an insecure ways and it doesnt not authenticate ID and PWD.When i directly connect Router to my Laptop then am able to do so.

Apart from the last time I tried to use a Linksys product. I had the WRVS4400N recommended to us by a friend as we run a small FTP server to share promotional materials amongst sales operatives around the world, wanted to protect it from intrusion and was told that a Cisco Linksys product with a VPN was the way to go.
I duly purchased a WRVS440N and have been trying to log into the admin console via both browsers (IE9 and Google Chrome) that are installed on a laptop running Win7 which in turn is the only thing connected to the stated device via ethernet port 1... I have tried accessing it via http://192.168.1.1 and have even tried a suggestion from another forum to try https://192.168.1.1 - this only results in my being told that the address does not have a trusted certificate and I even tried every suggested workaround...
I have tried all kinds of reset periods from 10 seconds to a minute, both hot and cold and each time the result is the same - I type in 'admin' and 'admin' in the appropriate boxes and the dialogue box continues to return to the browser window with empty fields...
The shame is that I have managed to re-flash a BT Voyager 190 ethernet modem successfully with DynaLink v3.29a firmware (which allows it to be used with any ISP besides AOL [for whom this modem was solely intended]) and can set it up as a DHCP server, non-DHCP with a single link to another server or non-DHCP and no link.... The point is the modem works... I'm using it right now to type this! We have a single static IP from our ISP and the BT modem is working just fine (as is the TP-Link wireless modem/router that the WRVS4400N was intended to replace)... there are other options in it's firmware for port forwarding, etc and I'm convinced that it wil be adequate for use in conjunction with the WRVS4400N.
I have to concede that the WRVS4400N was not sold to us as NIB; it was sold as re-conditioned and was shipped to or via Ingram Micro Distribution from Cisco Systems, Veldweg 3, Herkenbosch 6075 NL (Holland) via UPS on or about the 31st of July, 2012... there is a shipping label on the original packaging that tells me that so it has in fact been back to Cisco at some point and for some reason.

This is currently in a switchport mode access port- channel so only the default vlan data is sent over. Now we have a need due to physical location of these switches, to allow vlan20 (DMZ) from this 3750g to the switch stack. I will configure a few ports on the switch stack for vlan20 and they need to be able to talk to the stand alone 3750g.To do this I will change the port channel on both endpoints to

-switchport mode dynamic desirable
also making the appropriate change on the interfaces belonging to this trunk.My question is, now that its a trunk port that carries multiple VLANs, how much is the bandwidth reduced on that 2gbps link?I have a very active VLAN (10) on the stand alone switch, but on the core I'm not going to be assigning VLAN 10 to any ports. So does traffic from VLAN10 even come across the trunk (wasting bandwidth) if no ports on the core side are assigned to it? I really just need vlan 1 and 20 (for now).

I have recently purchased a second hand 3512 XL which I have managed to connect to via PuTTY and the console cable. I have familiarized myself with access privileges and resetting passwords and locating the IP address, etc.
I am trying to connect the switch to Cisco Network Assistant however I am unable to connect to the switch over a cat5 on the first port (nothing else is on the network, just a server directly to the switch). I have tried pinging the switch from my server, and similarly I have tried pinging the server from the switch and each time there is 100% fail rate.
I have a 4510R-E chassis with SUP7-E running IOS XE version 3.01.01.SG. I am unable to create a port-channel and apply auto-qos for VOIP.If I configure auto-qos on the physical interfaces, I get this message when I try adding them to the port channel:
"The attached policymap is not suitable for member either due to non-queuing actions or due to type of classmap filters."
Auto-qos is not an available command in the port-channel interface configuration, but if I try adding the service policies that were created by auto-qos to the port channel manually, it lets me apply the input policy but on the output policy I get this message:
"A service-policy with queuing actions can be attached in output direction only on physical ports."
With the input policy applied to the port-channel interface, I tried addign the output policy to the physical ports and I got this message:
"A service-policy with non-queuing actions should be attached to the port-channel associated with this physical port."
Is there a way to get the auot-qos policies applied to the port-channel properly?
I have an office c2811 and it has three Ethernet interfaces(two onboard and one expansion). Faste0/0 is on one isp and faste0/1 is on another. The third is private. I have multiple site ipsec vpn’s terminating on faste0/0. I had a client ipsec vpn on faste0/1. One of the site vpn’s on faste0/0 terminates at a collocation site. Both the site vpn and client vpn need access to the same collocation. When I connect via client vpn, I cannot ping/access collocation subnet. I suspect this is because I have a site vpn already terminating to the collocation. Can I have a site and client ipsec vpn on the same router terminating to same place and still work?

The cisco that is being devlivere is coming with a 48 port switch and 24 port fibre switch. Could I change any of those ports into a router port and configure IP addresses on those?
The supervisor card is a ws-sup-720-3b the 48 port switch is a ws-x6748-ge-tx the 24 port fibre switch is ws-x6724-sfp
I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level. I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other. I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it. This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports. I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port. It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere. I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port. However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.
It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.
I purchased an old cisco 831 for practical studies for a cisco certification. I purchased the console cable (serial/rj45) and a usb->serial converter cable. However when I open my terminal application (tera term) After I select the right com port (3) and make sure the connection settings are right. It will just sit idle and not show any data from the device. Was I sold a faulty device? It lights up and has three lights on.
Everytime I look at a manual or cisco video I am given the impression the terminal application will just automatically connect. But whenever I try I get nothing.
