Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3550 - Copy IOS To Switch In ROMmon Mode?
Jan 24, 2012I have a 3550 switch that was replaced at a remote site with no IOS. This is a switch not a router so tftpdnld does not work.

The problem is the switches interface never comes up so try to connect to the tftp server. I read on google it can't be done on a switch to copy from tftp to flash in rommon mode on a switch and to use XMODEM. My problem is I do not have access to it, I ssh into a 3640 which is an access server for all devices and that is how I have console to it, how to use XMODEM over ssh.
But I'm fairly certain that there has to be a way to just copy it from tftp? I have a 3550 local and when I put it in rommon mode it stops the port check at port, port 1 goes from green when you plug it in to off then port 2 changes to amber and the rest green. So just by the look of this I would believe tftp would work; you just need to use port 1.

Jul 18, 2012Can I check I've understood the ACS backup and restoration procedure?A backup run from exec as "backup <filename> repository <repository name>" is the same command run automatically by "System Administrator -> Scheduled Backups" in the GUI, just scheduled for me...That backup is enough to completely restore ACS to its state at the time of the backup, including ACS config (Users, Devices, NDGs, etc.) and the View database (reports, historical data, etc.)It's entirely separate from the backups ACS View makes as part of it's purging action. (I only need those if I want to go way back in time, I don't need them to restore a functioning ACS with the recent reports and logs) if I still have a working ACS left after the primary dies, is it not just easier to promote the survivor to primary and then add the replacement in as a secondary and let replication restore the configs? Perhaps re-promote the new box to primary afterwards?

If I suddenly need to look at logs from last year what am I supposed to do? If I restore it surely I'm just going to go over the size limit again and it'll just get purged, no?

But, making the configuration from scratch is something i would like to avoid if possible.

However, when restoring, sometimes the process gets stuck somewhere (the client reboots prematurely if that happens) and more than often the clients can't boot into Windows anymore.All clients have the exact same hardware.Now I know the image can't be the problem, as I've restored this exact image to a client two days ago and it booted perfectly fine. Everything worked.I tried to image two clients at the same time. The first thing I noticed was that the method used was NFS and not UDPCAST, which it should be. Now I know it wasn't using multicast because the imaging went asynchronous.

Nov 6, 2012I've run into an interesting problem trying to migrate my production config from my redundant ACE20's (A2(3.4)) to the new ACE30's (Tried (A4(1.0) and A5(1.0)). Everything on the ACE30 is working fine with a base config, but when the restore all is run from the ACE20 backup (backup all), the SSL files are not restored and return errors. All the contexts are restored correctly, along with the startup-config, but the running config fails due to no SSL.
All the crypto certs/keys are exportable and are present in the backup .tgz file.

Sep 16, 2010I just upgraded to a E3000 from a WRT54G and I am having some issues with network speed.I have no special settings and have even tried restoring factory defaults and upgrading to the latest firmware to no avail.The time I notice the biggest hit is when transferring files locally on the network (WiFi and LAN).Let me note that I do know the difference between MB/s & Mb/s and the like.I have Comcast 20Mb/s Down, 1.5Mb/s Up (just a FYI, the main issue is local transfers)
With default settings my Laptop (ASUS N82JQ, Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter), connects to the router at only 65Mb/s (with full signal).Upload seems to be more decent ~600KB/s (Transferring files from wireless n laptop to the gigabit desktop).Download seems to be limited to ~150KB/s (Copying files from the wired gigabit desktop to the wireless n laptop).These speeds are horrible! ~5hrs to transfer 3GB of data!
One of my laptops had a card that was capable of both 2.4 & 5Ghz and I was previously getting ~2000-5000KB/s (2-5MB/s) transfers with this router (But I had to do a system restore on it and reset the router). My ASUS laptop seems to only work with 2.4Ghz though. If I change the 2.4Gh Wireless settings on the router to "Auto(20MHz or 40MHz)" the laptop will connect at 150Mb/s, but the speeds are the same slow speeds as above.

Jun 11, 2012I cleared the flash (disk0) on my ASA and now I'm unable to restore it with an IOS.
When I attempt to load it with an IOS, it appears to load just fine. It even proceeds to restart, but when it boots back up it displays the error "No images in / Error 15: File not found. unable to boot an image" and goes to ROMMON.
My computer's IP is 10.0.0.1. I'm assigning the ASA 10.0.0.254. The image filename is asa724-k8.bin. Here's the output of the environmental variables and the attempted loading of the IOS:

No response on console but the led lights seems to be normal.I tried removing the CF then turn it on again to see if the router will go to rommon but didn't happen. I did try using another pc thinking the com1 is faulty but still no response on console nor rommon not showing up.

Feb 16, 2012I'm having a little trouble with a router I have got my hands on to practice for my CCNA.Im connected via serial>USB adapter and via XP HT on Win7. Router boots and I then break the boot sequence with ctrl-break. But then it does not go into ROMMON mode. It simply says this:

Nov 24, 2012I do not have a cross over cable and have to use xmodem. I set the baud rate to 115200 and I can see everything fine. Using Tera Term when you send the file via xmodem it freezes and closes on packet #3 or about 384 bits. When simply clicking the send file button you get the error-

Nov 29, 2012I have a Cat6506. There were 2 Sup 720 in it for redundancy. They told me they had problems with this thing in the past needing to go out and reboot the machine. I need to go out periodically because it goes into ROMMON. I type boot and it comes back up. One time though neither one would reboot. I had to take a third one out there and reconfigure it. Now it is starting to do the same thing. One thing I did notice is they never connected it to an UPS. It is plugged strait into the wall with power going to two outlets. I am beginning to think there are spikes in the power occurring and this is sending it into ROMMON.

The image on all 55 is c1841-ipbasek9-mz.124-24.T4.bin. 32 MB Cisco brand flash. Here's what's been done thus far:In ROMMON changed to 0x2102. Then 'reset' and the image boots fine. Change config-reg to 0x2102. Save config. Reload and image boots fine again. Wait an hour or more and boots to ROMMON.Boot from ROMMON to USBflash0: Format the CF then copy over the bin file. Change to 0x2102 and save. Reload and image boots fine again. Wait an hour or more and boots to ROMMON.Swapped CF with another unit. Again, works fine to reload, but shut down and restart an hour or more later and boots to ROMMON. Format this CF and copy over image while on router. Image boots fine. Wait an hour or more and boots to ROMMON.In each case of very cold start the configuration register has reverted to 0x0 {why it boots to ROMMON}Tried dx mode with 0x8001. Nothing seen that is unusual to me, but I'm not an expert by any means.It doesn't seem to a CF card problem, but could be a connection to the CF card and then something behind that.

Mar 19, 2011On new 1841 Testing Router, I deleted the flash & did the reload. After reloading, instantly I entered into the Rommon mode.
