I have an 887VA-K9 which boots into ROMMON mode every time. It seems to have 3 tries at booting, then fails.
The entire console output from power-on is (blank lines removed):

we have 55 of the 1841 routers here, and one of them always boots to ROMMON from a very cold (down 1 hour or more) start. The image on all 55 is c1841-ipbasek9-mz.124-24.T4.bin. 32 MB Cisco brand flash. Here's what's been done thus far:In ROMMON changed to 0x2102. Then 'reset' and the image boots fine. Change config-reg to 0x2102. Save config. Reload and image boots fine again. Wait an hour or more and boots to ROMMON.Boot from ROMMON to USBflash0: Format the CF then copy over the bin file. Change to 0x2102 and save. Reload and image boots fine again. Wait an hour or more and boots to ROMMON.Swapped CF with another unit. Again, works fine to reload, but shut down and restart an hour or more later and boots to ROMMON. Format this CF and copy over image while on router. Image boots fine. Wait an hour or more and boots to ROMMON.In each case of very cold start the configuration register has reverted to 0x0 {why it boots to ROMMON}Tried dx mode with 0x8001. Nothing seen that is unusual to me, but I'm not an expert by any means.It doesn't seem to a CF card problem, but could be a connection to the CF card and then something behind that.

I have a lightweight AP that boots into RoMmon, if i hold the reset button in for 10 seconds or so it will boot into the IOS and download the config from the controller but never registers. then once i reboot it it goes back to Romon unless i hold in the button again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedGot a long lingering, year long issue that has spanned about 8 supervisor cards and a complete chassis swap. The 6509 acts as a ITN in our facility. The active sup card at random points of pipe usage boots into rommon mode, seriously inhibiting our company. I'm able to swap the 2 fiber pairs that we had going into the active supervisor card into the secondary and usually this works for another random amount of time, however, today it occured within minutes of hooking up the fiber links. Sitting there for about 5 minutes it booted into ROMMON. When this happens, I'm able to boot the sup card back to good status. Previous remedial actions, other than replacing sup cards/chassis, was checking the config register and making sure it was x2102. Previously, it was not, and we corrected and reloaded and it took, we thought this would fix the problem, until today.

I'm fairly new to networking and need to migrate an old core to a new core. I have a 6509-e Switch that I had an RMA on one of my 720 sup cards. After receiving the sup card I swapped my slave out with the new one, expecting it to boot into ios. It booted into Roman. I tried to boot the image manually and it did the same thing. I also tried to boot from my flash and, again, booted into ROMmon.
Question: If i configure and change the boot to boot from image it tells me i need to reset or power cycle first. Will this reset the entire switch? As this is production I'd rather not.
I am at home now, but I can supply any logs/hardware model/configs tomorrow. I thought I would see if this is an easy fix.
difference of CISCO887VA-K9 and CISCO887VA-SEC-K9.I thought it because of the Advanced Security and Advanced IP Licenses, but it isn't, I've got the -SEC- Version now just with the Advanced Security license. So I asking myself why I bought the more expensive CISCO887VA-SEC-K9 if I have to buy the additional Advanced IP Services licenses extra..

Netgear.The internet works fine via wireless for laptops, phones etc.Until i boot my desktop up that is connected via cable to the router it then drops the internet connection.The network is still showing as active but local only.If i open a browser it tells me that it cannot resolve the DNS server.if i switch the desktop off and reconnect the laptop it works.So its not the laptop or the router i have used a few different cables all the same.I'm using XP on desktop fairly fresh install with AVG antivirus and not much else on it but i have had the internet working since install so its some setting somewhere thats changed or needs setting up again.

I had tried to made an upgrade on some switches, but switches still boot with the old software.I have installed software 3.0.0.18 and boot 2.0.0.03. I have downloaded software 3.0.1 from cisco, put it on tftp and started an upgrade via switch web interface. I have checked that the active image is set to 1, and started the upgrade.Switch has downloaded soft from tftp, and reported that process has been finished without errors.After the restart switch have 3.0.0.18 software again. I have try to do this same on 4 different switches working in L3 and L2 mode - always with the same effect.Should I upgrade both images in the same time to get this work?

I have a PC at one end of the tunnel and a web ranger that operates at layer 2 level. I can see the layer 2 traffic entering the router from the PC however it does not seem to go over the L2 tunnel to the other router.
I also need to know what debug codes I can enter to see if the data is being filtered and if so why?the debug L2TP gives the following output:

I've got a brand new C887VA-W-E-K9 that is up and running on a BT VDSL connection. That side of it is fine... But the integrated AP module on it keeps reloading.. I can be on the AP console reading the config via 'sh run' and suddenly it'll be loading the OS again... There's no errors logged, no errors on the console or anything... (I also have yet to get the radio working, it starte dbefore I'd finished the config).
It doesn't seem to be anything I'm doing as if I just leave the console, it'll just sit there... reloading every few minutes... (Although sometimes it seems to stay up for longer).
The console just looks like this. WHich is taken from listing the running config and while sitting at the --more-- prompt... Bang...

I am struggling to get this working after spending many hours looking at it I am now completely stuck. We are upgrading from a 857W to this 887 VA-M I have some experience of IOS and the 800 series. Our 857W works perfectly using almost the same config. Our situation is that the router will sit in front of our firewall and act essentially as a simple router passing everything through to our Firewall. Nat is done at the Firewall.
We currently have the following configuration that seems to connect the the ISP fine but I cannot connect to the vlan2 port on the switch the firewall cannot connect to he internet or route anything via the Vlan2 port no pings etc.. I am using Fast Ethernet 0 as the Vlan2 port and the rest are V LAN 1 with a local network address to allow me to connect a laptop.
We have a block of static IP addresses, the base of which is assigned to the V LAN 2 interface and used by Dialer 0 as IP Unnumbered. Config below.

I'm facing an issue since 2 month now , no one is able to tell me what's going on. The line goes down suddently for 2 or 3 minutes and this happens everyday at the same range (~2 or 3 hours) of time . I don't have any scheduled task to cause this. We have a 887VA and a dns/web/mail/ftp server behind (below address 192.168.99.100).
first problem I forwarded the necessary ports to the server address, but now the domain became invisible and all the above servers stops to respond.
second problem whenconfiguring a fixed ip addres on a PC with GW and DNS server the 887VA address no internet connection possible, but when put instead the route address in the dns the ISP dns address internet comes back.
Put this server on DMZ, so all services will be available from the outside? forth how to connect the route remotely (with putty)

I have a adsl setup from my ISP (TDC) and I would like to use my 887va as modem instead of the supplied Motorola Modem.I have the technical info on the connection: VPI = 0, VCI = 101 and RFC1483 AAL5snap. I have supplied the 887VA with an IP address on VLAN1. I have cisco router 887VA.Question is when i connect that WAN port ( eth0) with any switch or laptop/pc i do not see the port in up state. What can be the reason.I have done "no shutdown " on interface level and there is no configuration on interface except the IP address , but it show " up down "state even the port is connected to some device. i'm having difficultys in setting the router to connect to our BT ADSL2 business broadband, we have a static IP but on normal cheaper routers you just input a Chap username and password. and the router sorts the rest.
i've followed the tech support from cisco website inputted the configure commands to create the ATM0 and a Dialer0 but still having no joy.when you log into the gui it only shows you a enable PPPoE tick box. no signs of PPPoA?
Now that I've got the console cable working due to a USB adapter, I can access the router fine and the Cisco CP and Hyperterminal software both work fine, however if I try and configure the router via the Cisco CP > Setup a new device... menu option, once I press 'next' on the screen which asks for an IP, subnet, user/pass, it eventually comes up with this error:
readTillMatch: Timeout, max timeout=60000 ms, last device response=[]?
I have manually reset it once already via Hyperterminal and tried again but that still persists in producing that error once I configure it via the Cisco CP software.
EDIT: Manually configuring it via hyperterminal using the commands given by the device wizard worked instead, and then saving and reloading. However, despite getting the LAN lights to come on now (on the router) and my computer to acknowledge a connection, I can't get it to obtain an IP, nor can I get it to discover the router on 192.168.1.1 if I specify the IP manually for my network connection, using gateway as 192.168.1.1 and my computer's IP as 192.168.1.15 for example.
