Cisco WAN :: ASR 1002 IOS And ROMmon Upgrade
Jan 10, 2011 I'm trying to upgrade the ASR 1002 we just purchased and am having some issues (this is a new device and is not in service). I first tried upgrading the ROMMON using the upgrade rom-monitor filename bootflash:asr1000-rommon.150-1r.S.pkg all command, but the upgrade didn't seem to work completely. When I do a sh platform I get the below output showing 15.0(1r)S: [code]

I've also tried upgrading the IOS, but that is not working either. I tried "boot system flash:asr1000rp1-advipservicesk9.03.02.00.S.151-1.S.bin" command, but that did not work. I made sure the image was good using the "verify" command and made sure to set "config-register 0x2102". After I do a wr me and reload the router I get the below errors. [code]

Aug 14, 2012Yesterday I tried to install c2960-lanbasek9.mz.12.55.SE4.bin onto my router. When I changed the boot commands, I did not leave the 2nd option in there and the old firmware has an .ex3 extension. After trying to boot to this new image, we receive a looping error message that continues to reboot and go through the same process.Basically the error is "ERROR: firmware not supported by hardware"I have power cycled it a few times but durning bootup, I never see the ################## which would allow me to BREAK sequence and get into rommon. The device simply waits about 30-40 seconds after boot and goes right back to the looping reboot sequence and the error message. Is there any hyper term or putty settings to change on this?

So I thought I'd upgrade to IOS-XE 3.2.0SG to hopefully resolve the issue. I was reading the software release notes and it says:
If you are upgrading to 3.2.0SG, you must upgrade your ROMMON to 15.0(1r)SG2.If they have dual supervisors, first upgrade your software to 3.2.0SG, then upgrade your ROMMON to15.0(1r)SG2 to avoid the resets uplinks issue (CSCtj54375).
And from the ROMMON release notes it says:
Download the cat4500+e-promupgrade-150_1r_SG2 program from Cisco.com, and place it on a TFTPserver in a directory that is accessible from the switch that is upgraded.The cat4500+e-promupgrade-150_1r_SG2 program is available on Cisco.com at the same location from which Catalyst 4500 system images are downloaded.
So I have several questions:
The only promupgrade file I can find is cat4500-e-ios-promupgrade-150-1r-SG2 (which doesn't appear to be the same as cat4500+e-promupgrade-150_1r_SG2 ). Where the correct file is?Since I have dual supervisors, it says I should upgrade the software, then the ROMMON. If I can do that (run the new software with the old ROMMON) why am I bothering to upgrade the ROMMON in the first place? (update, ok, I see the new ROMMON gives me enhanced crash info and will allow future upgrades without bringing down both supervisors at the same time).When these were ordered/installed, the licenses were all mixed up (I wasn't involved with that ). So the MDFs have dual sup 7e with ipbase and the IDFs have single sup 7e with enterprise services. Obviously, we want the enterprise services in the MDF so we can run OSPF and the ipbase in the IDF. But, OSPF seems to be running just fine in the MDF on ipbase. Are the licenses not enforced on these platforms? The release notes for 3.2.0 say ipbase doesn't support OSPF. So if I upgrade the MDF switches, will OSPF suddenly stop working?
The IP Base image does not support enhanced routing features such as Nonstop Forwarding (NSF) , BGP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS), Virtual Routing Forwarding (VRF-lite) and policy-based routing (PBR).

Apr 11, 2013I have an issue with a customers 6503 with Sup-2T cards, where we are locked out of the console due to an authentication configuration error. So tried several times to get the card into rommon, with no success.
Checking through the various documents on CCO I dont find any reference to rommon on this card, but do find information on using the CMP to support the supervisor. I logged into the CMP but couldn't find a way from there to do a password reccovery either.So, is the `normal' IOS rommon/password recovery method supported.

Nov 9, 2012I have blown the dust of my Cisco 1801 and looked the books out to put a decent router on my network now I am running my own server however I have hit a few bumps but totally stick now.
DHCP is disabled and I can't remember the sub net. Connected with the console cable but finding my admin password isn't accepted. Running the password recovery but unable to access ROMMON using special command > break. I should get this but the ATA monitor library just loads and I get stuck on the password screen.

Cisco VPN :: 2801 - Unable To Route Traffic Over IPsec / GRE Tunnels
Jan 12, 2013I have an issue where I can get traffic to pass from HDQ to two branch offices over our ipsec/gre tunnels even though the tunnels appear to be UP. The HDQ is a 2811, branch is a home office using an 871W and branch runs a 2801 router. I initially had HDQ working fine with the 871W but when I configured branch2 (2801), they both broke. The tunnels appear to be up but traffic is not routing across them. The two 2801 routers run 12.4 (c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-24.T2.bin). These are gre over ipsec tunnels. Currently traffic flows over an exsting MPLS network that we are getting away from due to cost. As soon as I change the routes to point to the Tunnels, it breaks. Traffic doesn't appear to pass through the tunnel. I have attached my sanitized configs.

Feb 28, 2011128 compact flash got corrupted and suddenly not working after i reboot the 2801 router. now i have a new 256 compact flash and 512 compact flash but i cannot still to boot the 2801 properly. it always do looping like booting in rommon and will be the image decompress but in the end theres an error, Wrong system software for this hardware. ive tried different ios but still the same.

Nov 11, 2012I'm currently running ACS 5.3 Patch 7 in a VM on VMware ESXi. I download the application upgrade bundle, and placed it in my SFTP repository, and ran "application upgrade filename repository name". It throws an error that the manifest file is not found in the bundle.
I tried putting the ACS.gz file in an FTP repository, and even in an ISO file to attach to the VM. In all cases I receive this same error.I did verify the md5sum on the file to make sure it wasn't corrupted..

Aug 5, 2011I have a DIR-615 Ver. C1 f/w3.00. We have been having trouble with the the signal becoming weak or non-existent, so I decided to see if a firmware upgrade would solve the problem. I have attempted to upgrade to DIR615C1C2_FW301B11.bin and to DIR615C1_FW313NAB09.bin with the same result for both of them - with several attempts for each.
The message I get is: "The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.
If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.
The Gateway will not be reprogrammed."
I have disconnected all other devices to reduce traffic, I have attempted the upload multiple times for 3.01 and 3.13NA, I am logged in as the admin, and I believe the files are proper for this hardware version.
Is there something I am missing that prevents me from performing a firmware upgrade?

Mar 1, 2012I am in the midst of trying to update the controller firmware of a cisco wireless lan contoller 4402, and having some issues getting the file to transfer to the controller. i am currently running verison 5.0.148 on the controller and attempting to upgrade to the latest version of 7.0.230 and for whatever reason it continues to not transfer. I have tried all 3 methods of cli, gui and using wcs software. all the no avail , I have tried tftp32 and 3cdaemon with the same results.
The error that i am getting from 3cdaemon is got socket timeout aborting code 10054, failing at 66MB transfered. I increased the timeouts both on the wlc and the tftp client to no avail

Half way thru writing to the disk, it goes for a reboot. There is more than enought space on the disk0. I tried copying via a Compact Flash, but the ASA is not detecting the Compact Flash (which I thinks should be disk1). Jun 11, 2012I cleared the flash (disk0) on my ASA and now I'm unable to restore it with an IOS.
When I attempt to load it with an IOS, it appears to load just fine. It even proceeds to restart, but when it boots back up it displays the error "No images in / Error 15: File not found. unable to boot an image" and goes to ROMMON.
My computer's IP is 10.0.0.1. I'm assigning the ASA 10.0.0.254. The image filename is asa724-k8.bin. Here's the output of the environmental variables and the attempted loading of the IOS:

Feb 16, 2012I'm having a little trouble with a router I have got my hands on to practice for my CCNA.Im connected via serial>USB adapter and via XP HT on Win7. Router boots and I then break the boot sequence with ctrl-break. But then it does not go into ROMMON mode. It simply says this:

How I get it into ROMMON to reset the password on it.
