Cisco :: Restoring Backup To LMS4.2 From LMS3.2.1
Oct 4, 2012
i tried to restore backup from LMS3.2.1(windows) to LMS4.2 virtual appliance. once the back up is completed, the home page takes forever to load. i opened TAC case, and the only way out seems to be configuring from scratch after importing the devices. i, imported the devices and this didn't cause any problem. But, making the configuration from scratch is something i would like to avoid if possible.

in LMS3.2.1 we have NMSRoot/log/syslog.log where syslogs are being logged actively from managed devices. i couldn't find the same in LMS4.2. I am configuring LMS4.2 from scratch and in the hope of making the trasition from old LMS3.2.1 to LMS 4.2, I am planning assigning the old LMSs IP to the new one. basically changing the IP address of LMS4.2.

Got following problem with an LMS server that is installed without DNS server in the network, because this customer doesnt own and doesnt need any.
CS,CM,CV is working and contains devices, but RME (cannot connect to db) and DFM (TIS URN found) not. pdshow and dbRestoreOrig.pl after calling, hangs for ever.
To loose no further time with troubleshooting, I want to reinstall LMS from the scratch.
But I dont want to setup an DNS server just for resolving the only IP-Adresse from LMS server for self purpose only. Do I need an entry in driversetchosts for LMS server itself?
<IP> <Name> <Name>.<Fake-and-complete-unimportend-domin>
Do I need a fake-Domain? or can Domain be empty?
OS=Win2008,R1,SP1 as Standaloneserver (WORKGROUP)

create a scheduled task in LMS. In this task I would like to regularly check time on all network devices in LMS and generate a rapport about this that would be sent to e-mail. All network devices have the same NTP server. How can I create this task? LMS version is 3.2 SP1.

Can I check I've understood the ACS backup and restoration procedure?A backup run from exec as "backup <filename> repository <repository name>" is the same command run automatically by "System Administrator -> Scheduled Backups" in the GUI, just scheduled for me...That backup is enough to completely restore ACS to its state at the time of the backup, including ACS config (Users, Devices, NDGs, etc.) and the View database (reports, historical data, etc.)It's entirely separate from the backups ACS View makes as part of it's purging action. (I only need those if I want to go way back in time, I don't need them to restore a functioning ACS with the recent reports and logs) if I still have a working ACS left after the primary dies, is it not just easier to promote the survivor to primary and then add the replacement in as a secondary and let replication restore the configs? Perhaps re-promote the new box to primary afterwards?

On our CiscoWorks 2000 installation, running on Solaris with LMS3.2 and RME4.3.1, we noticed a few weeks ago, that the job "Inventory Collection" needs more and more time to finish. At the moment the job execution time is as high as 8 hours, compared to 3 hours before. When we look at the network traffic during job execution, we see after the collection phase (~3h) several hours with no traffic together with a very high CPU load. I mean to remember that this job used to complete around 15 minutes after data collection phase. Restarting the application and rebooting the system didn't work. When we look in to the IC_Server.log, we find devices with a completion time of over 20'000 seconds. Increasing from day to day. [code]
Affected devices are Cisco Nexus 5548P. We tried to delete/add these devices. That works for a few days, then the runtime starts to increase again.
Are we hitting a bug? And is it possible, as a workaround, to exclude devices from only the Inventory Collection?

I think I understand purging in ACS5 now:Purging occurs when the database either gets too large or when data is too old (up to 12 months, although I assume you can leave the setting blank and no age related purging takes place?)Data is purged by making incremental backups and deleting the backed up data from the local database until the size/age pressure is relieved. So, my question is, how do I later look at the purged data? If I suddenly need to look at logs from last year what am I supposed to do? If I restore it surely I'm just going to go over the size limit again and it'll just get purged, no?

I have via the ASDM created a backup of the working units configuration, and now i want to load this configuration onto the second unit.I have connected the consiole cable up to the second unit and tried pasting in the contents of the configuration file but no joy.I want to ensure that my configuration will work on this unit before i configure the two units in Active/Passiove configuration.

Both are snip enabled and responding too. What is the reason behind unknown device type so those are not reflecting in any module.

Check device credential verification job shows "Error performing SNMP operation" for a cisco 3750 configured with snmpv3.On the switch i can see that the lms can access the switch via snmpv3. Also cisco view works fine. Bug CSCsm89609 describe the problem but it should be fixed in RME 4.3. We are running 4.3.1.

Creating an image is almost always a success. However, when restoring, sometimes the process gets stuck somewhere (the client reboots prematurely if that happens) and more than often the clients can't boot into Windows anymore. All clients have the exact same hardware. Now I know the image can't be the problem, as I've restored this exact image to a client two days ago and it booted perfectly fine. Everything worked.I tried to image two clients at the same time. The first thing I noticed was that the method used was NFS and not UDPCAST, which it should be. Now I know it wasn't using multicast because the imaging went asynchronous.

Where can I access the result of "snmptranslate -M<MIB-dirs> -m ALL -Td <ps-status/test-oid>" if this is implemented in LMS overall? What are the OIDs from Cisco's ps-status/test, if the translation of MIB-enums is not implented?

With lms 3.2 during installation we can choose what to install i.e. not install DFM or IPM.
How can we do this in the new release 4.0 of the LMS bundle. I saw no options for it during installation of the new server.

I would like to upgrade LMS4.2 to PI1.2. According to Cisco this is a minor upgrade (requires the SAS code) and can be downloaded from the Cisco portal for free. My question: Can I still reuse the license and the B2B cisco support I use for my LMS4.2 ?
I will also upgrade WCS7.0.x to PI1.2. Will there finally be 1 server running 1 merged software, or will there be 2 servers one for WCS >> PI and one for LMS >> PI ?

I reinstalled CiscoWorks LMS (Windows 2008 R2) updated th LMS with all availible devicepackages and imported all devices with a xml bulk import of the former installation. Now I am frustrated.... because after the reinstallation LMS has problems collecting the inventory data. The inventory collection for one local device (Cisco WS-C3560-8PC-S) starts and nevers stops.... I have to stop the ICserver to stop the inventory collection.
I have only 4 of nearly 1800 devices where it was possible to collect the inventory information. All the rest is supposed to unreacheable...Reports> Inventory>Management Status>Unreachable Devices. But if I take one of the devices which is reported to be unreacheable and do a device diagnostic (Monitor> Troubleshooting Tools> Troubleshooting Workflows) says it is reacheable...
The inventory does not appear in the "Collector Status"?

I've run into an interesting problem trying to migrate my production config from my redundant ACE20's (A2(3.4)) to the new ACE30's (Tried (A4(1.0) and A5(1.0)). Everything on the ACE30 is working fine with a base config, but when the restore all is run from the ACE20 backup (backup all), the SSL files are not restored and return errors. All the contexts are restored correctly, along with the startup-config, but the running config fails due to no SSL.
All the crypto certs/keys are exportable and are present in the backup .tgz file.

I have a very special usecase with migrating devices from LMSv2.6 to v4.1 using DCR bulk import that was maintained manualy, not by discovering. The special thing is each device has its own SNMP-community and its about 1500 devices.RME discovery works fine, but I get the devices not discovered by DCR (CSDiscovery), because I need a minimal DCR discovery configration containing Seed and SNMP-settings. So I activated DCR as seed, but cant skip SNMP settings without an entry. But in this case I would need 1500 SNMP-lines that would be very unhandy. is in CSDiscovery-Settings a possibility to can leave SNMP settings untouched so it takes the credentials from the DCR, to can start DCR discovery?
