I have an old Cisco 3500XL I am using for my home lab, but was wondering can I use the fiber ports to connect to my PC. I have to correct NIC interfaces but no link indication. I did make sure the port was no down, but sill not link.

I was checking some things on my Cisco 4500 and spot checking some of the ports. Using CNA it says it is at 10. The web browser to the switch says Full-duplex, 1000Mb/s, link type is auto, media type is 10/100/1000-TX on port 6i/18 The CNA says, so what would cause the difference?

I need to add an ip address on vlan 21 which is where the network vlan is. I created it but I can not seem to enable it. I have a problem connecting a PC in a TwinGig Convertors (GLC-LH-SM). I want to connect a PC with a fiber cable on the supervisor WS-X45-SUP6L-E of my Switch 4500E.
The default configuration mode is X2. As I want to deploy Gigabit interfaces (that is, use TwinGig Convertors), then I configured the associated port-group:

I noted that the Swicth set up automatically 'switchport mode trunk', so i put the command 'swicthport mode access' because i want to connect only a PC. But the status is the same, I can not achieve connectivity. i just want to know how connect a PC in the interface GigabitEthernet1/4 of the supervisor engine of my Switch.
I'm configuring a catalyst 3500XL, but I'm having a problem, when I connect an ip phone it works just fine but if I connect a computer to the pc port in the phone the computer doesn't get an ip address. The switch is configure with two vlans Voice and Data and is connected from fa0/24 to a Catalyst 3560 fa0/46. I did configure both ports as trunk.

I can get the a PC that connects to a vlan 1 port on thecisco switch to connect to the 3com switch and get connectivity. However, I cannot get anthing on the cisco switch that is on vlan 2 to connect and get dhcp. I am not a 3com guy, so I am not familiar with the command and configs.We have 2 vlans on both switches: Vlan 1 is Admin and Vlan 2 is Student.

have a Switch I bought off a guy at work. Just to get into the Switching world of Cisco. He doesnt know the password on it and i cant reset the switch. I would like to mess around with it more but it doesnt load the flash or helper. It just sits there and holds. I have tried the password recovery and everything. Trust me, everything is correct, but it wont work for me. I cant load a new image to it because I dont have access to a server to get it from.

The problem is, the switch doesn't load flash, or will copy flash from xmodem either. It also doesnt load the helper or boot. It is user mode and lets me do nothing. It doesnt let me use the enable command to get into it. I would like to start the config from scratch. Its a 3500xl switch, 24 ports. I dont know what to do with it. I installed wireless controller with 4 APs and controllers sees all 4 APs. Controller is also DCHP server. When wireless client authenticates it's DCHP requests in not getting to DHCP server (controller). If i connect all equipment in non managed switch everything works.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have several Cata 3500XL switches connected to one 1 HP L3 switch which is connected Sonicwall router. Vlan1 has subnet of 10.10.0.0/24 and Microsoft DCHP server lays inside VLAN1.
Now i want to add VLAN11 (192.168.10.0/24) as second data VLAN but DHCP requests should go to microsoft DCHP server.
This is what i did:
Configured VLAN11 IP on each cisco switch
IP default gateway with IP from other subnet (i guess this is bad since maybe it should be IP of VLAN11 on HP L3 switch?)
Trunk ports are configured to pass everything on cisco switches
On VLAN11 i configured IPhelper IP to be MS DHCP server on each Cisco switch
I haven't tested this yet but i have problem in process.I can't ping VLAN11 IPs between switches (i configured VLAN1 and VLAN11 with IP). When client plugs computer to a port that belongs to VLAN11 will i be sure that client will get IP from the 192.168 range or there is possiblity that he gets IP from the management VLAN range?
I am trying to configure a 3500XL switch (and I know its old). I get to the int fa 0/1 line and thats where it all stops working.

It will show the configuration for port fa 0/1 as if I hadn't entered the "switch port mode access" command. Or any other command for that matter. Why the switch is not holding configuration and seemingly loses it as soon as you exit out of each interface?
I am trying to connect a SF200-48 switch via Mini-GBIC MGBLX1 fibre module to a Cisco 3750 switch with a GLC-SX-MM fibre module installed both running a 1000 Mbps. When connected together they do not enable. Are there compatibility restrictions or is it that the Mini-GBIC modules cannot be used to uplink to a LAN?
View 2 Replies View Relatedthe incoming fiber on ports 9 and 10 are on different subnets. I need to map the subnet on port 9 to ethernet ports 1-9 and port 10 is on its own. I have the device IPv4 address set to a static address on the same subnet as port 9. I don't know if there's an easier approach, but I attempted to map the ports using vlans (See the attached screenshots). We don't yet have the fiber link established for port 10, so I haven't had a chance to test, but I wanted to confirm that my configuration is sound. I used the default vlan for ports 1-9, because I need to manage through that subnet. I added vlan 10 for port 10, but I don't know if I have it configured correctly.

At one time, Primary SUP 10G uplink should be active & Redundant SUP 10G uplink should be standby. When primary SUP fail, redundant SUP 10G uplink will be active. Is that Possible with this scenario?Is that possible that at same time, 10G Uplink on both SUP 7L-E be Active?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect a 6509 switch to a 4503-E switch using single mode dark fiber over a distance of less than half a mile. Although a routine task, it does not work..We have a care 6509 switch where we concentrate all of our dark fiber connections for our remote sites. The 6509 switch already has 30 remote sites, most of them with 4503-E switches, connected in this way therefore it is a tested scenario. For the connections we use the GLC-LH-SM SFPs on both switches. Out of these 30 sites we had a similar problem with two of them, which we solved with the use of CWDM SFPs. With the CWDMs the fiber came up right away. However, I cannot keep using this solution because it is way too expensive! I had the losses of the fiber measured end-to-end and they are negligible (>0.5 dB).
In this latest case, like I said, we could not bring the connection up between the core 6509 switch and the 4503-E switch using the GLC-LH-SM SFPs. I then replaced the 4503-E switch with a 3560 and the link came up! Then I tried using a CWDM-SFP in the 4503-E, while keeping the GLC-LH-SM SFP in the 6509 and the link came alive again! Of course we already tried replacing the fiber patch cords with no luck. [code] I find it very weird for the link to work with the 3560 or with a CWDM in the 4503 but NOT with the SFP in the 4503!
Company I work for just moved into a new location. We have two data closets which are patched as independent entities, with no Ethernet tie connection. These closets are roughly 100 feet apart.
There is a fiber connection that runs between both closets, that the previous tenant used to connect the switches. I have placed a Cisco 2960 switch in each location, and added one mini SFP gbic's to each switch. After attaching both sides, neither light up. I do a sh inter gig1/0/49 on each and shows 'down down' (not admin down).
What is the trick on getting these to communciate, do I need to configure these ports, and are they supposed to light up?
What I am trying to accomplish is to get the one closet that is completely cut off, communicating by logically stacking, or 'daisy chaining' via fiber.
I turned off the lights and popped the fiber out, and I do see a faint red light (I did not look straight into it), so I think the fiber is active.
I am working on a project to connect 2 switch stacks via 10 Gb fiber. I am told that the 3750Xs do not natively receive the 10 GB SFPs. What part numbers do i need to order to make this work? Is there any IOS image requirements?

Cisco docs indicate each module is supported in specific ASR and ONS but does not indicate interfacing between the two. If these two modules will communicate without error via multimode fiber?
