Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4503E Share Bandwidth Between Traffic Classes With Percent Up To 1 Mega
Jul 16, 2012
I have one Catalyst 4503 with Supervisor 7L-E 10 with IOS - XE 03.02.00.XO. . One of its gigabit interfaces is connected to a Internet link of 1 Mega. In terms of QoS i would like to limit the total bandwidht of this gigabit interface to just one 1 Mega and simultaneous i want share bandwidth between traffic classes with bandwith percent up to 1 Mega and not 1Giga.

Have a 3750X running at the moment and has about 30 vlans all connected and just use the ip route global config command to enable routing. Plan is to switch out to the 4503E, with IPBase license. When ever I issue the same command, and do a show run its not there. I get no error when I issue the command either. And yes I have rebooted. Do I need to use RIP or OSPF routing? When I do a show ip route the screen looks the same with all the codes, though gateway of last resort isn't set even though I do have ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 a.b.c.d in the config. Or is ip routing just enabled by default?

find what feature set is supported on this IOS S45EUK9-33-1511SG The client requires Layer 3 functionality so do i need to apply any license with it or it will perform layer 3 routing (like rip, ospf, bgp, ipv6, ospfv3) ?

We run a workers camp here and we currently have around 2500-3000 people using our 100MB internet pipe. We are upgrading the pipe to 200MB soon but I still would like to limit how much bandwidth everyone is using.
We allow streaming media such as Netflix, youtube, apple TV and of course .So it gets full pretty fast. We have QOS implemented although I wasn't here when it was done so I don't know a lot about it. I would like to limit IPs to a certain amount of bandwidth. [code]

I use WS-C3560G-24TS and try both ios 12.2.50.SE1 and 12.2.46.SE but problem the same. The config as following,
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
ip address 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.0
[code].....
but I find the int g0/1 output traffic only can achieve about 500kbps then I try config below,
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
[code]....
I find int g0/1 output traffic only can achieve about 5Mbps,but if I change "srr-queue bandwidth limit xx" command xx to 20-90,the int g0/1 can achieve normal traffic bps, for example,
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
[code]...
the int g0/1 output can achieve 2Mbps that is correct, just only when limit set to 10%,the traffic only can achieve half of limit bandwidth.

I am having a Cisco 4507 switch. The CPU on the switch is running between 50% to 60% constantly. To troubleshoot I collected some logs using debugs & show commands.
debug platform packet all receive buffer
show platform cpu packet buffered
debug platform packet all count
show platform cpu packet statistics
show processes cpu sorted | exc 0.00
show platform health
show platform cpu packet statistics
show platform health output shows the below process crossing the target value.
%CPU %CPU RunTimeMax Priority Average %CPU Total
Target Actual Target Actual Fg Bg 5Sec Min Hour CPU
Stub-JobEventSchedul 10.00 13.41 10 47 100 500 13 13 10 5462:52
K2PortMan Review 3.00 5.35 15 11 100 500 4 4 3 1799:47
What I need to know is, though these process are running in Low Priority, will there be any issue if the CPU goes high due to these process.

IOS (tm) C3500XL Software (C3500XL-C3H2S-M), Version 12.0(5)WC3b, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
I think it's very strange the CPU always in 39 or 40 %. neither all ports of the switches are busy there are 6 ports free in each switch. 40 % I think it is a high value for CPU maybe because my IOS version 12.0 ?

I am currently trying to understand Subnetting via CCNA. My progress is going well,I understand the class below:
Class A 0-127 Max IP 2^24 = 16777216
Class B 128-191 Max IP 2^16 = 65536
Class C 192-223 Max IP 2^8 = 256
However I have seen an example from an ip calculator website, and noticed this :
Address: 192.168.1.0 11000000.10101000 .00000001.00000000
Netmask: 255.255.0.0 = 16 11111111.11111111 .00000000.00000000
Wildcard: 0.0.255.255 00000000.00000000 .11111111.11111111
=>
Network: 192.168.0.0/16 11000000.10101000 .00000000.00000000 (Class C) - I would have thought this would have been Class B?
Broadcast: 192.168.255.255 11000000.10101000 .11111111.11111111
HostMin: 192.168.0.1 11000000.10101000 .00000000.00000001
HostMax: 192.168.255.254 11000000.10101000 .11111111.11111110
Hosts/Net: 65534 (Private Internet)
Is this an invalid IP/masks as the max hosts is 65534 (which should be class B?). If so shouldnt the IP address range from 128-191- eg 172.16 (I know that CIDR is the amount of 1's. ).What calculates the class is it the netmask or the range of the first octet?

I have a scenario which is fairly common - certain servers are accessed from the internet via a Load Balancer, and since seeing true client IP is a requirement, the return traffic path must go back through the load balancer. However, I do not want to route all traffic via the load balancer for obvious performance reasons. Internal traffic should be routed directly by the Layer 3 switch, which has a default route of a Firewall.
My plan is to use a VRF for the load balancer and any applicable servers, which works fine. But now I need to join the VRF's routing table with the switch's GRT (global routing table) so that internal traffic works. What is the best way to do this? For scalability reasons I'd like to avoid static routes and I see many examples using BGP, but in this case it seems overkill since everything is on a single logical switch. Can I use OSPF instead? Or a different method? The Supervisors will be 2Ts, so IOS 15.0 will likely be running.

Cust 3 -- VLAN 30 --port Fa0/3
Cust 4 -- VLAN 40 --port Fa0/4
Cust 5 -- VLAN 50 --port Fa0/5
etc
I have to provide sharing internet connectivity for all customers.Speed is 100 Mbits, I have to garantee 3 Mbit to every customer and max speed will be not limited.ASA do routing, firewalling, nat etc.

I would like to connect to a 1Gb routed uplink, and then impose bandwidth limits (via shaping/policing/whatever) on a per port basis. The ports could either be configured to route, or as switchports on separate VLANS. I'm trying to identify hardware that will let me do this. The set up I have in mind is shown below.
I am wondering if the IP Services Adv software on that switch will allow that functionality?

They have a /28 wan adress coming from ISP, that gives out 100Mbps, going to a Cisco 2960S switch (ver. 12.2) the switch is only holding 1 vlan. Connected to the 2960 are 3 firewalls/routers from other manifactors, each creating their own network. The customer wishes for a solution where each final FW/router gets minimum 33% and maximum 100% of the bandwidth, depending on how much each final Fw/router are in use.

Is there a way I can find out the amount of bandwidth i'm using on a particular interface on a 4507 cisco multi-layer switch? It is a gig port and I have it setup for monitoring (spanning) and I see packets being dropped in the "Total Output Drops" area. To me it looks like it must be exceeding the 1gig limit but I don't know a way to check to make sure. I also have the queueing strategy set to FIFO.

The layout of the equipments are as such, other equipment <--> 2911 Router <--> Ether-Switch/3925 Router <--> 7206 <--> Internet,During certain times at night, the 2911 exhibits cpu load, high packet loss and an increase in bandwidth of at least twice it's normal amount. this results in packet loss in all the other equipment. I am attempting to locate who was demanding such a high burst but so far the graphs display normal rates for all the other equipment.Because the 2911 demands an increase from the 7206, the 7206 is able to accommodate this as it still has balance BUT my other equipment that are connected to the 7206 takes a drop in bandwidth as well. the graph shows that when the 7206 bursts higher, the rest of my other links take a slight drop in bandwidth. Also, the graph from Ether-switch to 2911 indicates the bandwidth hike BUT the graph from 2911 to ether-switch does not display the same thing as due to the cpu load, the data is somehow not captured properly.

I have assigned port 0,1 of the switch card to vlan1 for network 1 Ports 2,3 of the switch card is assigned vlan 20 for network 2
My problem is I would like to applied a bandwidth restriction for all data coming out from vlan20 capping same to 384 kb.
Note I do not want use QOS because this will only kickin when saturation occurs,
