View 5 RepliesWhen i have configured the 4507R switch but the configure is not sync with the standby module..... I have doing some troubleshooting
1. type the command "show redundancy" no standby module is showing
2. type the command " redundancy force-switchover" showing the message " no standby module is present"
3. type the command "hw-module module 2 reset" then the standby module is reset and status light is blinking like it is booting..
I have a 4507R with a WS-X4515 supervisor V. It was booting into rommon mode, so I attempted to boot to an IOS image from TFTP. The boot process hangs at at the end of the below output and the then the status light blinks orange. I left it sit like this overnight, and it remained the same.

I need to add another SUP engine on Cat 4507R switch, with a new one. I have old SUP engine running in this switch. Sometime this switch is reloaded without any reason. So we want to add another sup engine for redundancy. What is the procedure to do this & also how much outage time would it cause? Which sup engine will be run as primary and which one should be redundancy?

we have 2 Supervisor IV modules in our 4507, i want to upgrade the IOS as its still on 12.2 and i am going to upgrade it to the latest.
my first question is, if i update the IOS on the bootflash will it replicate to the secondarybootflash?
secondly, can i force a reboot of the secondary supervisor, then the primary after the secondary is up? i'm just trying to minimise downtime and get a plan going.
is there a difference in 12 vs 15 that would impact my current config that i should be aware of?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an older 4006 with a Supervisor II+. We now need OSPF support, which the Sup II+ does not provide. I have access to a Supervisor III (WS-X4014), which will provide OSPF support. Question is, are there any gotchas to shutting down the switch, replacing Supervisor Engines and then powering up? What about the flash card? On my current system, it appears that I am only using bootflash: , which is where the IOS resides (see below). Since my startup config is in nvram and my IOS is in bootflash, what's the purpose of the flash card in slot0: ? and where does NVRAM and bootflash actually live on a 4006 ( on the Supervisor Engine?)

In my 6513 switch chassis we have two Supervisor Engines 720 one is marked Active other as Hot. what is the diffrence in their mode as by name I suppose that Active one is currently in use and Hot one is in standby mode. They are showing in this manner.
Module Ports Card Type
7 2 Supervisor Engine 720 (Active)
8 2 Supervisor Engine 720 (Hot)
We are expanding out LAN network with more 2960 access switches. All the access switches are suppose to be connected to core switch (4507R) but i have less port on the core switch.
On the core switch we have two supervisor engines (WS-X4515 ---description : "Supervisor IV with 2 1000BaseX GBIC ports"). I can see that on each supervisor engine i have two 1 GB SFP ports available and if i calculate for two supervioser engine i will have 4 1GB ports.
But at particular time only one supervisor engine is active and other is in standby mode (redundancy mode used is SSO between two SUP engines).
Can i used all 4 SFP ports for connecting 4 uplinks to the 4 access switch? Will all the 4 SFP ports active at one time or only 2 SFP ports will be active that is for only active supervisor engine.
we've had an issue with our network, we have 2 6509 connected with redundancy, which are connected with 2 x 4900 Switches, from which are connected to a ESX Chassis for visualization, the thing is that the ESX stopped working, and the 4900 switches, and the main core were suffering from overload, they hang on it very well, in order to stop the overload, one of the links to the ESX Chassis were disconnected from one of the 4900 switches. The CPU usage from the 4900 and the core(6509) went down below 40%, and then they started to migrate the virtual servers from the chassis to another 2 chassis that were added right after. They were actually working well, but suddenly the 6509 changed to the other supervisor after everything was OK. We were wondering what could have been the cause of this, maybe the virtual servers migrations, maybe the overload from the ESX ? We also had a few question, is there any need to reload the cores every few months as a planned task ? Because the cores have been up for more than 1 year. And also is there any kind of of tool to monitor the CPU status, or the status overall from the cores or the switches ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe've got a doubt about the uplink ports of this supervisor. I've read that you have to use the four ports in 10G mode or in 1G mode, but not use for example 1 port in 10G mode and 1 port in 1G mode:
But, you can read in another sentence: " Beginning with Cisco IOS Release 12.2(25)SG, you could simultaneously deploy the dual 10-Gigabit.Ethernet ports and the four Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports on the Catalyst 4503, Catalyst 4506, and Catalyst 4507R chassis." Is it posible deploy simultaneously both type of ports?
We're trying to configure our Cisco 4507 (Supervisor Engine IV) to allow a new Dell server with a pair of Broadcom 5708 GigE NIC's to aggregate its NIC's to give us a 2gbps link to the switch.
So far we seem to have got the team and LACP up and enabled, but the adaptor that the Broadcom Admin Util creates for the team is only showing a 1gbps connection where I would have expected it to show as 2gbps.
The individual NICs show as connected at 1gbps. We're not Cisco experts so are struggling on how to get the 2 NICs to aggregate.
On the server side we've done nothing other than create a team using 802.3ad LINk Aggregation using LACP.
This is what I think the relevent output from "sho conf" is, more available if needed.

Both outside interfaces of 7204 gateways are connecting to 7609 with different public ip block.I used VRRP for my internal nework and failover have been tested working.Even tried to remove link of 7204-A and 7609, the failover works perfect. But somehow we're facing a problem:
- If I shutdown/ remove the link between my 4507R-E and 7204-A (primary gw_higher vrrp priority), vrrp redundancy/failover still works but internal network's internet connection goes down.
I asked our ISP and the route commands they put in their 7609 are as of follows:
ip route 3.8.8.0 255.255.255.0 3.4.4.4 name TO CUSTOMER LINK 1
ip route 3.8.8.0 255.255.255.0 3.3.3.3 2 name TO CUSTOMER LINK 2
And if they're trying to use Reliable Static Routing Backup Using Object Tracking, the internal network's internet connections is intermittent....alternate 4 ping reply and 4 timeout.
Note: IP used are sample only

Data sheet for supervisor engine 2T wrote that for maximum performance you should DFC4. I'm a bit confused. I didn't any useful information about it:
1. DFC4 is a separate module(consumes 1 slot)? Does it have any ports on it?
2. Is it a daughter card? If yes, should it be installed on supervisor or it should be installed on line cards?
Removing and Installing a Supervisor Engine on a cisco router 7690 and more important IOS upgrade of this module.
I need some kind of manual, but I would prefer a short procedure to do this change. A brief of the steps to do that. Also i don't if i have to upgrade the new module after install it.
