Cisco Switching/Routing :: 881 Vlan Administratively Down After Each Reload Or Power Down

Feb 19, 2013

I have a problem with the Cisco 881 router at one of our customers.It seems that after a "no shutdown" has been given on the Vlan interface, it still goes back to "administratevly down" after a reboot.So when I restart the router I always have to manually "no shutdown" the Vlan interface to come back up.While rebooting the router it also gives the following info in the console screen every time which is strange:

new interface Vlan1 placed in "shutdown" state.We tried several different firmware releases.

Replacing the router with a new Cisco 881 router did not work either. After they sent back the old Cisco 881 router we tested it here and there were no problems, we weren't able to replicate the problem.The configuration we use for the router is correct, we use it for hundreds of customers, so that can't be it either.The customer uses a fortinet firewall behind the router. Could it be that something inside the LAN of the customer that triggers the Vlan to shut down?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4500 VLAN Administratively Down

Dec 10, 2012

read the posts regarding vlans that are administratively down, they suggested that they are down if no ports are assigned to them, however I do have a switchport assigned, and the interface is still down. This is on the vtp server and on the clients. The vlan is not listed when issuing show vlan brief. Other vlans configured in a similar way do show and their interfaces are up. These are two Catalyst 4948-10G.Cisco IOS Software, Catalyst 4500 L3 Switch Software (cat4500-IPBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(53)SG5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 881 Loses NAT NVI Mappings After Reload?

Dec 12, 2012

I've just purchased a new Cisco 881.I'm using NAT NVI for my inbound static mappings. However, regardless of the fact that the config is saved to nvram, after a reload of the router, the NAT mappings are setup as traditional inside/outside mappings. This means that inbound connections in to the router on the required services fail, until someone logs on to the router and re-applies the NVI mappings.

SSH has been enabled on our one and only 4507 switch for several months and working fine. A few weeks ago the switch had to be reloaded and when it was back online I couldn't SSH to it. When I connected via the console and typed "show ip ssh" it came back saying I needed to generate the keys.  Did that  and it starting working again.  The same switch had to turned off and on the other day due to a power down in the server room and when it came back the same thing happened again!!

Cisco Switching/Routing :: C3750 SFP Failure After Reload

Mar 11, 2013

I have a cable from an SFP module in a WS-C3750-48P with 12.2(55)SE1 running to a Gigabit port on a Cisco WLC. After the switch recovers from a power failure, the gigabit autonegotiation fails. The cure is a long drive to unplug and reseat the SFP. Note this happens at too many similar sites for this to be a loose connection. Interface shutdown then 'no shutdown' is not sufficient. The state is 'line protocol is down (not connected)'. Interface is configured for switchport mode trunk (auto speed, auto duplex). Command 'switchport nonegotiate' makes no difference. Is there a more powerful command than 'shutdown' which might toggle the interface signals? Is there some way of resetting the SFP? sh int gi 1/0/1 displays 'media type is 10/100/1000BaseTX SFP' and zero packets received.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Sup 720 MSFC3 (HOT) Reload In 6509 Chassis

Mar 9, 2013

We have a backup sup 720 which has a 2 gigabit ethernet though port channel, to another chassis. Suddenly UDLD detected an error and got into err disable, then this err disable didn't let the interface set to DOWN, and created a switch loop, then our Supervisor reloaded. I'd like to know what could have caused this reload. In my opinion could have a been the switch loop, but also I've been checking from the output interpreter the show tech and might have been a bug, the only one that could match in IOS version 12.2(33)SXH, is this one: url...

We're going to disable err-disable next time I guess and recover the link manually, apart from that what could have made the sup for crash and reload?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - UDLD After Switch Reload

Sep 12, 2010

I have the following problem with

Situation:
- 2x 3750G-12S Distribution-Switches (DS) and several 3560/2960 Access-Switches (AS)
- redundant Fiber optic uplinks between AS and DS
- Cross-Stack Etherchannel config on all uplinks
- UDLD aggressive mode configured on all uplinks

Problem:
- when I reload the DS and the switch comes up again, I've lost the connection with several (not all) AS
- looking at the AS log I found the following error message: "%UDLD-4-UDLD_PORT_DISABLED: UDLD disabled interface Gi0/1, aggressive mode failure detected"

Cause:
- in the log of the AS I don't see intf Gi0/1 go down during the reload of the DS
- this means the DS didn't shuts down all its ports during the reload
- but this also means that UDLD on AS didn't know about DS reload, and therefore didn't resets counters

Workaroud/Solution
- I'm now configuring errdisable recovery on all AS

So I'm forced to configure errdisable recovery, even if I don't want.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Power-Redundancy Mode Combined And Power Fail

Feb 28, 2011

I have a 6500 chassis with 2 power supplies. At the moment  I am using the default configuration:

power-redudancy mode redundant

The problem is that an inserted module is in "power deny" state due too insufficient power.

I know, that It's not a good idea to change into combined mode (loss of redundancy), but my customers requested this anyway.

So I will change to combined mode. So here's the 1 million dollar question: "Which modules will go into power deny, if one of my power supplies fails?"

The 6500 config guide states:

"Power supply is removed withredundancy disabled
• System log and syslog messages are generated.
• System power is decreased to the power capability of one supply.
• If there is not enough power for all previously powered-up modules, some modulesare powered down and marked as power-deny in the show power oper state field."

Well, do you know if there's any way to configure some kind of priority? E.g. I definetly don't want by 10Gig Module or WiSM module to be in power deny. Can i statically make sure, those module will be powered on for sure? Like: "power enable module slot_number" How is this calculated? Or is random?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Extending VLAN To Remote Switch That Already Has VLAN ID In Use

Jan 10, 2013

I have two networks at two sites with a dot1q trunk between the two L3 switches at both sites (no routers involved)

SITE A - Cisco 3750 L3 - VLAN ID 50
10.10.50.0/24

SITE B - Cisco 3750 L3 - VLAN ID 50
10.20.50.0/24

I would like to extend the SITE A VLAN to SITE B so that I can move hosts from SITE A to SITE B without needing to change their IP address but the vlan ID is already in use. Obviously the easy solution is to change the VLAN ID for one or other of the sites but both sites contain hosts that run 24/7. Is there a way to join two VLANs with different IDs together.So for example I create a new VLAN 60 at SITE B and associate it with VLAN 50 at SITE A.

One linux machine is connected on FastEthernet port 0 on each router. The two linux machines are on same vlan. I am trying to establish a vlan-to-vlan tunnel between the routers and send traffic between the linux machines.

I followed the case study 11.4 from [URL] and configured the l2tp-class and pseudowire-class. However, the vlan interface configuration is different on 890 router.

I configured a vlan interface as follows.

(config)#vlan 200

#shutdown
#switchport access vlan 200
(config)# interface vlan 200

I don't see the 'xconnect' command in this context. What's wrong with my configuration?

We have a low bandwith (15-20 Mbit/s) to the ASA from our Client vlan. If i connect the Client to the same vlan as the ASA is, the bandwith (90 Mbit/s) is good.

Here are the Layer 3 Design:

Client     ->     vlan 2 - Switch - vlan 7     ->     vlan 1 - ASA 5505     ->     ISP

The Layer 2 Design:
