Cisco Switching/Routing :: Supervisor 7-E / 7L-E Port Numbering

Jan 30, 2013

How the port numbering would be on Sup 7-E and Sup 7L-E? I mean, on Sup-6E and Sup-6LE, if I used a twin-gig converter, I used ports gi3/3,gi3/4,gi3/5 and Gi3/6 [If the sup is in 3rd Slot]. I know there are now 4 ports on the Sup 7 which can either be used as Gig ports or TenGig ports. So, how will the port numbering change ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: WS-X4640-CSFP-E Port Numbering?

Aug 15, 2012

Concerning the WS-X4640-CSFP-E module, I was surprised to realize when I got it that the ports are numbered 1-80 rather than 1-40. Then I saw it is actually an 80 port blade when you use half-SFP's. But we have full SFP's, so how does it do the numbering? If I use all full-SFP modules, do the even-numbered ports just go unconfigured?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Interface Numbering Plan On CAT4500E With SUP7-E Or SUP7L-E

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 QoS Output Dscp-map Queue Numbering Mis-match?

Note that these queues are numbered 0 - 3, and not 1 - 4.  We've been assuming that the first queue number in the "mls qos" (i.e., 1) command maps to the first queue (i.e., 0) in the "show mls qos" command.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Enabling Port Security On C4507R Shuts Down Port

Aug 13, 2012

I'm trying to enable port security on several 4507R's. When I try to configure a range of ports the switch will randomly put 1 or 2 in err-disable.  It's different every time I apply the config to the same group of ports.  However if I do them one at a time it seems to work.  But I really don't want to configure 6 fully populated switches one port at a time.   We also have a lot of 3750's and they gave me no problem using a port range. Cisco Switching/Routing :: 7900 - Port Configuration With IP Phone And PC On Same Port

Jan 15, 2013

We just installed a hosted VOIP system using Cisco 7900 series IP phones.  We are having a strange issue with a few computers where they pull DHCP information from our VOIP provider's DHCP server on the Internet and not our LAN DHCP server.

The switchports areconfigured as: switchport mode access

My rationale behind this is that the phones would use CDP to get their VLAN info from the providers Cisco router and the PCs would just ride on the default VLAN.  But this is not the case.  Computers randomly keep getting DHCP info from the provider's router.  Do I have to use voice vlan x and make the switchports trunks?

Cisco Switching / Routing :: 3560 - Management Port Used As Regular Port?

Jan 30, 2012

I have an all gigE  3560.  I don't use the management FE0 port on the back.  I was thinking to use that for a 100Mbps WAN connection.

Seems to work just fine when I plugged in an test.  But I am not routing across that link yet as I still need to setup the far end.

Is there any reason this would not work?  I would like to not burn a gig port if the max throughput of the circuit is 100Mbps.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Lose Lot Of Bandwidth Over Trunk Port (vs Access Port) 3750g

Feb 18, 2013

I have a 3750g connected to a "core" switch stack of 7 other 3750g's via 2 GigE ports in a trunk.  This is currently in a switchport mode access port- channel so only the default vlan data is sent over. Now we have a need due to physical location of these switches, to allow vlan20 (DMZ) from this 3750g to the switch stack.  I will configure a few ports on the switch stack for vlan20 and they need to be able to talk to the stand alone 3750g.To do this I will change the port channel on both endpoints to

-switchport trunk ecapsulation dot1q

-switchport mode dynamic desirable

also making the appropriate change on the interfaces belonging to this trunk.My question is, now that its a trunk port that carries multiple VLANs, how much is the bandwidth reduced on that 2gbps link?I have a very active VLAN (10) on the stand alone switch, but on the core I'm not going to be assigning VLAN 10 to any ports.  So does traffic from VLAN10 even come across the trunk (wasting bandwidth) if no ports on the core side are assigned to it?  I really just need vlan 1 and 20 (for now).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3825 ISR - Traffic Route From Switch Port To Router Port

Jun 5, 2013

I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level.  I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other.  I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it.  This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports.  I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port.  It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere.  I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port.  However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.

It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Replacing 3750 24 Port With 3750 48 Port?

May 21, 2012

We have a stack of switches that is at the max number of members allowed in the stack. Problem is we are running out of port density and need to add more ports. So instead of adding a whole new stack I would rather replace 2 of the 24-port swicthes with 48-port switches.

If the two 24-port swicthes we are removing are stack members and neither of them are the stack master, I should be able to replace the 24-port switches with the 48-port switches without bringing the master offline? If the new 48-port switches are running the same IOS version as the current 24-port swicthes, they should add themselves to the stack?Would I have to tell the new 48-port swicthes what switch numbers they are replacing in order for them to be added to the stack since we are at the max number of members?Also since the 48-port swicthes are replacing 24-port switches will the master give the 48-port switches the configuration for only the 24-ports?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 876 - Port Forwarding Used From Internet

I have an problem with my new Cisco 876 Router. I configured port forwarding to access internal network devices from the internet . This works good from external but  with my old Fritz box I was able to connect to this internal devices from the same internal network with the dyndns address.

So here is a short review for this:

DYNDNS Address port tcp 80 - > 192.168.0.80 tcp port 80

from ex tern it works but with source address example 192.168.0.20 to destination DYNDNS address tcp 80 (maps to 192.168.0.80 tcp 80 ) it doesn't work. Is there any trick in the config of cisco to let this scenario work?
