Cisco Switching/Routing :: SR520-FE-K9 Initial Setup Blocks HTTP

Sep 4, 2012

I have a fresh SR520 that I only did two things to it using CCA 3.2(1):

1.  Assign the address of FA4 to be 1.23.456.90 with a mask of 255.255.255.252
2. Declared a static nat of 1.23.456.90 port 80 to 192.168.75.12 port 80

I connected laptops to two ports:

1. FA0 (DHCP assigned laptop the address 192.168.75.12)
2. FA4 with the address on the laptop set to 1.23.456.90 and mask of 255.255.255.252

This is an exercise to simulate a cable internet configuration I will install the SR520 into.I can ping and point my browser to 1.23.456.89 and access the web server running there on port 80 via the inside laptop.I CANNOT point my browser to 1.23.456.90 from the outside laptop and make a connection.

What I am doing wrong with NAT?  (I believe the problem lies therein as I did even try telling CCA to delete the firewall and I still could not connect to the inside web server).I have a network monitor (Wireshark) on the inside and see nothing coming across.  I THINK I see successful NAT translations in the NAT logging (also in the attachment).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 891W ISR - Can't Do Initial Setup?

Nov 6, 2011

I'm new to using Cisco Config Professional Express but a lot of things are just "off" with this utility.  But my problem for this post is specifically the 891W's internal access point, or initial access to it.

My situation is that I have some 891W's.  It's my first time working with them, as well as with CCP Express (2.5).  After isolating the router and my PC to their own network, using the IP my PC got via DHCP frmo the router I opened a web broswer and connected to the router.  The initiial configuration wizard came up and I went through the various screens.  One of those screens had basic config info for the internal wireless AP which I provided.  Somewhere in that screen it asked for a Hostname for the AP, and a password.  It doesn't askfor a username though.  To ensure I wouldn't run into confision, I made sure to set every password I ever get asked to configure as the same thing so the AP's password was also the same.

However after I finish with the wizard, the java-based CCP Express begins prompting me for first the main router credentials which I provide and it gets the router config, then it prompts mefor the username/password for the Access Point.  First of all, the initial config wizard had never asked me for the username for the access point, only the hostname, and the password.  I had assumed it was just going to use the main router username, or perhaps a blank username.

In any case, nothing I type ever works.  I've used cisco/cisco, or a blank username with my new password, or the same username as the main router with the password ---- nothing.  This is now the 4th time I have completely Reset the router to factory defaults and while I am learning the use of CCP Express through repetition, I'd also like to get this thing configured and out the door so my customer can use it.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 891 Initial Configuration?

Jan 9, 2013

On a recommendation from a network engineer, I got a used Cisco 891.  Having worked with small business routers most of my working life, I thought this should not be a problem.  However, I had no clue these things used a console and command line to initialize.  I have the console cable, am able to console into the device, but am haphazardly issuing command lines straight out of the PDF manual but cannot get Cisco CP to discover the device.

From what I can tell, I am stuck at the point where the manual tells me to enable http server.  I ran the command lines several times, executed write mem where available, but when I run the show services command, http is not enabled.

And if you do refere to command lines, I was reading some other forums and they were speaking of "run this command, run that command" but I could not make out the correct syntax, in what mode, whether it be config or config t, etc.  So I might need a wee bit of handholding.

I'm hoping that once I can get Cisco CP or CPE to discover the device, I can make my way through the GUI to configure since those usually do make sense to me.  As of now, I'm in the thick of it ...

I'm trying to set up a new ASA 5510. I have a pretty simple set up with one /24 on the inside NATed to a DHCP address on the outside. Everything on the inside works and I can ping the outside interface from external devices. No matter what I do I can't get anything internal to route across the border to the outside and back. To try and eliminate ACL issues as a possibility I added permit any any rules to the incoming access lists on the inside and outside interfaces. Here's the sh run.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Netflow On SR520

Mar 18, 2013

I have a SR520 just deployed at a remote site with Internet Access.

Working Environment:
Remote sites have SR520 with IPSEC VPN back to HQ and netflow v.5 works through the VPN back to our PRTG server.

Non-Working:
I cannot get Netflow data to our PRTG with this first SR520 implemented with Zone Base Security.  I am not able to get my netflow traffic out.  VPN is up and running.  Internet is a dialer0 interface.  I have a Kron job that does the copy run to tftp backup daily to the same PRTG server and it works fine.

Both my source interface and address on the TFTP command and the netflow commands are the same interfaces (VLAN75) and IP.  The Destination ip is the same too (through the VPN tunnel).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Perform Initial Configuration Of 4900m Switch?

Jan 2, 2013

I am slowly working my way though the setup and configuration of our new 4900m switch.  The switch will have a pretty basic operational configuration. We are simply going to network 3 servers together through the swtich.  Anyhow, I have been fallowing the guide at this site: [URL]

Basically the switch is brand new and I just setup things such as the clock, the banner, and the hostname.  Anyhow, at various points in the guide such as the configuration of the telnet password and especially the interface gigabitethernet I get the "invalid input detected at '^' marker".  I also did a show interfaces and noticed there was not any gigabitethernet interfaces but there was a

"FastEthernet1 is down, line protocol is down Hardware is Fast Ethernet for out of band management, address i"

Anyhow, my thinking is continuing on with the guide and at least try to setup the interface for the management port so I can then use the cisco network assistant gui to then configure the rest of the switch.

Cisco :: 851W Initial Setup / SDM Wizard Fails

Jun 21, 2011

I bought a Cisco 851W router from a coworker about a year ago and tried setting it up at my home with nothing but headaches. I finally gave up and went with DD-WRT and have yet to look back (my $40 router outperforms this thing on so many levels, but I'm getting off-topic!). I recently re-discovered this beast and pulled it out of storage to see if I could get a test network setup at home to practice on. I checked for any IOS updates and downloaded (and installed) the lastest image (c850-advsecurityk9-mz.124-15.T15.bin). I consoled in and verified the initial 10.10.10.1 IP was configured in the VLAN1 interface and directly connected a PC to one of the switchports and pulled a 10.10.10.2 address. I pull up SDM from my browser (I have used FF, IE, and Chrome, all with the same results. Java version is the latest, 6 Update 26.) and it launches the initial configuration wizard. I go through the steps and get up to the DHCP Configuration (after LAN, before Internet/WAN setup) and try to click Next and nothing happens. It doesn't freeze as I can easily go Back, but can never move forward beyond the DHCP configuration. Pressing Cancel on the wizard just shuts down SDM as a whole and exits.

In my troubleshooting steps, I did notice that as soon as I click Next in the DHCP configuration, nothing will happen in the wizard, but the SDM window in the background will automatically present the "Apply Changes" and "Discard Changes" buttons, which weren't there in the previous steps. Of course, neither of those are clickable due to the wizard being open. I really don't want to configure this thing from scratch using the CLI if I don't have to..is there ANY way I can bypass the SDM Wizard at all? Also, I'm running SDM Express, would downloading ASDM and trying to connect from there make any difference?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 2900XL Blocks PC?

Jan 21, 2012

I try to insert a picture, to make the situation easily understandable.

The problem: After I have connected one more PC to the unmanaged switch, it cannot connect to network neither by DHCP IP, nor Static IP. (Physical Link is Ok, but no communication)

Tests made:

- PC1 turned off, to test connection, but PC2 cannot connect

- portfast has been turned off on the port of Cisco (which connects to Mediaconverter), but PC2 cannot connect

- PC2 has been reinstalled, replaced, other network adapter has been inserted, but cannot connect.

- the unmanaged switch has been replaced to a new one, but no success.

PC2 can connect to Cisco only if connected directly to RJ45 port of D-link Mediaconverter. But this is not a solution, because in that office, I would need for both of the PCs.

Cisco Wireless :: 6500 - Unable To Connect Via GUI After Initial WISM2 Setup

Feb 7, 2013

I've installed our previous WISMs and other WISM2s previously and never had a problem.

6500 running SXJ2. WISM2 running 7.3.101.0 (which is what the rest of our WISM2s are on)

Insert WISM and go through initial setup. Run a show wism status on the 6500, and show sysinfo on the WISM. All looks good. Service port and management vlans are up. From the 6500 I can ping the service port IP, but not the management IP. From the WISM I can't ping the managment default gw but I can the service port. Unable to get anything back from the GUI..not surprising as not even ping works.

Now, as I said I've done it this way many times before...in fact I'm following my documentation from the last successful implementation and even adding in Cisco docs.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: RV120W Blocks DSL Modem Configuration?

Nov 9, 2011

I work for a small pharmacy that uses a Cisco RV120W router to separate hospital VPN traffic from general internet traffic. The VPN traffic is redirected to a dedicated T1 line (Or T-something, I wasn't involved in the actual setup of the VPN) connecting our store directly to the local hospital, and general internet traffic gets redirected to a ZyXel PK5000Z DSL modem (We have Qwest/CenturyLink 7m/768k). The DSL modem is running the latest version of our ISP's custom firmware.

Prior to installing the VPN and RV120W, LAN traffic was handled with a basic D-Link DI-604 wired router. The router itself was configured with an IP of 10.100.100.254 (With all LAN clients assigned DHCP IPs in the 10.100.100.XXX range) and "WAN" IP of 192.168.0.4, and the modem configured with a LAN IP of 192.168.0.1. The router was connected from it's WAN port to one of the LAN ports on the modem.

The modem has it's own built-in router, but the store owner wished to have an "extra layer of protection", so to speak, and had the D-Link router installed to serve that purpose. Prior to connecting the VPN, a second router was admittedly redundant and unnecessary. However, now that we have the hospital VPN, a second router is REQUIRED to properly separate the VPN traffic from other internet traffic, since the router built into the DSL modem doesn't have the capabilities to perform this task (We had already attempted to operate the VPN over DSL...it failed miserably and spectacularly. A dedicated T1 was the only reliable option).Anyway, when installing the RV120W, we duplicated every possible setting from the old router, including configuring it with a LAN IP of 10.100.100.254 and a "WAN" IP of 192.168.0.4 and connecting it in exactly the same fashion as the old router (Modem LAN to Router WAN). Essentially, the RV120W was set up exactly the same as the old D-Link router, just with the added VPN functionality.

The problem is this: ever since installing the RV120W, we are no longer able to access the DSL modem's administration page (http://192.168.0.1). We were able to do this without any trouble whatsoever with the old D-Link router, but the RV120W seems to be blocking it somehow. Any attempt to load the modem administration page just forever sits at "Waiting for 192.168.0.1...". It never times out, it never shows any error messages. It just sits there, forever trying to load the page, showing nothing but "Waiting for 192.168.0.1..." at the bottom of the screen.

Now, we know for a fact that it is NOT a problem with the modem, because if we connect a computer directly to it via ethernet (Completely bypassing the RV120W), the administration page loads perfectly fine. And, admittedly, we could configure the modem in this manner whenever required. HOWEVER, the modem is located in a rather inconvenient location (In the ceiling, sitting on top of a ceiling tile), and having the ability to remotely manage it like we could before would definitely be something we want to be able to do again...especially since there are plans in motion to install new pharmacy equipment that will require us to do a ton of "trial and error" configuration to the modem. The RV120W has been updated with the latest firmware, yet the problem still persists.

Cisco Infrastructure :: CCA 3.1(1) Device Setup Wizard Not Working For SR520-FE(W)?

Jan 5, 2012

Steps to repeat the bug:

1)  Physical Reset of SR520-FE to factory defaults

2)  Run CCA 3.1(1) and connect to 192.168.75.1 using the default cisco/cisco login

3)  Under the Home Menu, click the Device Setup Wizard

4)  In Step 1, sellect the SR520 and observe that there is also a photograph of the SR520-FE(W) model displayed as feedback for Step 1

5)  Try variations of Steps 2 through 4

Note:  Step 4 has a problem because it says to plug the power into the device, but if the power was not already plugged in to begin with, we could not run the Device Setup Wizard in the first place.

6)  Step 5 prompts for a user name and password.

BUG:  No permutations of the documented default usernames and passwords "cisco" or "admin" work.  The result is always the error dialog:Device Connectivity Status - "Failure: Not Connected.""Return to Step 1.  Make sure that your PC is not connected to a network and you follow all the instructions."A search of the web indicates others are also had this unresolved issue with previous CCA releases.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 Unable To Redirect Http Traffic

Mar 26, 2012

On a Catalyst 6509 switch I have configured wccp protocol in order to redirect the Http traffic to a Bluecoat SG8100. It was working fine until a new L3 interface implementation.Thereafter I was unable to redirect the http traffic due to an error reported from the Cat6509: [code] After some checks I supposed that the problem should be the UDP 2048 port connection between the Switch and the Bluecoat while the switch L3 port and the bluecoat are on the same Lan. A deep analysis found that the WCCP protocol seems to be as follow:

-Proxy address 10.64.28.240 to Switch Port 10.64.28.250 Here I Am
-Switch Port 10.64.28.250 to Proxy address 10.64.28.240 I See You
-Switch Port 10.66.0.251 to Proxy address 10.64.28.240 UDP 2048 packet (dropped by firewall)

It's strange to me that the first dialog is correctly handled by the correct Cat6509 interface while the UDP packets are flowing from another Vlan interface not configured with the WCCP and apparently not involved on the protocol.Last of all the WCCP is now disabled and unusable?
