Cisco VPN :: 877 ADSL Router Which Won't Allow To Play With VPNs

May 20, 2011

I have a Cisco 877 ADSL router which won't let me play with my VPNs like I used to in pre-Cisco days.I have a VPN server which resides on the inside of the network which used to get it's L2TP as well as PPTP tunnels passed straight through the ADSL router. No problems there with the old router. Now I opened the relevant ports for both TCP and UDP on the 877, but VPN simply won't establish when trying to connect from the outside. Process of getting the 877 to stop wanting to take charge of things VPN and just pass them off to an inside server?

I need to VPN into my work from my laptop on the private side of the 877. This works fine until after authentication, then the VPN connection goes silent, no traffic going through. Works fine when for instance using my iphone hotspot to connect through from my laptop. It's only not working when the 877 is in the equation.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 - Shoutcast Will Not Play When Going Through Router

Sep 6, 2012

I have been trying to connect to an online radio station, a shoutcast. I am unable to do this when connected to my EA3500. I do not think it is a port issue since I can connect to a different station using the same port. I can listen to many other shoutcast streams with no problems.

A friend with an older Linksys router is able to connect to the station with no problems.

I have turned off the ipv4 firewall, ipv6 firewall. I've tried DMZ, port triggering, forwarding. Still the stream will not play. I use the Winamp player, Windows Media player, Real player. All the other shoutcast streams I have tried work, but not the one I need to work.

If I bypass the router it works fine on any of my 4 pc desktops, 4 laptops. My iphone using the winamp app can not get the stream if using the wirless, but can if I turn off wirless and use 3G.

I am writing a radio series for this station and it starts airing the show in a couple of weeks, I really want to be able to hear it without eating up my data on my phone.

Wrt52g2 Router - Wifi Disconnects When Play Online Games

Feb 3, 2012

I have just bought one of these linksys routers to try and solve a problem I am having with disconnects when playing online games with a ps3 and also some moderate firewall states with some games. My isp is bt and I have a black home hub v2, the problem with this router is that it does not like doing dmz or port forwarding for that matter very successfuly, apparently the new router I have bought is much better at these things. So I'm trying to figure out if its best for me to buy a modem to go with this router or to configure the hh to work as a modem only. Also if I get a new modem will this cause any problems with using the bt vision services.

Belkin Play N600 Exposing USB Hard Drive Attached To Router Within Sub-network

Aug 30, 2012

I recently purchased the Belkin PLAY N600 router to create a private network for my home theatre setup.I have a primary home network 192.168.0.x (NetGear) which I use for all my computing needs. I extended a network cable to my Home theatre area and plugged in the N600 router. After this, I attached a USB external hard drive to the router and it works great. I can see it from the 192.168.2.x home theatre network (Belkin).I would like to expose the USB hard drive hooked to the Belkin Router to my primary network so that I can copy over my music and pictures without having to physically move the hard driveonto a PC connected to the primary domain. The Belkin router has a DMZ function which exposes an IP on its internal (192.168.2.x)network to the external (192.168.0.103) network. Is it feasible to expose the USB drive to my primary home network?

Range Extenders work off of the idea of pulling a signal from the Base Station and then repeating the signal frequently, this generally causes rebuffering issues with most wireless devices within a network.I believe I need a wireless extender that does not repeat the signal, more of a wireless access point.

SMCD3G Cable Modem / Belkin Play N600 Router - Small Office Network?

Apr 21, 2011

I'm trying to network a small office and have the following devices:

SMCD3G Cable Modem
Belkin Play N600 Router
Digi Mil-H1130 8 Port Ethernet SOHO Hub
Hubbel Cat5 Patch Panel (goes up to 12)

We're replacing our DSL line with a Cable line. Our DSL was a one piece wireless router/modem. When it was installed, it was inside our office, next to the server, and plugged into Wall Jack 1 for all the other computers to connect to. Our server plugged into this modem/router. We didn't have the Belkin Router at the time. The Patch Panel wires went into the Hub behind our office and everything was fine.

The cable modem is now next to the Hub and Patch Panel. I bought the router since we didn't have the wireless feature that the DSL had and everyone I spoke to said I need a router to set up the office. I ran one of the LAN lines from the modem into the Router where it says Modem (WAN). From the Router, I ran the line 1 (LAN) into the Hub. (Does the number matter if nothing is plugged into it in our office?) No computer is able to connect to the internet except my laptop which connects wireless. It works fine.

Another problem. We have a server computer that's Unix based. In order for anyone to connect to the server to access the office software used, the IP address of the router must be 192.9.2.1 or the computer your using won't connect via Multiview 2000 Terminal Emulator. I can't connect to the server because the IP address of the router is still 192.168.2.1. I don't know where I have to go in the router settings to change it. I've tried a few spots and it tells me the IP address is invalid. The settings I had with the DSL modem/router were:

Modem IP address - 192.9.2.1
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
DHCP Start Address - 192.9.2.100
DHCP End Address - 192.9.2.150

It's not like I need to run wires. Everything is set. If something is plugged into a wrong spot, I can switch it.

Additional info:
There are 4 computers in the office and 8 numbered wall jacks.
Server computer - Wall jack 8 (IP address of this machine - 192.9.2.25)
XP Machine 1 - Wall jack 4 (can't connect to server! No internet.)
XP Machine 2 - Wall jack 1 (Is able to connect to the server! No internet.)
Win CE Machine - Wall jack 9 -

I assume. I have a wire that goes through the wall on this machine and it isn't marked. (Rarely used so not sure about server connection)

Wireless Windows7 laptop - connects to the internet fine since it bypasses all these wires. Can't connect to server.

Under the DHCP client list, only 2 computers are listed. The one that has internet is my computer. The other computer listed is wall jack 4 and that has internet now.

my computer - 192.9.2.2
wall jack 4 - 192.9.2.3

The router IP is 192.168.2.1 and the Cable Modem is 10.1.10.11. If I type either number into my web browser it will take me to the router setup page. I don't know where/how to check if it's only one device acting as DHCP. What I want to do is be able to get online with all the computers as well as have access to the software on the server through the office wall jacks. In order to do that I need the router IP address to be 192.9.2.1 and then I'd be able to connect to it.

Right now, one computer is able to connect to the server via hard wire but can't connect to the internet.Another computer is able to connect to the internet via hard wire but can't connect to the server. My laptop can connect wireless to the internet but not the server. In a perferct world, all the computers should be able to connect to both the internet and the server. Right now, it's one or the other with both hard wired machines and I don't know why. Is there a wire not in the hub right? Is a patch panel wire plugged into the wrong port of the hub? I don't know what's supposed to go where. tell me "wire X from the modem goes to Port Z of the router, and Wire Y from the the router goes to number V on the Hub, and that wire goes to number T on the patch panel for the Port number R in the office to work..." I'll try it.

Then I think all I need to do is change the router's IP address to 192.9.2.1 and everyone should be able to connect to the server through the Multiview 2000 Terminal Emulator. When I tried to change the IP address on the router it's telling me it's not valid. Under LAN settings it says 192.168.2.1 - when I try to change it to 192.9.2.1 it tells me LAN IP address is invalid. I clicked on More Info below that in the router page and a pop up gives me info. It says:

The "IP address" is the Internal IP address of the Router. To access the advanced setupinterface, type this IP address into the address bar of your browser. This address can be changed if needed. To Change the IP address, type in the new IP address and click "ApplyChanges". The IP address you choose should be a non-routable IP. Examples of a non-routable IP are:

192.168.y.x (where y is anything between 0 and 255, and x is anything between 1 and 254.)

10.y.y.x (where y is anything between 0 and 255, and x is anything between 1 and 254.)

172.z.y.x (where z is anything from 16 to 31, and y is anything between 0 and 255, and x is anything between 1 and 254.)

Cisco VPN :: How Much CPU Impacted By SSL VPNs On ASA 5500

Aug 16, 2011

How much the CPU is impacted by SSL VPNs on Cisco ASA 5500's?I believe that the ASA offloads a lot of its encryption/decryption on a built in VPN accelerator rather than placing load on the main CPU. Is this correct?

According to the ASA 5520 specs - it can handle a throughput of up to 225Mbps of VPN traffic. Of course, it does not say whether this is SSL or IPSEC but I would like to understand what impact say 100Mbps of SSL VPN traffic would have on the main CPU.

We need this information to gauge whether an existing firewall has enough capacity to cope with existing load plus additional new SSL VPNs.

Cisco WAN :: 870 - Failover Routing With VPNs

Mar 24, 2013

I've got a setup where we have a wireless connection coming in and using mikrotik router. We have multiple stores coming in via the wireless with a dmvpn.

The vpn's terminate on the cisco c870 and can be seen when running: show dmvpn. The cisco has a default route to the fibre router (10.0.0.252). The wireless router is the default gateway for the network. The failover from wireless to adsl fails. (due to the cisco routing traffic back to the wireless router when wireless fails)

If I change the default route on the cisco to dialer1, the failover works, but none of the vpn's connect. The Branches all have dynamic ip addresses. The HO has a static ip.

My goal: I want to achieve adsl failover for when the wireless goes down and still have the vpn's connected.

Can I have some sort of "Dynamic" route on the cisco. So when the vpn traffic comes in via wireless and hits the cisco, the vpn traffic can then go back out that way via the wireless router, but still have a default gateway on the dialer interface for failover?

Cisco VPN :: ASA 5510 - Route Between Two VPNs

Feb 22, 2012

I have been endlessly searching around online, and trying things on the firewall, and cant seem to find an answer to this problem. Its probably something really simple right under my nose! I am using an ASA 5510, which currently has a few seperate site-to-site VPN connections configured, which connect to other Cisco devices on clients networks.

I work from home, so also connect to our network using Remote Access VPN (any connect) to connect to the network at the data centre.

Just to be clear, here is my amazingly drawn network diagram:

[[my house]]-------------- <any connect VPN>------------[[ASA 5510 / Data centre]]-----------<site-to-site>-----------------[[Client network]]

The problem I am having, is that I cannot connect directly from my house to the client network, I need to RDP into some server in the data center, then from there I can see the Clients network. Is there routing to be setup somewhere? between VPN's? Ive looked into the routing options on the firewall and cant seem to find anything that works. I've searched for this and cant find answers, even some sources saying its impossible.
