Cisco VPN :: ASA 5505 - WebVPN - Samba CIFS Shares Password Failure

Dec 5, 2012

I am having trouble accessing shares via client SSL VPN. I have an ASA 5505 running 8.4(4)1 The share is on on Ubuntu server 11.04 running Samba 3.5.8

This may not be strictly a Cisco issue and it seems to be an interoperbility issue between ASA and Samba. Or simply the smb.conf configuration.

I suspect the issue is down to the interpretation of Lanman on the ASA as I know the usernames and passwords work correctly when accesing the shares from other platforms (Windows Vista and Ubuntu desktop 12.04)

When monitoring the Samba logs I get the following errors: (amongst others)

ntlm_password_check: NT MD4 password check failed for user testuser
Storing account testuser with RID 1000
check_ntlm_password: sam authentication for user [testuser] FAILED with error

Cisco VPN :: SSO On CIFS Shares For Clientless WebVPN ASA5500

Jun 20, 2012

I currently have a problem with connecting to some CIFS shares on a EMC NAS. I have created some bookmarks for those shares to be used via the client less SSL VPN portal. I have also setup SSO which works properly for web-bookmarks and RDP stuff but not for the CIFS shares.

When I try to access those shares I'll always get a "authentication failed" error message. Afterwards a new log in-box is displayed. I have been able to log in to those shares by using the user-ID prefixed with the domain name [URL]. Log in fails when using only the user-ID or for example DOMAIN user-ID. I have also tried with a share on a different Server (windows2008 R2) which works without any problems.

Cisco Routers :: RV016 VPN To Allow Remote Users To Access Network Shares Via Samba

Jul 4, 2012

My company is using an RV016 router as a gateway to our internal network. My end goal is to allow remote users to access network shares via Samba.I've been trying to create a VPN using the router with absolutely no luck. I've tried QuickVPN. I've tried creating a client-to-site group vpn. I've tried creating a client-to-site tunnel vpn. I've tried pptp. Nothing will allow me to establish a VPN connection. Sometimes there is information logged in the router but most of the time there is not.

Access Domain Network Shares Without User / Password Authentication?

Sep 21, 2011

I`ll get straight to the point. I have at work a domain of computers. on one of the computers (I have admin rights) I want to share a folder that can be accessed by other computers that are not in the domain. By default accessing that share requires a user/pass. My question is: can I configure something on the computer (running windows 2008 server) to the shared folder so that other computers that are not from the domain will gain access to without user/pass requirement (like a normal share)?

Cisco VPN :: 5505 - RDP To Terminal Server Failure

May 2, 2012

I am running ASA 5505 release 8.2(4) using a clientless SSL vpn to connect  my assessors to the server via RDP to a Terminal server.  Everything was working fine until last week when we had a Internet outage. During the outage some of the assessors claimed to have accepted a Cisco add-on to get into the site.  once the internet came backup they could not connect to the terminal servers - what would happen is they would click on the link - say OK to connect the clipboard and the screen would pause for a few seconds then right back to the select options page.

they can get to other servers (non-terminal servers) but not to the ones they need.   I can recreate the issue by waiting a REALLY long time before replying to a prompt to install an cisco add-on.  I have users that can connect and others than can not.  Also this only seems to affect Internet Explorer 8 and 9  does not affect Firefox

Cisco WAN :: 3825 - Slow CIFS Over WAN

Jul 4, 2012

This is a multi site network. Site A has a Cisco 3825 router and connects to 3 other sites over ISP A and 2 other sites over ISP B. Both ISP A & B provide a layer 2 full mesh network. ISP A provides a 100mb pipe while ISP B provides a 20mb pipe.

File transfers (Windows - CIFS) over ISP A's fiber are fast enough and throughput is good. However, file transfers (Windows - CIFS) over ISP B's fiber are slow, even though latency is good. On the 100MB ISP A pipe, file transfer speeds up to 6 M Bps are achieved. On the ISP B 20MB pipe, speeds up to 300KBps are seen for file transfers.

ISP A connects to an on board gig port on the 3825. ISP B connects to a fast ethernet port on an HWIC-2FE card on the same 3825. Both ports then connect to ISP Switches and then full meshed to remote site Cisco routers. What could be the issue? Why am I facing these issues only with ISP B even though the configs for ISP A and ISP B are the same?

Samba Share Browsing Very Slow?

Dec 8, 2011

i recently had a RAID Z setup on Solaris 10 (oracle) which worked fine until my motherboard gave out (computer would boot fine and work OK and then shut down ~ 20 min later). So I replaced the motherboard (ASUS E35M1-I Fusion AMD E-350 APU) but solaris would not install so I put in OPENINDIANA (build 151). I installed Samba and used my old smb.conf file (below). I can view the share from my win 7 machine, and the transfer speeds look good (I can stream an HD movie fine). The problem is that for browsing pictures every 10 pictures or so the viewer or browser stalls for 30 sec - 1 min before it is able to load the next picture. It also happens when I browse to different directories.

Home Network :: Samba User Different File Path

Mar 5, 2011

I run a home private server on Centos 5.5 I believe. A while ago, a surge destroyed a different computer with pictures on it that my parents would like to access. The hard drive itself is just fine, and I've backed up those files on an external hard drive. What I would like to do is allow my parents to access them through Samba. Samba has already been in long time use, but it is configured to only allow access in a jail inside each user's home folder on the root hard drive. I have a suitable hard drive already formatted and mounted that can fit all the pictures that they wish to have access too. What I'd like to do, is change the path that one of my users use to the mounted hard drive.

Accessing Shares On Other Domain

Mar 14, 2012

Have a school which is split into 2 domains (and 2 different subnets). A logged in windows domain user from domain A needs to access a windows share on domain B. So I made a bat file on the pc in domain A to map a drive to the share on domain B, using the net use command but specifying login credentials of a domain user from domain B.The pc on domain A has it's hosts file edited so it can access the server on domain B which the share is on, ping and everything to this server works fine.I created a user in domain B with the corresponding login details as in the batch file, same un and pwd, it didn't work. If I specify the un and pwd in the batch file as the domain admin account on domain B, it works fine everytime. I'm pretty sure it's not a premissions thing as I have given the inital user that I specified in the batch file full control to the share permissions and security permissions on the share in question, it still wouldn't work.

All I can think of, but can't put into good technical words, is that this user I am specifying in the batch file not only needs to have access to the share itself but has to enter the other domain as well, would there be some protocol or something in which it does not have permissions to use effictively but the domain admin clearly does as it works fine for domain admin?
