Cisco WAN :: 1812j How To Limit Dialing Based On Amount Of Communication Cost

May 18, 2011

I have 1812j with ISDN line.Recently Accidentaly the ISDN Router was dialing every 1 minute because of the config was not right. It was too late to find out.And I got the expensive bill from the telephone company.

The idea is I want to stop dialing if the dialing cost is over than appropriate amount. For example, if dialing cost reach to $200, then stop dialing and alert to the system administator by E-mail or something. There is the way to limit the timed-out but this won't work for that.

WRT54G2 - Monitor And Limit Amount Of Bandwidth Everyone Uses?

Sep 10, 2012

So lately this week, one rogue user from the boarding house has been downloading(possibly torrenting)/streaming to his/her heart's content resulting in extremely slow connections for everyone else. I've been using an Android app to list all devices connected to the network, and one-by-one, manually disconnected each one to find the problematic, bandwidth-hogging IP. I've found that said user continued to use up bandwidth even up to the wee hours of the morning.

I managed to find his/her IP address, I know I could just block sites/ports via the router's control panel but I guess it's not that simple because: a.) Whoever setup the wireless on our floor forgot the username/password combo(not even the landlady knows) b.) I've asked management about asking for access to the router. Being the IT student on the floor, I guess I'll take the responsibility of at least limiting the rogue user's bandwidth so everyone else on our floor has a fair share.

So my question is: is there a way to limit an IP/application's bandwidth usage via a non-router control panel method, without having to do a hard reset on the router? I have tried in vain to use the Android app I used, but all it takes is a router reboot to disable it (said user knows how to reset the router). It's been days since we've had a stable connection for legitimate schoolwork usage because of this one IP that's using up all the resources.

The router on our floor is a Linksys WRT54G2 and my operating system is Windows 7 64-bit.

Cisco :: ACLs To Limit Ports With Client - Based VPN Tunnel

Jun 16, 2011

I have a customer I've built a webvpn tunnel for.Users on this tunnel need to have http access to a server at 10.1.1.12 and nothing else. That's fine, but in order for name resolution to work properly they need to be able to send DNS requests to 10.1.1.9.I'm working with two different access lists, my non access list (nat 0) and my split tunnel access list. I can't specify ports in the nat 0 access list, but I did try writing my split tunnel access list as follows:

-access-list split permit ip host 10.1.1.12 172.16.4.0 255.255.255.0
-access-list split permit udp host 10.1.1.9 eq 53 172.16.4.0 255.255.255.0

When I do that users can access the 10.1.1.9 dns server, but they can hit it on anything (ping, 3389, etc.).I'm trying to figure out how I can limit them so they will only be able to pull dns but nothing else. They have the Any connect Essentials license, so unfortunately a clientless VPN is not an option. Is there some other access list I can interpose that will limit things the way I want?

Cisco WAN :: After Reset Could Not Use Dialer Command On 1812j

Jan 6, 2011

I am having an issue with Cisco 1812j Router.

I have 2 1812j router. One router I accidentally lost the password so I reset the password as following link. [URL]

After that I could not submit "dialer" command. Like this.

c1812j-01(config)#int bri0c1812j-01(config-if)#d?dampening  default  delay             descriptiondot1q      dot1x    down-when-looped  dxi
c1812j-01(config-if)#

There is no choice to use "dialer" command.

The other Router is as below which looks ok.

c1812j-02(config)#int bri0c1812j-02(config-if)#d?dampening         default       delay  descriptiondialer            dialer-group  dot1q  dot1xdown-when-looped  dxi

I guess I did something wrong to reset the unit.

Reason being that I would like to prevent dropouts of interent streaming radio when Internal LAN traffic is high. If so, what's an easy way to implement on 1921?

Now I am tring to setup Cisco 1812j with ISDN Line.

Here is what I connect the device. (I am in Japan)

ISDN Line (NTT east) >> DSU(NTT east INS Mate V30Slim with S/T port) >> Cisco 1812j(S/T)

On DSU setting I enable DSU and Disable Terminator.

First of I would like to test outbound call. Here is the config.

interface BRI0 ip address 192.168.92.2 255.255.255.0 encapsulation ppp dialer map ip 192.168.92.1 name Router1 broadcast 080********(Cell Phone Number) dialer-group 1 isdn switch-type ntt isdn point-to-point-setup ppp authentication chap ppp chap password 0 CISCO ip route 10.92.0.128 255.255.255.248 BRI0 192.168.92.1

Then I test by ping with #debug dialer. #ping 10.92.0.129

And I could not receive a call by my cell phone landline either.

However I am also thinking of adding AIP only as I can do the function of content filtering with proxy server. Relating this issue I would like to ask -

1. What would be the benefit of adding CSC ?

2. Do I have to pay the license cost every year for both of these SSM? What would be the cost ?

3. Upto how many SSM can I add into ASA 55020 ?

Cisco LAN :: 6509 / 2950 - Root Port / Cost

Dec 31, 2011

On a production 6509, I am seeing this:

RTR-01#sh spanning-tree int gi2/3 rootVLAN0001         0VLAN0010         0VLAN0011         0VLAN0012         0VLAN0013         0VLAN0014         0VLAN0015 [ code]....

Now I thought the command  "sh spanning-tree int gi2/3 root" showed cost to the root bridge.  So with everything being zero, its implied this the root, which it is but not for vlan 111 and actually all 1XX Vlans have a different root.  Why does vlan111 show its root as out int gi 2/3 but the root cost shows zero?

Issue is we have a issue where a 2950 is acting as root bridge for our wireless vlans, wrong....it should be the 6509, but before I change it over, was wondering about the root port/cost question.

In accordance with Axvoice's live support instructions, I have plugged the main phone jack of my house into that adapter. I am getting crystal clear voice quality in one phone set. That obviously indicates, there is no problem with the service. However, on two phone sets, voice is not clear and I am having noise and sudden call breaks. I have checked all the ports but could not find anything. I am jobless right now.

Wireless connections are delivered as a private L3 Ethernet link but cooper as private L2 Ethernet trunk link. In both offices I have Cisco 3750 L3 switches. I would like to use both link (equal-cost paths) in load balanced configuration but not sure how. Both switches running EIGRP. Asymmetric routing is not an option. Per-destination load-balancing or something else?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 VSS Architecture With Two Equal Cost Paths To A Destination?

Apr 29, 2012

I have a query on how the 6500s running in VSS mode would route the traffic over an OSPF environment where it has leant about two equal cost paths, but one via the 2nd chassis.Proposed setup - 2 6509s running in VSS. Switch-1 in VSS has a layer 3 connection (via a LES circuit) to one of a pair of Nexus 7Ks at another office. Switch-2 in the VSS has another layer 3 connection (via LES by another provider) to the other N7K at the other office. The L3 connections would use /30 ranges and allow each Nexus to form an ospf neighbour relationship with the VSS. We want to keep both offices environments separate so although we do have L2 circuits we're using these to provide L3 connectivity between sites & exchange routing info via them using ospf.

Each Nexus will advertise all the directly connected networks it knows about to the 6509s running in VSS. Thus I couldn't figure out if for example we have users/servers behind our VSS 6509s, these would need to go via their default gateway to get to a network located off the LAN, the default gw ip in VSS setup exisits on the control plane on switch-1 (in normal operation). Then to get to a network that is located off the Nexuses at the other site it would have 2 equal cost paths to it, however one of these paths would be via the VSL link and off the switch-2 chassis. I wasn't therefore sure if we'd actually ever see any transmit traffic via the 2nd L3 connection because I have a funny feeling that I've read the VSS always choses the local chassis egress rather than going via the VSL to use another port...

All of the above is theorectical at the moment as currently both circuits are connected to a single Nexus/6509 chassis however for improved resilence I want to move one of the circuits to be physically attached to the other Nexus & 6509 chasis at each site but I wasn't then sure how the traffic flows would be affected.

Cisco VPN :: Tunnel Gets Idle For Arbitrary Amount Of Time Rv110w

Oct 15, 2012

I have set up 2 RV110w firewall/vpn/routers at remote locations and an ipsec tunnel between them.  Once the tunnel gets established everything works fine until it has been idle for some arbitrary amount of time. (Maybe a half hour or less.) at which point we lose server access and can no longer ping across the tunnel. To fix this I have had to dissconnect and reopen the tunnel again,  I even went so far as to install an autopinger on the remote end to keep traffic on the tunnel which seems to work but is not going to be a viable long term solution.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1841 Large Amount Of Ip Exclusions For Servers

Jan 12, 2012

I have an 1841 and started to run into an issue which can be resolved but looking to see what you guys prefer to do in this situation.  We allow users to connect the laptop via ethernet and wireless to our network at the same time as well as an iPad or any other wireless technology.  With that said, for the most part each user has two IP's at any given point.  The issue comes in is that I have a large amount of IP exclusions for servers, printers, switches, etc on the exclude list.  I am starting to see that the 255 address are not enough to make a long story short.  I am also using the 1841 to handle another range for the voice network, which has no isues. What is the best way to fix this issue?  Can I run a virtual VLAN off that 1841 for everyone to use and then have the servers, switches, printers, etc on another one? I want to assume no, as both interfaces are used on the back of the 1841 for the two VLANS running now.  Or is the only way to handle this with this device to say that as a policy you can only connect assigned company hardware to the network?
