We are in a process to replace our old end of life switches( mostly Cisco 2950's) with some new offerings from cisco. Attached is our current network diagram. Anny merit of using Cisco Nexus switches in this design and also what will be the benifit in doing so. Again I am asking about the specific benefits which I will get in my Network not general benifits of nexus.

But there have been Four different IOS IMAGE releases before the latest one of 2008. My question is, DO I HAVE TO UPGRADE THE PREVIOUS FOUR RELEASES BEFORE THE NEW ONE OR WILL UPGRADING DIRECTLY TO THE 2008 NEW IMAGE Suffice?

I need to upgrade my core switches at one of our locations (two 7009s with dual sups) from 6.0.1 to 6.1.2. After looking through the release notes it appears that this will be a disruptive upgrade?how long should I expect for the disruption? Are we talking a 7009 boot cycle (10 - 15 minutes) or something longer?How many disruptions can I expect? I suspect 1 per chassis during the failover to the standby but I'd like to validate.Is there any compelling reason to upgrade the EPDL? From what I can see, again from the release notes, this is only necessary with F2 cards if I were to upgrade to Sup2s . I'm in a healthcare environment and this upgrade will be affecting one of our major campuses so the more info I can get to the managers the more accepting they will be for the disruptions.

We upgraded

but 20% increased speed of the fans. What could be problem?

[code] I have been looking over the release notes for each product trying to draw some conclusion on which titles support or dont support certain products.
When you would use each and if there are any gotchas or limits to watch out for? It looks like Prime is a paid for product but will any of the free solutions (CNA, CCP, CCA) work with all enterprise level products (2950, 2960, 3560, 3750, 4948, 4900 4500 switches and 1800, 1900, 2800, 2900, 3800, 3900 routers) or do you have to use Prime to get a product that will mange these devices?
I've connected a dslmodem/router to a fast ethernet port(fa0/1) on a 2620 router.There is a 2950 switch connected to the other port (fa0/0).I can ping the Internet via the router but and the switch but not from a host connected to the switch.I can't reach the dslmodem from the host pc.I've configured nat(overload) on the router.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to set an uplink port with the interface command "port network" so that it would not learn all the mac addresses that are being flooded down to the switch. It does not seem to be there on the 2950's or 35XX switches.
Where did it go and what is replacing it? Interface is a Trunk port as well.

I have two WS-C2950G-24-EI switches each of which were running software version 12.1(22)EA2-C2950-I6Q4L2-M. Both swtiches were viewable from Network Assistant version 5.6(3) and part of a community. I then updated the software on one of the switches to 12.1(22)EA14, and now Network Assistant will not add the new updated device to the community and gives an error of "WS-C2950G-24-EI is not supported as community member". Is the latest version (12.1(22)EA14) not supported by Network Assistant? The release notes indicate the Minimum Software Release is 12.1(22)EA4.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a 24 port Catalyst 2950 to expand my home network and learn a bit more about networking. Having just upgraded the IOS software 'm now trying to get this to work as required on my network but I'm having a few issues.
My intentions are to plug my cable router/modem wan connection which is set up as the dhcp server to fa 0/1, then use fa 0/2 - 24 for the rest of my wired network. So essentially all on the same subnet interfacing with the router 192.168.0.1.
So far I have set up all of the security on the switch, and have all switch ports assigned to vlan1 with no IPs. My laptop connected to fa0/2 however is not assigned an ip address. Looking at a few posts I ahve rightly or wrongly played about with dhcp snooping.

Our network feels slow and trying to find the best way to investigate this properly. We have Cisco chassis 4500 with mix of 3560/2950 Edge switches 1GB backbones and WLC/WCS in place. The network is broken into multiple V LANS and IOS on our switches haven't been updated in 3-4 years.
On a wireless laptop (G) with get throughput of 1-2MB/s transfer speed with usually 10 clients per AP and LAN we get anywhere between 7-15 MB/s transfer. Using wire shark on a wireless laptop we see a lot broadcast traffic from other clients and the same for LAN. What is the best way to troubleshoot performance issues on the network and where do I start?
I have a lab setup to take my CCNA and CCNP and I'm having issues trying to get WAN connectivity back to a switch at the end of my network. My lab environment consists of 1 - 2950 switch, 1 - 2620 and 1 - 2621XM. I have 1 Ethernet connection from each router to the switch and 1 serial connection from the 2620 to the 2621XM. I have the serial interfaces in a shutdown state right now so there is no loop since I do not have Spanning tree setup on the ports on the switch yet.
Right now using the fast ethernet ports on the routers and I have no issues its when I shut down those Ethernet ports and try using the serial interfaces when I start having issues. So my network layout is Ethernet from switch port f0/4 to port f0/0 on 2620 and serial from s0/1 on the 2620 to s0/2 on the 2621XM. My 2621XM f0/1 is whats connected to the WAN and I have no issues getting to the WAN from my 2621Xm or my 2620 but when I try pinging any website or even my WAN default gateway from my switch I get nothing!
Ive also noticed that when I do a IP NAT translation (after accessing the WAN from my 2620) on my 2621XM the source IP is of my serial connection not the ip of my 2620 router? I have my default gateway on the 2620 as the the IP of my serial interface on the 2621XM and vice versa because my LAN network is 172.16.1.0 and my WAN is 172.16.9.0. I have a /31 setup between my serial connections 172.16.11.0 (s0/1) is on the 2620 and 172.16.11.1(s0/2) is on the 2621XM. I used the SDM (ver 2.5) to setup NAT to have f0/1 with Nat outside and s0/2 as Nat inside. Encapsulation is HDLC between the serial links. Ive attached the running configs of the switch and routers.
We are facing issue of continous packet discards On nexus4001L link (int po2) to Nexus5020 switch. Nexus4001L is installed in IBM blade center server and we have FCOE enabled in this setup. [code]

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs a Senior Network Engineer I have entered into a bit of a debate with our Architect about the use of the mgmt0 interfaces on the nexus 7010 switch (dual-sups, M2 and F2 linecards).I would like to know opinion of the Cisco support network.
I believe the mgmt0 interface should left alone for control plane traffic only and Out Of Band management access (ie ssh). At the moment I have made a subnet for all VDCs with the mgmt0 (vrf management) sitting in a common subnet. The physical mgmt0 interfaces from both SUPs are connected a management hand off switch. The mgmt0s also serves as our control plane for VPCs. The VPC peer-link however is using main interfaces of the line-cards.
The opinions;
- The Architect thinks we should use all the mgmt0 interfaces for snmp, ntp, tacacs netflow-analysis and switch management.
- However, I think I should use a traditional Loopback to perform these functions within the linecards. The mgmt0 should only be used if traditional restricted switch access has failed.
My Basis;
the Loopback never goes down, uses multiple paths (the OOB hand off switch could fail closing switch management access completely). The mgmt0 should be used as a last resort of management access to CMP.
I am just wondering on how mismatched MTU sizes are handled in Layer-2 networks and also inside a particular switches internal architecture.Layer 2 devices do not do fragmentation in the even of MTU mismatch. is this because Layer 2 devices do not re-write header information (like inserting destination IP and next hop MAC into the newly created frame.) i believe this is what they call per-hop behaviour? if this not the reason, then...? assuming this is the reason, let me proceed to my next question. When we set MTU on an interface , there is no mention of direction (ingress or egress), so i take this as means in both directions. so if a jumbo frame comes in on an interface which is set to recieve jumbo frames and forwarding decision is made and the frame is scheduled to egress via an interface whose MTU is not set for Jumbo frames, will the switch drope the frame at the egress buffer? if not, this implies MTU is an ingress property(only for incoming packets). But, again if it drops the packet, then MTU shoud have been system wide or global configuration as opposed to interface level configuration (just like nexus 5000).
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy nexus 7 and my friends nexus phone are both running jellybean 4.1.1 and are unable to connect to our workplace's belkin wireless router. My nexus 7 says "authenticating" then says "network saved" then switches back to "authenticating". My friend's phone just gets stuck on "network saved". My iPhone and most other devices, including a different android phone, are in fact able to connect with no problems. I have tried resetting the router, but I am afraid that is all I will be able to do with regards to the router.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy customer has FreeRadius, and I'm trying to get the server to assign a network admin role to a 5K running 5.0.3 code.This is based on the example given in this document: url...The server authenticates the user name, but will only put the user into the network operator role. This is confirmed by checking the output of show user-account and debug security user-db.The Radius test using the same credentials passes the authentication test. I'm sure the problem is that the N5K dosent understand the VSA format of the attribute, and that this is a simple syntax problem.
