Cisco WAN :: 2960S Post Failures If Break Into ROM?

May 8, 2011

I have over 20 units doing the same thing and it seems to be a software isssue but i dont see any bugs or posts on it.  This is only on 2960S switches and not 2960 or 2960G units.

If i use the password reset feature to break the units into rom and then type "boot" instead of power cycling the unit, they will fail MBIST post tests.  If the unit is power cycled or left to boot normally on its own, there is no issues and all post tests pass.  I know MBIST is Memory Built In Self Test and was thinking maybe breaking the unit into rom disrupts those memory tests for some reason.  I tried the following software and got the same results with all of the images:

122-55.SE2
122-55.SE
122-53.SE2
122-53.SE1

Logs attached are from the same switch, one with password reset procedure used and while left to boot on its own.

However i cannot break into teh IOS in Hyperterminal using Ctrl-Break either as it boots or after teh IOS image has loaded (after it shows Decompressed image {ok} etc). I have tried several break key combinations such as ctrl+F6+break and they dont work either. On  boot the unit does show Password recovery Functionality is disabled. IOS image is 12.4(13r)T.

Cisco WAN :: 3750G QoS And Voice Call Break Ups

Mar 6, 2011

We have installed a SRST in one of our remote offices. They have ISDN Primary, and we have a 6mb MPLS link to our main HQ with 400k of QoS on the line. During the day, both Internal calls over the MPLS and external calls over the ISDN break up, but it doesnt happen all the time, i.e in a day the morning will be ok, then the users experience the break ups in the afternoon, then its everything is ok again.

The only factor that the calls share is the Lan infrastructure i.e the 3750G switches (7) of them which are stacked.We did have MAC flapping errors, and our telecoms provider suggested that it maybe these causing the issues, however we have got rid of all MAC flap errors, and are still receiving voice break ups.

Because the Lan switches are the only "item" both calls share, I am wondering now if the setup of the switches is correct. [code]

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 Post And Pre 8.3 NAT And ACLs

Aug 30, 2012

In the near future I plan on updating all of my firewalls to 8.4, currently we're on a mix of 8.0 and 8.2. I've heard that if your equipment is on 8.2 there's an auto-conversion feature when upgrading to 8.3. However, I do not want to rely on that and am trying my hand at re-writing the NAT and ACLs myself. Attached is my pre 8.3 ASA 5510 config (santized) and a document that shows the particular sections pre 8.3 and what I think they should be after the upgrade.

Broadband :: PC Can't Connect To Internet Post-Lightening

Aug 8, 2012

A lightening strike hit us recently (last week) and fried electronics in the house. The next morning we didn't have internet on either our PC or Apple laptop. The modem wasn't doing its blinky green light dance. I used a multi-meter; the power supply was dead. I replaced it. It did its blinky dance. I turned everything on in order; turn everything off, turn the modem on and wait, turn the router on and wait, and turn on the PC and laptop. The good news was, the laptop got the internet, albeit much more slowly and intermittently than it used to. The PC got nothing. I've fumbled around with this for a week and can't fix it. I'm not sure if what's wrong is the router, modem, or something specific to the PC. Time Warner reported the internet is getting to my location (I called). They said the router was the problem and, consequently, not their problem. I tried connecting the laptop to the modem directly, leaving the router and PC unconnected. This works (I get the internet on the laptop, still). I tried connecting the PC to the modem and leaving the laptop and router unconnected. This *doesn't* work (I get no internet on the PC). Device manager shows that my ethernet card works. I tried sending a test packet to the modem. This also worked. Here's my ipconfig /all Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

Authenticate Through Captive Portal Using HTTP GET / POST?

Mar 16, 2012

I work at a public library, and our wireless network is controlled with a captive portal. I am using the app Tasker on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Android 4.0.3) to do things like automatically silence the phone when it connects to the wireless network. What I'm hoping to do is get it to also automatically authenticate with the captive portal. I know this is possible on a PC, but I'm not sure how to implement it with my phone. Takser allows for using HTTP GET of HTTP POST. With GET I have fields for "Server:Port", "Path", "Attributes", "Timeout", "Mime Type", and "Output File". For POST I have "Server:Port", "Path", "Data", "Timeout", "Content Type", and "Output File". Here is documentation about these two methods:

Quote:HTTP Get Send an HTTP GET request to a webserver.The response code is stored in %HTTPR. A response code of -1 indicates a problem making the request. Any returned data is stored in the variable %HTTPD if the content type is text-based (max 4K).

Example: running a script

Server:Port: [URL] [no port specified, use port 80]
Path: cgi-bin/palpable.pl
Attributes: [must be separated by newlines, no spaces please]
colour=pink
scent=rosy

I can "solve" the problem by quickly repairing the network connection, but that's tedious. It happens only on my laptop and not on my housemate's desktop (wired connection) though he did say that it happens to him on his laptop as well. In looking around I thought the problem might be because i'm using Chrome, but it happens on Firefox and Opera as well.

We are being told that the replacement unit is believed to be part of a batch of faulty fan assemblies and that it was a known Cisco issue.

Cisco VPN :: ASA5510 To 2951 - Phase 2 Failures With 10.x Subnets

Apr 25, 2013

I have a site to site ipsec tunnel setup between an ASA5510 and a 2951 Router. The ASA 5510 is on a 10.x subnet with a few vlans behind it. There are also 7 other ASA5505 that connect to this box with ipsec.

The 2951 is on a 10.x subnet with multiple vlans behind it (10.x and 192.x subnets).

When I had ACL to allow traffic from 10.20.0.0 (ASA) to 192.168.111.0 (2951 - voice vlan) the connection comes online and is stable.

The minute I add any of the following, the connection drops off with Phase 2 errors: 10.20.0.0 to 10.1.200.0 10.20.1.0 to 10.1.1.0

I can add a second 10.20.0.0 to 192.168.10.0 with no problem at all. The issue only seems to occur when attempting to add traffic from 10 to 10 on the tunnel.

Cisco VPN :: 3000 Concentrator Intermittent Login Failures

May 11, 2011

I manage a VPN 300 concentrator which has been happily working for several years without any problems. All users are part of the same group and authenticate to an RSA server. We recently moved from RSA authentication manager 6.1 to RSA authentication manager 7.1. Everthing continued working fine for several weeks, then at the beginning of this week we started getting users intermittently failing to connect to the VPN. I'm not sure if this problem relates to our new RSA server, but we have other network devices which authenticate to it with no problem so I guess the problem is with the VPN concentrator itself.

When users fail they just get a generic "Reason 427 connection terminated by peer" error message. The live event log shows "group = vpn, status = Not-in-service" when their connection fails. Other times they connect normally and no error messages are displayed. There seems to be no real pattern, sometimes your connection fails but if you keep trying you will eventually get in [however it can take many attempts over an hour or two before you succeed, or you may get in straight away with no problem].

I dont believe its a network problem, as I have run continuous pings to the concentrator and the RSA server whilst users are experiencing these problems and there are no drops.

The RSA servers authentication monitor always shows that the user has successfully authenticated, whether the users connection actually succeeds or not. I am tempted to just reboot the concentrator, but we have site-to-site VPN tunnels connected off it and I'm a little concerned that if it is faulty it may not come back up at all.

LAB-HUB-RTR#show buffers
Buffer elements:
607 in free list (500 max allowed)
9071 hits, 0 misses, 618 created

Public buffer pools:

Small buffers, 104 bytes (total 71, permanent 50, peak 71 @ 00:11:33):
68 in free list (20 min, 150 max allowed)
7083 hits, 74 misses, 0 trims, 21 created
55 failures (0 no memory)

I have tried increasing the small/medium buffers initial size and permanent size, however there is no change.  The buffer failures for small and medium buffers are always around this many every boot.I have also changed the IOS versions between 12.4.24(T4) to 15.1 with no luck in stopping the failures.
