I'm about to install a new E1 onto my 3845 as backup line for my data network. We usually use VWIC2 cards since our infrastructure covers EU and US sites. But this time, I ran out of stock and so did my supplier. I have a VWIC-1MFT-G703 card here but not sure if it would work. What is the difference compared to the regular VWIC-1MFT-E1 ?
FYI, I run 12.4 T train release on my 3845s.
Is there any risk to install an HWIC-2FE card into a production 3845 router while it is in a powered up state? Is it recommended to power it down first, then install it?

I wonder if the router will switch back to the primary ISP if the primary line comes up again?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem in configuring two pair of backup interface on my customer's router (3845). It's ok when I configure just one of them. If I configure both pairs of interfaces into backup interface, one of them will be in disabled mode, as shown below :

Site A, site B, site C, site D is connected using leased line each other. We are using Cisco 1800, 2800 and 2900. Each site also have Internet connection using ADSL connected to firewall, we are using pix 501 and ASA 5510.My question is, can i use the existing ADSL line to be use as a backup line if the leased line is down on any of the site??
And i want it to trigger itself, once the leased line is down, the firewall UP the backup line? something like that..
when using SNMP on our cisco 3845 the traffic logs are set to refresh every 1 second but the data seems to come in 5 sec burst.so does not some a real time status of the interface throughput.

Despite no apparent problems with the ADSL line the ISDN is repeatedly dialling the internet every 2-3 mins during office hours and considerable expense to the customer.

AS I understand the terminology a I won't have enough room to do image backups (these back up all info incl OS ??) as on pc is usingb 677 gb and the other 400 gb ---- and anyway I can re-install windows if anything goes wrong...
SO---am I able to do this-
1. connect the ext- HDD to PC running win 7 64 bit....create a folder called "win 7 64 bit" and then drag and drop filesand folders into that folder(or use windows backup..which i am unfamilar with)
2. then connect to PC running Vista 64 bit ..create a f�lder called "Vista 64 bit" and do as above....
3. Do the same for the laptop running win 7 32 bit
Am I right in assumming that because it's just data I can put info from different OS on to it without and conflicts when connecting it to different Pc's?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 3845 edge router connected to the Internet via four T1s and a HWIC-4T1/E1 card. We are adding two more T1s to the mix, and I have a VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 card. Here are my questions:
1. Is it correct to state that the VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 can support data in addition to voice?
2. I can use the HWIC and VWIC cards together to utilize the 6 T1s together?
3. Do I just add the card, configure the new slot, and add it to the same channel group?

We have backup data center where I am now planning to provide backup internet service ( in the case where there is internet down or power outage at main server room) . I have a 1.5 TB USB hard drive attached to me E4200. Configuring it so that multiple computers have access and can read and write their files is quite simple. I've followed the instructions and had no difficulty.
My problem is this, after about a week's time has passed any file that has been on the hard drive for more than a week become undeletable. Any attempt to modify it or remove it pops up a message saying I need permission from a specific user (always the user that I am currently logged in as!) to perform the operation on the file.
When this starts to happen, the device is, otherwise, perfectly functional. I will still be able to create new files and delete any newly created files from the drive without difficulty even when those files are in the same directory as the files that the device will no longer let me edit. Examination of the file properties dialog shows that the files that the device refuses to allow me to delete are identical in every way to any new file that I create. Yet newly created files are removable but these older files ... are not.
I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that the HDD mounting feature of the device just doesn't actually work as advertised.
FWIW: all my computers are using Windows 7 with the latest build. I do access the device from these computers wirelessly.
Is there any physical or technical diferrences between PWR-3845 AC/2 and PWR-3845 AC? We are trying to order replacement parts and wondering if PWR-3845 AC is for one power supply and AC/2 means you get two with one order?

Sometime later i noticed that the LAN card (Atheros A8151 PCI-E Ethernet Controller) was not working i went into the adapter settings in network control in the control panel and there was no adapter. i checked the device manager and there was no option called NETWORK ADAPTERS.

Since she only has a laptop and moves around the apartment, I would like to use the wireless on the printer. Unfortunately, the internet for the building is just through wireless APs. I have the printer installed on the network, but my concern is that anyone can just search for network printers and install it. While printing on it won't be useful for them, it could be a good way to waste her paper/toner. Is there a way to prevent users from installing it without being able to change the router settings? I did not see any option in the web configuration.

I was migrated the data network from this NOC firewall to the other temporary firewall just at the moment. And the voice network i migrated it from where it orginal at NOC firewall to a VOIP system which actually having a connection with my temporary firewall(This temporary FW only to take the traffic of data network). After the migration of data network from old firewall to temporary firewall and also the migration of voice network from old firewall to PABX system. The subnet for data network remain the same as 192.168.2.0/24, but the subnet of voice network i edit from 172.16.2.0/24 to 192.168. 3.0/24.Now when i want to use one Cisco router 2600 to replace this temporary firewall then facing problem at the voice network....The data network after migrated from temporary firewall to new 2600 is ok, users can browsing. But when i trying to at the same time when the data network been migrated , it will affect the voice network which still located at PABX. ..user cannot make call...I was thinking reason because this voice network which currently in 192.168.3.0/24 is tight to somewhere on the 192.168.x.x at the old firewall internetwork. So, when i migrated the data network over to new router, it will also cause the failure of voice even thought after i migrated the voice system to new router.So when i do the disaster recovery back to the temporary firewall for both data and voice. The voice is resuming to normal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a major problem regarding implementing IP Multicast in an ADSL network. The diagram of our network is attached. In every Access Network , there is only IP DSLAMs which are connected via Metro ethernet links ( L2 links) to the main site. So there is no Router or Layer 3 Link to the main site. In the main site there is an Aggregator router which is an PPPOE server which terminates subscriber's PPPOE sessions. All the Access networks and subscribers are just connected to one Aggregator and they use that one as PPPOE server. It is an Cisco 3845 Router. Then the Aggregator is connected to Core network and behind the Core network is an Streaming server which streams in Multicast. IP Multicast Routing is configured in Spars-Dense mode in all routers in Core network and also the Aggregator and it is working properly. So the sucscribers are able to join the multicast stream and the very last router in the path toward the subscribers( which is the Aggregator) does the Multicast replications.
There are two problems we faced:
1- Since all the subscribers from different Access Network use the same Aggregator in the central site as PPPOE Server, all the connection are terminated on that router. The goal is to use the uplink bandwidth of the Access networks to the central site more efficiently and if e.g 20 subscribers watches the same channel, it just consumes as the amount of one channel due to doing IP Multicast.Now the problem is that when for example 2 subscribers of the same Access Network (in the same POP site) connect to the same stream, the amount of bandwidth used between the central site and the Access network is double. It happens because the aggregator activates IGMP on every virtual-access lines for every PPPOE subscribers who wants to joint the stream. So it can not recognized these two subscribers are from the same Access network. Therefore, the result is that although it is doing Multicast, it does not save the bandwidth because it activates IGMP group on every subscriber's virtual access line for his PPPOE connection. So is there any solution to this problem? Something came to my mind that we need to implement a separate aggregator for every Access network which means that we have to place a router for every access site and it will be expensive for us. But I think in that case every local aggregator can do IP Multicat routing and it saves the bandwidth definitely. Any better solution that may solve our problem using the same topology?
2- Another problem is that when the subscriber's CPE are configured in bridge mode and subscribers set-up a PPPOE connection on their PCs, they are able to join the multicast stream properly. But when they put their CPE in router mode and have their ADSL modems as PPPOE client, they are not able to join the Multicast stream. i.e the ADSL modem is doing NAT and routing and it connects to PPPOE server using username/password credentials. I also tried a feature in ADSL modems called "IGMP support" when I wanted to create the WAN settings. But it did not work. I am not sure but I think that we need "IGMP Proxy" feature on subscriber's CPE.
I want to setup a DC++ HUB for sharing data within the university local network. We have addresses of the form 172.31.*.*. These addressed are accessible within the university bu non routable outside on the internet. My plan is to setup a local HUB for DC++ for sharing data within the university intranet. So even if internet is unavailable data can be exchanged through LAN. This HUB must not be accessable outsied the university network.how should I do this all..implementing network sharing other than DC++. My basic idea is that everybody can share their data and the data is searchable from one common interface( Web interface is better option, if possible). And data featching should prefferably be from many hosts, using multiple connections so that speed can be improved..

In accordance with Axvoice's live support instructions, I have plugged the main phone jack of my house into that adapter. I am getting crystal clear voice quality in one phone set. That obviously indicates, there is no problem with the service. However, on two phone sets, voice is not clear and I am having noise and sudden call breaks. I have checked all the ports but could not find anything. I am jobless right now.

I have got 2 PC's (one ground floor, one up staris), printer, TV and router.Now, my router has got only 4 sockets for RJ45 (no usb connection available). The reason is i want to know the difference between the leased line and the DSL line. The whole thing behind the confusion is, We plan to have a high speed internet connection in our office. We will don't have a branch office or some thing like that. I preffered to have high speed internet in our office. I found in some website that Lease line will have high speed connectivity(Upto 10Gbps). Can i use the lease line or DSL is enough for our office. Our office contains of 82 user who will use internet.

What I want to do is to transmit some data(whatever) from C to S but this data to go through I. So C ---> S will become C ----> I ----> S. I read something to create a tunnel(ip add tunnel) between C and I and add a route between them ? I tried different examples but did not work at all.
