Netgear WNR2000v2 / Using External HD For Backup On Network?

Aug 13, 2011

Two desktop computers with windows 7 home premium.Router: Netgear WNR2000v2 (which is NOT IPv6 compliant).External HD: 2TB Fantom.I have the external HD connected to one of the desktops via USB. I'd like to use it to back up the second computer to this HD.How do I get the second computer to recognize this as a backup target?Incidentally I've had problems getting HomeGroup setup since IPv6 is required for HomeGroup. I assume the problems are because the router isn't IPv6 compliant. I've tried the Microsoft Fixit 50410 (Use IPv4 instead of IPv6 in prefix policies. I've also reverted using Microsoft Fixit 50440 (Enable IPv6).

Home Network :: Netgear WNR2000v2 Settings?

Jun 21, 2011

I am using the WNR200v2 for wireless and with a powerline adapter where should I set my speeds, 54Mbps, 145Mpbs or 300Mbps? Are there any other settings I should changeI have a road runner cable modem with 10Mbps download. I am streaming wireless to a PS3 slim 160gb, WDTV LIVE HD media streamer and a Directv HR24-500 DVR. I am using a powerline adapter kit to stream to a Boxee Box another media streamer. Most of my streaming is from the internet but, I occasionally will download something and then stream it from my HDD to one of my media streamers. My wireless signal only needs to travel about 30 ft. and the same for the powerline adapter

Netgear WNR2000v2 - All Of The Sudden Certain Devices Cannot Connect?

Mar 11, 2013

Router: Netgear WNR2000v2

For a long time now, my router has been running fine with my devices. Now all of the sudden, some devices(my xbox, 3ds, and phone) cannot connect to the internet despite them picking up the signal. The weird thing is, the computers in my house and my PS3 can connect. I also don't think it's my security settings(TKIP and AES hybrid) since they all functioned fine with that before this problem.

I tried unsecuring my network as a test, but it seems that only my phone can connect while my 3ds cannot. I haven't tested this with the 360 however. I also tried resetting my router to factory defaults three times.

Netgear WNR2000v2 Disconnects / Unresponsive Every 25 Minutes?

Jul 5, 2011

Every 25 minutes, sometimes sooner, sometimes later but usually on the dot I get limited access and the router interface becomes inaccessible for about 1-3 minutes. My problem is my room mate has left for the week and the router is locked in there. I am unable to connect hardwired or power cycle the router. I have the password for the connect and I just got the PW for the router interface. I also have remote capabilities. I have been trying many things to stop it from being so slow and unstable but basically even though my signal reception is 4-5 bars I am only averaging 11mbps speed. I am using a b/g alfa 1w adapter but this shouldn't be the cause of the slower speeds. I can only achieve 1-3mbps down on speedtest.net whereas before I was getting 6-12mbps down.

-UPnP Off.
-NAT Firewall Open.
-300mbps Max
-Channel 1 no other channels within 5 channels near it.
-WPA2-PSK [AES]
-Default MAC Address
-Automatic Configuring of all IP Addresses
-MTU 1500
-WMM On.

Being limited by lack of power cycle and hardwired connect makes it a little harder. I know it's fixable without that though. Also there is no point of a hardwired connect unless I am upgrading the firmware (it already has the newest firmware by default) because I know it should work fine like that. I have tested connecting to other networks and I do not d/c on them. My own research has shown that setting a static IP resolves the issue. I am unfamiliar with exactly how to set this up for the router and the client and if it involves dealing with the ISP (Comcast)

Linksys Wireless Router :: Connecting WRT610n And Netgear WNR2000v2?

Aug 4, 2011

I am having trouble getting the wrt610n to connect to the wnr2000v2 that can be set a  wireless repeater.  I had a 160n hooked up and it was working fine, but am unable to get the 610n going on it.  setting this type of networking up , but have a general idea of how it works.  I have the 610n running and is broadcasting a signal, but the wnr 2000 will not connect to it wirelssly and repeat it.  The setup in the netgear is pretty basic , but I am new to the linksys 610n and the interface that's why I believe it has to do with the 610n.

Backup To External Drive Not Performing?

Mar 11, 2011

I am not sure whether this is the right category to which I should submit my question, but I couldn't find a section for "other software support" or anything like that.I am running Windows SBS 2003 at one of my clients and we are using Syncback as the backup software to backup important files and folders that gets written to the server on a daily basis. Now we are using two external drives for this purpose, alternating the two every second day, for improved security.However...I have set up the backup profiles exaclty with the same configurations and everything...everything is identical. But the backup to one of my drives does not want to perform giving the error : "the folder on the destination drive does not exist and can't be created"The folder does exist though, and what puzzles me is that running the backup manually or even copying files manually from the same server backup folders to the drive works perfectly, but when running the scheduled backup, it fails...and yes, the logon and authentication is set to "run as administrator" and the username and password is entered correctly.Like I said, the configs of the two drives are exactly the same, and the backup to the other drive works perfectly.I am using the Syncback free version, and support for the free version on the 2Brightsparks website is unavailable

Sharing :: Use 1 External Hdd To Backup Data From 2 Separate PC's?

Jan 20, 2011

I have got a 1TB external HDD...I want to use this to backup my data (dokuments , pics , video) that are on 2 desktops and one laptop---

AS I understand the terminology a I won't have enough room to do image backups (these back up all info incl OS ??) as on pc is usingb 677 gb and the other 400 gb ---- and anyway I can re-install windows if anything goes wrong...

SO---am I able to do this-

1. connect the ext- HDD to PC running win 7 64 bit....create a folder called "win 7 64 bit" and then drag and drop filesand folders into that folder(or use windows backup..which i am unfamilar with)

2. then connect to PC running Vista 64 bit ..create a flder called "Vista 64 bit" and do as above....

3. Do the same for the laptop running win 7 32 bit

Am I right in assumming that because it's just data I can put info from different OS on to it without and conflicts when connecting it to different Pc's?

Cisco WAN :: Dial Backup To ADSL Service Using 877 / External Analogue Modem

Jan 4, 2011

I'm trying to get a solution together for a dial backup to an ADSL service, using an Analogue modem. The kit list is as follows:

Cisco 877

Multitech MT5656ZDX External Analogue Modem or USR 5630D External Analogue Modem

Rolled patch cable RJ45 to DB25M adapter (pinout from a cisco guide)

So far I am unable to get the router/modem to dial out at all. I know the modems work, I have tested them from Windows.

I have attached a couple of outputs from "show line" and "show line 1" from the router and also what I think are the relevent lines of config although it will be too much config and probably jumbled by now as I've tried quite a few things to try and get this working.

I am more concerned with the config relating to the connection of the analogue modem than the routing element.

Home Network :: Backup And Printer Sharing?

Dec 30, 2011

I have decided to set up a simple network at my home. I have got 2 PC's (one ground floor, one up staris), printer, TV and router. Now, my router has got only 4 sockets for RJ45 (no usb connection available). My target is to have one storage hard drive of 2TB for sharing pictures, files and automatic backup from PC's. Make of my router is D-link DIR-615. I want to have PC's connected by RJ45 for quick file transfer and TV as well to load movies from external/network hard drive so 3 of 4 ports are already used.I want to have my printer online in network all the time, so any PC can print at any time without connecting USB cable. Also I do not want to plug my printer into PC downstaris and share it in the network because if PC will be switched off, PC upstaris won't be able to print. So I want all my devices have connected to the router. Printer does not support ethernet interface as well (only usb connection).I've got a choice to buy an External Hard Drive (USB) or Network Hard Drive. I have choosen these two:

[URL]

As I said, I got 2 devices to connect to my network, and there is also one port available. I know, we got many different hubs etc, but what about printer? It supports only USB 2.0.I have also found very basic NAS on ebay:

[URL]

I thought I could by external hard drive because it is cheaper than network, and connect it together with my printer to this NAS and then NAS to router. Will I loose file transfer speed?

Home Network :: Backup Internet Access Through Secondary Router?

Jan 30, 2013

1. ADSL Wi-Fi router provided by my ISP. This is the primary router for my network which is connected to the internet. Router IP: 192.168.1.1 (DHCP enabled) 2. TP-Link wireless router which is connected to the primary router through its LAN port (not WAN) with its DHCP turned off. So I'm using this router ONLY to extend the network to another area. This is a 3G enabled router. Router IP: 192.168.1.2There are two different wireless SSIDs but basically only ONE network (all the PCs connected through any of the two routers are on the samesubnet and have same IP range i.e. 192.168.1.x). I want to use the 3G internet connection through the secondary router when the ADSL connection is down. Whenever the ADSL connection is down, I would just connect the 3G-USB to the secondary router, all the computers on the network should connect to the internet while skipping their route through the primary router WITHOUT CHANGING ANY SETTINGS. Is it possible? Do I need to modify the routing tables? Or is it

External HDD To Wireless Network To USB Port On TV?

Basically, I need my external hard drive connected to my wireless network so I can have access to it from two computers BUT I want to be able to stream my videos/music via a USB 2.0 wire directly to my TV.The problem with this configuration is that the hard drive has one input/output USB 2.0 port. I am going to hook it up to a network enclosure which will solve the having the hard drive to wireless network...but how can I stream data via a USB cable to my TV?A friend of mine told me that I can have a USB connection from my desktop going to the TV - this will achieve the data going from my external hard drive via the network to my desktop and from my desktop to my TV via USBDoes this sound like I am on the right track? I am unsure as to whether I will need any software solutions to be able to have access to the data on the hard drive from my TV.

Can't Connect To External IP From Just One Computer On Network

Feb 7, 2013

From our Exchange server, I am completely unable to communicate with one of our partner's mail server. I cannot ping it by either the host name or IP address. Trace route times out at the final hop. The firewall is disabled, and antivirus (ESET) is temporarily disabled. I cannot access the IP through the web browser either, everything times out. However, every other computer on our network can connect fine. I haven't seen any other problems with any other IP addresses, it seems to be only this one that I can't connect to, and only from our Exchange server. All computers are going through the same gateway, using the same internet connection, and using the same DNS servers. The computer that I'm having the problem on is a static IP. All settings look correct, and match another server that I can access the IP from.I've checked the hosts file for anything, and it is in it's default state.

How would I go about having a 192.(...) machine speak to a 10.(...) box? My boss tells me that via a UDP call the 192.(...) machine can get the IP of a 10.(...) box. Isn't UDP dependant on a subnet mask to limit the # of queries, and in that case would it even be feasable? I was thinking instead of spoofing the 192.(...) IP to an unoccupied 10.(...) IP. Of course to do this would require knowing what IPs are unoccupied on the other network, and I cannot assume the would respond to pings.
