External HDD Access Over Network?

Mar 28, 2011

Is there any way that I can connect my External USB HDD to my wireless network so that any computer on my network can retrieve files on the HDD.

I previously had a Cable router, which had a USB port on the back so I was able to do this.

But as of next week I am moving back to BT, so i will need to change my router to an ADSL version.

External HDD To Wireless Network To USB Port On TV?

Jul 15, 2011

Basically, I need my external hard drive connected to my wireless network so I can have access to it from two computers BUT I want to be able to stream my videos/music via a USB 2.0 wire directly to my TV.The problem with this configuration is that the hard drive has one input/output USB 2.0 port. I am going to hook it up to a network enclosure which will solve the having the hard drive to wireless network...but how can I stream data via a USB cable to my TV?A friend of mine told me that I can have a USB connection from my desktop going to the TV - this will achieve the data going from my external hard drive via the network to my desktop and from my desktop to my TV via USBDoes this sound like I am on the right track? I am unsure as to whether I will need any software solutions to be able to have access to the data on the hard drive from my TV.

Can't Connect To External IP From Just One Computer On Network

Feb 7, 2013

From our Exchange server, I am completely unable to communicate with one of our partner's mail server. I cannot ping it by either the host name or IP address. Trace route times out at the final hop. The firewall is disabled, and antivirus (ESET) is temporarily disabled. I cannot access the IP through the web browser either, everything times out. However, every other computer on our network can connect fine. I haven't seen any other problems with any other IP addresses, it seems to be only this one that I can't connect to, and only from our Exchange server. All computers are going through the same gateway, using the same internet connection, and using the same DNS servers. The computer that I'm having the problem on is a static IP. All settings look correct, and match another server that I can access the IP from.I've checked the hosts file for anything, and it is in it's default state.

Scanning An External Network Through UDP / ARP Scan?

Jun 24, 2011

the setup is as follow: I have two separate network.192.168.90.xx and 10.10.xx.xx the two boxes being connected via an ethernet cable. How would I go about having a 192.(...) machine speak to a 10.(...) box? My boss tells me that via a UDP call the 192.(...) machine can get the IP of a 10.(...) box. Isn't UDP dependant on a subnet mask to limit the # of queries, and in that case would it even be feasable? I was thinking instead of spoofing the 192.(...) IP to an unoccupied 10.(...) IP. Of course to do this would require knowing what IPs are unoccupied on the other network, and I cannot assume the would respond to pings.

Netgear WNR2000v2 / Using External HD For Backup On Network?

Aug 13, 2011

Two desktop computers with windows 7 home premium.Router: Netgear WNR2000v2 (which is NOT IPv6 compliant).External HD: 2TB Fantom.I have the external HD connected to one of the desktops via USB. I'd like to use it to back up the second computer to this HD.How do I get the second computer to recognize this as a backup target?Incidentally I've had problems getting HomeGroup setup since IPv6 is required for HomeGroup. I assume the problems are because the router isn't IPv6 compliant. I've tried the Microsoft Fixit 50410 (Use IPv4 instead of IPv6 in prefix policies. I've also reverted using Microsoft Fixit 50440 (Enable IPv6).

Osx 10.5 How Do I Automatically Share External USB Drives Over Network

Jul 21, 2013

I used to have an old G5 tower running OS X 10.5 (Leopard) which I was using as a file server. In this tower I had a USB dock connected where I could plug in 2.5 inch drives from my archive and then access them over the network by connecting to the G5.

Last week I upgraded my "fileserver" and I am running OS X Mountain Lion Server on a regular Mac Pro tower. When I connect to my new fileserver via Finder I am only able to see the local hard drives but none of the external ones. I can add a share-point for the external drives but that is not very practical since I am always connecting different drives from the archive.

So what I would like to have is that when I plug in an external drive to my file server it shows up in the network shares without me having to create a share-point for every different drive I connect.

Cisco :: Connecting Back To Network Through External Interface?

Mar 4, 2013

I have a ASA 5505 configured with three VLANs: Inside, Outside, and DMZ.I am running an exchange server on the Inside network and have configured NAT to allow connections to it from outside. This works fine. I can also happily connect to it using it's internal address from the inside. In the DMZ I have setup a linksys router to work as a guest wifi network. I configured the ASA to block any traffic from the DMZ to the internal network. This has been working fine for the last few weeks.Wireless users cannot access any internal resoureces, but can browse the internet etc.. etc..

My problem is that I want users to be able to connect to the wireless with smartphones, tablets etc..., if they do so, they can access the internet, but not get their email. From my (limited) understanding, the problem is that the ip address I am trying to connect to is the same ip that I am transmitting from. Is there any way to send the packets to the outside network and then loop them back to the exchange server?

Connect USB External Hard Drive And USB Printer To Network?

Jan 25, 2011

I have a Seagate 1TB USB External Hard Drive that I want to share on my wireless home network, and I'm having difficulty finding a cheap, reliable solution. I would also, ideally, like to connect a USB printer for similar sharing.I have two XP PC's on the network, and will probably be getting a Windows 7 machine. The router is the generic one supplied by my ISP.

1. Connect both hard drive and printer to always-on PC that shares with Windows. This would work but I'm not keen on the 'always on'

2. Use a Pogoplug to connect the hard drive and printer to the router Again, a good solution and always-on, but a little pricey - ?60-100?

WGT624 - Windows XP - Tunneling External PC Into Local Network By Using Only Router

Edit/More Information: I've steup a DDNS. My Router supports Port-Forwarding. I'm currently using Remote Desktop. Both PC run Windows XP Professional.

Automatic Mirror / Backups To External Hard Drive On Wireless Network?

May 29, 2011

I have a simple wireless network in my home run through a Linksys WRT54G Router connected to a cable modem. I set up a Western Digital 1TB external hard drive as a network drive through use of a Seagate FreeAgent DockStar. (The HD connects to the DockStar by a USB cable, which in turn connects to the router by an Ethernet cable.)

The hard drive functions as a network drive and I've configured Windows 7 Home Premium on my laptop computer to recognize it at start-up so it can essentially be used read and written to like a local drive.

Is there a way to make Windows 7, either by built-in software or third party software, automatically backup certain files or directories when changes are detected?

For example, I have a folder on my internal HD where I organize the vast amount of photos that I take so that I can easily find them through the operating system instead of having to go through a photo manager. In my ideal situation, something would be monitoring to see if I have made changes in only that folder (either adding new folders, deleting photos, or modifying files) and simultaneously make the changes to the network hard drive. Effectively, I want something to mirror the changes on my local hard drive on the fly and update the network hard drive accordingly. I do this all manually at the moment and it sucks up a lot of time that could probably be done automatically.

Western Digital 500GB Share An External Hard Drive Over A Network?

Sep 27, 2012

I have a Western Digital 500GB external hard drive and I want to know how can I share this particular drive throughout my house?Currently, it's connected via USB on my Windows 7 Ultimate desktop computer. In the medium term, I will consider getting an wireless router that has a USB port on it - so that way, I won't need to have my Windows 7 desktop computer to be on all the time - just to share my external hard drive.I also plugged in this particular external hard drive on APC backup UPS - so that way, if the power goes out - I can safely shutdown my system - until the power goes back on.As for the wireless router, I currently have the Linksys E2500 dual-band wireless N router - to share my computers with a single internet connection via Cable TV. how do I share my external hard drive on my network. What are your other suggestions on the best way to share an external hard drive?

Cisco Firewall :: 6500 Separate Internal Server / HQ Network From 3 / 4 Different External Connections

May 21, 2012

I am using a 6500 with FWSM. I need to separate an internal server/HQ network from 3 or 4 different external connections. The external networks do not necessarily need to be isolated from each other.I have the option of using a 3 layer model: L2 Access layer to SVIs on the Distribution layer and then L3 to the 6500.L2 Access, connecting directly to the 6500s, with the SVIs on the FWSM.Is it better to have the FWSM outside the MSFC or Inside? Am i correct in thinking that "inside" vs "outside" is determined by whether the SVI's are configured on the FWSM or the MSFC? is there any performance impact from having the FWSM doing the routing instead of the MSFC.If the vlans are all configured on the FWSM, what is the 6500 doing, other than providing switch ports?

Cisco :: PIX 525 Firewall / Voice Network Not Working After Data Network Migrated

Feb 28, 2012

My company have a Cisco PIX 525 firewall which is cater for NOC internal data network and also voice network, the subnet for data network is 192.168.2.0/24 and the subnet for voice network is 172.16.2.0/24. someday this NOC firewall was faulty. I was migrated the data network from this NOC firewall to the other temporary firewall just at the moment. And the voice network i migrated it from where it orginal at NOC firewall to a VOIP system which actually having a connection with my temporary firewall(This temporary FW only to take the traffic of data network). After the migration of data network from old firewall to temporary firewall and also the migration of voice network from old firewall to PABX system. The subnet for data network remain the same as 192.168.2.0/24, but the subnet of voice network i edit from 172.16.2.0/24 to 192.168. 3.0/24.Now when i want to use one Cisco router 2600 to replace this temporary firewall then facing problem at the voice network....The data network after migrated from temporary firewall to new 2600 is ok, users can browsing. But when i trying to at the same time when the data network been migrated , it will affect the voice network which still located at PABX. ..user cannot make call...I was thinking reason because this voice network which currently in 192.168.3.0/24 is tight to somewhere on the 192.168.x.x at the old firewall internetwork. So, when i migrated the data network over to new router, it will also cause the failure of voice even thought after i migrated the voice system to new router. So when i do the disaster recovery back to the temporary firewall for both data and voice. The voice is resuming to normal.
