Network Adapters Not Working In Windows 7?
Jul 28, 2011
I am having problems with any type of Network Card or Network USB adapter working with my PC running Windows 7. I had a LinkSys WMP54G PCI card working on this computer about a year ago as I was needing to use a wireless connection but then I didn't use it for 6 months. When I went to use it again, it wouldn't pick up connections at all.Thinking it was an issue with the card, I picked up a Edimax 7612UAn USB adapter thinking it should work out of the box. When I plug the USB adapter in, the standard Windows driver installation tries to run but an error message occurs stating "Device driver software was not successfully installed" accompanied by "Realtek RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB Failed". If I try to install the drivers manually, nothing changes and in Device Manager the following error message is displayed under Device Status "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".

I have tried to install a usb network adapter wusb100 ver.2 under win7 x64 and win7 x64 sp1(two different machines). I have installed and downloaded the latest drivers ( Driver11/09/2009 Ver.3.0.3.0 (64-bit)). Device manager reports everything is fine, but i can't find the adapter anywhere in the Network and Sharing Center on both machines, not even if i run ipconfig it won't show up. As a result of course there is no wireless connection available. Although adapter has worked fine when tested under win7 x32. But win7 x32 is not my case.

I have 2 pc, one with windows xp SP3, and one with Ubuntu 10.04 Until 1 month ago on ubuntu it worked via a patch founded online, from 1 month on ubuntu it doesn't work anymore. Before I used a cable for xp and wireless for Ubuntu. Now I use cable for ubuntu and I try with key usb on windows xp sp3, but doesn't work, I see led, System says that connected, but If I do ping to a site via dos terminal it doesn't work. It doesn't work also if I use internet explorer to see google, but system says connected via linksys.
So I need to solve issue with windows xp, then I hope to solve also for Ubuntu.

I have a weird issue with my daughter's laptop. It will connect to the wired network, and give internet access, but it won't allow any connections via a wireless network adaptor. The laptop is on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.In device manager it says the wireless adaptor is working properly. The drivers are the latest. Down in the notification area it says "not connected - no connections are available". She has a wifi switch (Fn+F3) on the laptop, but switching it makes no difference. I have an old desktop pc that connects via a USB wifi dongle, so I plugged the dongle into the laptop. It installed without problems, but in the notification area it says the same thing, "not connected - no connections available" So now I'm thinking, "what sits between the network adaptors and Windows? How come it will connect on wired, but not wireless?"
This all started when I updated her Atheros wifi driver. From that moment on it wouldn't connect using wifi. I thought I had somehow physically broken the wifi adaptor hardware, so I bought a new one (a Killer n1202), but installing it made no difference. It's as though I have somehow altered the way that Windows communicates with any wireless adaptor. When I go to the command line and type "ipconfig /all", there is no entry for "wireless LAN adaptor wireless network connection", as there is on my other laptop.

I've just bought a WUSB300N Wireless USB Network Adapter and installed it with the Vista drivers on my Windows 2008 server. Drivers are succesfully installed and the Device status says "Device is working properly" but when I want to connect to a network it doesnot show any networks. I'm sure there are network available because I'm connected now on my other laptop ;-) typing this message.

My roommate is running dual boot Windows XP PRO (SP3) and Ubuntu 10.10. I am running Windows XP PRO(SP3). Is there any software, that can run on both OS and can create a home network that will work between XP and Ubuntu. He has Samba installed but I have read that that works on Linux not Windows so he can see me but I can't see him.

My laptop won't connect to the internet at all and status shows limited access to router. It was fine a few days ago until a Windows update. I did a system restore on it back to before the windows update and the internet was working just fine but then there was an automatic windows update again and the connection is gone again. When I try to troubleshoot it says the network adapter is not working properly. I'm currently using the main computer in the house. I can't access any network at all on my laptop and I'm nearly in tears. This has happened before about 7 months ago after a windows update. At that time I did a system restore and reinstalled the updates and it worked just fine. This time nothing. I have tried to check for updated drivers for the network adapters but windows says I'm running the recent ones.

This PC I am on refuses to work with USB wireless adapters of any shape or size. I have currently tried using 3 Belkin USB wireless adapters, both for 802.11g and 802.11n. I know there is no issue with the USB adapters as I have tried these in a friends computer of EXACTLY the same version of Windows 7 (64 bit Professional). I have tried simple changes, such as switching off Anti Virus and Firewall settings. I have also tried updating drivers, going through setups multiple times, restarting my PC more times than I care to count. The problem I am now facing is that the USB Wireless Adapter seems to be installed, according to the Adapter List in Device Manager, which is showing no Yellow Triangles in any lists, all seems fine there. No connections can be found, and it cannot be the range, as I am currently sitting in a built up area housing multiple connections that can be found from the same spot as where my PC is.
I am currently using a Belkin USB Wireless Micro Adapter Surf N150 ( url...), and I know that the USB adapter aforementioned is in no state of malfunction, as having used it on different machine.Using a Gigabyte M68MT-S2 motherboard and have had not USB troubles until now. I have never tried configuring my PC for wireless setup previous due to always having been able to connect through a wired connection up until now.

My usb devices- whenever I plug my Belkin usb internet adapter in I get an error noise (3 beeps) and the device does not power on. I tried another one (Cisco) from a different PC and got the same error. Tried this on all the ports and updated the drivers. All other USB devices work fine, tethering my phone to get internet for now. Had been using the device without problems for months until getting the error. The error started occurring when I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Using Windows 7 x64 on an HP Pavilion.

Just finally updated my ancient belkin modem to a Netgear D3600WiFi modem router which works really well. However. I have a old G5 Mac without wireless so have always connected through my old belkin modem with Powerline adapters over my house wiring circuit:confused. Unfortunately the powerline adapters no longer work although both lights are flickering on the units. Netgear say they should work.

I've been using my AE1000 for about a month now with absolutely no problems. Yesterday it just stopped working, I removed it from the USB port and just about burned my fingers on the metal part that plugs into the USB port. BTW I am on Windows 7 64-bit.
Now it won't work. I've tried reinstalling the driver and the device just blinks in the "Devices and Printers" control panel. I removed it again and it was very hot to the touch after only being in the port for about a minute.

Just got a new router. All of my devices connect fine to it except for the desktop that is using an external Linksys wireless adapter (WUSB54AG).The desktop is running Windows XP (Home Edition) SP3.The latest driver for the adapter has been installed (3.0.18.0).I am able to connect if security on the router is turned OFF.The router has 3 security options:
1) WPA-PSK (TKIP)
2) WPA2-PSK (AES)
3) WPA-PSk (TKIP) + WPA2-PSK (AES)
My understanding (from Linksys tech support) is that the device SHOULD be able to connect using WPA-PSK (TKIP). My Linksys Monitor indicates that the device is connected to the access point but not the internet (when I used WPA-PSK (TKIP). The IP address that is assigned is 169.254.3.129 and not the expected 192.168.1.x.When I turn security OFF on the router, the device can connect and I am assigned a "good" IP address (192.168.1.x).

I have a E2500 router and just got this AE3000 adapter. Thought that would bump up the wireless signal for using my laptop at the other end of the house about 75 feet from the router. The new E2500 Wireless N has been a big improvement. The AE3000 installed perfectly and shows up as working properly. It's just that the signal strength on my laptop shows 2 bars and the signal strength for the adapter shows 2 bars.

I've had the AE2500 adapter for a few weeks now, and it's worked fine up to this point. When I started up my computer today, however, it wouldn't connect to the network. I've uninstalled the software that came with the adapter and I've tried to reinstall it. However, when I got to the installation step to insert the adapter, the computer would not identify the AE2500. I've tried updating the drivers through the device manager, but I received an error stating that "a device attached to the system is not functioning".

I made the unpleasant discovery recently that all my corporate laptops are using the wifi network even when sitting on their docks or otherwise connected to the wired network. Most of them have intel wifi cards, and the proset software allowed me to disable-by-policy wifi if a lan connection is detected. Some, however, have a more generic wifi card that doesn't have fancy management software, leaving me with the default windows stuff. In an attempt to correct the problem I
a) Put Local Area Connections at the top of the Adapters and Bindings list
b) manually assigned cost metrics to the connections in the tcp/ip settings
