Cisco WAN :: 800 - Can't Connect To Other Static Ip In Block

Jun 20, 2011

I have 2 routers, one is a cisco 800 series router and the other just a plain WRT54G router. I have a block of 5 IPs. I have configured both routers with their own external ip addreses. Both routers can be used to connect to the internet. I can ping the cisco 800 router from the WRT54G router, but I can't ping the external ip of the wrt54G router from the 800 series router. I've checked the firewall, and acls, but I can't seem to find the right setting. I was also thinking that maybe it was something with the routing, but that didn't work either.

NSA5500 Block Of Static IP Addresses From An ISP

Nov 20, 2012

We have both a Comcast and Verizon connection at our school. They are going into a Sonicwall NSA5500. The configuration is such that if the primary - Comcast - fails then the secondary - Verizon - will pickup the internet traffic. The issue we are having is with local Verizon customers. When we got our IP address from verizon it was a /24 subnet with a gateway starting at .1

I thought this was strange as every other time I have gotten a block of static IP addresses from an ISP it has been a /29 or /28 at the most. But the ISP confirmed that this is what we were supposed to get and it should not cause problems.

A local business we deal with happens to be on our subnet with the same next hop Gateway. When I perform a traceroute to them, the traffic goes directly out the Verizon WAN interface to our common gateway, then to the local business. This, all while the Comcast Interface is our dedicated primary for all traffic.

I spoke with Sonicwall and they explained that the firewall is simply taking the most efficient path which makes sense to me in some regard but is still confusing why it would use the interface when policy says it is a failover.

Now, this local business tries to send us email with their on premise Exchange - we also have Exchange. The emails will sit in their queue indefinitely and ultimately fail to reach us. If I disable the Verizon interface the emails come in perfectly fine - even some in their queue will immediately come through once I disable it. I thought this was a DNS issue but it is not or at least our DNS is all configured correctly where we have no other problems with email. Our MX records utilize the static IPs from Comcast - nothing is using our static Verizon addresses.

D-Link DIR-655 :: PPPoE Won't Connect When In Static IP

Apr 23, 2011

I have a static IP at home and i have setup my Westell DSL modem to bridge - like the ISP told me too.  Then i change my 655 to PPPoE username and password, but when i give it the static IP, it won't connect.  But when i change it to DHCP, it connects.  Is this a Router issue, or a ISP issue.  I am leaning toward ISP, but i wanted to check with DLink first.

D-Link DIR-615 :: Devices Are Never Able To Connect Unless Set Them Up With Static Ip

Mar 21, 2012

I am currently having issues with the dhcp function on my DIR-615. The issue is some of my devices are never able to connect unless I set them up with static ip. Some of my devices are sometimes able to connect using DHCP but sometimes need to be set up with a static IP. In the log it says something along the lines of "sent out offer for IP 192.168.0.XXX" but the devices never receives the IP. The firmware says it is up to date. The hardware version is C1. Some of the devices having issues are PC's some are Macbooks and some are iphone and ipods. I'm not sure if it is related but when I look at who is using WAN some of the pc's who are connected to the internet have an ip address of 0.0.0.0.

Can't Connect Via Static IP But Works Fine Via DHCP

Feb 5, 2011

I am having trouble connecting to the internet, but not my network, when I assign a static IP to my machine. However, when it's set to DHCP, it works just fine.

Pertinent info:

-I'm connecting to a Linksys WRT610N router via a wireless USB adaptor, Netgear WNDA3100v2;

-Service is Time Warner Roadrunner cable;

-There is no IP conflict as I've got DHCP range set from .200-.249 and this machine's static is .100;

-All the other devices in the house are on static starting with .101 up and they all work fine, both wired and wirelessly;

-Can see and connect to all devices in the LAN, including the router, but nothing outside

Protocols / Routing :: Using Static IP Now Wireless Printer Won't Connect?

Jan 8, 2011

For some reason, our router donwstairs was kicking one or more of our (4pc's downstairs, one occasionally upstairs) off. My son connected another router upstairs and then created a static IP for everything. It seems when he did that, our Brother 2170 wireless printer quit working. We've tried everything to get it going again and nothing works- even Brother didn't get it rectified. Earlier today, my son finally got it working, connected directly to the router to get the static IP on the printer (I guess). But when he disconnected it (hardwired) from the router, it won't work again

Cisco :: ACL To Block One Host From Another?

Oct 31, 2012

I am learning to write ACL's along with a billion other Cisco things. The internet is not clear on how to do this exactly. At least in my research.

I have two host on the same subnet and I want to block all except RDP TCP port 3389 from one host to another.

I want to apply that Access-group to a switchport interface on my 3750 that belongs to the computer I want to protect from the other.

Host A: 10.1.1.10/24 -- I need to block all TCP and UDP traffic except for port 3389tcp

Host B: 10.1.1.60/24 -- I need to allow only TCP port 3389 from Host A to this one.

This is on the same switch so I can use an extended ACL like 101 or whatever.

This is almost starting to make sense to me but im still weak on extended ACL. I got basics down pretty well.

Cisco WAN :: 2800 - ACL To Block Routing?

Mar 20, 2012

I have a Cisco 2800 router.  I have been noticing a lot of traffic to Pandora lately.  At times my pipe is 25% music streaming and my router utilization can be quite high.  Our web filtering is a hosted service that does not block all traffic depending on some of the ports.  It is really designed for port 80 and 443 only.

We decided we want to block access to Pandora completely on both our primary internal LAN's and our Guest wireless LANs.

When I perform the ARIN lookup, I get these results for the IP range:

NetRange: 208.85.40.0 - 208.85.47.255
CIDR: 208.85.40.0/21

The CIDR notation does not make sense to me entirely.  The IP range includes 8  class C networks.  The /21 is a class b subnet of 255.255.248.0 or a router broadcast address for routing tables (depending on how you want to look at it).  I was not sure if I could block the address based on the router CIDR range of if I had to use the individual classful IP ranges.

Should I block "208.85.40.0 0.0.7.255" in my ACL or should I create 8 entries to block the networks like this?

208.85.40.0 0.0.0.255
208.85.41.0 0.0.0.255

Cisco WAN :: ASA 5510 Where To Block Traffic

Apr 22, 2013

where is the best place to block unwanted traffic?  By that I mean, should I block it at the router, firewall, IPS?  As an example, I'm dealing with DNS flood attacks - probably DDoS and reflection.  I have a pair of Cisco 2821 routers with two different ISPs doing BGP.  Behind that I have an ASA 5510 with IPS module.  Behind that I have 2 public DNS servers.  Over the last few days I've seen an increase in bogus DNS queries - high volume, distributed.  My question is where is the best place to put the ACL to block them? I've been putting them on the ASA, but when the attack is running, it jacks the CPU to 60%.  If I don't put the ACL, the IPS seems to pick them up after a while and the CPU is almost as high as with the ACL.  I haven't tried to put the ACL on the routers.
