Cisco Wireless :: How To Block LAP1242 AG Connect WLC
Mar 7, 2013
Did you meet this issues that the remote site (US) AP 1242 always connect to our site(ASIA) WLC 5508 (maybe some DHCP configure caused when troubleshooting, right nowDHCP back to normal. only enable vendor and option 43 for 1262 and 3602, no option 43 for 1242), but now we cannot block these AP1242 to join our site 5508 WLC. even I reset the 1242 AP to default configure from WLC GUI and CLI , but it's still there in a mins.
Since in our site Core SW, Router cannot find these AP mac address, and also those AP not the IP address in the WLC GUI and CLI .

I have some LAP1242 which by mistake were bought for Mesh. I am trying to convert them to LWAPP so what I did first was to convert them to Stand Alone then to LWAPP but I cannot get the AP to join the WLC and sends several error logs.
I attached some logs taken from AP and WLC so that you can figure out what's going on.
I wonder if I have to remove anything from flash either on SA or LWAPP mode (I know that in some cases you have to delete privete-config in order to avoid the AP taken previous configurations). By the way I think I had never seen this c1240-k9w8-mx.124-25e.JA2 on an AP IOS before, I wonder if it has to do with the mesh thing.

I have a Cisco 4402 WLC running version 4.2.112.0 controlling 20+ AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 access points running IOS 12.4 (10b). I'm trying to setup an additional AP as MESH. When I try to change the mode from local to bridge, on what will be the rootAP, I get a message stating that bridging is not support on this unit.

A refurbisched WS-C3750G-24WS-S50 that we have send to our client should support 50 LAP (the unit says WS-C3750G-24WS-S50 at the back of the unit). Also the "show version" of the 3750 says WS-C3750G-24WS-S50.
He upgraded the WLC software from 4.0 to 5.0 then to 6.0 and finally upgraded to 7.0 now claims the web-interface only shows 25 supported access-points. We never checked the cli from the WLC before the upgrade.
Also he uploaded a old config file from a other S25 intergated WLC controller .
1) What could be the reason for this issue ?
2) How does the upgrading from 25 to 50 LAP work ? Is it like the PIX/ASA with a license key ?
3) When you upgrade the WLC sofware you only use a piece of universel code like the IOS right ?,can it cause a integrated WLC to loose the support for the 50 LAP ?
4) Can you use a config file from a S25 with out issues ?
5) What part-ID do we need to purchase when we want to upgrade a S25 to a S50 ?

I have 2 Air-Lap1242 that wont save their config after reboot. They are managed by a WLC (4404) and it all seems pretty fine and dandy, but when i reboot them, they dont want to save anything.I am setting them up as bridges (mesh), and it works until i reboot them, then I have to do it all over again.Using CLI to type in "write mem" or "copy running-config startup-config" only results in.

I have 2 routers, one is a cisco 800 series router and the other just a plain WRT54G router. I have a block of 5 IPs. I have configured both routers with their own external ip addreses. Both routers can be used to connect to the internet. I can ping the cisco 800 router from the WRT54G router, but I can't ping the external ip of the wrt54G router from the 800 series router. I've checked the firewall, and acls, but I can't seem to find the right setting. I was also thinking that maybe it was something with the routing, but that didn't work either.

Currently have a Cisco Linksys EA3500 Smart Wi-Fi wireless router. Is there a possible way to prevent a computer or device to connect to the network, without making it obvious? Like to make it seem like there is an issue with the computer. Do not want to hide SSID, or block internet access. I've tried blocking internet access, but it displays on the computer that the internet has been blocked, which makes it obvious.

I have the Linksys WRT610N wireless router and would like to know if it is possible to block all domains ending in .XXX? The access restrictions let you type in a 'specific' URL, but using a generic domain name doesn't seem to work. I basically want to block all access to any URL that ends in .XXX.

Query regarding the Cisco WRVS4400N and Valet M10 routers. How to block the web interface (router login page) from wireless accessibility?
-Our Business is a hotel, so untrusted intruders are our guests.
-Our ISP seeks hotspot methods that we cannot implement.
-Our only solution is routers and an AP to extend internet wirelessly.
the login page or configuration page of the router is always accessible via the gateway address.if the gateway is 192.168.1.1, then a guest can just enter this address and try to guess the password. hacking tools add to the problem.the LAN is working but it is not of certification standards.I seek a way to block wireless access to the gateway login page or physical access only.

I want to prevent a wired pc with a static ip from accessing the internet on an e1200 router, but the computer does not show up in the list under "parental controls". I have tried adding it to the dhcp reservation table manually, but it still does not show up. There are, however, several unspecified "network devices" on the list. How can I do this?

I am attempting to block Facebook on a WRT160N firmware v3.0.00. I have a successful policy that blocks edit.com for instance and attempted to add url... I don't want to add keyword blocking as multiple news articles are in regards to Facebook. We simply do not want the Facebook website allowed. I tested the other policies on a network-wide setting, applying it to all IPs successfully, added Facebook to them and it goes right around the block. My guess is that Facebook is most likely designed to make it purposely difficult to block.
I went through the recent articles in search, but they primarily dealt with incorrect application of the policy (spec'ing MAC, or IPs), which isn't the case here. Eventually I will apply the policies to specific Macs, but I want them to work first.

I have a Cisco E3000.My roommate is using our internet connection (in fact mine) to donwload on BitTorrent networks. I could block BitTorrents urls, but she could dowload the torrent file from another connection and do the download with my connection. So I forgot that way.I could also block ports... but she could change the ports of the BitTorrent network...

I've been keeping an eye on my IPS report tab lately and have been watching a large number of ICMP_SMURF and DOS attacks originating from chinese ip address's. I know I can probably block the offending ip's through the ip based acl tab in the firewall settings, but I'm kind of a newbie how I can block certain ip's from touching my router?

I use two wlc 4400 (4.2.x version) with a mobility domain and one ssid, both wlc are connected to a cisco l2 switch infrastructure. On the wlc I use the p2p blocking action 'drop' [URL] to isolate the clients from each other. Does only unicast traffic is blocked or also multicast and broadcast traffic like arp requests?Concerning blocking p2p traffic of clients connected to the same ssid but different controllers I found the following statement in the LAP FAQs [URL]
Q. In autonomous APs, Public Secure Packet Forwarding (PSPF) is used to avoid client devices associated to this AP from inadvertently sharing files with other client devices on the wireless network. Is there any equivalent feature in Lightweight APs?
A. The feature or the mode that performs the similar function of PSPF in lightweight architecture is called peer-to-peer blocking mode. Peer-to-peer blocking mode is actually available with the controllers that manage the LAP. If this mode is disabled on the controller (which is the default setting), it allows the wireless clients to communicate with each other through the controller. If the mode is enabled, it blocks the communication between clients through the controller. It only works among the APs that have joined to the same controller. When enabled, this mode does not block wireless clients terminated on one controller from the ability to get to wireless clients terminated on a different controller, even in the same mobility group.
what's the best practise to prevent this inter wlc client traffic? I already read about using acls on the wlc dynamic interfaces, or private vlans on the l2 switch vlans where the dynamic interfaces are connected to. Is it allowed to completely isolate the wlc from each other on these dynamic interfaces with acls or private vlans or do the wlc need to see each other on this interfaces (e.g. heart beat)?

I'm trying to block two URL's over the entire network via my E4200. I'm having a heck of a time doing this, I loginto my router via the browser (the web setup) (because I think Cisco Connect on the Mac is about the worst software ever written.) And I go to the Access Restrictions page. There I understand I'll have to use the Internet Access Policy pane to make some more advanced settings than the Parental Control.
I enter a name for my rule, so far so good. Enable it. Go to the applied PC page. Open the page to enter MAC adresses and IP's. I go to the IP Address Range field and entere in the box numbered 01; 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.51 which in my case is the enitre network. Save the setttings and close that window.
I don't set Access Restriction to deny becasue that seems to block the entire network.
So I go the the Website Blocking by URL Address option and enter the URL I want to block.
I don't do anything wiht the the Blocked Applications since I don't want to block a specific service or application. So I click Save Settings.
And yet when I go to the URL I want to block it doesn't work! [URL]
