Cisco WAN :: 871W - Router Configuration / Not In Possession Of Password
Jul 8, 2012
Recently, I purchased a Cisco 871W Router with which to practice/study for my CCENT with. Since I have made the purchase, it has given me nothing but headaches.
I cannot access the router to configure it, as the previous owner has a password set on it to access enable mode, which he/she has forgotten.
Here is the message that I receive when I attempt to log in into the router, to access enable mode. [URL]
Apparently there is supposed to be a one-time username and password of "Cisco", but this is not the case.
I have tried to do a password recovery, following this post discussion thread: [URL]
Unfortunately, this has not worked, and I am sure that I am doing something incorrectly. I am connected to the router via console cable and have tried power cycling the router and entering the break sequence, power cycling again, and then holding the space bar down for 15 seconds. The preceding has produced no results to speak of. Following, I set my terminal emulator, Tera Term, to the baud rate of 1200, power cycled the router, and held down the space bar for 20 seconds. I then immediately set the baud rate back to 9600. Nothing occurred, once again.
Furthermore, I have followed the password recovery instructions set forth by Cisco. [URL]
Nothing has come of these methods, either, and I do not see how they would work, or even apply to my situation, as Cisco seems to imply they should, as I cannot get into enable mode, let alone privileged mode or conf t mode, as the guidelines require.
Here is some info for troubleshooting:
OS: Win 7 HP 64 bit
Terminal Emulator: Tera Term
Router is not currently connected to any sort of internet connection. Only the power cord and console cable are properly connected.
I know this question was asked many times, but I'm still not able to finalize my configuration on 871w. LAN part works fine, but wireless clients do not get DHCP IP. here is the config:
Building configuration... Current configuration : 2092 bytes ! version 12.4 no service pad service timestamps debug date time m sec service timestamps log date time m sec no service password-encryption ! [ code ].....
I'd like to have LAN and WLAN clients in same 192.168.1.0 sub net.
I have a Cisco 871 router at one of my client sites.(they purchased the router from me and I sent them the router with a basic configuration on it). When they connect it after hours clients get the proper IP addresses and dhcp configuration however are unable to access the internet. We are connecting their ISP supplied router to Gigabitethernet0. They have a static address. I have been through the confirmation many times and am thinking I am missing something so simple.
I'm trying to configure WiFi on my Cisco 871w router withouth any knowledge in this area. And it's a tough one, couldn't do it just with google, hope this is the place where I can get it done right step by step if possible. Everything else works fine. I'm going to post my messy show run below. Everything I did on dot11Radio will need to be cleared I suppose.
Point38#show run Building configuration... Current configuration : 4072 bytes ! ! Last configuration change at 16:23:18 UTC Thu Sep 8 2011 version 15.1 no service pad
I've just started styding for CCNA. Bought a router 871W recently and spent two days straight trying to configure internet connection with no luck! I use console port to do the configs and SDM/CCP. How to do simple internet connection configs. I googled everything but it's still confusing. I can't assing any IP to FA ports 0 - 3. I used VLAN instead. But all tutorials use FA0 and when I try to assign an IP to FA0 it gives me some L2 can't be assigned or something... :/ And I'm also confused what IP address should I use for WAN. I plugged the cable from Modem to PC's LAN port and wrote down some IP addresses which I think I'll have to use to configure the router for internet connection. And here they are:
Region : Others Model : TL-MR3420 Hardware Version : V2 Firmware Version : 2.1 ISP : PTCL
trying to connect to router configuration (after several factory resets) at 192.168.0.1 but each time screen displays invalid username / password, doesnot even display username / password window, using admin as username and password, just cannot log on to configuration setup
Is it possible to encrypt password provided for the ldap-login-password attribute in the ASA configuration? Our auditor is not comfortable with the LDAP (AD) password appearing in clear text in the configuration
I'm at my brother's house and I'm trying to connect to hs wireless network. I know the password but whenever I try to enter it it gives me a message that says, "The network password needs to be 128bits or 256 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 8 to 63 characters or 64 hexadecimal characters." From other forums I've looked at it says that I need to get to the router settings page. It gives me an IP adress to paste into the web browser but it doesn't come up as anything. What the heck?
I am a bit green with IOS and have exhausted everything I can think of with this. The router passes the WAN test in CCP?Undoubtedly there are probably a few things in the config that are either redundant or totally unnecessary, but I have been trying a few things to solve this with very little success.I have no security stuff in here because I have triewd to keep the config as simple as possible to start with. I will add that after I get the routing working.
Here is my most recent config:
Cisco871W#show config Using 2631 out of 131072 bytes ! version 12.4 no service pad service timestamps debug datetime msec service timestamps log datetime msec no service password-encryption
I am setting up a guest WLAN network on our existing 1242 AP's using a seperate VLAN. On most wireless devices which are on the company network/VLAN's, I have used WEP authentication with hex keys, and no broadcast. Obviously this cannot be the same for a guest internet connection. We want to have the VLAN/SSID in guest mode (which i have configured) for broadcasting, and then once someone selects the SSID on their laptop or smart phone, they are just prompted to authenticate with a standard alphanumeric password (example "guestwifi") instead of a 40 or 128 bit key.
I have searched all over and tried multiple things in the CLI on AP1, but can't seem to get anywhere.
I am new with ASA devices I have a ASA 5505, the former IT manager does not remember the password of it. I am just wondering do I lose the configuration on it if I reset the password?if yes, how can I download the configuration before resetting the password. and how can I upload the downloaded configuration
I have a wireless setup with a linksys router hooked up. I mainly connect with my laptop but now I'm trying to test out a Dell Inspirion 3000 Windows XP. The Dell picks up the signal of my connection that is secure when I have the proxim router connected. When I go to put in my password I get this message : "The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters." Otherwise if I direction plug in the Ethernet cord it 'connects' but I can't do anything. I'm set up as a WPA Personal in security mode when I got into my linksys account.
I bought an 871w second hand with 124-24T IOS on it. I would like to enable QoS. When I use Cisco Configuration Professional to manage the router I click on QoS and it says it is not available. I know that the router itself is QoS capable.
This is my first time dealing with a router such as this and I wonder what I need to do to enable QoS.
Recently I came across a router (Cisco 3845, IOS 12.4) configured for TACACS, one local username and an enable password. Going through the configuration I noticed the router didn't have an enable secret password which I thought was strange. The TACACS config is below, comments regarding the TACACS config and the consequences of not having an enable secret or if there is a need for one.

I have a cisco 871w router that I'm trying to incorporate into an existing network. I have FastEthernet4 (WAN port) plugged into an ISP device, which I don't have access to. I have the address set to use dhcp, which is successfully recognized and I see that the interface gets a valid ip address that I can ping with other computers on the same network.
Problems: I am logged into the router via the serial port and I cannot ping websites on the internet. I am able to ping sites that are hosted inside the WAN, but when I try "google.com" for instance, I see it sending out packets, but none are received. It resolves the hostname from the local DNS server, but there are no packets received.
I type into the console to set up the router. I'm missing a lot of stuff. This is what I've been able to piece together using google and the software manuals:
enable config t hostname [hostname] interface FastEthernet 4
As soon as I add the interfaces of the router to security zones it significantly drops speed on WAN interface, below 1 Mbs. I noted this because I wasn't able to watch youtube. Moreover the bandwidth test from speedtest.net hangs and doesn't come to a result. Here below is the diagnostic example while doing that test. The question is what is going on? I have two iPhones and three computers in my network, that's it. My ISP bandwidth is 10 Mbs, so is this the router hardware limitations, or kind of malfunction or some misconfiguration down here? What could be done here ?
About twice a day (that I notice) my wireless loses its internet connection. All the wired machines continue to be connected to the internet but any wireless ones lose internet, though they maintain a connection with the router.
I have a small wireless network, which consists of three AP1121G with c1100-k9w7-mx.123-8.JEB1 ios and one 871w with c870-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T1. I've configured two different ssid's with individual authorisation types - ssid_1 with eap, ssid_2 with wpa. All three ap's works as it should be, but 871w authorises only eap connections, and all other types are rejected
Is it possible to make Any Connect VPN from IPad/iPhone to 871w? IPSec VPN is working perfectly but cant get my Cisco AnyConnect iOS client to connect. I have config webvpn and it beeing user/pw prompted but keep getting the following error:
"the required license for this type of VPN client is not avaiable on the Secure gateway. Please contact Your network administrator".
I am new to Cisco and am studying for my CCENT certification. At the moment, I am attempting to correctly configure a Cisco 871W lab router. Since I have undertaken this task, I have run into nothing but problems. First off it was finding that the previous owner had left a password on it, having to purchase a new USB to DB9 adapter to pass the "break" sequence to the router, and then resetting the router in ROM Monitor mode.
Now, I cannot seem to configure the router correctly, and am quite stumped.
My ISP is Charter (cable internet), and the home network that I am using consists of a Motorola SBV5122 Digital Voice Modem, Motorola SB6120 Cable modem, and, ideally, should also include my Cisco 871W router.
When I connect my router to the SB6120 Cable modem, the router receives an IP address via DHCP and the WAN indicator light turns on.
I have a VLAN configured on the 4 switchports of the router, and it is setep to act as a DHCP server. However, when I connect my PC to rhe router via Cat5e Crossover cable, I cannot access the internet. The router gives the PC an IP address, yet all attempts to ping the PC from the router fail. Somehow, I can connect to the router via SSH though.
Furthermore, I can ping the 127.0.0.1 loopback address from my PC, but cannot do so from the router.
how to correctly configure this router to function as intended in my network situation, however, this is proving to be seemingly unsurmountable!
I have attached the config of my router along with both outputs and commands relating to my predicament.
Below is my VPN config in my 871 and radius user config. I am unable to connect to the vpn using Cisco vpn client. I am getting one of two errors depending on what config changes I make.I believe I have the radius configured correctly because it is authentication but not 100% sure.
I've acquired an 871W, because I'd like to use wireless, to replace my 851. I Ft Pd the 851's configuration to my FTP server and then Ft Pd this to the 871W. Save for the fact that this has a radio interface (currently shutdown), everything works save for FTP from the outside. I can not even telnet to port 21 of any of the internal FT servers. I can telnet to any other port (ssg, smtp, HTTP, https, etc.) but FTP will not pass. What's the difference?
I'm moving from an 1801W to an SRP547.My adsl supplier (BT) has given me a username and password, and also a router IP address, a subnet and an gateway IP address. I have 13 fixed IP addresses. I don't speak cisco, so I'm using the built in interface to configure it.If i choose IPoA I can enter the IP settings. If I choose PPPoA I can enter the username and password.I do not see anyway I can enter both the IP settings and the username + password on the WAN configuration page.
I have a problem with myself a few other clients randomly disconnecting from my 871W. It appears that I am still associated but Windows 7 shows "Limited Access". I appear to be assosciated to the AP and I still have my ip address but I can't ping the 192.168.1.1 gateway (871W). I have also set my power plan to allow for Maximum Performance which I thought disabled PSP but the log is still showing errors. As a final note, after I reconnected by ip address (192.168.1.107) doesn't show up in "sh ip dhcp bindings" but I'm working. To correct the situation, I have to disconnect and the reconnect to the AP and then I am good for another day or close to it. Below are the log errors, config and a sh ver. [code]
I've a problem with my 871W. I can connect to the router by inside interfaces (LAN & WLAN) but not on WAN (Fa4). My client on the WAN is on the same subnet and I can ping 871.
how to recover password and retrive configuration on Cisco switch 2950 and 3560.I know the way to press and hold the mode button and then plug in the power cord can reset the switch to factory default but it will reset everything to nothing. As such, it is not what I want and I want to keep the configuration file and able to use the configuration on the switch.
I have an 871w set up to add wireless connectivity to an existing network. When adding a client to the physical interfaces to test VLAN internet connectivity, however, a DHCP address is assigned but internet traffic on the terminal never reaches the network nor does the network recognize the IP the terminal shows as being 'connected'. Also, pings sourced from the VLAN do reach destinations. I've attached my config file, I think it's a routing issue of some kind.
10.26.99.0 is the existing network. 10.26.99.1 is an existing 871w router set as the DHCP server for that network and 10.26.99.10 is a Windows Server 2003 DNS box. VLAN 2 and DHCP pool alpha were control sets for trialing DNS settings.
I'm unable to maintain a connection with an FTP host outside my network through my Cisco 871W Wireless/Wired router. I am able to establish a connection with the external FTP server, but when I attempt to transmit files I get repeated disconnections and failures.
The software running on the device is IOS C870-ADVSECURITYK9-M, Version 12.3(8)YI2 RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) Synched to technology version 12.3(10.3)T2 System Bootstrap Version 12.3(8r)YI
I know it has to be somewhere in the configuration, but SDM no longer operates and I'm not entirely familiar with the IOS command set. When I remove the Cisco device and plug my computer directly into my ISP network, I am able to send files via FTP with no problems.
I've been trying to get my wireless configured for the past few days with no luck. I can ping every device on my local network and I can ping outside my network and surf the web. My wireless devices can see my wireless network but cannot connect to it.
i have a really simple home network setup using the Cisco 871W 4-Port 10/100 Wireless G Router (CISCO871W-G-A-K9). I can't figure out for the life of me what is going on. Web pages seem to "half load" sometimes (netflix, facebook, bank of america doesn't load at all, etc). It doesn't always happen. Sometimes the pages will load fine. I have tested with multiple computers so I know that it is the router itself. Below is my configuration. Ignore anything regarding the wifi. I know that isn't set up correctly. I'll deal with that later. I wanted to see if i was missing anything. Config is really basic. Attached is what one of the "half loading" web pages looks like
