Linksys Wrt54g - Make Wifi Range Greater?

Sep 19, 2012

I have a new technicolor TG582n modem and the wifi signal doesn't reach to all the house. It's a big house, lots of concrete walls. I also have a Linksys WRT54G router and I'm wondering if it's possible to put the Linksys in the other area of the house and capture the signal from the Tompson. Then connect to that signal with my laptop. Maybe this will work to give me wifi in all areas.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: WS-C3750X-48T-S - Error On Default IOS / Authentication Fail

Feb 8, 2012

I am getting the below error on my new switch though I can’t find out A. why I am getting the error and obviously B. how to resolve said error as I need to ensure I am operating under the letter of the law and compliance.  The switch is a WS-C3750X-48T-S running C3750E-IPBASEK9-M, per my research IP base is the correct IOS for a T-S switch, the label on the outside of the switch matches the show ver (WS-C3750X-48T-S) so I know that IPBase is the right IOS for the hardware.  Could it be that I don’t have the license file installed? Below is what I get when I do a show license.  Lastly is there a place that I can find what IOS ships default with what switches, not version but type like c3750e-ipbasek9-mz.150-1.SE vs c3750e-ipbase-mz.150-1.SE

2960S Skills Of Switch Configuration Are Greater Than Network Design

Jan 5, 2012

One of our clients is replacing some of their aging network components with 4 Cisco 2960S switches. Unfortunately in this case, my skills of switch configuration are greater than my skills of network design. I have a really crude network diagram of their basic network layout (4 servers, 4 switches, and a number of endpoints).

How would you experts design the physical connections in such a way as to facilitate some redundancy?

Cisco Infrastructure :: HWIC-2FE Fails To Pass Ping Packets Greater Than 449 In Slots 0 Or 1

Apr 9, 2013

When we install an HWIC-2FE card in slot 0 or slot 1 of a 3845, the interface fails to pass any ping packet greater in size than 449 bytes.  It works fine up until that limit is reached, but then fails completely on a larger size packet.  If we move to slot 3 or slot 4 on the 3845, the card works just fine!  I have looked through the cisco official bug tracker for HWIC-2FE, but could not find a similar symptom listed.  We're running advanced ip services 12.4(24)T7 code on the routers. Any software fix or if this is a platform problem with the 3800 series.

Cisco 3560 / AP 1420 - VLANs And Trunks

Dec 16, 2011

I'm building this network and I stumbled upon a problem that I don't understand. Here is how my config looks:
PC -----------vlan5-------Cisco 3560----trunk3-5----Cisco AP1420
Vmware guest

Configuration of 3560:
interface Vlan3
description ID-180, wifi1
ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.224
ip access-group 115 in
[code] .......

Configuration of WIFI AP:
interface FastEthernet0
no ip address
no ip route-cache
[code]....

PC and vm ware are plugged in port 5 and 6, wifi in port 7. There if no V LAN ID set on the PC, but there is V LAN ID set on the VM ware esx interface. If I try to ping WIFI from PC or esx, ping doesn't get through. If I plug WIFI to port 5 or 6, I get access it.

Setting up a wireless router but now im starting to think the reason the connection is so bad is because of my computer. I have a dell inspiron 1420 and sometimes the internet is fine and then it doesnt work at all and says cannont connect to primary dns server. Also i ran a diagnostics on my wlan wireless card and it says gateway ip ping, internet ip ping, and dns ip ping all failed. The wireless says it has 5 bars but I usually have to disconnect and reconnect for it to work and it only works for about 15 seconds before it slows down again

When I press connect diagnose problem it quickly opens a small window stating that windows could not connect to "Kat-wifi" (my network. I have tried rebooting the computer as well as rebooting the router by uplugging and waiting the 30 sec to 1 min and then retrying but to no avail.  When I connect the computer to an ethernet cable I AM able to connect to the interent. I even atempted to manually run a test with the wireless and it passed everything except the PING test. it stated NO RESPONSE DHCP SERVER. I tried then to go to the screen of Wireless Network Conenction Properties and checked the IP Version 4 (TCP/IPv4 and both the obtain IP address and Obtain DNS server automatically are already on.

I am using Windows Vista.  I checked the Device Manager ... no exlamation points or question marks.

Dell :: Design Defect On 1420 Wi-Fi Catcher Activity Indicator?

Dec 1, 2007

I now have two identically configured (same hardware and software) Inspiron 1420 (new) and I can't get the Wireless Activity Indicator light to come on. I've talked with Tech Support three times (Level 1 and 2). They thought it was the switch ans sent an in-home technician to replace the bottom casing of my first unit. When the Technician realized that the switch was fine and the indicator (LED light) was not coming on, I requested a new replacement unit. The second unit arrived with the same non-functioning LED. As I mentioned in a previous post, I've gone to Staples office supply store that now sells Dell 1521 & 1721 laptops and both store display model's LED activity indicator lights up when both units are off and the switch is pushed to the ">>" position. Having already insured (with Tech Support walking me through it) that Quickset as well as the BIOS have the Wi Fi Catcher enabled and Wireless settings enabled. There are no problems connecting to wireless networks when the laptop is on and the switch does turn wireless On and Off. Question to all Inspiron 1420 owners, how many of you can get your wireless activity indicator to light up when your laptop is OFF?  If enough owners respond that their LED indicators don't work, maybe we can get Dell to admit a design defect. At this point, I don't know what else to do to get Dell to fix this issue and I assume they won't keep sending me new replacement laptops until I find one whose LED works.

Dell :: Inspiron 1420 / Intel T7250 - Cannot Get Network Adapter Driver To Work

Feb 16, 2012

Replaced the HDD in my wife's Inspiron 1420, Vista, Intel dual core T7250s

Broadcom 802.11n adapter

Kept all the disks shipped with the lappy, Prepped the HD per the media rules, loaded windows and the mediadirect and the driver resource CD..  they all had autoexecs and seem to run fine.   Failed to connect to the net.. checked it out on device mgr, found the code 10 fail..  All other drivers seemed to have loaded..

tried to update the driver..  it said it already had the correct driver. - fail

DLed the Broadcom driver to a thumb and installed it - no difference.  Rebooted..  several times during all this.

Read here it might be install order - thought I might try it manually.  Looked for Intel T7250 drivers.. "not currently available" here.

Cisco :: ASA 5505 As Default-Gateway?

Mar 28, 2012

I am trying to get rid of 2 old 2651xm's and 2 2950's from my CCNA days and want to get into the ASA realm. Can I be able to use the ASA, not only as a security appliance / firewall, but also be able to write the access lists, etc, to be able to use this as my router to push packets to and from my internal LAN to the outside world? I guess I should have stated as this being the front end device to my network, just after my DSL Cable modem, that is..and being the only device. I am trying to have this as my main router /firewall solution and then I have an old Linksys router I will pipe off one of the L2 ports to have an AP for my wireless devices? Is this a real solution an ASA can provide?

Cisco WAN :: Can't Use ASA5505 As Default Gateway For LAN

Mar 16, 2011

We have a network consisting of a central site and a few remote offices. The sites are all connected via MPLS and also have VPNs over ADSL / internet connections as a backup. The remote offices have Cisco 837 routers for the ADSL connections which we can manage but the MPLS routers are managed by the service provider providing the MPLS connections. At the central site we have a Cisco 891 for the the MPLS connection (which we manage) and a Cisco ASA5505 for the backup VPNs.

In order to implement failover from MPLS to VPN in the event of any MPLS line going down I have tried to use ip sla monitors and tracked objects on the 891 as per Cisco's documentation. The problem that I am finding is that I can't set the number of ICMP echo failures required before the tracked route is dropped. Whenever the ip sla monitor fails to get a response the tracked route is dropped immediately. This is too sensitive as packets are occasionally dropped which results in the routes bouncing back and forth between MPLS and VPN too frequently (disconnecting users in the process).

I have tried different threshold types and values, tried configuring ip sla monitor reaction-triggers (although I don't understand what little documentation that I can find on this) and have even looked at event manager. I have been working on this for a few weeks now and am getting nowhere.

The Cisco ASA5505's implementation of ip sla monitor is much better in that it is possible to specify the number of packets but unfortunately we can't use the ASA as the default gateway for the LAN as the asymmetrical routing that occurs does not work with the firewall function of the ASA.

Any issue with ip sla monitor on IOS and managed to get it working?

Cisco WAN :: BGP 300 - Default Route Maps

Sep 3, 2011

I'm working on a practice lab and am having the following issue. I have a customer router connected to two different ISP routers. Each ISP router must advertise a default through BGP to the customer and one of the default routes must be preferred over the other. Given if the preferred route interface is shut down the other default route is inserted into the routing table and when the preferred default route interface it turned back on that path is used again. The catch is I cant alter the customer router only the the two ISP devices.  I tried doing some route maps but I'm lost. I have deleted all my route maps and have posted the BGP portion of the ISP routers.
