I have a new technicolor TG582n modem and the wifi signal doesn't reach to all the house. It's a big house, lots of concrete walls. I also have a Linksys WRT54G router and I'm wondering if it's possible to put the Linksys in the other area of the house and capture the signal from the Tompson. Then connect to that signal with my laptop. Maybe this will work to give me wifi in all areas.

Partitions in home are concrete block, not sheetrock. Should I get a new N router? Is there a repeater or booster that will do the job? Or connect existing router to new router in other room with ethernet cable going outside then over roof of house then inside to room?

Router says "Invalid IP address" when I try to make a manual IP address reservation of the IP address range.
Example: local network 192.168.1.0/24, where .1 is a router, .2 is a reservation, .20-.50 is a range for DHCP.
Before upgrade I didn't have this problem.

In the past few days, we've been unable to access any sites in the IP range 130.160.x.x (that is, those at The University of Alabama). A particular example is ua.edu (130.160.4.131). The rest of the internet works fine.This is on Ubuntu 12.04, Windows 7, or Android ICS; with Chrome, Firefox, IE9, or SSH. If I connect the modem to an Ubuntu laptop directly by USB, I can get to ua.edu just fine.
I tried resetting the router to factory defaults, upgrading the firmware, connecting via ethernet rather than wifi, and using the Google DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in the router, but the problem persists. Naturally, UA's helpdesk, Comcast, and Linksys were all either useless or uncooperative. [code]

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust got a WAG120N modem/router , everything is set up and works fine.But I am very disappointed with its wifi range.After using an iPhone and a PSP , I found that, its range is 1,80 meters only, in empty room.Is it faulty ? I cant believe its range is too short although I know that its not "enhanced speed & range" as typed on box.I tried all combination of channels/protocols with no success and it's already flashed on latest version. I really cant connect to my wifi devices.

I have gone through everything to try figure out how to make my S.S.I.D. to not be broadcasted, but seems like the only way to make it hidden is to use the Origonal Firmware make it as hidden, then install the New Firmware and software. Seems like Cisco may have missed this option. I do know a lot of people would prefer their Networks hidden for a little security. I know it isn't much, cause if someone wants to get that info it's not hard to get it. But for people who don't know or don't want to waste all the time to find the Hidden Network name can be turned away, for going through that extra step.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus U31JG with WIndows 7 64-bit. This laptop is a month old to me and the wireless has been acting up since the day I got it, will explain below. I believe my home network is the problem. I have a Linksys WRT54G with WPA Personal encryption. Multiple times a day my internet quits working even though Windows says it has full connection to my router. To fix this, I open command prompt and use "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". This fixes the problem for me, it may be a minute or a few hours. The problem is very intermittent and only happens at my home which is why I believe it is my network. However, I changed the wireless channel to 1, the only one around on that channel and tried different security settings. My WiFi works flawlessly if I take my laptop to my friends house where he has a Netgear router. I have also tried a brand new Cisco Router as well as a Netgear router at my house.
I've re installed the driver twice, and the same problem persists in Linux only I just have to disable/enable wireless.
Note: When the internet quits working on my laptop it works on other devices so it is not the internet connection causing this. And my internet is very slow when it is working on my laptop via wireless.
I'm having trouble connecting my PS3 to the internet. I'm too far away from my wifi router and can't get a good signal strength. I do have an ethernet cable from my pc, but apparently it only works in my pc and not on my PS3. It keeps saying: no ethernet cable connected. I've searched fora, but apparently this can be caused by a lot of things, and I dont really find a solution :s. The problem is, it has worked before, and now it doesn't. Also, ethernet on my ps3 works perfectly at my buddy's house.
I have a linksys wrt54g version 7. I installed the router myself, but if my wired connection to my pc works, and the wireless connection works for the laptop, there shouldn't be any problem I guess?Perhaps, could the laptop -which is on the router's wifi and which is halfway in between my router and my PS3 in distance- act as a wifi amplifier to my PS3? That way, the ps3 could pick up the signal from the laptop, instead of all the way from the router?

When I turn off the wi-fi connection, I can access through the 4G network. My provider is Cox Cable. I've unplugged the modem and the router for 30 seconds and even reset the security.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy wrt54g (firmware old - v1.00.6) has run fine for years until my daughter got a laptop with win7. All my other systems still run XP or win2k. I only run wireless with her win7 and one netbook with xp, all the other connections are wired.
Going to speedtest.net and after I reset (pull power) the router, I get 20Mbps download. After the win7 wifi runs for a bit, download speed drops to 2 Mbps or less. It seems to be after she goes to you tube and starts watching videos. If I reset again, it immediately goes back to the full speed of 20. I measure this after she's taken her laptop off the network. So, whatever her win7 is doing, it stays that way after she disconnects (i.e. slow on my other systems) until the reset. I also measured the speed on her win7 system and it also would slow there as well and speed up after a reset (for a while).
My cable went out and my neighbor and I have decided to split her at$t broadband, the phone/modem/router is a 2wire.
I have 3 windows 7 computers but only one wireless g usb wireless adapter from tenda. I also have a linksys wrt54g wireless router that I can use.
I have tried to set up the router as a wireless bridge by loading a DD-WRT bin on my linksys but it seemed way buggy -results - I was only able to get 2 of 3 online and if I restarted any of them I lost the connection completely.
Went back to stock firmware and tried to set up a lan between the 3 towers with the linksys then just bridge the two connections on the main pc - results -no internet at all on 2nd and 3rd pc... and when the connection to the wifi network is started I loose my networking to the 2 pc's on the linksys.
Im not sure if im not setting these up correctly as im just following guides and such but since im fairly good with computers this is making me crazy...to be able to set three computers up on 1 good clear wifi should be an easy task but it's just not working out..
I have the following equipment
E2500 wireless N router (2 of these)
WRT54g router (B/G)
WAP54g access point (B/G)
I am planning to set up a wi-fi network for a single story motel. It is C-shaped; about 300 feet along the longest side with "legs" of 120 and 70 feet. I have included a diagram that I drew for the person that will install it. Until now I have only used that single WRT54g in the office for the entire property and it covers about half the property (left side) but not well and with a dead spot in the top left because of too many walls to go through.
My plan starts in the office (bottom left) with a WRT54g connected to the DSL modem as it always was. That would be connected to one of the E2500s in the middle so it can cover the most area. From there two others would shoot out to each corner (the other E2500 and the WAP54g). They will all be wired together with Cat 5e "riser cable". The routers will be placed in a wide open attic.
1. Is this is a good plan for the size of property? I have heard that N routers have a range of 150ft in every direction so that's why I'm putting one in the middle. Keep in mind that while the attic is open and wood constructed, the walls between rooms are concrete firewall and they haven't been wi-fi friendly. Hopefully putting them in the attic takes care of this.
2. Does starting with a B/G router at the modem mean the N routers will revert to B/G?
3. What are the main settings I need to know about? What "mode" does each need to be set to? Do they need different default gateways?
Can I use the same password/security for all of them? Should I use the same SSID for all?
I've done a firmware upgrade to latest version v4.21.5 yet my Wifi still isn't broadcasting for my devices to find and connect as of last night (Aug 5, 2012). This hasn't happened before, so I was hoping it would return but still hasn't started working yet.My iphone just says "unable to connect."
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with connectivity and my iPhone 5. The Wi-Fi is okay in some parts of my home network, however in others it is abysmmal. When I bring my computer to the places where the iPhone has problems with signal strength/staying connected the computers have full or almost full strength and no problems. I upgraded firmware for the router, spoke with applecare, have reset the router multiple times, and have been trying different channels. I had the phone in with the Apple store where they concluded nothing seems wrong with the hardware. The phone doesn't seem to have problems like this on other wifi networks I have tried. Using a speed test on the iPhone at home in the low connectivity areas results in horrendously poor latency numbers.

DSL modem works fine when connected directly to computer. No internet output from WRT54G wired or wireless, but wireless network is recognized by computer, just no internet. I did a reset and installed the latest firmware, then I ran thru the setup CD that came withe the router, and the internet test said no internet connection was available. Cables are fine, connector innards look clean.

So it's an issue with the router or settings. I called Linksys and was told the settings would have to be reset/updated. I was told there would e a fee. I did not want to pay a fee. New wireless router was installed yesterday. I switched from Linksys WRT54G v. 5.0 to Medialink N. I hardwired to desk top first. Then I turned on my laptop and connected to the internet without problems. Next device = Acer Aspire netbook. The netbook receives a strong signal from the router but cannot connect to the internet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the top end ea4500 hoping its "high end" claims would get a better wifi signal in my bedroom(on my iphone 4s) than what i was getting with my WRT54G.The end result is it constantly drops signal completely or shows my network but when I try to connect says "cannot connect to wireless network" even though it's staring me right in the face. When I hook my WRT54G up, I get a signal.. all be it weak, but at least it doesn't drop out on me.Did I just waste almost $200 on a high end router that can't push a signal out stronger than my almost 7 year old WRT54G? or am i missing some setting that will make this EA4500 worth its claims? settings info:everything is pretty much on "default" aside from the SSIDs for the different bands and the corresponding WPA passwords.
also another problem, it seems like the router itself craps out every 60-120 minutes, no leds lit up on the router and my modem (Cisco DCP3010) shows no "link". Yet when hooked directly to the PC there is a "link", so pretty sure its the router and not the modem.
