I currently have a couple of 6509 chassis (router/switches) with the following hardware blades:
x3 48 ports x1 NAM x2 Sup720 Running 12.2(18)SXF3
I am keeping the four Sup720 modules and have purchased new versions of the others blades including two new 6509-E chassis? Can I take my stand-by Sup720 out of the production machine and insert it into the new chassis?

One of the pur client want to use Cisco 6509 as core Router. STM Module they want to install in it and used as Core Routing through it. Is it ok with core network ?
I am trying to determine a problem with flapping interface on a router not showing up in log buffer if Cisco IOS. I've included the config on the switch that pertains to the logging and can't seem to figure what is going on. The SNMP trap is being sent to our Central Management trap server and that is reporting the interface flapping but the flap doesn't show up in the log messages.

I have a duplicate router ID problem that is confusing to me. A 6509 and 4510 swich both show the same router ID, but only the 6500 has the router ID IP address configured in it. We are running EIGPR. The 6509 has L0 as 164.72.239.1 configured, which is it's router ID. The 4510 doesn't have 164.72.239.1 configured on it, yet that's what it's router ID is. Below are a few show commands displaying this - and as you can see from the 'show run | include 239' from the 4510 there is no 164.72.239.1 configured on it:
6509 chassis
interface Loopback0ip address 164.72.239.1 255.255.255.255end RS6509-Core-A#sh ip eigrp topIP-EIGRP Topology Table for AS(1)/ID(164.72.239.1) Codes: P - Passive, A - Active, U - Update, Q - Query, R - Reply, r - reply Status, s -
[Code].....
why the 4510 has that router ID?
I know I can configure a different router ID on the 4510, but I'm curious as to why it is the way it is.
I need to setup a vlan between the 6509 and 2621 router. This needs to be a VLAN (200) the runs between the devices that uses DOT1Q trunking. The end result is all the networks (vlans) on the 6509 can talk to the LAN on the 2600 (10.133.22.0 / 23) and visa versa.
Device 1 6509 with CatOS / IOS Config I did on the MSFC: Interface Vlan 200 ip address 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.248
I got an invalid input message when I typed "ip routing". Is this the expected result? Does the 6509-E with Sup 720 and FWSM support "ip routing" command?
Version: 12.2(18)SXF5. FWSM version: 3.1(4)
I have some routing problems between the switch and the fwsm.
switch(config)#ip routing ^ % Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
I have searched the internet until my battery died. How to fix dribbles. If not, why have a counter for them. I have a 4506 one fiber hop away from a 6509 and I am getting dribbles
What i m achiving by VSS the same i use to achieve before with 2 redundant core switches, By flowing half vlan's from 1 switch and other half by another core and specifying HSRP priority according to spaning-tree vlan flow, either of them goes other core takesover
I am trying to change SNMPv2 community string on 6509 remotely, without using expect script. I tried EEM applet (we cannot use TCL scripts), but it does not work. EEM command "action 10 info snmp oid 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.4 get-type exact" is supposed to store the result into an environment variable. It does not. Or at least not in the one that is documented. Is it a bug? We have IOS 12.2(17r)SX5. To get EEM version i ran "sh event manager version" and got "eem: (v240_throttle) 2.21.32". Does it mean i have EEM version 2.21?
I have a second link being installed this week to a second ISP. Each ISP has tunnels that terminate on there routers for various services. Right now on the 6509 I have a static default route which sends all traffic to ISP one. Once I get the second link installed I would only like to send specific traffic to ISP1 and everything else to ISP2 unless the link is down. Would policy routing on the 6509 fit my needs?I would like to send 172.20.0.0 / 24 and 10.25.0.0 to isp one and everything else to ISP2.
If two (one 6509A 9/26 with server A located in A end, 6509B with serverB located in B End) which is connected via a 1G link. If there is serverA send 700M file to server B via a 1G link. If I configured below command to 6509A 9/26, can I limit the bandwidth of server on bothincoming and outgoing to 500M?

Is it possible to tunnel IPSec through a 6509 with an FWSM installed without the packets being interferred with?My question arises because myself and a colleague were attempting to form an IPSec tunnel in just this environment last week and no amount of resetting policies, key phrases etc would allow the tunnel to come up. The 2821 was complaining about Phase 2 not matching but the policies were definitely matching and configured the same on both ends. If there shouldn't be an issue with the 6509 and the FWSM then I will post configs from both ends. The 6509 is configured to all all ports through for the two IP addresses for now and is performing a one-to-one NAT for the PIX that is behind it.
I have recently connected a 10 Gig connection from the local telco between two sites on 6509's. These two sites also have a 1 Gig links between them. When I connected the 10 Gig link I expected the 10 gig link to be the preferred route, but after looking at the routes I noticed that both links have the same EIGRP path cost. Also the minimum BW for both links is 1000000Kb or 1Gb. Why?
I would like more information of performance to 7600 router with the SP-720, how many sessions full bgp routing it supports? I have 4 links 1 GB and a throughput of 900 MB.
I am trying to setup Netflow to identify a problem I am having with a video conferencing system. Here are the commands that I have entered into the 6509 I am working on. I have checked this against another 6509 I have and these match. Not able to get netflow to show up on the solarwinds server. I have configured it to accept the netflow source coming from the 6509 I am working on.
ip flow-export version 9 ip flow-export destination 1.1.1.1 2055 ip flow-export sourc vlan 254
We are trying to test ios upgrade for Cisco 6509 switch with issu (in service software upgrade). We were able to upgrade the ios but there is one issue in issue 6509's supviseengine720 gigabit port lost the connection during the upgrade process.
I have a 6509 on my network and also have LMS4.1 for management. My 6509 is listed in my lms as a device. The config is in LMS. But I am not getting any syslog messages in LMS for my 6509. I have logging turned on and I have my LMS server listed in the config using the logging IP address command. What could be missing that would prevent the syslog messages from showing up in LMS. I have other devices that send syslog messages fine.
Is there a limitation to the amount of sub-interfaces that can exist on a Cisco 6509? The switch has WS-SUP720-3B (Sup card), WS-X6724-SFP (linecard), and 12.2(33)SXH7 (IOS).
I have two switches: Nexus 3064 (ver 5.0(3)U1(2)) and Cisco 6509.The 6509:
1 x WS-x6708-10GE 8 port Ten Gig module version 3.5, firmware 12.2(18r)S1. 2 x sup 720's, with PFC3A. 2 x WS-x6348-rj-45 4 x WS-x6748-ge-tx
The IOS is ipservicesk9-mz 12.2(33)SXH8b.Both switches have been running fine for quite a while(not connected to each other). I then ran a fiber connection between port Nexus:1/48 and 6509:Te9/1.When I ping (of any packet size) from the Nexus to the 6509 @172.19.4.254, the 6509's CPU goes to 100%. On occasion, we will get 1 out of 20 packets back in the reply.I reduced the MTU size on the three 6509 parameters until the CPU stopped going 100%.The magic number is 4175 bytes. 4176 and higher == 100% CPU.I am willing to put the fiber link to 1500, but how does one change that for just one port on the Nexus? I tried and it refuses to set the mtu. I also tried to setup a new service-policy but that didn't seem to work either. The Nexus users are all jumbo frame users. The users on the 6509 are all 1500 byte frame users, except for one user on a 1 gig port (ws-6748-ge-tx) line card. It is this user whom would like jumbos.
boot system flash bootflash:s72033-jk9o3sv-mz.122-17a.SX3.bin boot bootldr sup-bootflash:s72033-psv-mz.122-17a.SX1.bin
I downloaded s72033-mp001-pz.122-33.SXH5
I read the documentation on Upgrading Software Images on Catalyst 6000/6500 Series SwitchesURL
I was wondering do I copy the s72033-mp001-pz.122-33.SXH5 to the sup-bootflash and bootflash? In the example it also uses disk0: but I get a <No device available>. Also keep in mind we're upgrading the application and maintanence partitions also. So this is a big upgrade and I've never done this before.
I guess the 2 things I want to know is:
1) Can I copy the s72033-mp001-pz.122-33.SXH5 to both the sup-bootflash and the bootflash? Can I run it just copying it to the sup-bootflash? 2) It was my understanding that I only needed one image file for the upgrade but the documentation says I need "a. the main software image b. the bootloader image" Do I need another file? I'm a little confused. I did notice the files had different names and sizes and so do the ones on my current Sup 720.
And we are doing this tomorrow and I just happened to be reviewing the documentation one more time and somehow missed this.
Have a new 6509-E router with 2 sup2T blades. However it came with IPbase and we need to put Ipservices on it. I have copied ipservices IOS to bootdisk and slavebootdisk.
However I cannot get get to the boot command to point to bootdisk. It only allows me to point to flash:
)#boot system flash ? WORD System image filename <cr>
Yet I don't seem to have an option to copy this new IOS to flash. How do I get to copy it to flash:
Here is the original show boot command:
sh boot BOOT variable = bootflash:s2t54-ipbasek9_npe-mz.SPA.150-1.SY1.bin,1; CONFIG_FILE variable =
We need to upgrade Ios in a 6509, the reason for we need to upgrade IOs is that we need implement the command xconnect in a interface. The current version of Ios not suport this comand.
How do we select the new IOS that suport this command?, ..we see a long list of IOS in the software download section of 6509, but not sure which one to choose..
I'm planning to implement a VSS system with two 6509 and VS-S720-10G supervisor engines. In technical specifications is said that this card can support up to 1024 VRFs. Is this limit the same when working in VSS?
We acquired recentlty a new Cisco 6509 with Sup-2T supervisor card
My question is the following : we have a management subnet on a Copper-based switch; we manage all equipments through this network. I planned to configure the management interface on the 6509 to connect this switch & monitor the VSS through it However, since it is a CMP interface, most of the actions (SNMP, IOS upgrade.. won't be possible through this link) Moreover, I don't think LMS would be able to get the configuration through it (except by configuring a script running "attach" command & show run
Is there something I miss or must I add another interface of the Catalyst to this network (the problem being that I have no copper line card)
I have a 6509 with SUP2 w/msfc2 at home, I am currently have dsl for internet with static IP addresses. Due to AT&T not wanting to support faster speeds in my area, I have to look at another option. All of these will be dynamic IP addresses, cable, uverse, etc.
I need to be able to enable dhcp on the wan interface so I can connect directly into one of the gig ports (either on SUP2 or 6316) or on a 10/100 port on a 6348.
I have the following image installed s222-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF13.bin, according to Cisco's feature tool, it is supported.
I have tried "ip address dhcp" on the interfaces but they will only accept "ip address x.x.x.x", I looked at "ip dhcp" as well and only get the option for "relay".
I would hate to have to put something else in the mix to handle the dhcp portion. I may be keeping the adsl for my mail server traffic and backup in case of an outage on the new provider. So I need to be able to track if a link is up.
