Cisco Wireless :: 802.11ac Wave2 AP Connection To Switch
Sep 4, 2012
When Cisco releases its 802.11ac Wave2 wireless access points how are they planning on connecting them to the cisco switches? Will the wireless access points be using fiber to connect back to switches so it can support greater than 1G (for example a 10G Module on a 3750) or will the wireless access points have multiple copper interfaces so ether channeling can be used going back to the switch? If fiber do we give up POE?

I noticed that the 3600 access point series will get an add-on module to support 802.11ac. This standard will support more than 1 GBit/s.But the 3600 series still do only have got one GBit port. Any extended information about 802.11ac in the upcoming Cisco portfolio?

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TL-WDR4900
Hardware Version : Not Clear
Firmware Version : 3.13.29 B 130126 R 50426n
ISP : Comcast
1. Any device which is switched off (WiFi turned off) wont be able to connect again without a router reboot. I get a connection timeout error when trying to connect. Happens only when there are more than 3 devices connected. (all my devices are ARP linked to MAC addresses with fixed IP addresses - I thought this would eleminate the problem but not)
2. Streaming videos stop playing after 5 minutes. I have to click on the play button to start the stream again. When I test the internet speed through speedtest.net or speedtest.comcast.net, I get over 40MBPS consistently.
3. The router doesnt recogonize 3TB or above HDDs on either ports
4. As long as all devices connect to one channel (either 5G or 2.4G), the connectivity speed is excellent. The moment a device connects to the other channel, the connection speed fluctuates a lot on both.

If I plug an 802.11ac USB WiFi adapter into a wireless router like an Apple Airport Extreme, can the wireless router use that WiFi adapter and then be be able to use the 802.11ac WiFi standard in addition to the WiFi standards it can already use?

I know that N operates on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, whereas AC operates only on 5Ghz. Yet many AC routers advertise as operating on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. So what happens when you connect to an AC access point on 2.4Ghz? Does that operate using 802.11n?
What happens when you try to connect to an 802.11ac access point using an 802.11n client on 5Ghz? Is this possible, or are legacy connections only possible at 2.4Ghz?
I have a Netgear WNDR4500 (802.11n, dual band) currently that I am very happy with. I figure I will eventually switch over to AC. I'm trying to determine if I would be better off simply replacing the N unit with an AC unit, or running both (perhaps WNDR4500 to handle 2.4Ghz clients, AC access point to handle 5Ghz clients, or similar).

Current network configuration is as follows:Internet -> Router -> 24port Switch (main switch)I have seven network segments, connected to the main switch via 8port switches.Just to clarify, all the segments are in the same subnet. One of the segment, has a wireless N router connected to the 8p switch. The wireless router, actually functions as a wireless switch rather than performing any routing.Occasionally, the segment with the wireless looses network connectivity. When it looses connectivity, the wireless stops broadcasting and the computers connected to the 8p switch (not the wireless) cannot browse the network shares nor ping the computer in that same segment. All we could conclude from this, was that the wireless router somehow crashed and started jamming the switch, preventing anybody from connecting to the switch.

Windows 7 with wireless adaptor connection
I switched to Win. 7, because XP getting slow in general. I've using the brand new Netgear wireless adaptor on Win.7 while the older wireless adaptor is still on XP, but I never use XP after switch to Win.7.
On XP, Wireless connection had no issue at all, however on Win.7, the wireless connection often saying 'not service available' at the right bottom corner.
On XP, Netgear was 150 and Win 7 is 300.
Just wonder whether I should take off the wireless-adaptor from the XP if that would work to boost the wireless connection on Win.7?

I have inherited a 6509 VSS switch system as the network core and have the task of ensuring proper redundancy and redesign of the directly connected data center devices. One of the connected devices (WLC 4402) physically appears to be connected to both switches - the WLC is in the same rack as VSS-Chassis1 so I can trace the fiber from WLC port 1 to gi1/1/22, the other fiber from the WLC port 2 goes into the floor and presumably over to VSS-Chassis2 gi2/1/22 (there is fiber connected there, I have link lights on both sides, and the port channel, Po200, on the VSS switch which is configured on gi1/1/22 is also configured on gi2/1/22). My question pertains to the CDP neighbor output I get on the VSS switch: (truncated to include just the WLC) [code]
So my question, arising at least partly from the apparently misleading CDP information, is this: How can I confirm that the WLC is correctly dual homed to both core switches? (short of tracing the cable) I ask because there are several other devices (not WLCs) that need to have the dual homed connections confirmed.I tried a layer 2 trace route but for all macs associated with the WLC, the trace abborts with the error "Device has Multiple CDP neighbours on destination port."

Hard wired network (15 workstations.) I had a dsl modem connected to my network switch and linksys wrt54gs router connected to that modem. All hard wired workstations had internet access AND there was a wireless internet connection. With any wifi device I could access the internet.I switched from dsl to comcast. All hard wired work stations still have internet. but when I plug my wireless router into the modem (comcast business IP gateway) there is no wireless internet connection. The hard wired workstations can still get online and there IS a wireless network, but it does not allow internet access (page cannot be found etc.)
Comcast says it absolutely should work. Linksys says it requires simple reconfig of router settings (reset router, clone mac address.) I have read knowledge base articles from linksys and followed each step. The lan ports of the modem are all working if I connect to them directly with a laptop and cable. I have reset router multiple times, cloned mac address, dhcp release/renew.
My physical connections are correct. In the router set up utility, I can see the mac adrdress and ip address but can't tell if the IP is from the modem or the router. Default gateway is always 192.168.1.1 in the router AND in any workstation ipconfig screen. Ip addresses are 192.168.1.xx in ipconfig at any workstation AND in the router set up status.
I cannot access internet via router even if plugged directly into it. It is as if the router is not getting the correct information from the modem. However, it worked perfectly with the DSL modem the day before we changed. My workstations are all hard wired and work. I simply want to have Wi-Fi also... for phones and laptops w wireless etc.

I have a cable modem wired to an 8-port switch with each of the ports wired to an ethernet jack in the house. I have a wireless router connected to one of the jacks and have no problems with wireless internet access. However, if I connect my PC [running Windows 7 Home Premium] to any of the ethernet wall jacks, I cannot get an internet connection. If I connect the PC to a port on the wireless router, I get an internet connection.I can connect the wireless router to a different wall jack and everything remains the same as described above.

For only $7.91 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 8 Port 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Switch | Network Switches/This is my modem/ router given by Verizon FIOS: Westell A90-9100EM15-10..All of the cables I am using have been tested and work. All of my devices (PC, Laptop, PS3, Xbox 360) work when plugged directly into the router. Wireless works fine, but I want as many devices as I can to be wired and using the other ports on the router are not an option.I plug the cable from the router to the switch's Port 1 and then plug devices in and none of them work. The switch does not have a designated "In" port. Just Port 1-8. The reviews on Monoproce say that others were able to do exactly as I am doing with no setup required.I have tried plugging them in one by one and none work. The laptop and PC cannot connect to the router via 192.168.1.1 as they normally do. Also it registers as "Unidentified Network." [code]

Here is my configuration. My new DIR-601 router is connected this way. Wan port to Isp modem, LanP1 to a Win7 Pc1, LanP2 to a Linksys router, DHCP diisable using the 4 LAN ports as a switch in wich 2 Pc are connected 1) Win Xp PC2 and 2) Ubuntu 10.04 PC3.
The problem is , I can not access internet behind the telesyn switch, PC2 and PC3 have no access to Html servers on the Wan, except if I define PC2 or PC3 , only 1 allowed at a time, as DMZ. If I plug PC2 or PC3 directly in DIR-601 port everything is ok.
Why DIR601 port connected to a switch does not work the same way than conected to a PC. Any solution to give Internet access to PC behind a switch ?
NB: This work if I replace DIR601 with DIR620 router.

Our ASA 5510 is running 8.0(5). We recently upgraded the license from base to security plus. By doing so the capacity of the the external port Ethernet0/0 and Ethernet0/1 should increase from the original FE to GE. But, we were still seeing 100 Mbps on our Ethernet0/0 interface. We figured that out that the provider switch is only supporting 100 Mbps which is a bottleneck for us.The provider will be upgrading there switches to 1 Gb switch.
We will have to swap the switch connections now from 100 Mbps to 1 Gb switch. What commands should we be familar ourself with?Though this will be doine in our maintenace window. All the transaltions/connections will be dropped in our production environment so we are kind of scared.

About 4 months ago or so I had what I though was a firewall problem, tuned out to be two bad switches or so I thought. I replaced the switches with 3 com switches and everything seemed fine. Until Monday, my network was down again I though because I had a patch cable plugged into the same switch because when I took that patch cable out of the picture and reboot the switches everything seemed good. Then Tuesday I installed a new Cisco 2960 to relieve some of the stress on a switch. Then I plugged in another 2960 and started checking out the network assistant and monitoring tools but every time I clicked refresh or just clicked on the newer of the two 2960s the network connection would bounce? Now today the switch that had been in production the 3com just started to bounce its connection on and off ? I had to plug everything into the new 2960 and unplug the 2nd 2960 to keep the network stable, well its only been about a half an hour.
Are the switch trying to sync speeds with each other?

where all the rooms have a single internet connection. Apparently, we aren't allowed to connect more than one network device at a time and the MAC address of the device is registered. I know that setting up a router won't probably work, but what if I use a hub or switch? According to my limited knowledge, these are a little less intelligent devices that could make this doable, but how?...Or could I maybe connect to internet through the main PC?? I really want to connect another laptop in my room..

Im having a ACT Broadband internet connection, he provides internet connection through a wire which runs into my room that can be directly connected to the my computers NIC. Whenever i switch on my computer and opens the browser it first redirects to the page url... where it asks for Username & Password, our ISP gives us a IP Address which displays on the web page after logging in.I want the internet connection to be shared with my roommates so i bought a 8 port Ethernet switch (url..), which is having a uplink port also. I have connected the wire given by the ISP to the up link port of the switch & i connected my PC to one port of the switch with another network cable. I also connected my friends PC to second port of switch with another network cable, my problem is that when i sign into my ISP web page and start using the internet & my friend also wants internet in his PC & when he opens the browser the ISP's webpage is appearing and when he sign's in internet is disconnecting in my Pc. I tried to change the IP but as a default IP is given by the ISP if change the IP internet is not working.

I have been using a linksys 5 port workgroup switch in my room. I have the ethernet cable coming from the router into the uplink port and my PS3, xbox, dvr, and pc in the other ports. It has been working fine until today I started messing around the the cables. I had trouble with the ps3 connecting to the internet so I used my laptop with wifi disabled to test out a few of the cables and ports. Now all of a sudden the switch kills the internet connection. If I remove the cable running to my room from the main router, the other PCs and wireless will connect, but as soon I plug myself up it goes dead. I now have the ethernet cable in my room hooked directly to the PC bypassing the switch and everything works fine now.

i have an OM1 MMF fiber run between two switches, the first being a 3750 and the second being a 3550.
The link currently exceeds the maximum distance for OM1 @ 1000Mb/s (220m) so i would like to downgrade the link to 100FX using the necessary SFP's/GBIC's to extend the maximum distance to 550m and run the link @ 100Mb/s.
I have the part code for the 100FX SFP to install in the 3750 (GLC-GE-100FX) but cant find a 100FX GBIC for the 3550, can I use a 1000SX GBIC (WS-G5484) for the 3550 at one end and the 100FX SFP at the other? Any success with this configuration over MMF?

Currently in our environment we have have two buildings with an ASA 5520 in each and a core stack of 3750's in each building. I am currently working on a network segmentation project and am thinking of adding another stack of 3750's in each building to add more redundancy to our network. This will allow our access layer switches to have a trunk to each stack and prevent an outage if one of the links or stacks were to go down.
My question is how I would set this up on the ASA end of things while using a common subnet and HSRP on the 3750's. I understand how to use HSRP and STP on the switches to achieve this on the 3750 end of things. I saw you can do etherchannel on the ASA with 8.4 but how does that work in a failover situation?

I am relatively good at installing and troubleshooting smaller sized networks... I am having trouble with one of my customer's networks and I think I have the problem narrowed down. r issues.I have a customer with a FS726T switch and ~20 computers connected to this switch running DHCP assigned addresses. The switch is assigning addresses in the 10.0.0.xx rangehe customer currently has an old T1 line coming into a Cisco router, which then directs traffic to port 20 on the switch. The problem is, we are replacing the old T1 line with a newer 50mbps cable connection. The cable company pre-configured their router with a static IP address the 68.116.xx.xx range. The Subnet is also different than the Netgear's subnet. I would like to keep the old T1 connection in place. I believe they have data that needs to go to their mainframe/backbone server at corporate.
I cannot log in to the cable modem. IT is an SMC SMCD3G with a staic IP. I tried changing my PC's IP address to the same gateway but cannot get into the cable company's modem, even using a static IP with the same gateway as the modem's gateway address. I don't want to reset the modem/router and lose the cable company's settings.I am pretty sure for the devices to communicate, the following has to be true?:1) Cable modem and FS726T must be on the same 10.0.0.xx IP range?2) Cable modem and FS726T must be on the same 255.255.255.0 subnet mask?

I have a problem with my switch. The model no. of the switch is as follows:
Linksys SRW2048 10/100/1000 48 Ports
Serial No: RJT00GC00395 GGR2906 MM
1. I am creating a home computer lab. I do have 3 servers HP ProLiant DL 385 G1. Two of them have 6 gigabit ports where as the third server has 2 gigabit ports.
2. Installed ESXi 5.1 on two servers where as installed FreeNAS on the third server and configured it as iSCSI storage and NFS storage.
Problem:
1. Every port works perfectly fine. However, when I keep connecting the ports of the switch to the ports of servers, internet gets disconnected.
2. Interestingly, my wireless internet also gets disconnected, the ports of the switch does not have any internet now.
3. This happens till I connect above 8-9 ports of the switch to the servers.
3. However, when I remove the connection between the switch and the servers, internet comes, wireless internet starts working; and the port of the switch also gets internet connection when I check the internet connection of the individual ports one at a time.
Some more information:i do have internet service provided by Time Warner Cable. My internet speed is as follows:
Download Speed: Up to 15 Mbps
Upload Speed: Up to 1 Mbps
I do have a modem *** router by Motorola which has 4 gigabit ports.Model no: Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 i am assuming it is some thing related to bandwidth of the internet.

Also - what is the best way to connect to the console using Windows 7?
