Cisco Wireless :: AIR-LAP1131G-E-K9 / Client Not Associating With Strongest AP?
Dec 20, 2009
AP = AIR-LAP1131G-E-K9
WLC = WS-C3750G-24WS-S25
Total 6 floors building, 2AP on each floor.Problem Statement:- Eg: Wireless Clients from ground floor are associating with AP on the 3rd floor. This happens throughout the whole building.I would expect that ground floor clients would be connected to ground floor AP.Is there a way to force clients on specific floors to connect to their designated floor APs?A thorough check indicate that, ground floor AP is not congested and only a few clients are connected to it.

We have 9 WLCs around a corporate network. Each of the WLCs was in the same mobility group for failover purposes, and to permit APs to reconnect back to their primary WLC in the event of a failover.
However one of the sites has now been sold and pending separation of the LAN infrastructure the APs need to be isolated and prevented from associating with any WLC other than their primary (on site). From our experience once the APs know about other WLCs they retain this list in NVRAM even if the secondary WLC is removed from the configuration they will still associate with one of the known APs if possible (Cisco document this). WLC v 8.1.185.

We have a Cisco 5508 controller with 1142 LWAP's running version 7.4.100.We have several Dell laptops which will not associate to the access point UNLESS you stand directly underneath it, power off the wireless, turn it back on then eventually the PC will associate to the AP.Once the PC is associated to the AP and user is authenticated then all is well.
Have tried updating the wireless drivers downloaded from both Dell or INTEL. This does not happen to all of our laptops. However, without making any changes to the WLC or the PC's, we have begun to expirence this problem with laptop which previously did not have this issue.

At the present, we have two WLCs (5508). There are a total of 84 LAPs (1242AG). One controller is configured as the master controller in which all our APs associate to. It's currently running software version 7.0.116.0 and some of our BYODs using Windows 8 are unable to connect to the wireless. The fix for this is to upgrade the software of the WLC so that the LAPs can obtain the update to solve this problem. Simple! However, before rolling this out into the production wireless network, I would like to test it out on our second WLC which has no LAP associations, a test WLAN configured, and a newer software image loaded (7.4.100.0). I have a spare LAP that was previously associated with the master controller running the same software version (7.0.116.0). What I'm looking to do is associate this LAP to the 2nd WLC instead of the master so that I can ensure that the LAP gets the newest software. Then, I would like to test a Windows 8 device to make sure it connects. So far, I have done the following:
1. Disabled the 1st WLC from using Master Controller Mode and rebooted AP - result was unsuccessful; still associated to 1st WLC.
2. Reset LAP configuration excluding static IP info and reset AP - result was unsuccessful; still associated to 1st WLC.
3. Compared config for both WLC but since I'm new to these devices, I'm not sure what needs to be configured/changed.

I have a setup involving 3 clustered AP541 running off a sg300 switch. The wireless network setup VAP has one entry for vlan 1 with station isolation disabled. Is there anything more I need to do to allow one wireless client to ping another wireless client - am I missing something - i assume this is possible.Needless to say wireless clients can ping non wireless clients and vice versa quite happily. Everything is running with factory default settings more or less.

i have a question about tunneling a software EasyVPN client to a client ASA Network. It looks like this:
EasyVPN Server 192.168.202.0/24 Network extension mode to Client EasyVPN ASA 192.168.1.0/24 This works fine in both directions. But now i want to connect the client ASA network via EasyVPN software client from outside. The user are already able to connect to the ASA Server on its static outside IP obtaining an IP from a 192.168.21.0/24 pool. This works fine. But how am i able to connect to the 192.168.1.0/24 network from this client?

Do the problem caused by the modems itself or it just sign of faulty Ethernet switch (using 20 port Allied Telesis ethernet switch).
Sometimes I cannot connect to internet due to "unidentified network" buy i can resolve this problem by restarting my modem + switch.

1) Why this box have been working correctly for longtime? No one did diable/enable this feature on my box.
2) I guest, ver7.0 Disables this chechbox by default. Or not? I also have others two 7.2 boxes. Those are all Enabled.

I need an AP that can run in client bridge mode. By that I mean a device that can be connected to a PC via the ethernet cable and provide wireless access because these older devices don't have wireless network cards?I looked at the WAP321 but it just uses a wizard. I need a device with IOS so that the PSK keys can be encrypted when viewing. I need to have the config backed up and the PSK can't be in clear text.

Our scenario requires some customization in Wireless network. We have moving Forklift machines fitted with network devices. The network device in forklift acts as a client. But it doesn't have a wireless adapter and no provisions to add a wireless adapter. There is one ethernet port.
So we have a plan to attach one AP(1262) to each forklift. this AP needs to talk to the AP whcih is connected to Wired network. The network deivce in the forklift need to talk to the root AP(1262) through the AP directly connected to it over Ethernet.

I know that I can look at the client tab under WCS home page and see the top 5 APs by client count on real time.In our environment we have around 700 APs and would like to know by having this kind of report which APs are mostly hit ?

I have a small CCENT/CCNA lab with a few switches and routers which I would like to connect to my D-link home router so that it can access the outside world. I have an 877W which I believe is supposed to be able to connect to a wifi network as a client.
I have seen reference to configuring a bridge but this is something outside of my current understanding. The idea is to have the 877W with it's wireless interface connected to my wireless network and the Lab connected to the 877's intergrated switch, using the 877 as a basic router connecting the two networks. I've scoured Google and put together a configuration using what I could find in forum posts and Cisco documentation. The D-link is set up for auto WPA/WPA2 Personal (TKIP or AES). I'm using an ASCII key with an update interval of 0. I've never had a problem with other devices trying to connecting to it.
At the moment the 877W seems to connect to the D-link but then lose it's association, from what I can see it looks like the 877 is trying to rotate the key? Once this happens my laptop loses it's wireless connection and I need to reboot the D-link to get it back. Interestingly the Windows 7 network icon shows three computers with a link between each as the network icon when this happens. It's as if the 877W acts as a Rogue access point and steals my client's connection. On one attempt the debug output showed the 877 geting an IP address from the D-link's DHCP so it does seem to connect initially.
Config and debug output are below.
Config:
!dot11 ssid MYSSIDauthentication openauthentication key-management wpainfrastructure-ssidwpa-psk ascii 7 MYWPAKEY
!interface Dot11Radio0ip address dhcpshutdown!encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm

For the past week, I've been looking to implement wireless technology at our educational site. We've conducted some tests with an AP1200 and we were satisfied with the performances of 802.11a standards.
Since one of our requirements is bandwidth, we are looking to implement a 802.11g standard for that need. Unfortunately, Cisco does not offer any client access adapter for that 11g standard as opposed of the competition. What kind of client adapter (PCMCIA) can Cisco recommend to work with AP1200 under the 802.11g ?

Im making a design for a customer that will have around 200 wireless users.
We were thinking in the WLC 2500, because the number of APs will be around 30.
But the problem is that from time to time, the client organizes events, and in these events the number of wireless clients will be around 600.
In the WLC2500 specs te maximun numbers of users is 500, but i want to know if this is just a recomendation, of if the WLC will drop the connection attemp # 501.

I currently have two 541N access-points slightly overlapping eaching other and my clients appear to connect to the further AP most often. They are setup in a cluster, but that appears to just provide configuration synchronization. Short of purchasing a wireless controller which would appear to be overkill, is there any way to manage client connections between the two AP's?

I am seeing a lot of client has joined profile XXX in the logs, and the customer has been saying the PC's are dropping constantly and take up to 5 minutes to reconnect.
I found a lot of Auth flood signiture hits, and disabled the signature as a temp test. I also had one WPA WIC error on one AP. The Auth sig was deteced on several AP's at one time.
Now the question, is it normal to see Clients joining like this, and does the auth flood disable the AP for a short period?

I have had an e4200 for about a month now and its been pretty good. But I have noticed that it completely locks up when I go to copy mass amounts of data through it. I have a NAS drive plugged into it and my laptop is on the 2.4 spectrum. I went to transfer 8gigs of data from laptop to NAS drive and the entire wireless portion of the router locks up. All my wireless clients drop and I have to unplug the router and plug it back in. Even the 5ghz clients drop as well. I have not tried hardwire, but the main reason I got this was for its throughput.

I would like to be able to pass traffic from the ethernet port to the root AP VIA the AP in client mode. The Ap in client mode shows the radio in blocking when in client mode, is this normal? Is there a way to manually change this to forwarding mode?
