Cisco :: Configure WPA Or WPA2 Authentication On 1042N Access Points?
Mar 12, 2012I need to configure WPA or WPA2 authentication on cisco 1042N access points. But I believe that for this requirement I need to have either an internal or external RADIUS server, but my customer want to just a normal WPA/WPA2 authentication like what we configure on cisco WAP200 or WAP4410 accesspoints, is there any work arounds to configure WPA/WPA2 authentication in a simpler manner rather than configuring RADIUS server option?

Scenario:
Location1:
1) 10.0.0.0/24
2)192.168.0.0/24 DMZ
Location 2:
1) 10.0.5.0
Both locations are routable using network 1 at each location. However, I need to configure several access points and send them to location 2. These access points will communicate with the controller at location 1 on network 1. Two SSIDs will need to be on network 1 at location 1. The other SSID will be on Network 2 at location 1. This network is not routable.

May 2, 2012We are deploying 3600 AP's with a 2504 and would like to create multiple SSID's that are mapped to unique VLANs so we can control the traffic at the Firewall. We have the 2504 up and running with AP's but there appears to be no where in the 2504 controller Web GUI to configure a VLAN mapping to an SSID. Any pointers to documentation on how to configure?

Nov 28, 2012I have a client with a WLC 2504 that wants to route "guest" users through a gateway appliance "radiusgateway.com" and all others through the network. It appears to me this would require the use of two fa ports on the WLC. One directly connected to the radiusgateway (which is connected to a switchport) and the other fa interface connected directly to a switchport bypassing the proxy server.
My issue is, "how do you segment the ssid traffic via the WLC". The interfaces cia the gui aren't that intelligent, there's an enable and logging drop down. Via the command line, I didn't see any methods of routing traffic.

Created 10 SSIDs for Different Networks. Would like to know if there is any possibility of Broadcasting say a particular SSID XYZ on only two or 3 Access Points and keep broadcast disabled on Others.

Oct 26, 2012I have WLC 2504 controller and six access points AIR-LAP1042N. I reading Cisco 2500 Series Wireless Controller Deployment Guide url...trying to set up along the lines.
It is also possible to have multiple AP-managers in a different subnet than the management interface. However, in this case, it is recommended that you disable the AP-manager from the management interface and create another AP-manager interface on different physical ports in a different subnet than the management interface. All multiple AP-managers in this scenario should be in the same subnet.
I maping management interface on physical port 1 and disabled ap-manager on it. Set up 192.168.7.0 subnet with non tagged vlan. This iface/port I want to use only for access to WLC web-interface. Then I create dynamic interface ‘dynamic1’, map him on port 2, enable ap-manager on him, and set up 192.168.110.0 subnet with vlan 10. Then I tryed map wlan1 to this iface, but I can’t because in the choice was only management iface to map wlan1.
There is three dynamic interfaces on same subnet and vlan, in example above. But when I try to add dynamic iface with the same vlan/subnet as an existing dynamic interface, I get an error, and can’t adding.

I am aware that the 2504 does not have wired guest functionality, however is it possible to set up a wired guest on the 5508 and using mobility anchors, transmit the l2 information through eoip to communicate with the remote vlan?Home built NAC solution, using 802.1x authentication on switchports for public areas. If user is an employee, communicates with the supplicant on their machine, and places them on an internal vlan.If user is a guest, user fails 802.1x check and is placed on a "guest" vlan with an ACL and external DNS.If placed on the guest vlan, the user has to accept a terms of use form.This is working currently with our 5508s without any issue, however we have some remote offices we'd like to roll this out to that are using 2504 controllers. I'm hoping there's a way that I can use the 5508 as an anchor or vice versa to make this work.

All the users connect to VLAN 350 and they get IP as required.However in our new set up there are couple of requirements have come up were in SSID will be the same however we have created many VLANs for different kind of user group and all these VLANs should be mapped to this single SSID and pick the IPs from their respective VLANs .
We have done configuration on the RADIUS server side were in we have mapped the users in their respective VLANs and they are getting authenticated via AD . Now how do i map my these 4-5 VLANs in a single SSID in Access Point.

The "guest mode" won't work for me because I want one SSID to use WPA and the other to use WEP, but the option to set different encryption based on the GHz frequency of the connection won't work for me because I only want the WEP one to be used by my Nintendo DS (which doesn't support WPA); I don't want to force ALL devices that don't support 5GHz to use the WEP one!

Apr 10, 2012We recently purchased a bundle of 3 1042N AP's with a 2106 WLC. I am able to get the controller on the network and am able to manage it through the https web gui. I am now trying to add one of the AP's to the controller and am getting an infinite loop on the AP upon bootup. I tried looking up the solution but could not find a good article that pertained to the problem I was having. One thing I did notice is the time on the AP is way offset, but when I do a clock set to change it to the actual date it doesnt stick on the next reload.

Jun 7, 2012I am installing a new Cisco AP1042N access point in our network but the maximum speed it broadcasts is 54Mbit(802.11G) and that should be 300Mbit(802.11N). Im also disappointed about the range. Im using it in a small office building with a few thin walls but when im about 20 meters away from this access point my signal strength is very poor (My €100 HP V-M200 AP does much better in the same environment).

Feb 16, 2012I have two WRT54GS routers. I want to extend my WiFi from the router connected to my upstream in the office to a second router in the living room. I want devices configured for the SSID and passphrase of my current WiFi (which is find in the office) to work seamlessly in the living room. I understand I can do this by running a cable and configuring router 2 as a client of router 1 with router 2 exposing the same SSID and passthrase on a different channel.
But I really don't want to run a cable.There is a point where a client can see router 1 where an AP would cover the living room.
Can I put router 2 at that point, have it connect wirelessly as a client to router 1, and have it expose as an AP using the same SSID and passphrase? Can this be done without wiring the router?

1. I have a 1042N AP configured as a Workgroup-Bridge attaching to a Lightweight Access Point.
2. LWAPP AP is on a 5508 series Controller.
3. I have MAC Authentication configured through an Ciso ACS box running 5.2 code. And that portion is working.
4. I want to lock this WGB down even further with a second layer of security. I am thinking WPA2 -AES.
Cisco Wireless :: 1042n AP Can't Get DHCP For Guest Network
Aug 6, 2012This is rattling my brain. I have configured 2 SSIDs, one for internal, one for guests. They are on seperate VLANs (50 and 51) and bridge groups (1 and 2). I can get IPs via DHCP for the internal network, but not for the guest. I can't get DHCP for any VLAN 51 sub-interface, nor clients that connect to it. The overall goal is to keep all traffic on the guest network seperate from the internal traffic, however, DHCP requests will be from an internal server. I have removed all the access-lists for troubleshooting purposes. AP and Switchport configs are below!

Cisco :: 2504 Configure Rogue Detector AP And Trunk Port?
Dec 14, 2012I'm using a 2504 controller. I dont have WCS.My questions are about the best way to configure a Rogue Detector AP.
In my lab environment I setup the WLC with 2 APs. One AP was in local mode, and I put the other in Rogue Detector mode.The Rogue Detector AP was connected to a trunk port on my switch. But the AP needed to get its IP address from the DHCP server running on the WLC. So I set the native vlan of the trunk port to be the vlan on which the WLC management interface resides. If the trunk port was not configured with a native vlan, the AP couldn't get an address through DHCP, nor could the AP communicate with the WLC. This makes sense because untagged traffic on the trunk port will be delivered to the native vlan. So I take it that the AP doesn't know how to tag frames.Everything looked like it was working ok.
So I connected an autonomous AP (to be used as the rogue), and associated a wireless client to it. Sure enough it showed up on the WLC as a rogue AP, but it didn't say that it was connected on the wire. From the rogue client I was able to successfully ping the management interface of the WLC.
But the WLC never actually reported the rogue AP as being connected to the wired network.So my questions are:
1. What is the correct configuration for the trunk port? Should it not be configured with a native vlan? If not, then I'm assuming the rogue detector AP will have to have a static IP address defined, and it would have to be told which vlan it's supposed to use to communicate with the WLC.
2. Assuming there is a rogue client associated with the rogue AP, how long should it reasonably take before it is determined that the rogue AP is connected to the wired network? I know this depends on if the rogue client is actually generating traffic, but in my lab environment I had the rogue client pinging the management interface of the WLC and still wasn't being picked up as an on-the-wire rogue.

I have buildings geographically dispersed that are configured with multiple vlans in interface groups so that I can maintain an addressing scheme of dhcp assigned addresses per building. Each building is also further grouped as AP groups. I'd like to know if by assigning the same wlan ssid to each of the AP groups, will I maintain addressing integrity for each building? I'm thinking it will work.
Do the buildings have to be outside AP range of each other to avoid problems?

Some printers also got an 0.0.0.0.Around 30% are not OK. also had the log: Impersonation of AP with Base Radio MAC 00:yy:yy:yy:yy:yyusing source address of 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx has been detected by the AP with MAC Address: 00:yy:yy:yy:yy:yy on its 802.11b/g radio whose slot ID is 0 The problem is, I cannot go to 7.2 version because I have 2 x AP 1231 and 2 x 1242 AP's.1231 AP's are not anymore supported in 7.2 Version.

Example:
AP 1 -> WLC 1

AP 3 -> WLC 1
Since the buildings also broadcast in different SSID. The two controllers are in a mobility group.
