Cisco Wireless :: Wap2000 Closing Ports After 10 Minutes Of Up Time

Mar 17, 2011

We have two WAP2000's in our offices which we roam between depending on which office we are in. Lets call them Access point A and Access point B.Both are firmware 2.0.4.0 and have seperate IP addresses. Both are set up with two SSID's and VLAN tagging. Both handle connections just fine and can route traffic. Both are PoE and the catalyst switch reports PoE util at 25% over all of its ports. After 10 minutes of uptime, Access point B will close all of its TCP ports - SNMP, Web admin etc but does still handle wireless connections and traffic correctly. Access point A does not close any ports.I have confirmed that when the problem happens, Access point B still handles traffic just fine by checking the MAC address the clients is associated with, as well as powering down Access point A and confirming traffic is flowing. Access point B will also respond to ICMP ping after it has closed all of its management ports. I have confirmed there is no other device on the network attempting to use the same IP address as Access point B.

I have also confirmed that I am attempting to access the management ports from the management Vlan (1) - else I would not be able to reach Access Point A's management ports either. I have turned wireless management access on for Access point B and the ports close after 10 minutes of uptime from the wireless side too, so highly unlikely this is a vlan issue.I have confirmed all of the settings (bar the IP address config) exactly match on both Access point A and Access point B. The firmware revisions are the same.

Oct 31, 2011

Our security department wants me to close tcp ports 2001,4001,6001 and 9001.  Below is part of my configuration

Interface Fastethernet0/0
IP address X.X.X.x
ip access-group control out

ip access-list extended control
deny tcp any any eq 2001
deny tcp any any eq 4001
deny tcp any any eq 6001
deny tcp any any eq 9001
permit any any

When they do a scan outside the company network is still shows up open.  I have tried both a ip access-group in and out and it never seems to hit the ACL.  The scan being done is on the f0/0 ip address.

Connection Drops For Five Minutes At A Time When Doing Certain Things

Jan 26, 2011

For some reason, certain activities, such as using Bittorrent and visiting specific sites, causes my connection to drop immediately. It stays down for five minutes, after which the connection is reestablished... but if the offending progam is still running or I try to refresh the site, it drops for another five minutes.I really need to know what is causing this, and how it can be avoided. It only started this last weekend (22/1, 2011), and my ISP says they have no problems on their end. I'm running Windows 7.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Browsing And Connecting To Device Closing Window?

Feb 9, 2011

Last week I purchased the E4200 and for simplicity, I configured it with basic settings using Cisco Connect. Today, I went into the web interface. The only thing I did was review settings and get the Routers PIN (it appears that Intel Chipset cards on Windows requires this PIN?)  Close the browser (did not save any settings) and now I am completely locked out of the device. Cannot connect does not accept the wireless password.  I hard reset the device, ran through the wizard. Everything was working again. Launch the browser and connected to the device closing window and balm?

Cisco Wireless :: Can't Access WAP2000 Web Console

Jan 3, 2011

We forgot the IP address of this WAP, and resetting the router doesn't take it to the default IP, no matter how I try to reset it.  The SSID (and WEP key) stays the same too, which makes me wonder if the reset button is even working. We can still connect computers wirelessly through it and have them access the internet.  Our issue is we need to change the SSID.  Right now it just connects people invisibly - it gives them IPs from the subnet it's attached to, and yet the various DHCP servers I've connected to never show it as having its own DHCP address.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP2000 Connection To Remote Office?

Mar 14, 2011

We have a WAP2000 that supports a few wireless users in a shop environment.  Users authenticate using RADIUS.  Users connect without issue and can browse the Internet.

The main local network uses a Cisco 800 router to connect to the Internet via DSL and there is an IPsec VPN tunnel to our main office.

When a user is connected to the network via a wired connection, all systems work as expected.  If they are on wireless,  they cannot connect to services at the main office. They must make a PPTP VPN connection for applications to function.

The WAP2000 has the latest firmware 2.0.4.0.  It has a static IP on the local subnet.

Cisco Wireless :: Illegal SSID Name With WAP2000 Firmware 2.0.4.0

Apr 18, 2011

Cisco has recently released firmware 2.0.4.0 for the WAP2000 wireless access point. This firmware has two annoying bugs in new JavaScript code which validates SSID names on the "Basic Wireless Settings" page.

First of all, this firmware does not allow SSID names to contain spaces, even though a space is a legal character in a SSID name!
Secondly, this firmware only allow the first SSID name to be 31 characters longs, even though the maximum allowed SSID name length is 32 (and the input field even allows 32 characters to be entered in the first place!)

If either case you will get an "Illegal SSID Name!" alert message (the developer could apparently not be bothered to make the message more specific and tell the user WHY the SSID name is supposedly illegal), and you will not be able to add additional SSIDs, or configure these existing SSID's on new access points that have this firmware.

The workaround is to revert back to firmware 2.0.0.5. You can upgrade to 2.0.4.0 after adding the "illegal" SSID names, they will remain after upgrading.

The new firmware does have an interesting new feature: it can download its configuration from a TFTP server (either through DHCP or by specifying the server), but I have not been able to find the documentation on how to get this working.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP2000 Work Smoothly As Repeater?

Jan 23, 2013

Our customer setup requires an outdoor WAP (the main WAP) and two wireless signal repeters (that will be WAP2000). The repeaters will be powered over the Ethernet only and will be connected to the same switch as the main WAP (unknown vendor). My question is:

Will a WAP2000 work smoothly as a repeater when it's powered over Ethernet only and connected to the same switch as the main WAP is?

I noticed that WAP2000 connected this way was sort of 'lost' in deciding to repeat a signal or work as an independent wireless access point. The problem was immediately removed once the repeater was disconnected from the switch and powered from an outlet. I am not sure whether it was wrong addressing setup or something else that was needed to check/uncheck.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP2000 Prone To Reset Automatically

I have a few questions about the Cisco WAP2000 we setup for our customers that I have experienced as of late.

1. The AP is prone to reset automatically; what causes the access point to do this and how can this be prevented?
2. The AP has the SSID and the encryption reset back to factory defaults, however the IP address does not get reset. What would cause this?
3. Is it possible to use 2 of the Cisco WAP2000 as a repeater to increase signal strength of another Cisco WAP2000 that has interference from another stronger signal?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 Real Time Logs Showing Incorrect Ports

Oct 17, 2012

I have an issue on an ASA 5510 that I have noticed today, when I am using the log viewer all of the information recorded only shows the high end source and destination ports.  For example

Source IP 10.10.4.69
Source Port 59886

Destination IP 8.8.8.8
Destination Port 59866

So what seems to be happening is that I am seeing only half of the connection in the log viewer, I see the side with the high end ports and not the side with the ports the application uses, this example was done with a ping. All my services are working correctly and the client sending the ping gets the response expected, it just seems I have lost the logging display?

Laptop Disconnects After Closing Lid?

Oct 29, 2012

there is a similar thread a few down that I saw. They suggested going into power management and disabling the shut down for network adapters. I did that and it didnt solve anything. So, on to my problem. It started a few days ago. Whenever I closed my laptop, put it into sleep, or hibernation, the connection to the wifi would be dropped and I would be forced to reconnect. I know it cant be my wifi because I did some tests at 3 separate locations and all resulted in the same effect. After closing my laptop, the wifi is dropped. I installed some updates from Microsoft. One in particular added the Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0. I doubt this did anything, but I figured I'd let you know. I would like to avoid have to re-install my OS and unfortunately my last back-up was a few months ago.

Lastly, my router has been doing something strange. Maybe a week ago, the signal radius seemed to have shrunk. I used to receive wifi all around my house, but now I only seem to get it when I am within 7 feet of my router. I updated the firmware. but the range is still small.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Closing Connection?

Jun 24, 2012

I'm trying to get an asa5505 set up so that our web server can send an LDAPS login to a client's server and receive the request back. The default IP our traffic goes out on is different than where I want the connection to come back in on. So, I set a NAT rule to send all traffic from a specific inside IP out a default outside IP. I also allowed LDAPS traffic from the client's server IP address in and have nat'd it back to the appropriate inside IP address. It seems to build the outbound connection fine, but then seems to drop it right away, which then seems to not allow the response back in. I've attached a picture of the log, with (what I think are) the lines in question highlighted. I'm far from a routing expert, but this seemed like a fairly easy setup.
