Cisco Wireless :: WAP2000 Admin Console Not Accessible?
Feb 13, 2011
I'm having an issue with our WAP2000 access point. I had to reset the access point and now I can't access the admin console. I've set a static IP address just as I did when I first set it up. Now when I browse to the 192.168.1.245 in my browser it just displays an Authentication error.

We forgot the IP address of this WAP, and resetting the router doesn't take it to the default IP, no matter how I try to reset it. The SSID (and WEP key) stays the same too, which makes me wonder if the reset button is even working. We can still connect computers wirelessly through it and have them access the internet. Our issue is we need to change the SSID. Right now it just connects people invisibly - it gives them IPs from the subnet it's attached to, and yet the various DHCP servers I've connected to never show it as having its own DHCP address.

I was trying to get into my router to give it a reboot yesterday, but was unable to get into the console. I used the username/password I've used for over a year (it was also auto saved) but it would not let me in. I went through all the steps to do a hard reset/restore default settings and it wouldn't let me. I had to access the boot loader to reload firmware, and that worked out just fine.
Now, I still cannot get access to the administration console with the default username (blank) and password (admin). I've tried moving my PC to ports 1-4 and none work.
I was about to give up on the router but I tried connecting from my iPhone and everything works just fine. I was even able to change my SSID and WPA key again.
Would this be a hardware issue, or could there be something in Windows 7 that's affecting it? I have disabled the windows firewall and AVG and still can't get any access from either Firefox or IE.
A couple of times I was able to get onto the first page of the console through IE, but if i tried clicking anything else it would ask for the username/password again and not connect. Now it won't even let me in once.

Our main ASA5510 is set up to failover to a second 5510, and is using the management port for that purpose. All of the other LAN ports are in use.
Currently we can manage the ASA using ASDM5.2 from and device on the LAN.
We are now going through PCI Compliance, and one of the vunerability scans has picked up the fact that the firewall appears to accept connections on SSL v2. However, if I try to set SSL to use v3 or TLS v1 only (as we don't use webVPN), I get a message that I will no longer be able to use ASDM to manage the firewall as changing to SSL v3 will 'prevent ASDM from establishing a secure connection with the ASA'
So does this mean that the ASA does use / accept SSL v2? The help files say that it will accept 'hellos' in v2 but will then try to negotiate to SSLv3 or TLS v1. It doesn't give more details about what happens next, but I would have assumed that if it can't negotiate to one of the later protocols it will drop the connection - is this correct? If that's the case I may be able to get PCI to accept it.
However, if this is not acceptiable and I have to switch to SSL v3, what options do I now have of administering the ASA through a GUI?

I am having intermittent problems with wireless connectivity to this router. It stops responding to requests completely but existing connections continue to function.
The hardwired connections also are functional but I cannot get to the admin console to see what is going on. The router is currently not being used to connect to the outside world. When it was before this situation still existed. I am using firmware version V2.0.1.3

Although I hasten to point out that I have owned and used an 'IBM' type PC since 1988 and have always managed to get things configured correctly until NOW!
Apart from the last time I tried to use a Linksys product. I had the WRVS4400N recommended to us by a friend as we run a small FTP server to share promotional materials amongst sales operatives around the world, wanted to protect it from intrusion and was told that a Cisco Linksys product with a VPN was the way to go.
I duly purchased a WRVS440N and have been trying to log into the admin console via both browsers (IE9 and Google Chrome) that are installed on a laptop running Win7 which in turn is the only thing connected to the stated device via ethernet port 1... I have tried accessing it via http://192.168.1.1 and have even tried a suggestion from another forum to try https://192.168.1.1 - this only results in my being told that the address does not have a trusted certificate and I even tried every suggested workaround...
I have tried all kinds of reset periods from 10 seconds to a minute, both hot and cold and each time the result is the same - I type in 'admin' and 'admin' in the appropriate boxes and the dialogue box continues to return to the browser window with empty fields...
The shame is that I have managed to re-flash a BT Voyager 190 ethernet modem successfully with DynaLink v3.29a firmware (which allows it to be used with any ISP besides AOL [for whom this modem was solely intended]) and can set it up as a DHCP server, non-DHCP with a single link to another server or non-DHCP and no link.... The point is the modem works... I'm using it right now to type this! We have a single static IP from our ISP and the BT modem is working just fine (as is the TP-Link wireless modem/router that the WRVS4400N was intended to replace)... there are other options in it's firmware for port forwarding, etc and I'm convinced that it wil be adequate for use in conjunction with the WRVS4400N.
I have to concede that the WRVS4400N was not sold to us as NIB; it was sold as re-conditioned and was shipped to or via Ingram Micro Distribution from Cisco Systems, Veldweg 3, Herkenbosch 6075 NL (Holland) via UPS on or about the 31st of July, 2012... there is a shipping label on the original packaging that tells me that so it has in fact been back to Cisco at some point and for some reason.

I have a linksys WRT120N connected to the internet, and I want to set up my WAP2000 as a repeater. I followed all instructions, same SSID, Security, Channel, etc (y left the IP by default, though) but devices connected to the WAP2000 don´t get an IP and can´t connect to the internet. I wanted to kno if the WRT120n´s signal can be repeated, and if so if I need to change any configuration parameter.

We have a WAP2000 that supports a few wireless users in a shop environment. Users authenticate using RADIUS. Users connect without issue and can browse the Internet.
The main local network uses a Cisco 800 router to connect to the Internet via DSL and there is an IPsec VPN tunnel to our main office.
When a user is connected to the network via a wired connection, all systems work as expected. If they are on wireless, they cannot connect to services at the main office. They must make a PPTP VPN connection for applications to function.
The WAP2000 has the latest firmware 2.0.4.0. It has a static IP on the local subnet.

I am doing support for a library that has 2 WAP2000 devices that have no security. These are for the patrons to connect to the internet at the library. They want to track how many people are connecting to the internet. Can I log how many computers connect to these access points or get another WAP that will track how many computers connect to the internet?

Cisco has recently released firmware 2.0.4.0 for the WAP2000 wireless access point. This firmware has two annoying bugs in new JavaScript code which validates SSID names on the "Basic Wireless Settings" page.
First of all, this firmware does not allow SSID names to contain spaces, even though a space is a legal character in a SSID name!
Secondly, this firmware only allow the first SSID name to be 31 characters longs, even though the maximum allowed SSID name length is 32 (and the input field even allows 32 characters to be entered in the first place!)
If either case you will get an "Illegal SSID Name!" alert message (the developer could apparently not be bothered to make the message more specific and tell the user WHY the SSID name is supposedly illegal), and you will not be able to add additional SSIDs, or configure these existing SSID's on new access points that have this firmware.
The workaround is to revert back to firmware 2.0.0.5. You can upgrade to 2.0.4.0 after adding the "illegal" SSID names, they will remain after upgrading.
The new firmware does have an interesting new feature: it can download its configuration from a TFTP server (either through DHCP or by specifying the server), but I have not been able to find the documentation on how to get this working.

Our customer setup requires an outdoor WAP (the main WAP) and two wireless signal repeters (that will be WAP2000). The repeaters will be powered over the Ethernet only and will be connected to the same switch as the main WAP (unknown vendor). My question is:
Will a WAP2000 work smoothly as a repeater when it's powered over Ethernet only and connected to the same switch as the main WAP is?
I noticed that WAP2000 connected this way was sort of 'lost' in deciding to repeat a signal or work as an independent wireless access point. The problem was immediately removed once the repeater was disconnected from the switch and powered from an outlet. I am not sure whether it was wrong addressing setup or something else that was needed to check/uncheck.

I have a few questions about the Cisco WAP2000 we setup for our customers that I have experienced as of late.
1. The AP is prone to reset automatically; what causes the access point to do this and how can this be prevented?
2. The AP has the SSID and the encryption reset back to factory defaults, however the IP address does not get reset. What would cause this?
3. Is it possible to use 2 of the Cisco WAP2000 as a repeater to increase signal strength of another Cisco WAP2000 that has interference from another stronger signal?

We have two WAP2000's in our offices which we roam between depending on which office we are in. Lets call them Access point A and Access point B.Both are firmware 2.0.4.0 and have seperate IP addresses. Both are set up with two SSID's and VLAN tagging. Both handle connections just fine and can route traffic. Both are PoE and the catalyst switch reports PoE util at 25% over all of its ports. After 10 minutes of uptime, Access point B will close all of its TCP ports - SNMP, Web admin etc but does still handle wireless connections and traffic correctly. Access point A does not close any ports.I have confirmed that when the problem happens, Access point B still handles traffic just fine by checking the MAC address the clients is associated with, as well as powering down Access point A and confirming traffic is flowing. Access point B will also respond to ICMP ping after it has closed all of its management ports. I have confirmed there is no other device on the network attempting to use the same IP address as Access point B.
I have also confirmed that I am attempting to access the management ports from the management Vlan (1) - else I would not be able to reach Access Point A's management ports either. I have turned wireless management access on for Access point B and the ports close after 10 minutes of uptime from the wireless side too, so highly unlikely this is a vlan issue.I have confirmed all of the settings (bar the IP address config) exactly match on both Access point A and Access point B. The firmware revisions are the same.

I have several WAP2000 (Firmware 2.0.0.5), and while they work fine for PC's, iPhones, iPod touches cannot connect to them.Well, they connect briefly, get an IP address from the router, and immediately drop the connection to re-connect again.I have tried changing channels, eliminating all but one of the AP's, and so forth. Any issues with this firmware? I see posts where people are saying their iPhones connect up fine. This happens on versions 3.x and 4.x of the iphone O.S. It's not limited to one iphone or ipod touch; we've tried several.

I have a rental property with 3 apartments that are sharing the same internet connection. The users are consistantly downloading more than their monthly allowance, and I would like to monitor how much data each apartment's users are downloading. My plan is to purchase a Cisco WAP2000 Access Point and configure 3 SSIDs (one for each apartment). I havent decided if each SSID is to be setup on it's own VLAN.
Will I be able to use SNMP to monitor the data that each SSID has downloaded each month? I am happy to use a network management software package (such as PRTG from Paessler) for the actual monitoring itself, but I just need to know if the SNMP in the WAP2000 Access Point will provide the information to begin with.

We have four VLANs that need to be accessible to wireless devices. The VLANs serve the following groups: staff, student, guest, phone
We are currently using a WEP/MAC authentication for staff and phone wireless networks.
I am looking for what your recommendation would be to provide reasonable level of wireless security, particularly with the staff network, but at the same time not require a high level of management, ex. managing active and inactive MAC addresses for MAC authentication. We have the following components available - 1240 APS, Windows AD, a 4402 WLC, and 6 campuses, and outdated Cisco ACS.We need to provide connectivity to Cisco wireless phones, laptops, iPads, cell phones.

I hadn't used this device (version 1) for a couple of years. After that much time and many changes in my home network, once again I need it to connect a printer. I pushed the reset button and followed the initial setup directions. So far so good.
Then I followed directions for using it on my network. Also good. I can access the bridge's web server and I can send jobs to the printer.
My problem is, after a period of inactivity (say, over night) I can no longer access the printer or the bridge. The only way I have found to get them back is to power-cycle the bridge. Some data ...
My router is a WRT320N. It manages DHCP and reserves a fixed IP address for the bridge. The bridge connects to a wireless network managed by an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11. It is connected directly to the router. Yes, I have two WiFi networks. No, I have not yet tried the bridge on the router's network. The LEDs on the bridge are the same, accessible or not.The printer is an OKI c3400n.

Here's what I have WAN->SonicWall->E1200 Basically the E1200 is given a static IP for it's WAN that is in the range of the Sonic Wall's DMZ interface, and the DMZ interface is the default gateway of the E1200. When wireless clients connect to the E1200 they get internet access with no issues and they are on a separate network (which is intended). The issue I have is if I get on a computer that is on the Sonic Wall's LAN network, which is able to route to the DMZ network, I am unable to ping the E1200 or perform remote management (turned on in the E1200). There are phone devices that are on the DMZ network that I can ping from the LAN network. I need to be able to remotely manage the E1200?

2 linksys routers a E1000 (fw v2.1.02) and a E4200 (fw v1.0.03) aren't accessable via HTTPS. Both via LAN https://router-ip and via wan https://isp-router-ip:8080 . Both routers are configured correctly (allready did a rerstore to fact. defaults. while having a chat with linksys live chat support). Everything without a result.
Ie9 doesn't accept the linksys/cisco certificate. after the first warning ie9 just sais that it's unable to show the page .
I did some testing and found that it doesn't work with a win7 +IE9 (up to date updates) and also not on a win XP +IE8 (up to date updates), win XP +chrome (up to date updates).
And it works on a old image (virtual Pc) of WIN XP- IE6 (no up to date updates) and win XP(up to date updates) +firefox (older version) .
i tried to export the certificate using the xp-ie6 virtual pc. and import it else where, but that works within the lan. Over the WAN it's a " NO GO" . Is this a " Microsoft" or a " linksys/cisco" issue?

The problem started with not being able to access EBay. I called the EBay people. Then, I called my local Internet Service Provider. There were at least 10 phone calls, to each. Then, I called the Linksys people. The lady told me that I had an outdated router and that I needed to get a new one. Well, I had previously bought the most expensive one I could get, said it was for "optimum" movie & gaming from Cisco.

I'm having difficullty configuring a USB hard drive to my WDR3600
The WRD3600 is acting as a switch with my netgear cable modem router as the DHCP server. The DHCP server on the WRD3600 is turned off. the WRD3600 is accessible on my home network and I can connect to attached wifi and Ethernet devices.
when I attach my WD USB hard drive, I can see the device on the WDR3600 web GUI USB settings page. The WD hard drive service status is started and enabled. when I click on the open the disk link, nothing happens. When I try to access the 192.168.x.x/volume1 address, I get a page that says the username or password is incorrect.
When I disconnect the WDR3600 from the rest of my network and turn the DHCP server back on and connect directly to the router, i am able to access the connected usb hard drive.
is it possible to have the WDR3600 acting as a switch with DHCP server off and still access usb devices connected to it?

I have connected a Seagate Free Agent 500GB to the USB port of my E4200 and while it does work fine, When the drive has been idle for a while, it goes into power saving mode, turning the spindle motor off. This means it takes a few seconds to access the disk. Not a problem, but apparently, those few seconds are enough for either Windows or the E4200 to decide that the disk is no longer accessible. The share is still available, but I get missing folders and files, files won't open or are not found, and backups job with Acronis True Image will fail because it thinks the share is unavailable.Sometimes, constantly refreshing the view and opening files at random will revive the share, but often, the only way to get it back is to restart the computer.
The problem is definitely related to the power saving. If I leave a video clip playing or similar, so there's always some disk access preventing the drive from entering power save mode, it works fine. But 15-20 minutes of no disk activity immediately causes problems.
