May 1, 2011I just started a new Position and they have CATos still runing on some of there 4506 and 6509 switches. I amy trying to come up with a plan to upgrade the switches to IOS but I dont know if they will take it or not. I know I need to get flash Cards to hold the IOS but i need to make sure that I get the right IOS for the Switches.

I want to restrict them to only few options so they can not make changes to uplink (TenGig) ports and can not issue reload command etc. We do not have TACACS. What is the best way to achieve this?

It is running CATOS and I want to make sure that when I connect it to the network it doesn't create a loop since it has to be compatible with other vendors, not just Cisco.I don't have anything connected but these are my concerns: It doesn't show my lacp-channel (i believe this is what is used to for Teaming network cards), it doesn't show my trunk ports.

This chassis will replace a working 6513 with 2 sup2's with CatOS.I need to pull the running config from the CatOS chassis and make it work on the IOS chassis. i can do this manually but was wondering if there are any trade secrets on doing this.

Oct 24, 2012I have a client who is changing their management IP scheme as a bridge to replacing equipment and much of the old equipment (Catalyst 4000) is running CatOS and I am a bit weak in CatOS. The existing Management IP is setup as follows:

set ip route 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 192.168.252.1
What we want to change this to is as follows:
set interface sc0 110 192.168.197.209/255.255.255.0 192.168.197.255
set ip route 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 192.168.197.1
The devices are spreadout over a large area and visiting each device is almost out of the question due to a time deadline I was wondering if I run this set of commands will this allow me to keep a remote session (SSH) running until the change is complete?

Feb 10, 2013We are implementing NAC in our environment and unfortunately still some of our obsolete 6500 switches are running CATOS, the current (cat6000-sup2cvk9.8-6-4.bin) image does not support some of the commands related to NAC implementation. Therefore, I would like to urge you to provide me the 8.7 image which supports all the NAC related commands and will be easier to finish the long pending assignment.
We are in process of replacing the obselete hardware but that will take time.
So, 8.7 K9 CATOS image required.

Oct 25, 2012I am trying to find the serial number on the CLI that matches the serial number sticker on the back of a WS-C2948G-GE-TX switch that runs CatOS. I am running code cat4000-k9.8-3-2-GLX.bin. I have 4 different switches and all the stickers have a serial that starts with JPE.. and both "show version" and "show sprom 1" and "show sprom 2" gives me a completely different serial number that starts wtih JAE... All of these serial numbers I get from the CLI match with each other. The command "show sprom chassis" says "Feature not supported."
Is it possible to find the serial number that matches the sticker from the CLI on a 2948G? Why does Cisco make this so confusing?

Jul 13, 2011I try to get a ASA with the new software 8.4.2 running. On an old pix we had the nat command: static (inside,outside) tcp interface www 192.168.15.252 www netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0,In all the new documents about 8.4.2 I can find that it should work with something like:
object network web_host nat (inside,outside) static interface service tcp www www
I want to forward http traffic from the outside interface to this host. In the log I just get entries about blocking ACL - but both is allowed on the outside access-list - traffic to the inside IP and also to the outside interface IP.
I also tried it with "Public Server" - but when I try to use the Interface address I just get the message: Address x.x.x.x overlaps with outside interface address.
Is it still possible to do port forwarding on the outside interface?

Feb 4, 2011I have two nic one connected with DSL modem with gateway 192.168.1.1 for Internet. another nic connected with office Intranet with gateway 10.226.122.x . I can connect only one network at a time disabling other.. I know route add command can be used for linking the both network so I can simultaneously use Internet and Intranet..can you elaborate with example (five years ago I set up the same with route add command.. now my memory failing..)
