I just picked up some second hand 4948 switches and wanted to install the embeded managment software. I can't find it anywhere in the downloads section?
is there a better FREE solution for managing these? I tried config profesional, but it only shows the routing config. There seems to be so many options.
I am trying to enable IP SLA on a Cisco 4948 switch (running 'cat4500-ipbasek9-mz.122-46.SG.bin') to test CiscoWorks IPM using this swtich as a source device. But I can't run the command "ip sla monitor" on this switch. It just has "ip sla responder". Is it possible to configura IP SLA on this source switch? Or can I do it only on routers?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have got a new 48port Cisco catalyst 4948 switch, which I configured as a VTP client and connected to Cisco 3750 which is a VTP Server (this switch is on production network). I connected port g1/0/48 from 3750 to port g1/48 on 4948 through a straight cable and made both ports as trunk port (I also tried through cross cable). The problem is these two switches are not detecting. For testing I connected a PC directly to one of the port on 4948 (making that a switch port) still the LED on switch didn’t glow up. Is there any special command needs to be run on 4948 switches to activate its physical ports?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI performed an upgraded on a 4948 switch and for some reason the switch kept booting with the old IOS. I was not sure if I needed to change the boot sequence but I performed this upgrade on some of our other 4948's and no issues.I eventually deleted the older IOS version and left the latest version on and reloaded switch and now switch only boots in rommon.I managed to configure the ip info and tftp server ip etc and using the following command as suggested in the rommon help, but it keeps coming back saying 'file not found', when I have checked the file does exist in the tftp server and in the tftpboot folder.

I've a strange problem with LMS CiscoView I can't see ONE (its stack of two) device in the CiscoView. and im getting an error mesg'
The LMS is connected to ACS and all the I.T Department can't see this specific device in CiscoView
I've tried: Deleted the device from the LMS and to discover it again.Rest the Demmon Erase it from the ACS and configure it again.it didn't work.
I can use other functional things like back configuration

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running LMS 4.1 and have an issue with Inventory: I have a stack of four 3750 switches, but only two of them are showing up in CiscoView. If I right-click - Topology - Device Report ; I see all four switches. The switches are standard 3750 switches and should be included in the Device Packages for CiscoView
Also if I go Reports - Detailed Device ; I see the same two devices show up under Module Information. However when I go to Reports - Device Attributes ; I see all four devices correctly displayed.
I have tried and deleted and added the stack in CiscoPrime, but with same result.

We will be buying a fibre optic line.Ideally,what I want to do, is split the connections evenly,depending on how many people are online current, rather than having mass downloads of everyone at the same time, when other will only get a small speed while browsing or gaming,or streaming,etc.So, basically, what I want to do is split the connection at anyone time evenly,so if there are 5 people connected and our connection speed is 50MB then each will get 10MB. And if 2 people are connected, then the speed will be 25MB each, and so on.
I am wondering what is the cheapest way of doing this? I am very computer illerate,I know how to use unix systems.I even own my own server, but I'm not so clued up in this area of networking.I believe it's something to do with a switch, and which switches support this? (I've heard it's something to do with full-duplex / half duplex).
- I will probably set up a domain system, where everyone has to login to the main server to access the internet. (I know vaguely how to do that) - is there some software that I can put on the server which will distribute connection speeds automatically.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have windows server 2008r2 running a FTP server, so I can back up my configs and upgrade IOS when needed. My problem is than I can backup to the server just fine but when i try and restore a config or pull a new IOS over it gives me this error

I just "upgraded" from an E1000 to an E1200 wireless router. I had good performance with the E1000, and I only upgraded to the E1200 because it was on sale.My only complaint with the E1200 is the slower download speed on my desktop PC that is connected directly to the router. My normal download speed on the desktop PC was 25 Mbps with the E1000 model. After I disabled the WMM on the E1200 as others suggested, the download speed on the desktop machine immediately increased from 5 Mbps up to 15 Mbps. Any other suggestions to get the download speed up to 25 Mbps before I switch back to my E1000? The E1200 router is connected to my Arris TM602G modem. Both modem and router were reset during the installation process. I setup parental controls for a couple of iPods and configured Open DNS, but other than that, the router is using default settings. All wireless devices in the house seem to be performing fine with the E1200.

I get on-line, and the internet all-of-a sudden starts to show that I've downloaded my limit of 250MB. Now, I am on Hughesnet for internet service, can not get on DSL, wont happen already asked. Now, I am running a router, only way my wife and son can access the internet. They have laptops windows 7 and build-in Wireless Cards. I have a desktop windows 7. My updates are scheduled in the morning hours about 5AM so their is no reason for the computer to update. Same goes for my wife and son, their are set for early morning hours as well. I get an error message as soon as I click on my webpage that I want to browse, Internet Can Not Display The Webpage or something to that effect.

our 6509 is configured as NTP master. Our 4948 is configured as NTP client.on each of these switches we have configured a management VRF.The problem is that 4948 can not synchronize its clock with NTP master. Both switches are directly connected.show cdp neighbor on 4948 switch:

debugs on 6509 do not show any packets received or sent to 4948.
I am unable to input the command "ip flow-cache timeout active 1" to my cisco 2960 and 4948 switches. But i am able to do so in my cisco 6500 series switch. Hence how do i enable netflow on both 2960 and 4948 devices?My 2960 and 4948 are L3 switches. What commands or additional hardware module are required.

The better solution is to setup the NTP server and let the rest of the switches to synchnorise the clock with it. How about cisco switch 4948? I am replacing a 7204 router with a 4948 and am having trouble trying to replicate the config for the qnq Layer3 interface.A bit of background - I am a service provider where I have an interconnect with the carrier, who pass off WAN links to me as a standard VLAN Ids. Some of these VLANs however I can do QnQ.
This works fine - but I can get the second-dot1q 50 command working properly

We can try to see if the switch is completely dead and needs replacing or is there something we can do to get it back up and running again?
So I've got an odd issue here, have an older 4948 that I'm trying to setup on our management vlan so i can manage it from another host connect to the switch. I can't figure out why its not working. Below is the config
vlan is 64 and all the trunk and access ports that are on vlan 64 are working just fine. Just can't hit the switch from a machine on the 64 vlan.

We purchased two new 4948 with two 10GE uplink ports and upgraded the devices to run IOS 15. My 6506 is running Sup 720 with s77233-adventerprisek0_wan-mz.122-33.SXI9. Currently we have 4948's connected to the same 6506's with no problems. Today I tried to add the new switches with new IOS and it caused of of my 6506 core switches to failover. I can't explain why because it was close to start of business and couldn't do much troubleshooting.
Currently we have four 4948 (running IOS 12.2(14) switches running Layer2 connecting dually to each of the two 6506 cores via 10GE fiber uplinks. I tried to add two more to the scenario, again running layer2 and dual-honing them to each of te 6506 switches. there are two 6506 core switches and they run HSRP and spanning tree is manually set to give priority to even vlans on one 6506 and odds on the other 6506. Also the new switches I tried to add did had rootguard applied as well as the uplinks.
We have to get this working and have no test environment to work with. We need to do this late this evening after close of business.
On another note, I have had problems upgrading some of my older 4948's to IOS 15. I followed Cisco's suggestion and upgraded the EPROM first and then the IOS upgrade took on three of the switches that were ordered rather recently. The four that were ordered in one batch will not take the upgrade even following Cisco's instruction and lots of other tricks. Nothing works. Having problems with IOS 15, in general?
