I am unable to input the command "ip flow-cache timeout active 1" to my cisco 2960 and 4948 switches. But i am able to do so in my cisco 6500 series switch. Hence how do i enable netflow on both 2960 and 4948 devices?My 2960 and 4948 are L3 switches. What commands or additional hardware module are required.

- IOS is 12.2(58)se2
- all ports have been enabled flowcontrol receive dersied
via show flowcontrol, I can see each Gigabyte Port have been enabled "flowcontrol receive desired" but, when I do the following tests
- connect equallogic ps4000xv to the port 21, I found the status of port is "input flow-control is off"
- connect one server with Broadcom Gigabyte Network adapter, which has been enable TX ON RX ON, or Auto, the status of the port is still "input flow-control is off"
I guess, the port status should be ""input flow-control is on". Test them with another port, I got the same result. why?
I've been digging into some performance issues on a LAN that has a couple of 2960s. The monitoring software I'm using has indicated a high amount of discarded outbound packets (up to 5%). The suggested resolutions were to enable flow control.
My question is does enabling flow control on all ports interrupt network traffic at all? this is a production network so I had already planned on doing it during off hours but also wanted to know if I should be prepared for any significant drop in traffic.
We want to implement multicast on our network. We are going to use for online teaching purpose. I am very new at Multicast and not have much idea about it. We are not running any routing protocol in our network, only static route. The multicast server is located at One of our office and it is connected with L2 (Cisco 2960) switch, L2 switch is connected to L3 switch(Cisco 4948). L3(Cisco 4948) and Core Switch(Cisco 6509) with FWSM are connected with E-3 link with tunnel. Router 1 and Router 2 are connected with P2P ILL links which are terminated at serial interface. The Multicast Server IP is 192.168.2.131/25. The scenario of our network are mentioned below:
Multicast Server--->(L2 Switch)--->(L3 Switch)--->(Core Switch)--->(FWSM)--->(Router 1)---->(Router 2)--->(L2 Switch)--->(Multicast Client)
We have created a seprate vlan (i.e. vlan 102, interface IP is 192.168.2.129/25) for multicast at L3 switch, enable multicast routing, defined rp-address(i.e. 192.168.2.129/25), enable sparse-dense mode at multicast vlan as well as at some other vlan also for testing purpose and joined multicast group (i.e. Multicast IP is 224.3.3.5). At core switch we have also enabled multicast routing, defined rp-address (i.e. 19.268.2.129/25), enable sparse-dense mode at user vlan and inside vlan of FWSM and joined multicast group at user vlan and inside vlan. At FWSM we have enabled multicast routing, defined rp-address(192.168.2.129), doesn’t find any option to enable sparse-dense mode and joined Multicast group at inside vlan and router 1 vlan. At Router 1, we have configured the same thing. We have configured mroute at all the devices. We are able to ping from end to end. We are testing multicast by Multicast IP checker tool (provided by vendor). Multicast is working fine at L2 switch, L3 switch and Core Switch, but not from Router 1. Ping is reachable from Router 1. After doing mtrace at Router 1, the following output has come:

If , we do mtrace from gateway IP address(i.e. 192.168.2.129) as destination address then mtrace is getting completed, but if mtrace is done from Mutlicast server IP address(192.168.2.131) as destination address, then mtrace is not getting completed.
We have connected one laptop at Router 1 vlan to test Multicast. The host, which is connected to Router 1 vlan is able to send multicast packet to other host and other host at different vlan are receiving it , but it’s unable to receive multicast packet send by other host of different vlan.
Do I need to enable igmp snooping at L2 switch, L3 switch and Core Switch ? I am not able to understand or can't figure out where i have configured wrong.
why the QoS deployment causes ports on 2960 switches to drop packets although there is no bandwidth contension? (output bit/second of the interface)packet drops at threshold 1, queue 2 ( queue 3 in config)
We are using Catalyst 2960 switches and are experiencing issues with QoS. After the QoS, we experience a lot of packet drops and it make the network slow. It appears that the slow performance relates to the egress queuing of each port.

our 6509 is configured as NTP master. Our 4948 is configured as NTP client.on each of these switches we have configured a management VRF.The problem is that 4948 can not synchronize its clock with NTP master. Both switches are directly connected.show cdp neighbor on 4948 switch:

I have an existing stack of 4 x 2960-S switches connected by stack cables.I would like to add another 2960-S switch to the stack but am unable to as the 2960-S will only allow 4 x 2960-S switches per stack.how I would add the 5th 2960-S switch to the existing stack of 4 x 2960-S switches.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have been deploying Cisco SF200-24P switches for our systems for over a year now. They connect to a Cisco 881 router. In many cases we are also deploying Cisco AP541s.Over the last few months, on an intermittent basis, the switches will simply freeze, blocking all traffic flow. The power LED also goes dark. It appears the switch has frozen. The only thing that seems to revive the switch is a hard reboot by pulling the power cord. In the last couple of weeks, one site in particular has gone down a handful of times. That client of our is fed up. Our patience is running thin too.
I cannot see any indications in the logs to any event that might give a clue as to the problem. We definitely see this problem with the 1.2.7.76 firmware and the 1.2.9.44 (latest as of typing this). Not sure if with earlier 1.1.2 firmware.Without a fix, we likely will have to change switches and possibly vendors as we need a reliable switch.I see some vague references to a similar problem. And one reference to a SG300 series having what sounds like the same issue.

Each 300 has unique data and ovice VLANs corresponding to their locations. All of the 300 switches connect to the 2960 in a hub and spoke network topology via 802.1q trunks. I can access devices between switches on the data and voice VLANs fine from any other switch. My issue is that from any 300 switch I can access the 2960 management VLAN interface without a problem, but I can not access the 300 switch management VLAN that I am connected to from the CLI. I do not use the GUI at all for management.

I have to setup my first flex stack and wanted to make sure I do it right. I have the physical aspect of the stack down. From what I gathered I have to setup the master switch as the highest priority and then provision the other two switches. But I have configs on the other two switches, do I have to delete them? And do I have to setup individual ips for the two slave switches, because from what I saw the master switch is the only one with an ip address? The master switch is a poe 2960S-48LPS and the two other switches are 2960G-48TD
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe had a new building thats gone up and complete now and we're trying to get a ip phone working down that end of the school on a vlan. We seem to be having trouble with the VLAN going through on the 2960 switch but it works fine on our core 3560 switch.
There looks like a slight variation in the config of the switches, the 3560 switch supports the "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q" command on the interface where as the 2960 doesn't support the "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q". Is this why the vlan is working on the 3560 and not the 2960, or is it something else?
Both switches are using the 12.2 IOS
Heres the trunk port configured on the 3560 going down to the new building and connecting into the 2960 with a 1gbit fiber link

Both are set to access mode. i need one port for failover (10 meg) . I can't do ether channel on the hwic. How do I prevent a loop when I connect my second connection. While having both connections up. Should I use bpdu guard? the goal is to have one port fail over if the 100 meg goes down. And I'm currently running ospf so it should take the faster connection.

View 7 Replies View RelatedCompany I work for just moved into a new location. We have two data closets which are patched as independent entities, with no Ethernet tie connection. These closets are roughly 100 feet apart.
There is a fiber connection that runs between both closets, that the previous tenant used to connect the switches. I have placed a Cisco 2960 switch in each location, and added one mini SFP gbic's to each switch. After attaching both sides, neither light up. I do a sh inter gig1/0/49 on each and shows 'down down' (not admin down).
What is the trick on getting these to communciate, do I need to configure these ports, and are they supposed to light up?
What I am trying to accomplish is to get the one closet that is completely cut off, communicating by logically stacking, or 'daisy chaining' via fiber.
I turned off the lights and popped the fiber out, and I do see a faint red light (I did not look straight into it), so I think the fiber is active.

I am having a problem in connecting two Cisco 2960 Switches between two different buildings using Cisco WLC 2504 & 3 Wireless 1552S APs.
- One AP is directly connected to Switch - 1 where WLC is connected and serving as a RAP
- Another one is working as Mesh in the field.
- Third one is a Mesh Access Point wired to another Switch - 2. (Bridging is enabled)
All the APs, WLC & switches are in the same network 10.3.x.x subnet mask : 255.255.240.0?WLC is working with default management interface whereas switches are having VLAN1 configured as default VLAN.All the port for the switches are Trunk ports?Once i am trying to ping the RAP or any MAP from Switch - 1 I am sucessful but once i am pinging Switch - 2, its not replying. I am aware that private-vlans are not supported on edge switches like 2960 series - so my question is would it be possibel to ceate private vlans on say just the core switch which would be a 3570 or 4506 that supports private vlans and then just trunk these to the edge like normal vlans?what I need to achive is to have edge port not able to communicate to each other even across switches - which cannot be done using 'protected' port so need the private vlan feature?
