I have an old computer (xp circa 2005) and I would like to connect to my n router wich is using wpa2. The old computer doesn't seem to have wpa2 as an option, is there anything I can do?

I dont know why my WD TV live wont connect to the router, its visible in the list though!!
even my PS3 is having troubles connecting to the E4200 with the WPA2 security.
I recently got a Motorola NVG510 (from AT&T, they changed our internet plan and sent a new router) and since then I've had problems with Skype. I think I've narrowed the problem down to there being no upnp on this router to enable, and Skype doesn't like that.So, is there any way I can make this option available, or some other way to 'simulate' upnp so Skype will play nice? I read somewhere else that "IP Passthrough" may be an option, but I'm unsure about that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3 computers running Windows and 1 running XP Pro.ISP is Charter. All these were connecting fine until Tuesday night storm came through. Power was out for a while due to a power pole being knocked down. Cable was on this same pole I think. Next day none of my computers could connect wireless.Used Ethernet cable direct to modem and finally got connection. To make a long story shorter, I find that now I can only connect unsecured or WEP. Can't connect using WPA2 at all.I wonder if it is possible that the ISP has blocked something to limit the speed?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect an old HP desktop I have (running windows XP) to my home network, which uses WPA2 encryption. I'm pretty much a network noob so I have no idea what's going wrong. Right now it's stuck on "validating identity" when I try to connect to the network.
So far in my quest to solve this problem, I have:
1. Downloaded Service Pack 3.
2. Tried disabiling Authentication for the network.
From reading around forums I've learned that apparently after downloading Service Pack 3, I should be able to choose 'WPA2' as an option for "Network Authentication" on my Network's properties page. It still isn't showing up for me though.
Since my desktop can't connect to the internet, I couldn't download Service Pack 3 directly so I downloaded it on another computer, put it on a flash drive, and then uploaded it to the desktop. I'm not sure if this could be the problem or not, but if it makes a difference, I can verify on my Computer's properties page that I am running Service Pack 3.
My network adapter is a "Hawking Technologies HWP54G Wireless-G PCI Card". Is it possible that this card does not support WPA2? How do I tell? If it doesn't support WPA2, am I **** out of luck for trying to connect to my network without upgrading the card itself?
Why doesn't "WPA-2" show up as an option for my Network Authentication type?
I have a WAP54G v3.1 running firmware version 3.05.01 and a WRT54G v3 running Tomato v1.28. The WAP54G is configured client mode and works perfectly. However, I was not able to get the two to communicate with WPA2 security - maybe, I just didn't try hard enough? Both devices are capable of doing WPA2 with AES but client mode doesn't seem to work with WPA2? I had to drop back to WPA-AES to make it work. Why is this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a new GFX card and I went in uninstalling the other gfx drivers for my gfx card that I had previously and I guess I uninstalled the LAN driver I have went to the computer manufacturer site and downloaded it but it doesn't have an .exe so I cant install I know how to install a driver without .exe but I when I go into Device manager and go into Network Adapters but it only has the wireless network driver that im using now so i cant do it i have no where else to turn other than taking it to a computer repair shop and that person does it. But the XP computer does not show up on Windows7. File sharing was enabled in both. In another post TerryNet asked for the following info (nbtstat -n and IPCONFIG /ALL) from both machines. Just made a fresh computer, installed Win98 (have only 128 ram so no XP) I have a card I put in the computer from Linksys which allows for a desktop to have wireless internet. I installed the Linksys software. (first thing I've ever installed on this Computer after Windows) It doesn't pick up the wireless signal in the house (my laptop does just fine).. is there another program floating around somewhere?

The ethernet cabled one does, but not the wireless. Trying to connect to anything wireless just gives an endless searching process, with no results. I can't test the ethernet either, my router is all the way into the living room, way far out of reach.

I have a an HP Pavilion dv6000t notebook running Windows Vista.I have a wireless router at home and connect to the wireless signal using both this computer and my other computer that I use for work. Yesterday, out of the blue, my laptop stopped connecting to my home wireless signal.It detects the signal, but when I click on it to connect (something I shouldn't have to do, as it is configured to connect automatically), I get a message saying that it couldn't connect and suggests that the signal strength is low.I know that the signal strength is fine as I am connected just fine on my work computer.I can plug my laptop into the router using a cable and it connects just fine that way, so the only problem is with the wireless signal. I have restarted the computer, modem, and router, to no avail.

This seems to be an issue with the range, or something, since if i move the computer right next to the router, it runs at about 50-60mbit. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Vostro 3460 laptop with Windows 7, 64-bit. My wireless driver is Dell Wireless 1704.802.11b/g/n. I just got this computer in December, and it worked fine for a couple of months, then about a month ago, I started having these problems.
Whenever I turn off or put my computer to sleep and turn it back on, my wireless connection doesn't work. The wireless indicator light on the front of the laptop is not on, and I push the FN+F2 button (which is supposed to turn on wireless), but it does nothing. I checked under the device manager, and the wireless adapter is not there.
After the first time I ran the diagnostics, I reinstalled the driver. The I restarted the computer, and the wireless was working. However, that night I turned of the computer, and when I turned it back on the next morning, the wireless was not working again.Other things I have discovered that sometimes work as a temporary fix:
Sometimes, if I wait 5 or so minutes, the wireless indicator light will come on, and then I can restart my computer and connect to a network, but most of the time, I can wait for hours and it never comes on.If I start in computer into safe mode or the BIOS screen or diagnostic screen, sometimes the wireless will start working after I exit that mode and start into normal operating. For example, one of the times that I ran the PSA diagnostics, the wireless started working afterwards, but stopped working again the next day. Another time, I started the computer in safe mode with networking to see if that would work, and the wireless did not work while I was in safe mode, but then I restarted the computer in normal mode, and the wireless came on.
One time, I went under Device Manager and did "Scan for Hardware Changes." After that, the wireless indicator light came on, and I restarted the computer and was able to connect to a network.However, all of these solutions were temporary, and some of these solutions only work one time but not again.I called Dell Support a couple of weeks ago, and they said that my antivirus program might be stopping the wireless driver from starting up. I have Trend Micro, which came with the computer.
My WRT54G2 v1 does not automatically connect to the internet on computer start-up. The computer will say "Connected, No Internet Access" In order to fix it I have to unplug the router and then plug it back in. This happens to any computer that tries to get online from a cold start-up. The router must always be unplugged, then plugged back in, then it will have internet access (and will generally maintain it throughout the session and even if the computer is restarted, i.e. warm boot). I have downloaded the latest firmware uprade.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a new WRVS400n recently because it had Gigabit speed, wireless n and a built in VPN server. The device works perfect except for the Quick VPN client. I'm a system engineer so I thought I could set it up quite easy just like any other device I configured in the past. Painfull but it isn't like this.
I set up the VPN on the WRVS4400n and generated a certificate. I saved both the client and admin certificate to my pc, I gave them a name to easily make up the difference between both of them. When placing the certificate in the installed QuickVPN folder, it doesn't seem to get recognised by the QuickVPN software. When I try to connect, it says 'Server's certificate doens't exist on your local computer'. I guess the naming convention must meet some kind of format, is that correct? If so, this should have been described in the documentation.
Besides that I checked if the required ports used by the VPN server are open on the public port of the device, that is the case. So It seems I'm quite close to get it working.
The version of QuickVPN I used is 1.4.2.1. The WRVS4400n has the latest firmware loaded.
