View 1 RepliesI I use a Linksys E3000 router. Sometimes when I look at the network map I see a device called "Unknown." It appears as though the two notebooks sometime are going through this device to access the Linksys E3000. (I've checked when both notebooks are on and I can determine what devices are connecting directly to the router and what devices are going through this unknown device.) Is there any way to determine what this unknown device is?

I also have a NetGear DGND3300v2 router which I would like to connect to the Thomson (eventually I will purchase a switch and connect another device along with the NetGear). The problem is that the NetGear only has 4 LAN ports and no WAN ports, which I assume you would need to set this up.

It seems to be the worst on weeknights and weekends.<removed by moderator - etaf>, For reference, I am running a Windows 7 machine, connecting wirelessly through a Netgear WNR1000 router. When connected to the router using an ethernet cable, it works perfectly fine. There is another wired device which works fine, so it's mainly the wifi connection. For my Windows 7 PC, the wireless cuts in and out (working fine now), and oftentimes drops me. I have to reset the router/modem multiple times just to be able to use it. My roommate who also has a wireless PC also has problems connecting wirelessly as well. Currently, I have IPV4 connectivity, but no IPV6 connectivity.

I will be temporarily moving to another house for a couple of months. The internet connection type in that house is LAN.I'm not so sure that this the right term but it's not ADSL or dial up,it's just a cable connected to the PC from the rooftop which got a small device that's connected to the provider's office .I need wifi for my galaxy s3.
1-Is it actually possible to connect a LAN connection to a router and use wifi ? If so,are there any installion steps other than just connecting the cable to the router?
2-Will this affect my adsl connection when I go back to the house with the adsl connection ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to add another wireless router to my network. It's a home network using a Charter cable modem/wireless router in the main house. To connect a second building to the router I have used a CAT-6 cable to connect to the modem/router combo, I need to do this because the second building has a metal roof and doesn't allow wireless connection to the cable modem. I want to be able to use wireless in the second building.
My question is, the CAT-6 cable coming into the second building from the cable modem/router is coming from a LAN port. Would I connect that cable into the WAN port of the second wireless router or into a LAN port?

It connects but gives "Local Only" as the connection.

At first all was well, then a few months ago i noticed (upon star-up) that the network adapter was not connecting to my Belkin router? The Network & sharing centre tells me that it is connected, although the icon on the bottom toolbar shows a yellow triangle & reads No Internet connection? I have to go through the same process evrytime to get connected, which usually takes approx. 5 mins That is to follow the Network/share centre's troublshooting? I have updated the adapter Driver, yet still the problem exists?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've tried to connect my father's laptop and my father's girlfriend's daughter's PC to my Linksys Wireless Router, model #WRT54G2 V1. So far, I have steady and fast internet access on my PC which so far I've only gotten my father's laptop to connect through. However, I can't figure out how to get her PC to get internet access through my router. I'm mediocre at configuring computers, and I'm absolutely terrible at routers. :/ There was the possibility that her computer isn't new or advanced enough or whatever to be compatible with a wireless router, but at the same time she has a Wireless Network Setup Wizard app. in the control panel area, so wouldn't I be correct in assuming that if a computer has a wizard dedicated to it, it is compatible? I've run Wireless Network Setup Wizard as well as just plain Network Setup Wizard, and I've had them both read that it was successful connecting to my Router's network...but where do I go from there? I've never had to mess with a PC before so I'm not entirely sure. She has a modem, which can not be plugged into the phone jack at the same time as my modem otherwise we both do not have internet access, however if one of us plugs in that person is fine, so that's when I figured I'd try to get her PC into my network with my dad's laptop. Also, we have a Broadband connection setup through Verizon, if that matters at all. Does she need a modem to hook up to my network at all? If so, does that modem need to be plugged into the phone jack? If required I'll give her OS and PC specs and such, but from what I know just being on her computer she runs Windows XP as an OS and her computer is an "eMachine".

I also have a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card. When setting the Network mode on my router to Wireless N-Only I am unable to connect to the network. I have been searching all over the internet for how to fix this, but none of the answers suit me. I have my network security set to WPA2 with an AES encryption, like people keep saying so I know that is not the problem. Others say that I need to set my wireless adapter to N-Only as well, but I have not been able to find anything in Google that shows me how this is done. The driver version for my adapter is 5.60.48.18 and is up to date according to Windows.
