IBM Thinkpad Not Connecting To Wireless Router
Aug 8, 2011
I bought an old IBM Think Pad laptop and i cant seem to connect to my wireless router. I have another laptop which connected with no problem just simply typed the wireless password in and all work fine and the same for my iphone. First problem was when I got asked for the wireless password it came up with a message say " The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network comfiguration".

I have a thinkpad, and my friend next door said I could use their wireless which is set up through COX. I click on the icon at the lower right that shows wireless strength and a window opens up called "access connections" I don't know what to do from there. I see the wireless icon for the one next door on the diagram, I click on it which highlights it, then I click on "connect". It looks like it is going to connect because a green bar starts to fill in the "location" : "name" place, but then a little window pops up that says "connection failed.Recommended action: Verify that the encryption settings (WEP/TKIP/AES) specified in this profile match those expected by the wireless network.

I have an IBM Thinkpad T42 Model 2373.This morning I had to factory reset it, and lost all of my drivers. Slowly, I'm getting them back, but I've lost my wireless internet ability. I've attempted to turn my wireless on, it says IBM Wireless Adaptors (802.11 or bluetooth) are not installed on this system. My card is an Intel(R) Pro/1000 MT Mobile Connections, and I understand that this isn't a wireless card. But. I've had wireless working for the past year and a half...

I am unable to locate my wireless adapter on IBM Thinkpad R50 after I had to re-install Windows XP. It was not the cd that goes to the laptop, as I did not have one because I bought the laptop used. I went to the Lenovo website and have installed just about every driver on support page and still NOTHING.

I've come across an older IBM ThinkPad 2687 via work that was just collecting dust, and it was able to connect to a wireless network.Due to other issues with the machine, I had to do a complete refresh on it, so it only had the XP OS.
I had to update the drivers to make sure other things like connecting to a flash drive, and connecting to a local area was possible, which is how I'm able to connect now. However, I've been unable to access the wireless connection within Network connections. I've downloaded the different drivers from the Lenovo IBM ThinkPad website, but still no luck.

I 'm very happy with the AE1000 & got it to work with my A31p by using a USB 2.0 adapter; (it only has USB 1.0) I think the ThinkPad PCMCIA card is faulty because it only works for a brief time & then dies (works fine with current machines)--then I noticed that the newest driver supports USB 1.0 but exactly how is that file implemented? I don't see .exe files, etc, & want to try to use the new driver--I'm using the latest XP--is there a step-by-step tutorial describing how to use the new driver?

I have a Linksys Wireless router WRT54G, I am trying to connect a IBM Thinkpad T42 with Windows XP. I have the right Router name and password, but all I keep getting is "Acquiring Network Address", but not connection. Running "WPA" on security. The laptop works fine when connected directly to the router via cable.

After working fine for months, the network on my ThinkPad R61i has become slow and intermittent. Often after a reboot, it will work fine... then after several hours it will get slower and slower to load pages, sometimes failing to load them entirely. Usually, after several minutes of inactivity, I can refresh a bunch of stalled pages and they'll all load fine, and it will work again okay for a few minutes, then slow down again. Often a reboot will clear it up, but not always. .

I've spent several hours trying to see if it's even worth trying to upgrade my old Thinkpad i1400, which has Windows 98 and only a modem internet connection. Obviously in today's world it's wireless or nothing. So...I've read that I could upgrade to Windows 98SE, and on [url]... the used disk is only about $15. I also read that 98SE has a lot of glitches. However, I already have an XP disk (don't know how I got it) but it may be corrupted, because it never finishes the installation on the thinkpad---goes completely blank after about 10 minutes. One problem is the limited hard disk space on the i1400 --- about 2.5 GB for both the C and D drives respectively. There is less than 1 GB on the C drive free and XP takes up almost 800 MB. I'm afraid to wipe clean Win98 and replace it with XP, and for some reason I can't install XP to the D drive. Even if I could accomplish this, will XP be the magic bullet that gets me wireless on this dinosaur of a laptop?

I have tried everything - virus checks, HijackThis, disabling services and startup. I have three tabs set for home (CNN, Yahoo and Gmail). Gmail connects but I can't access any other sites. Also Outlook 2007 connects to the MS Exchange Server. The behavior is a little weird because when I first boot up, all my tabs load properly but then after a minute or two, I press the "home" button and suddenly nothing will connect (except Gmail, which still continues to connect). All has been fine for years and then all of a sudden this happened when I returned from a business trip (had the computer with me and everything was fine). I have ruled out router and other connection issues. In Safe Mode, the connections are just fine. As a last resort, I may reinstall XP but I would obviously prefer not to.I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T400, running XP SP3.

I recently bought a Bose Soundlink bluetooth speaker and have paired it with both my ipod touch and ThinkPad w500. The iPod Touch sounds great, but the audio coming through the speaker via the w500 sounds like it is clipping, especially at normal-loud listening levels. Both the soundlink and the w500 have the latest bluetooth driver updates installed. The clipping occurs even when the main volume (and iTunes/Spotify) is turned down to 50% power.whether there is a way to reduce the "power" of the bluetooth signal so it does not cause the speaker to distort. Audio played through the speaker via 3.5mm from the w500 sounds great even at high volume.
Currently installed bluetooth drivers:
Bluetooth Enumerator (Microsoft)
ThinkPad Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate (Broadcom)
Bluetooth Hands-free Audio (Broadcom)
Bluetooth Remote Control (Broadcom)

I I use a Linksys E3000 router. Sometimes when I look at the network map I see a device called "Unknown." It appears as though the two notebooks sometime are going through this device to access the Linksys E3000. (I've checked when both notebooks are on and I can determine what devices are connecting directly to the router and what devices are going through this unknown device.) Is there any way to determine what this unknown device is?

I have a Thomson TG585 v7 router which is in bridge mode. I also have a NetGear DGND3300v2 router which I would like to connect to the Thomson (eventually I will purchase a switch and connect another device along with the NetGear). The problem is that the NetGear only has 4 LAN ports and no WAN ports, which I assume you would need to set this up.

My internet was running perfectly fine for the first 6-9 months, but recently has deteriorated to a mess (keeps getting booted on and off or slows to the point where it's virtually unusable). It seems to be the worst on weeknights and weekends.<removed by moderator - etaf>, For reference, I am running a Windows 7 machine, connecting wirelessly through a Netgear WNR1000 router. When connected to the router using an ethernet cable, it works perfectly fine. There is another wired device which works fine, so it's mainly the wifi connection. For my Windows 7 PC, the wireless cuts in and out (working fine now), and oftentimes drops me. I have to reset the router/modem multiple times just to be able to use it. My roommate who also has a wireless PC also has problems connecting wirelessly as well. Currently, I have IPV4 connectivity, but no IPV6 connectivity.
My ipconfig below:

I've got a wireless TP-LINK router with an ADSL connection. It got 1 ADSL port and 4 LAN ports. I will be temporarily moving to another house for a couple of months. The internet connection type in that house is LAN.I'm not so sure that this the right term but it's not ADSL or dial up,it's just a cable connected to the PC from the rooftop which got a small device that's connected to the provider's office .I need wifi for my galaxy s3.
1-Is it actually possible to connect a LAN connection to a router and use wifi ? If so,are there any installion steps other than just connecting the cable to the router?
2-Will this affect my adsl connection when I go back to the house with the adsl connection ?

I'm trying to add another wireless router to my network. It's a home network using a Charter cable modem/wireless router in the main house. To connect a second building to the router I have used a CAT-6 cable to connect to the modem/router combo, I need to do this because the second building has a metal roof and doesn't allow wireless connection to the cable modem. I want to be able to use wireless in the second building.
My question is, the CAT-6 cable coming into the second building from the cable modem/router is coming from a LAN port. Would I connect that cable into the WAN port of the second wireless router or into a LAN port?
Cable modem LAN ---->second building----> Second Wireless router
