Home Network :: Wireless Connects But No Internet
Feb 12, 2011My laptop is able to connect to the wireless router in my home, but the browser will never load a page, status is shown "connected". However, when I try on other laptops, they are able to surf the net. I have tried using my laptop at my friend's place with a different wireless router and it works at his place as I was able to surf the internet through my wireless! So, I've tried resetting my personal modem to factory default and it still doesn't work!

Jul 22, 2011I have a compaq presario that will connect to my wireless network but when i open internet explorer or mozilla firefox the page will not load and says that the server cannot be found. i don't think the router is the problem since i have a separate computer that connects just fine wirelessly and a ps3 that connects to the internet just fine. the only way i have been able to access the internet with the compaq is plugging it into the modem with the ethernet cable but i want to connect wirelessly.

Dec 27, 2011my vista machine connected to the internet. My PC, a Dell studio 540, worked perfectly well on the BT Homehub2 in our last house but now I have very infrequent access.The wireless adapter connects to the network but not to the internet. I get a 'Identifying public network' message with (no customise option). When I use LAN to connect 'unidentified network'.it will connect via wireless, but it seems random and then if the machine sleeps or is restarted it's back to square one.

But I can see the network, I can ping every computer on the network, just can't get to the internet.Reinstalled all the drivers, tried renew, netsh commands, flushdns, disabled & reenabled. 2 other computers connect to the internet and each other with no problem. Can connect to other WI Fi's too, but still no internet access.

Feb 18, 2012I am running a VPN server on my desktop at home, with all the default settings, and i checked the box that allows clients to connect over the internet. this is win7 x64 computer. I opened up port 1723 with PPTP protocol on my E4200 router.On the client i am running win7 x64 as well. I am able to connect to the vpn, from another internet connection, but there is no local network acess. It says the status is No Internet Access. and the IP that is assigned is the 169.x.x.x one that windows defaults when it doesnt find a dhcp server.How can i get the client to connect with full local network access. Right now being connected to the vpn, it means nothing, i have no access other than being "connected".

Dec 30, 2011We have a fairly new (about two weeks) wirless network set up in our home consisting of a Netgear modem (with wifi, which I have disabled) connected to a Belkin N wireless router. Our ISP is Optus.
My laptop (which is running Windows Vista service Pack 2) was connecting fine since we set it up until about 2 nights ago. Since then, it has had trouble connecting to the network (windows tells me it's taking longer than usual) and when it finally does, I have limited or no connectivity.The internet works fine when the laptop is connected directly to the modem, and if I unplug the wire, it stays connected to the network wirelessly for several minutes before it drops the signal.
At first I thought it was because I was using the laptop at the back of the house (with the modem and router being at the front), perhaps the signal experiencing interference, but no matter where in the house I try to connect, it has problems.I also tried updating the drivers and uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers for the adapter in the laptop, with no luck.

Apr 22, 2012Title basically sums it up. Whenever my laptop connects to the wireless network in my house, it becomes unusable since nothing can no longer load. I have done a full virus scan and all, found no viruses, adware, spamware, etc. I also downloaded a program to check what programs are using bandwidth but nothing seemed out of the ordinary or enough to completely stop the Internet

Have pinged without any response however the wifi or hardwire will show connected to the local net.I have four other units surfing the web fine and wifi picks up ok except for one unit that my neighbor need will not connect no matter what. Have updated all the drivers, uninstalled and re-installed devices, reset ip, dumped the dns several times, etc.So here is the ipconfig stuff....ignore the cable connect I only have the wifi on at the moment. May 24, 2011I have a wireless network set up in our small office. I just bought the DIR-655 and installed it (did have a very old Netgear router). I currently have two wireless printers, a MAC and a couple of iPhones that can connect to the network and internet. My desktop is plugged in and also connects fine.The BOSS just came in with his fairly new Win7 laptop and I connected it to the network, however, no matter what I try, it won't connnect to the internet. I can see his laptop in the network, it can see my computer and it says that it is connected to the network. It also says that it is not connected to the internet. I ran the troubleshooting (by clicking on the "X" between the network and the internet in the Network and Sharing Center) and it said it couldn't find the problem. The Win7 laptop has no problems connecting to the old network, nor any others that it encounters.

Jul 31, 2012I have a Windows 7 computer that was built by ibuypower. It's great, but I ordered a rosewill wireless adapter for it and noticed that my connection strength and speed are both pretty terrible. I went on amazon and bought a TP-Link wireless adapter(TL-WN822N). I installed the most recent "V2" drivers from their website and upon disabling my rosewill adapter and enabling the new TP-Link adapter, I was able to connect to the network, but not access the internet. I have tried power cycling the router, using the reset switch on the router, restarting my computer, and a bunch of commands that I found on this site. Is it possible that I have a defective adapter?
Also, some more information: My isp is comcast and the router is from them as well. Here is my ipconfig /all log for the rosewill adapter(internet access):

Jul 11, 2012This PC is connected to a Press machine in our Production area (Lan only with machine and PLC's) so I disable the LAN to the press then the 3G connection comes up with bps activity. I want to use teamviewer on the PC for remote support but teamviewer is unable to connect like it use to and its a free license. I tried internet explorer and "page cannot be displayed". There are no special proxy settings and DHCP IP. ( Windows XP with admin rights)
Whats confusing is even if the lan is disabled, the 3G connection would only come up now and then, but then I could add. The PC has viruses and very slow at the moment and I have loaded free AVG just to scan and clean some to see if it works. I cannot format the PC or something like that because there is production software and applications on with special settings that runs the R10 000 000 press machine and if the PC stops... trouble :/ I have ordered new PC for the press machine 18 000 Euros but that would take 12 weeks to arrive and if I could get the connection internet working on the machine it would be great.

I know for a fact that this device works for two reasons. Firstly, I've used it in another laptop, and more strangely, it works on this new computer sometimes too.After about half an hour of random methods to make a connection stick, it might connect. And it lasts until the computer goes to standby, or is turned off. Oct 7, 2011My flatmates and I recently got Sky broadband - their laptops connect just fine to the internet and they are able to use it without any problems. Mine also connects, but I can't do things like browse or use Skype, etc.When I go into Google Chrome, I'm told there is a DNS error that was unable to be resolved. Mozilla tells me that I have a problem with my server, and IE doesn't work either. Also, I am receiving very few packets. For every 2,000 or so packets that are sent, I only receive 2 or 6. When I click 'repair' I am told that my IP address cannot be renewed. The thing is, the internet works on my netbook at my mother's house, yet it doesn't work in my flat or other places like wifi spots.
I've tried so many things, such as clearing the DNS cache, releasing and renewing IP address, I've set the properties of the wireless connection to obtain DNS and IP automatically, I've tried pinging, I've turned off all my firewalls, I tried system restore, I've fiddled with certain keys in the registry, I even rebooted my entire hard disk last night and it still doesn't work! I'm really at my wit's end with this and I don't know what else to do. The problem is way beyond my comprehension now.
