D-Link DCS-942L :: Static IP Setup Losing Its IP Address
Jul 1, 2012
I have 3 Dcs-3420's on the same network same static ip setup and they never have issues. Im testing 1 942L, I've upgraded firmware to1.11, but periodically the camera loses its ip address which is weird because it is set static. My wireless is set to Mac address security. Now camera is outside in a shaded area, over night the camera worked all night, this morning it has reset three times. Additionally, each time it resets/losses ip address it also loses the manually set time.
Ok so for many days I did manage to access the IP address for a livestream, and to go into the advanced setup of the camera. Suddenly, it stops working. i can't access it. What happened?
I enter the IP address into the url field and hit enter. Several seconds pass by.. Then I get this message: "The connection has timed out." and nothing happens.
This is making me upset cause I need to get this camera working NOW! I want to delete everything on the SD car, and also lower the sensor so that it wont record everything including NON movements like it does now.
I recently switched routers to the DIR-615 and I'm trying to troubleshoot why one of our laptops keeps losing the IP address and gets a self-assigned IP address. I see the following messages in the log, I am wondering if the reason codes are listed and explained somewhere? I tried searching the manual but could not find any information.
When I change a setup setting and click save settings, most of the time it gets stuck on the "saving..." notification window and eventually I get a "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" notification. However I have found that if I repeatedly try it eventually it will accept the change. This never happens using the wizards only making manual changes. I am running the camera with a Wi-Fi connection. I am not sure this is a router or camera firmware bug (running V1.12)
Had just purchased a new DCS942L unit and had it setup fine. Registered it on the web and the web stated that it needed a firmware update. Connected with hard line and started update. After 5min webapp said device timed out. When I went to rest camera could no longer get a connection of any kind.
the 942L is up and running but I ain't getting no email snapshots nor video clips.I think the menu for setting up the "Video Clip" and "Snapshot" is severely lacking info for users like myself; what to type in the smtp field, the sender or recipient email fields, and especially not username and password. Do I put my email username and password there, or my MyDlink login email and password?
I have my 942L set up for continuous recording. When I look at the files, the camera will record between 20 and 55 seconds, end that file and start another. The next file then starts between a few seconds and as much as 40 seconds later leaving a gap in the video recoding. The file sizes are all different and the amount of record time is different for each file.
Also, about 80% of the time, the time increments a few seconds on a playback and then stops updating even though the video is longer.
In the last two weeks I've been losing wireless connectivity at least once a day. Today it occurred twice. The way that I resolve the problem is by wireing-up, loggin into the router and essentially just resaving the wireless settings (url...) without changing them. Then I'm good to go for about 12 hours.
I just got the camera today, looks good, works good, at least so far.. BUT I was SURE this camera had a battery and charge function!? What's the point of having this camera if I can't place it say inside my car or in the garage (where it needs to be hidden, alas I can't use any cords!)?
I am trying to set up a static IP address for my Toshiba Satellite L350 Wireless Laptop on Windows 7. My Broadband is on TalkTalk (UK) Huawai Echo-Life HG520b. I tried many sites but it never seems to work.

I have setup some static addresses but now some of them need to change... But I can't see how to amend the DHCP table..There must be a way of doing this beyond altering the DHCP range so I can put them all in againLAN Setup.JPG.
My old modem from Roadrunner (Time Warner) died and the service man replaced it with a Arris TG852 modem/router. then my problems began. I would like to have the Arris modem act like a modem and not a router. The network governed by the DIR works fine but none of the clients can connect to the internet. Below are the steps I have tried.in both steps below, The DIR is connected to the Arris using the Ethernet not the Wan port.
1. I tried disabling DHCP on the Arris router and setting a static IP address for the DIR router. This worked for a bit and then quit. Some of the computers said there were duplicate IP addresses on the network. If fact the same IP address showed up in the DNS list of the Arris and the DIR routers.. even though the Arris router had DNS disabled.
2. After reading other forums. I enabled DHCP on the Arris and set it to passout IP address between 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.99. I then setup the DOR to pass out addresses between 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.200. then moved the DIR into the DMZ of the Arris. Still no access to the internet.
I'm trying to set the various computers in my house to static IPs. When I do, the apprear to still be connected to the home network but lose internet connection. I'm using a Medialink wireless router, but I'm trying to set the hard wired lan connections, not anything wirelessI go under ipv4, set:ip address: 192-168.0.100 (or 101, whatever)submask fills in to 255.255.255.0Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1I also went into the router setting and change (dchp?) to only automatically assign from 192.168.0.120 and up so nothing conflicted.
Im running a fairly simple server from my own desktop. However my desktop is connected to the internet via Wifi. When i make my static IP i am still conected to the internet. However I cant load any pages in mozilla firefox. Though! I can still talk to people on skype and Dolby Axon voice chat. how do i make the static IP without losing any functionality of my desktop, because it is my desktop, I use it for other things.
The company has a glitch that they are not sure if they will fix so you can't record with mac. I am unable to return my cameras to staples and Im out the money for the memory cards I opened. It says you can record with MAC clearly on the box!!!! Bad business practice for STAPLES and DLINK.
I have a dell desktop and a toshiba laptop with a Linksys wireless N broadband wrt160n v2 router. I have the desktop hardwired to the router along with my dsl. The desktop pc keeps lossing it's IP. I tried to get window to fix it but no matter what I do, I can not get the desktop PC to see the internet. All the lights on the router show the pc are there. I can hook the dsl right to the desktop and can get to the internet but then I not using the wireless router. If I keep rebooting the PC and router I can get luckly have get the connection but if I walk away and come back later the desktop can no longer see the internet.
I just purchased 2 cameras and have one set up. Firmware V 1.12
Works great on my android phone and connects fairly quick. When I try to see the camera image on my PC with windows 7 64 bit, I log into my d-link and it shows the camera name on left side of screen, then says Java run time environment not installed.I uninstalled java 5 times and re installed both 32 and 64 bit but keeps coming back as not installed. Camera is set up wirelessly through a Belkin router, so far no EZ config
As DCS-942L IP cam is compatible with "NVSCGI APIs" (search this string on a search engine and you will find some useful PDF docs), many features of this IP Cam may be enabled or disabled using any web browsers, for example we can manage the motion detect.
I just bought new 942L (HW Rev3, 1.12 FW) and the only profile which is used to stream to iPhone or Web browser in mydlink is profile 3 which is limited to JPEG. Is there some way how to change the profile to be used for streams or is there a way how to make to profile 3 something else then JPEG?
The DCS942 (which is right near but facing the other direction) is about 2 meters away from one of the 932's but the 942 keeps going offline - it comes back on and off probably 4-5 time during a 24hr period.
This is most frustrating - it would look like Wifi signal strength could be the issue but the other 932 right near it doesn't have this issue?
I initially set it up for static IP, which was a mistake for reasons I probably don't need to go into here. Having recognized my mistake, I've been trying to hard reset it so I can convince it to acquire its IP address by DHCP, but each time I reset it and return to the "First, select your camera" screen in the setup wizard, I'm faced with a single choice: the device as I first set it up for static IP. I don't seem to be able to convince it to give up that erroneous static IP address.I have read the FAQ section on hard reset. I've held down the reset button for a lot longer than 6 seconds while the cam was connected to power and ethernet, and I've watched it go through the sequence of flashing blue reset and WPS lights until it settles down, but this doesn't change the situation, evidently.
My DCS-942L is almost always in night mode with IR on resulting in a B/W picture. Only when the light is very bright it changes to day mode. How to adjust the day/night threshold?
I'm trying to connect to the camera DCS-942L through the Rtsp Protocol.
Link do this : [URL]
But the video signal no. Tried different players. Players determine the model of the camera , but no image and after a couple of minutes is open. What I'm not doing all right?" My link has the correct view ?
Any replacement bracket or some other way to easily mount the 942l in a window? i have a long window next to my front door i want to just stick this someone about shoulder high in that window looking right to the door so will see anyone who comes.
My Dlink DCS-942Ls had been updated to the latest firmware both 1.12.1608WW and 1.12.1628EU. (I grouped them into two firmware devices). They are all H/W version A1, agent version 2.0.15-b11. If I setup time to automatic time configuration and sync with NTP servers ( all from drop down list and Thailand NTP server time1.nimt.or.th) , they did not work and I must set time manually every times I power off and on these IP cameras. I knew that this issues has been raised for long times and still exist in the current firmware.Simple way to eliminate this problem is specifying NTP server into IP number. ping your national NTP server URL and then get the IP address , e.g. time1.nimt.or.th has IP 203.185.69.60 , or ntp1.dlink.com has IP 61.67.210.241. I have tested many ways and the results can be comfirmed that URL NTP letter cannot sync time but IP number can do. I also has a DAP-1360 Repeater mode and test with its "System Check" ping test, the result are success either URL NTP server name and IP number. NTP protocol is different to ping test. I'm not sure that which parties (ISP, DNS, Router, IP camera device) should fix this error. I decided to specify NTP server with IP number to all network devices from D-Link. Minor risk may occur if a national NTP server change its IP number.
I own a HP laptop (runs Windows 7), and lately when I either turn it on or log back in for the first time in a day, it's not connected to the internet, despite my brother's desktop computer (Windows XP) being connected (it's right beside the router and modem). Before, we would have to just unplug the router for a few seconds and then plug it back in again to get the connection to work again on my laptop, which that alone we don't understand why, as there are periods of time we have no problems connecting on either end, like I just bought this laptop at Christmas and have had no connectivity problems until now. Now however, when we unplug the router and plug it back in, it kicks my brother's computer off the internet despite his connection being good prior to, apparently it loses its IP address when we do that. So then we have to unplug/replug the modem and router plus sometimes restarting my brother's computer to finally get it working again.
Well this one should be in the "Firmware DOs and DONTs" post. I updated to FW 1.11 over wifi and apparently this will corrupt the camera so it needs serviving. Would have been nice to know that before I did it. Since the upgrade from 1.02 1030 I get this note:The throughput of the SD Card on your camera is not currently enough for recording. We suggest you to reformat the SD Card or replace it with a higher class one.
I have been having no luck with DLink support getting an answer. I have the DCS-942L which allows me to set the date/time zone but when I try to add motion detection settings the page always times out during the save. I tried using CaT-5 CABLE instead of wifi for settings (camera on same router and desktop pc) but after the "saving" message appears, it eventually times out and I have to click the Back arrow to return only to find none of my settings saved. I also want to note that each time I log in I see a broken certificate error message. Using Win8 with IE10. Also tried on Win7 with IE9 and XP Pro with IE8.
