D-Link DIR-655 :: 5 Ghz Deletes Wireless Network
Jan 15, 2012
I have a dwa-556 adapter and dir-655 hub or router. I've read up on the 2.4 and 5 Ghz settings and decided to give it a try. Setting MODE to 11n(5 Ghz) g and d the Device Mgr resets the Network Adapter and I then check my Manage Network to find that the Wireless Adapter is now gone. Both d-link pieces of equipment support 5 Ghz. xmit.

Before I purchased the E3200 yesterday, I contacted Cisco Sales support and asked specific question about SNMP support on E3200. I was told that E3200 does supports SNMP.. However, I do not find any setup / nor any documentation on how to. Does E3200 supports SNMP? I would like to monitor my router using SNMP traps.

We purchased this router 6 months ago. It has been working perfectly fine with no issues whatsoever up until two days ago when suddenly our wireless network disappeared from the available networks. We have all the updated firmware. Originally we tried setting up a new network, that worked for about 20 hours before the network crashed again. Once it had crashed that time, I was just planning to wait it out until my husband got home so he could assist me with it but before he arrived him the network mysteriously reappeared. That night it once again disappeared. The following morning it was still lost, so I reset the router to the factory settings using the button on the back, and once my computer detected it router again I once again set up a new network. That worked and my connection was fine for about 12 hours this time before it once again crashed. I brought my laptop to connect it to the internet via the cable, and after when I disconnected it to leave the room the wireless was back up again.

I read the manual and went on the different options on [url],,,.1 and as far as I understood to set up a wireless password you need first to select WEP or WPAx. I did not see page 63 from the manual Section 4 Security "Enter a password between 2-20 characters. The router will generate a passphrase or key based on your password."

My internet speed was very slow so I re-set up my wireless network again. After re-setting up, my wireless network always disappears when all my wireless computer/phone get off the network for several seconds. When I try to get my wireless connection again, none of my devices can detect it. In addition, the light of the wireless sign on my router is constantly on (blue), but no device can detect the it. I always have to go to my wireless set up and save my setting again (no change to the current setting). What can I do to fix my wireless network, so it will be detectable at all times?

My Main Hardware:
D-Link DIR-615 Wireless Router (WPA2 encryption)
TalkTalk Broadband Modem (wireless turned off)
Windows 7 Desktop PC downstairs
Additional Wireless Devices:
Windows XP Net book
Nokia n900 Smartphone
Samsung Genio Slide phone
The net book and phones connect to the router wireless to receive an Internet connection. As a learning experience and a bit of fun, I wish to use my Windows 7 PC to spy on the activities of these wireless devices. E.g. I use the n900 to log in to a website and I want the PC downstairs to capture my log in details. Can this be done with WPA2 encryption? If not, if I drop the encryption down to WEP, how can I then achieve this? Since I am using my own network, on my own devices, this shouldn't be classed as illegal right?

I have a wireless router (D-Link DIR-625) connected to the modem for our high speed DSL. I have two Brother MFC printers, one is a laser (MFC-9420CN) connected w/ a Cat-5 directly to the router, the other is an ink-jet MFC-6490CN and I would like to use it wireless....but I could connect it to the router if I need to.I have wireless connection to the internet, from my HP 32-bit PC (running Vista-Ultimate), but can not see either of the printers on the network, and cannot print to either. I manually configured both to have an IP within the range of my network, but they still do not work. The problem (I think) could be with the IPCONFIG. (I had no problem last year, but we recently had a few power outages, and now the PC doesn't seem to 'see' any of the printers.) I checked the IPCONFIG. it states 'media disconnected', but I can ping the one wireless printer??? I can not ping the laptop on the network or the laser printer (I confirmed it's ipconfig before pinging).
I know the network card can't be bad, or I couldn't get to the router to access the internet. I also went into the cmd prompt as the administrator and did the /release/renew/all but that didn't work either.

I have recently moved and I brought my wireless router with me from my last home. The wireless router is a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N Router. I reconfigured the router with a new connection name, password and security key. Upon trying to connect to the wireless network once it was fully reconfigured (no problems reconfiguring whatsoever), I was getting the "Windows was unable to connect" message. Since then, I have been able to connect successfully to the network with an iPod Touch, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and my roommate's laptop. I have tried resetting the router and modem with no success. I can see the wireless network in the available connections list and other networks in my area. I can also connect to the internet through this router manually using an ethernet cable (which I am doing now, to post this message). I submitted my computer's specs using the SysInfo app given at registration.
I will also include an IPCONFIG /ALL as I have seen this requested in other threads like this one. These are the results of that: (note: this was run while connected through the wireless router using an ethernet cable)

I recently bought a windows laptop running vista to do windows testing on for web development (I use macs normally).I was shocked to find that I can't simply push connect, enter a key and then be connected to our home wireless network... no of course not because it's windows and nothing is easy or practical.Anyhow, before I go on an anti windows rant, I actually need this working. So at home we have a wireless network secured by a 32bit WEP key.On our macs I simply push connect, enter this key and we're away. With my new vista machine I go to Network & Sharing Center -> Connect to a network and click our network.I'm then immediately met with a screen that says "Press the configuration button on your access point". I have no idea what this means.Down the bottom of the screen there is an option that says "I can't find the configuration button... I want to enter the network key or passphrase instead" Which I click. The next screen I click "Enter/Select additional log on information" but this brings up a user name/ password/ login domain screen... I just want to enter my 32 bit key and be connected. I'm using a D-Link DIR-615 wireless router. Also, when I run "ipconfig" in the command prompt I get."Media State....: Media disconnected"

Thereafter only reboot brings it back. I checked for any latest firmware upgrade from admin page, but it says device already has the latest.

I've just replaced my aging ZyXel Wireless Router with a TD-W8970 which connects to the internet with no problems whatsoever. However, I have an ethernet connected Western Digital MyBookLive NAS which is happily allocated an IP addess but does not show up on my network on my PC (Windows Vista - fully patched). A usb connected pen drive and exactly the same. Am I missing something blindingly obvious? On the ZyXel the NAS worked with no problems whatsoever.
The problem with the NAS was my internet security Bitdefender. For some reason, on installing the TP-W8970, it switched my firewall status to public from home/office. Corrected that and the NAS can now be seen over the network. This does not fix the USB attached pen drive not being seen problem though.

I bought the DIR-655 last year and till within warranty. Yesterday, I lost the wireless network on my laptops but internet was working. I contacted the d-link support and during the process of troubleshooting the problem, the internet connection was also lost. I followed all instructions given to me by d-link teams that spoke with me but the problem was not resolved. I tried to call the d-link support but my calls were ignored . Up till now, the wireless and internet connections through DIR-655 are not working.

set up the wireless network at a friend's house, which is a large solid-brick house that winds from one end to the other. The current location of where the cable comes into the house is unfortunately on the far-left end of the house, which means that the right end of the house receives no signal from their DIR-825 wireless N router.
What I've been looking into is the best way to wirelessly extend the wireless signal to the other end of the house. It seems straightforward enough to use an ethernet cable and access point to extend a wireless network, but that is not really a good option for this house. After reading many forum posts (and not being an expert myself) it seems like it may be possible to wirelessly extend the wireless network with another router, although it appeared that this is much less common (if at all possible) with wireless N routers.
what device I need to accomplish what I've described above? Another router, or some kind of access point/bridge? I saw at least one rather expensive wireless N repeater online (a Hawking brand, I believe) but was hoping to avoid that option initially, but if that is the only way to go then so be it :-)

I have a working wired network and really all I want to do is set up my DIR-655 on it so that it provides internet only for wireless users, but doesn't allow access to the rest of the local network. I though that's what the Guest network would do, but when I connect to that I can still type in local IP addresses and get to those devices.
"Enable Routing Between Zones" is unchecked in the Guest Zone settings.

I recently bought a wireless N router (TL-WR841ND). I could connect my laptop to internet using the router but the problem is whenever I try to connect my phone to the wireless network, it goes on and off. It'll be on for a few minutes and then it is off and so on. By the way, the phone says you're still connected to the router but actually there is no real internet connection. But anyway, my laptop is connected to internet anyways!
I am living in a dormitory. And the website of the ISP is url... which provides dynamic IP. I have already tried different LAN IP adresses.I have already tried MAC Clone for WAN but nothing changes.I'm in a dormitory, there is also other routers here, could it because of conflicts with the other routers? I've tried changing the settings on my DLink wireless router, resetting it and my cable modem (by unplugging them and plugging them in again), and even restoring my iPod, but I cannot find my home wireless network! Both my iPod and my PC can find other networks, but not my own.My network is WPA-2 only, which my iPod should be able to see. The cipher type is TKIP. My wireless channel is 2.437GHz (channel 6, I can't change it). I even tried resetting my network settings on my ipod, with no luck.My router is a DLink DIR 615 wireless router and my computer is a PC that runs Windows 7. The router is able to connect to the internet; it's just the wireless portion that isn't working.

I have the D-link dir-655 wireless router connected at my cable modem and i HAD a d'link switch patched in about 40 feet away. The switch died after 45 days.To solve the problem and extend my network I purchased an identicaldir-655 router to replace the switch. My thought was that i would configure both routers the same and be able to use the same network settings to access the network throughout my house. It didn't work.I even tried changing the IP address on the second router but it did something to the modem. After resetting everything, the original router works again. D'link support says what i am trying cannot be done, but i know it can.

I have a wireless router (TP-Link) which I want to use to extend my wired dorm room cable connection. The "blue" network cable currently goes straight into my laptop and I have no control over its configuration. Is it possible to plug the blue cable into the WAN port of my router and then wire the computer back into a LAN port?BUT that's not really the major problem. Mainly I would like to know how the router must be configured to allow me to use other wireless devices in my room (phone printer etc).Someone told me that I "just" need to use the "bridge" setting but that turned out to be complicated by warnings and messages about other SSIDs.Is "bridge" really the right mode? It seems it's for connecting two wireless networks together.

My Home/Small Business network now utilizes several D-Link products. It is comprised of a DLink 205 cable modem (old but reliable and perfectly adequate for the speed I get from my ISP); 2 - DIR-825 Dual Band WiFi Routers (Primary - Rev B1; Secondary - Rev A1); a DLink 5-port Unmanaged Smart Switch (GO series); an HP Proliant N54L Microserver with 6 internal and 2 external HDD's (total of 19TB); 4-5 workstations (HP Laptops); 2 - Brother Laser Printers/Scanner/Copiers; a Toshiba Thrive Android Tablet; an iPad Tablet; Android Smartphones; iPhones; and a large screen HDTV. The Modem, WiFi Routers, Switch, and Server are connected together with CAT6E ethernet cable. The printers are USB 2.0 to the server. The external HDD's are USB 3.0 to the Server.
When I measure transfer speeds of Large files (single 30GB iso movie files) between HDD's internal to the Server and USB 3.0 external <=> internal, I can achieve transfer rates of 140MB/sec - 150MB/sec. This is the limitation of 7200rpm HDD's. When I measure the transfer rate from the Server to a Work Station by CAT6E ethernet cable (25ft length) connected to the DLink 5-port gigabit switch, I measure transfer speeds of around 65MB/sec - 70MB/sec with a peak transfer rate of around 95MB/sec. This is ok but not as fast as other people seem to get. I would be hope to see rates in excess of 100MB/sec. Theoretical maximum for 1GB being 125MB/sec but the specs on the ports say they should operate up to 2GB (250MB/sec).
Wireless transfer rates are where I really am having trouble. Transferring the same 30GB iso movie file over wireless between two Work Stations or between a Work Station and the Server gives a maximum transfer speed of 7.2MB/sec and an average transfer speed of around 4.5MB/sec. If I am streaming multiple streams and trying to transfer a iso file, the transfer speed drops down to as low as 350KB/sec. This is too slow.
My network is setup to do Bare Metal Backups of the Work Stations. This can entail transferring up to 100GB of mixed files to the back-up drives on the Server for each Work Station. At 4.5MB/sec it takes just under 7 hours to back up the Work Station. If multiple Work Stations are backed up, it takes longer. Too Long to be realistic.
How to increase the transfer speeds on the wireless network? I have seen other people post wireless transfer speeds for their networks in excess of 13MB/sec. If I could get 7MB/sec or above when backing up all the Work Stations simultaneously. That would be doable.

I have battling this issue since I bought this router, at least 2 years.
Using:
DIR-615
PC XP Wired
2 Acer laptops Vista wireless
All DHCP reserved
Security using wpa_psk
Not sure what other router info you need. All are connected to the internet, but can't see each other on the LAN. We can see each other from time to time. Sharing is allowed. Passwords are shared. I can power off the router and the network will be fine for about a day, then gone again. Workgroups are the same.

I have new DIR-615 D-link router. Since we installed it the network has disappeared randomly off the available networks list, and when I try and open Google Chrome it says there's DNS error. Troubleshooting through windows networks doesn't work because it can't find any problems since my network doesn't even show up on the list. We've even done a factory reset and the problem persists, and it does this about once a day. Resetting the router temporarily fixes the problem. This problem is happening on all 3 laptops in our home, two of which run windows 7 and one which runs XP.

Just upgraded my system. I am using D-Link 615 as access point hardwired LAN to LAN to ActiveTec MI424WR N capable Verizon Fios Wireless Modem/Router. The Fios Router is set up with WPA2 security. Intend on having three 615s as Access Points off of ActiveTec. Have a number of wireless devices accessing the network. Have followed instructions from manual to use 615 as Access Point, disabling UPnP and the DNCP Server function on the 615. My ActiveTec IP address is 192.168.1.1 and I changed the 615 to 192.168.1.50. I can type this IP address in my browser and get to the 615 set-up.
I have tried a couple different options in naming the SSID on the 615 set-up. If I name the SSID on the 615 the same as the ActiveTec router, when I go to Connect to a wireless signal where there is overlap, there are two signals that one can connect to, named the same SSID, the Fios is WPA2 secured and the 615 is not. Shouldn't these all be on one SSID? It seems that I have two different networks (different SSIDs) instead of one (rather than the 615 simply serving as an extension of the Fios router as a wired remote access point) with different security protocols (WPA2 and None). The SSID name almost seems meaningless. If I name the 615 SSID the same as the Fios router SSID or something different, I still have the option of selecting one SSID that is secure and one that isn't. If I try to connect to the SSID name associated with the 615 I can get on without providing a password. How do I make it so that one can walk around and go from one area to the next and seamlessly move to the best signal? I did read to select different sets of channels for each access point.
