D-Link DIR-655 :: Get Laptop On Internet Because It Shouldn't Be Using PPPoE For Wireless?
Feb 17, 2012
I have COX cable so DHCP would be the right way. My D-Link 655 wireless router is set for DHCP. I have a choice between PPPoE or DHCP so I pick DHCP. My wireless laptop is trying to connect to the Internet using PPPoE and won't connect. It will connect using Ethernet. How can I get my laptop on the Internet because it shouldn't be using PPPoE for wirerless?

I have TP-LINK TL-WR740N router and I am trying to configure it to work with my Broadband cable over PPPOE.The router once configured show status as connected with a proper IP and DNS servers. When I use the routers inbuilt ping utility to ping Google or any other site I get a reply. But when I connect my computer to the router on the LAN port I see no internet on my computer. I am able to ping the router address but not google.I tried disabling all Firewalls and Antivirus I have but problem still the same. Also I tried connecting over WIFI but still no internet.I also called up TP-LINK helpline several time and got my router replaced. They also tried a few settings on my machine but no success.

I would like to know what ip addresses I should see in this table. Shouldn't my default gateway IP have the same mac address as my computer or router? There are 2 different ip address/mac addresses from different a ISP than mine. I have a cisco DPC3825..I suspect a someone is spoofing my DNS.

I'm having issues with PPPoE connection. On a daily level, my connection breaks 1-5 times. In the past, it was related to signal problems, but ISP Tech. team fixed this some 10 days ago. Now, whenever I call them they say connection was broken on user request and ask me if I'm running services like torrents.
I don't run torrents and all I have is standard windows update services, nod 32, as well as steam client.
Here's router log from today when last error occured (I "blanked" some user-specific data like my username or MAC address).

I'm in an issue w/ on of our ISPs. We're using an ADSL line as a secondary light load line ( 16 MBit, /w PBR in place to separate the 80 and 443 from the business-critical applications running via a SDSL link. ).
I am on a 2611 XM with IOS 12.2, mated to a D-Link 321B modem running in transparent mode. After running smoothly for weeks, for a few days now, every night some time between 2 AM and 4 AM the link would die with the dialer showing:
Virtual-Access1 is up, line protocol is down Hardware is Virtual Access interface [code]....
To my knowledge, the only option to bring it up again is to reload the box . Taking into account that the router is our DHCP server and the date gets reset to 1994, interesting effects are the outcome of resetting the box.
Well, the ISP have checked their gear and keep saying that these report a "port error" ( quite unspecific ) and blame me that I have a wrong. config in place - which is here:
interface Dialer2
description ecotel Bridge
ip address negotiated
no ip proxy-arp

I have a DIR-655 Rev B1, FW 2.01 (I will probably upgrade the FW tonight to the latest.)
I have at least 20 items that connect wirelessly to this router (2 PCs, 2 Laptops, 2 Tivo Box, 3 Game Consoles, 3 Cell Phones, 2 Tablets, 2 TVs, Printer, AP Gateway, and some other projects) It's been a solid connection to everything for the past couple of years.
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 15r SE laptop (uses the Intel Centrion Wireless-N 2230 Wifi Solution.) After anywhere from 2 - 10 mins of browsing/watching a video/downloading files the access out to the internet simply stops.
At this point I'm still connected wirelessly to the router, and if I go to the router address I still have access and can login and see the router settings. I check and there's plenty of time left on the lease (days.) Still not getting internet access. Eventually my Laptop will disconnect and reconnect (or I do it manually.) I've performed hard resets of the router, I've had my laptop Forget the network and then reconnect, etc. Nothing has resolved it.
I thought it may be my laptop, but I've taken it to Starbuck, Work, Neighbors WiFi, etc and I don't have any problems staying connected on their networks.
I've had Dell on the line, we connected hardwired, and there solution was to force forget and reconnect to the router, which worked for the 10min he was on the line with me, but then failed soon after, and back in the same connectivity hell

I am using wrt54gx4. I have a IP camera connected to it. I can view the live images on the intranet and internet. Not too long ago my DSL company upgraded my DSL modem to a newer model. Then I can not connect to the internet by PPPoe. DHCP is fine. So the only connection type works is DHCP. But now I can not view the live images on the internet. I can only view the live images on intranet( I mean if I open web browser and type url.. is the port, I can view the live image).

I recently buyed a Linksys EA6500 wireless router. I accessed [URL] to access the settings interface of the router. Went to "Connectivity Internet Settings" and chose type of the internet connection as PPPoE. Entered the username and password, clicked ok.
No internet access.

I recently changed my internet connection to DSL from Cable, so now I'm using PPPoE type of connection.
Right now my router is configured as Automatic DHCP with the modem doing the PPPoE connection. All is fine and well.
Since I own a PS3, and Nat Type 3 conection is really bad for my online gaming, I would like to bridge my modem and connect to the internet through my router. That way I can properly forward my ports, use QoS and effectively get a better connection on the PS3.
I was able to successfully bridge the modem, but the PPPoE config on the router isn't able to connect to the internet.
Modem and router have been reinitialized after the configurations were changed. I do have the username and passwords, and they were properly put on the router.

I have a static IP at home and i have setup my Westell DSL modem to bridge - like the ISP told me too. Then i change my 655 to PPPoE username and password, but when i give it the static IP, it won't connect. But when i change it to DHCP, it connects. Is this a Router issue, or a ISP issue. I am leaning toward ISP, but i wanted to check with DLink first.

I've had a DIR-615 rev b for a while and have had it set up with PPPoE sign on. The DSL modem I am using is a Motorola 2210 setup in bridge mode. All was working well. I recently switched over to dry loop AT&T dsl from AT&T dsl over a voice line. After the switch, I am unable to sign on via PPPoE using the dir-615. If I bypass the router, I am able to gain internet access via modem PPPoE sign on. I've also switched modems (Actiontec DT701D) with the same results. What has changed that would prevent the router from PPPoE sign on? I've verified that all settings on the router were the same before and after the dry loop change (including password).

I recently purchased a DIR-825 (Hardware Version: B1, Firmware Version: 2.02NA) to replace my WRT54GS v2. I hooked it on my cable modem, configure it and everything went fine until I decided to change my ISP from cable to DSL.They connected my DSL line on Friday. Today I connected an old USRobotics SureConnect ADSL Ethernet Modem 219001 (it is a bridge only model) to the telephone jack and started to configure my DIR-825.Basically I changed WAN settings from DHCP to PPPoE, entered username and password and connected.
Unfortunately, what happened was:
- DIR-825 connected and then - nearly after 2 minutes - the connection was dropped
- testing with only my computer and the modem, everything went fine and fast
- sometimes, DIR-825 rebooted without notice
- sometimes, after saving Internet settings, it would connect only to disconnect a couple of minutes later
- most of the time it remained disconnected, after clicking on Connect (STATUS page), some lights flashed, but internet icon remained orange
Well, after more than 4 hours trying to figure out what was happening, I gave up. Then, after considering buying an ADSL router, I thought about testing my old WRT54GS.Took it from the box, hooked it on the USR modem, reset to factory configuration, configured PPPoE and at the first try it connected. No disconnects, no errors, no problems. So, I have to assume that something is wrong with PPPoE on the DIR-825 in this firmware.
Then it comes to firmware. clicking on Check Now with no internet connection says: "This firmware is the latest version". Talk of misleading!!!. I then downloaded the latest firmware (v 02.06) hoping for a solution. And, watch this! "The uploaded firmware file may not be correct..." So I downloaded another file, same error message. I disconnected the WAN cable because it says also "...it is possible that the gateway may be too busy..", tried to upgrade, same error message. Reset to factory setting, tried to upgrade, same error message.
Maybe the message could say "it is possible that this is a ****py router".I'm giving up and sticking with my old WRT54GS. Maybe someday I can upgrade the firmware and "it is possible" that PPPoE comes to work with my modem and ISP.

After I am on with Tech Support for 2 hours, they say the router is defective and will not work for Port Forwarding....!!
I have installed these in many locations and have not had a problem. ALL sites had a DHCP WAN.
I have PPPoE here on FIOS, with a great connection, no issues for 4 years. But lately my Intellinet Router has had to be reset 2-3 times a day, so I replaced it with the DIR-655 RevB.
Well, only for a little bit. The Dlink will NOT Port Forward... I need it to look at cameras, Remote Desktop, etc. Tech Support and I tried PF, and Virtual and DMZ with no luck. we tried many ports, with several internal IPs.
I have another DIR-655 in stock and it has the same results...
If I plug the Intellinet back in, all Port Forwarding works fine... no problem at all to any port. BUT it still has reset issues (not related to PF...)
Anyone else have PPPoE out there, with Port Forwarding issues?
I wrote Tech Support to notify me if they ever fix this glitch, and they sent back the instructions for Port Forwarding! Do they even read what we type?

I'm trying to find out what platforms support Multilink PPP with Link Fragmentation and Interleaving over a single link, when that single link is PPPoE. In searching the documentation, the best information I can find is that it seems to be supported in one direction on the ASR1000 url...Many platforms appear to support PPPoE and also MLPPP w/LFI, but it's not clear that both features are supported on the same link.
The application is a radio that has an Ethernet interface on its terrestrial link, and acts as an Ethernet bridge. Would like to use Multilink PPPoE with LFI in order to provide LFI in order to run VoIP over lower speed links (e.g 256kb). For what it's worth, the radio also supports RFC 5578 PPPoE Extensions for Credit Flow and Link Metrics. It was fairly easy to find what platforms support RFC 5578. But RFC 5578 would be used to support variation in the capacity of the link. If the link speed is fixed, RFC 5578 is not needed. I was trying to find if the set of platforms supported increase if the need for RFC 5578 is taken off the table.
In particular, I'd be interested in the whether the ASR 9000 series supports MLPPP bundles with LFI when the links are PPPoE.

I just got this router and it is working with my pc. wireless internet, however is not working despite trying to connect through a USB drive. My laptop which is what i'm trying to connect to the internet from is not picking up my server, and i'm wondering if the problem is that I have not used the cd that came with the router. My laptop does not have a cd drive and I do not have a portable drive to connect it to.

I have a wireless network set up in our small office. I just bought the DIR-655 and installed it (did have a very old Netgear router). I currently have two wireless printers, a MAC and a couple of iPhones that can connect to the network and internet. My desktop is plugged in and also connects fine. The BOSS just came in with his fairly new Win7 laptop and I connected it to the network, however, no matter what I try, it won't connnect to the internet. I can see his laptop in the network, it can see my computer and it says that it is connected to the network. It also says that it is not connected to the internet. I ran the troubleshooting (by clicking on the "X" between the network and the internet in the Network and Sharing Center) and it said it couldn't find the problem. The Win7 laptop has no problems connecting to the old network, nor any others that it encounters.

My D-Link won't allow my laptop to connect to the Internet through an Ethernet connection. I set up the router using a standard Ethernet patch cable and cloned the laptop's MAC address to connect through the Mediacom modem. I then decided to test out the wireless and got that all set up, works perfect. Now I cannot connect to the Internet using the Ethernet cable.

- Restrict Internet usage on every single laptop
- restrict downloading and uploading from those laptops

I have been using DD-WRT firmware on my Linksys WRT160v3 for more than a year. I never used a PPPoE internet connection on my router. So, I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong which causes me "NO INTERNET CONNECTION". It seems to me that the router itself can connect to the internet. But, I cannot get any internet on my pc or wirless device (neither on LAN or WiFi). I tried sharing the internet through my laptop using connectify-me. And, I was able to share my internet to my mobile devices (WiFi) without any problem.

We currently use a linux software based firewall called IPCop that sits between our network and router (This is in bridged mode) IPCop conects over PPPoE and everything works fine.
However the system is not reliable and I fear not that secure so have purchased an ASA5505 now I have added the PPPoE info to the device using the ADSM software however although it picks up my external static IP I'm unable to access the internet. On IPCop I only had to enter the broadband credentials and it worked however I feel like I may have to add more to the Cisco, for example do I have to specify DNS servers and do I have to set a static route?
Here is my config file so far (Note I think I have turned on the ability to ping from internal to external). My config I have done through the ADSM as opposed to the CLI

I have recently moved and I brought my wireless router with me from my last home. The wireless router is a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N Router. I reconfigured the router with a new connection name, password and security key. Upon trying to connect to the wireless network once it was fully reconfigured (no problems reconfiguring whatsoever), I was getting the "Windows was unable to connect" message. Since then, I have been able to connect successfully to the network with an iPod Touch, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and my roommate's laptop. I have tried resetting the router and modem with no success. I can see the wireless network in the available connections list and other networks in my area. I can also connect to the internet through this router manually using an ethernet cable (which I am doing now, to post this message). I submitted my computer's specs using the SysInfo app given at registration.
I will also include an IPCONFIG /ALL as I have seen this requested in other threads like this one. These are the results of that: (note: this was run while connected through the wireless router using an ethernet cable)
