I have a TA790GXB A2+ Ver. 6.x motherboard. I have windows 7 installed in it. I have a pppoe connection for internet. Its drops abruptly. Where as i installed Linux on it and it works fine. (Fedora 16)
View 1 RepliesI have a Cisco/Linksys E2500 router that I have had for over a year and it has worked without issues for over a year. However my wireless ISP just switched my CPE from A Mikrotik wireless radio to a Ubiquiti wireless radio. As soon as they did this my PPPOE sessions from the E2500 (acting as my PPPOE client) start disconnecting and reconnecting every few minutes causing major problems with my internet and voip connectivity when it looses connectivity every few minutes.
The strange things is if I connect my much older WRT54G router as a PPPOE client (with the same exact PPPOE configuration), it works just fine and I don't have any PPPOE disconnects.
I upgraded to the latest firmware on my E2500 and nothing changed, it still disconnects my PPPOE sessions probably close to 50 or 100 times an hour.
I'm thinking it's some sort of compatibility issue between the Ubiquiti Nanobridge Radio CPE and the E2500 router acting as my PPPOE client. Also another thought was that perhaps my ethernet port wasn't negotiating speed/duplex correctly on the E2500.
Is there any way to hard code the speed/duplex on an E2500? I can't seem to find any spot with that setting.
My internet cuts out every half hour for a few minutes. I have had this problem through two routers. I use a cable to connect my computer to my router. I have another comuter connected via a wire and wireless devices.

The drop out occurs even if only one of the computers is on, usually the ASUS emachines E525. On the ASUS, I am running Windows 7 Home on the ASUS with Avast Antivirus and firewall. Tested using Win7 onboard system. Says everything was ok. Yet the wireless is not "on" on the 1520 laptop. Purchased a new one; had no OEM software. Purchased Win764 bit Pro version. When I uninstall the software my connection is fine. I am using an Ethernet connection by the way. I think it is being blocked by the component called Network iControl. Then I can watch a few more minutes and it stops again. And again, and again......I have cable inernet service (Brighthouse Communications), with the E42000 connected to the cable modem. Then I have a Panasonic WiFi adaptor (DY-WL10) plugged into a USB port on my Panasonic Viera TV. I have the latest firmware on the router (1.3.03, build 14).I have done the routine of re-cycling the network by re-setting the router (and re-setting it up) and the modem.The chat session guys had me do the following:
1) Uncheck “Filter anonymous request”.
2) Click on Setup Tab - Here you will see MTU.
3) Select Manual & set the size to 1364
4) On Wireless tab, clicked on manual, change the Channel for the 2.4 Ghz network to 9.
5) When we tried it on the 5Ghz wireless they had me set the channel Width to 40MHz Only, and set to channel – 161
I also tried setting up port range forwarding. My e4200v2 which I have been using for about 4 months locks up or freezes regularly - as often as once or twice a week. That is to say the wired laptop can't reach the router and the smart phone does not have a signal. This often happens when there is no phone or computer running. My current firmware is 2.0.37 and it just happened again. The logging capability is absolutely terrible so you can't tell why or when it went down, and what happened just before it went down. I pull the plug on power and when it comes back the log is clean. avoid the freezing/lockup or for logging incoming and outgoing with timestamps?

So, I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong which causes me "NO INTERNET CONNECTION". It seems to me that the router itself can connect to the internet. We currently use a linux software based firewall called IPCop that sits between our network and router (This is in bridged mode) IPCop conects over PPPoE and everything works fine.
However the system is not reliable and I fear not that secure so have purchased an ASA5505 now I have added the PPPoE info to the device using the ADSM software however although it picks up my external static IP I'm unable to access the internet. On IPCop I only had to enter the broadband credentials and it worked however I feel like I may have to add more to the Cisco, for example do I have to specify DNS servers and do I have to set a static route?

It's a Windows 7 Pro 64bit machine with a (newly installed) Asus P8H67 pro motherboard and an Edimax ew-7612pln pci-e card, the router is a thompson 585v8 router with the latest firmware on (upgraded as part of troubleshooting). I upgraded the wireless card drivers one time whilst it was disconnected, it appeared to work for a few hours but then dropped again it also went through a phase of connecting to the router as an 'unidentified network' with no internet access although I don't believe it was attaining an IP address. When it was connected the internet was pretty slow and anything like a file down load would knock it off completely. There were no errors at the time of disconnection in the event log (bar a DNS error or two saying it could not locate the website I was trying to get to before it failed), however the only information type events I noted were a few services stopping and starting and an odd one regarding the host not being able to find the 'master browser' which was identified as another laptop on the wireless network.
The machines are not in the same work group or in a domain, all other laptops and devices on the network work fine and are very stable - as was this one up until a couple of weeks ago. I've uninstalled a couple of pieces of software that were recently installed ; VMware player (which added virtual NICs upon installation and funnily enough made the wireless reconnect after a few hours of downtime upon installation...but the effect was shortlived) and some asus mobo utilities.
I have a Motorola modem SURFBoard SB4200, along with a wireless Linksys router that connects to that modem. The router works normally but the modem often dies and restarts itself after about 1-2 minutes.
What could be causing this problem? How should I start debugging it?
Could an excessive amount of network traffic be bringing down the modem? Are there any tools that can monitor the modem?

I have COX cable so DHCP would be the right way. My D-Link 655 wireless router is set for DHCP. I have a choice between PPPoE or DHCP so I pick DHCP. My wireless laptop is trying to connect to the Internet using PPPoE and won't connect. It will connect using Ethernet. How can I get my laptop on the Internet because it shouldn't be using PPPoE for wirerless?

Not too long ago my DSL company upgraded my DSL modem to a newer model. Then I can not connect to the internet by PPPoe. DHCP is fine. So the only connection type works is DHCP. View 6 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing random disconnects from the internet -- they have been occurring about 1-3 times per day, although I've just had four in the last 20 minutes.
ISP: Wow! Cable - 15/1Mbps
Modem: Motorola SB6121 (new)
Router: D-Link DIR-655 (new) Firmware 2.00NA
When the internet disconnects:
- Both the LAN & the WAN are affected, but I do not lose any wireless connectivity with the router itself.
- I am able to log into the router wirelessly but cannot access the modem.
- If I plug my laptop directly into the modem, I can connect to the internet.
- When I reboot (using the on/off switch on the surge protector), everything comes back up.
There are a couple of other wireless routers nearby with fairly strong signals, but they appear to be running on different channels.
My phones are DECT 6.0, so there shouldn't be any interference problems with those.
I've been poking around this forum, and have already made some setting changes that seem to be consistently recommended:
- Ensured DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual
- Turned off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
- Turned off Advanced DNS Services
- Turned on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
- Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
- Ensured devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
- Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
- Using mixed G and N signal mode
- My security setting is WPA-Personal. WPA2-PSK
I am trying to connect to the internet using the PPPoE feature of the router but the router configuration is not successful. Says something like "WAN connection not successful". I have supplied the correct username and password. The connection is ok in my laptop if i directly connect my laptop to the Ethernet port of the modem without the router. Is this a sharing problem from the ISP?

When I use the routers inbuilt ping utility to ping Google or any other site I get a reply.But when I connect my computer to the router on the LAN port I see no internet on my computer. Right now my router is configured as Automatic DHCP with the modem doing the PPPoE connection. All is fine and well.
Since I own a PS3, and Nat Type 3 conection is really bad for my online gaming, I would like to bridge my modem and connect to the internet through my router. That way I can properly forward my ports, use QoS and effectively get a better connection on the PS3.
I was able to successfully bridge the modem, but the PPPoE config on the router isn't able to connect to the internet.
Modem and router have been reinitialized after the configurations were changed. I do have the username and passwords, and they were properly put on the router.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having an issue with my internet connection. I have AT&T Uverse high speed internet, complete with the Motorola NVG510 ADSL modem. For the past couple weeks, my download speeds have gone from 1.0 MB/s to < 100 KB/s up to 400 KB/s if I'm lucky.I used to be able to download files and watch videos at the same time with very little trouble, but now I only have enough bandwidth to either do one or the other without causing any problems. I thought my ISP had throttled my bandwidth, but I've run the Glasnost tests at url... and it came back as fine.It may not mean anything, but I should note that a few weeks ago, we had storms move through the area and lightning struck our house. It ended up shocking my mom through the USB mouse while she was using my computer, it blew out one of my computer speakers, and I believe it's the reason why the ethernet port on my motherboard no longer works.
