Apr 8, 2012My router was working fine. Then 1 day I started having slow internet. My ping in games would jump up from ~60 to about 400-800. Did some troubleshooting with my ISP. Seemed like my modem was to blame. So I bought a Netgear one from BestBuy.
Everything was fine. Then 1 day the internet stated disconnecting. None of the computers could see the router in the wireless networks. I found the only way to solve the problem is to unplug the power and plug it back in. Strangely it seems to happen a lot late at night like around 11PM or 12 midnight EST.
Before with my old modem I just had automatic settings and DHCP. With the new modem it wouldn't work so I called DLink and the tech guy walked me through some steps, one of which was changing the ip address from 192.256.0.1 to 10.10.10.1. Whenever I reboot the router after a disconnect the computers say "there was an IP address conflict." Maybe this has something to do with it?
I saw in another topic someone said their router's time was wrong. Mine said it was 2010 so I updated it to automatically sync with ntp1.dlink.com and now it shows 2012. Let's see if it fixes now. My mom's laptop had a similar problem with Skype. For some reason the clock kept resetting to 2000 and Skype would not work (everything else did). When she resets the time to 2012 it starts working again.
D-Link DIR-655 :: Router Needs Constant Rebooting?
Jan 30, 2012I just got a DIR-655, and I got it working, with some effort. However, the wifi stops connecting to the internet every few hours and requires a reboot. Only a reboot of the wifi portion of the router's software, I go to Manual Wireless Connection Setup and save it without changing anything. LAN connections don't experience this.

D-Link DIR-601 :: Constant Blocked Incoming TCP Ack Packet Messages In Log?
Nov 27, 2011Using a Samsung Galaxy S2, iPod Touch 3rd Gen, and Nook Color, they are all experiencing retry problems, even when 3 feet from the DIR-601. When I use them my log gets filled with messages like:Blocked incoming TCP Ack packet from 192.168.100.201:2926 to 209.85.145.113:80 with unexpected sequence On the devices I see the downloads/content taking a long time to appear and often I get a blank page or "Retry" messages. I purchased two DIR-601s and get the same problem with both. They are both running 1.02NA firmware. The WLAN is Time Warner cable modem. Prior to this I had a Linksys WRT-54 that gave great performance, though just at B/G speeds. I was hoping for a performance boost but right now the N speeds are slower than B with the retries.

Nov 13, 2011I'm running a D-Link DIR-655 Hardware Version A3, Firmware Version 1.21. In the past, it has been flaky, and I considered updating to the latest firmware (1.3+ something), but everywhere I read (mainly this forum) said it might be WORSE for the router and couldn't even be downgraded, so I decided to ride it out.
Eventually the problem disappeared and I forgot about it, but now it's back with a vengeance. Recently I opened up a Guest Zone so my neighbors could borrow wifi, and I occasionally run torrents. Torrenting seems to definitely crash the router overnight, while it also seems to randomly bug out, possibly when the neighbors are using the Guest Zone. The Guest Zone might be responsible, but I have no idea.
For what it's worth, I don't think my neighbors are terribly tech-savvy, so I doubt they're filesharing or doing anything risky. They might have malware installed, but I don't know.
Is there a way I can diagnosis my precise issue, should I go ahead and update to the latest firmware to try?
D-Link DIR-615 :: Toshiba Will Keep 3 Bars Of Signal / Will Not Keep Constant Connection To Internet
Dec 17, 2011I just got a new 2011 Toshiba Satellite L755 laptop with Windows 7, I also have a 2006 Compaq Presario with the original Windows Vista. We use a DIR-615 router for WIFI connection on both. The old Compaq will keep a connection with no problem and never looses a connection. The new Toshiba will keep 3 bars of signal but will not keep a constant connection to the internet. Do I need to upgrade my router, which I bought the one I have about 3-4 years ago, or could it possibly be a problem with my new computer?

Jun 20, 2011I just purchased a Netgear router and installed it like it said on the directions. I have internet through Time Warner Cable. I did have a crappy phone before I got the router and it made a popping noise on it too, but I got a new phone and it was fine. Sep 13, 2011I have just replaced my 54Mbps Wireless-G router (Sky Broadband/Netgear - black, looks like a SkyHD box) with a 300Mbps Wireless-N TP-Link TD-W8960N router, I have also upgraded the the standard 3dBi antennas with a pair of TP-Link ANT2408CL 8dBi high-gain anetnnas.
However when using various WiFi analysis apps I'm getting a signal strength averaging -35dBm and noise of -96dBm when in the same room as the router. But the main bit confusing me is that this is in ALL configurations - with my old Wireless-G router, with the new Wireless-N w/ 3dBi antennas, and with the new Wireless-N w/ 8dBi antennas.
Am I misunderstanding the signal/noise thing or is this Wireless-N router not giving me a better signal at all? I plan on installing an identical setup in a property with patchy Wireless-G coverage next week and I was hoping this exact kit would be the solution.I have tested with two laptops and I am getting 130Mbps link with both, but I understand this is typical of laptop hardware. I don't have any devices with a certified 300Mbps card installed to test with.

Mar 12, 2013Comparing my brand new linksys x3000 (Firmware Version:v1.0.03) with my old zyxel p660hw I see that the linksys is running a downstream noise margin of 8.2dB while the old zyxel is running a downstream noise margin of 15dB. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. why the linksys value should be so much lower?

May 2, 2012So this problem seemed to come out of nowhere, I have no idea why it started. Basically, when I use my internet, eg: opening link, loading video or downloading randomly my speakers make a grinding noise and until the noise stops (can be 1-10 seconds) my internet drops (the internet icon on the bottom right shows it is still connected but nothing loads until the noise stops. Even then, the noise can drop in and out like 10 times in a minute and is constantly messing up the internet.
my speakers are Logitech (doubt that makes much difference as I doubt the problem is linked to them and my LAN card is some Ralink thing, nothing special. Here is a low volume recording of the noise, turn up your speakers to hear it well.
Networking :: High Pitch Noise Coming From Motherboard When Ethernet Cable Plugged 7970
May 9, 2013This has been driving me absolutely crazy but I am glad to have found the source of it. Over the past 4-5 weeks ever since i built my new computer, my computer has always had this wierd high pitch noise. I dont know if its coil whine or not, but the sound signature is def not the same as the coil whine that comes from my 7970 card. It sounds more digital.
What could be the cause of this? And what would the remedy be? My ethernet cable is approx 60 ft so it will be a pain in the ass to replace. Or buy another NIC?
edit: forgot to mention....the noise is constant. Not intermittent with usage. No amount of load or idle on the network changes the noise.
Constant Disconnection From Router 2 To 1

My friend wanted me to set up his home network.because the modem is unable to supply a good wireless connection to the rest of the household when the door is closed, a second router was needed.I set both routers to run with DHCP as they have many devices that needs to connect to the router for internet. However, a few hours after setting it up, my friend's pc as well as all devices connected to the second router faced issues. The router's interface showed that it does not have connection to the internet. they are still facing this problem until now.

Sep 12, 2011I currently live in a fairly-large apartment in Downtown San Francisco and as you can probably imagine, I have ALOT of interference with nearby residential and business wifi's, microwave's, cell-phones and all that jazz.
I currently have the ATT Elite DSL package, which is I believe the 6MBPS(?) package? Anyway, it's the $40 package and I want to say it's either the second or third up from the basic 19.95/month subscription. Here's my problem: ever since I moved into this building, I get signal drops on my ATT all the time--like at least once an hour if not more often. I had a technician check the wiring and he even replaced the router box (they always do) in hopes of improving the situation but so far, no dice.
I have tried switching to different channels after using scanning to see what channels other internet users nearby were using, but I did not see any improvement.The best solution I've been able to come up with is to set my router to be on 802.11B only. For the most part,I have not disconnected but I do feel a certain amount of slow-down or lag compared to my 802.11G settings.Now,I might be paranoid but it certainly does take a good amount of time longer to load up pages and such as compared to previously.The tech suggested I look towards getting an 802.11A/N router, but alas ATT does not support routers of that caliber...not sure why. It's been years and they're still stuck with the 2Wire 2701HG-B model for DSL.

Sep 17, 2011I am an unlucky person who still has a belkin router. Not only do i have a belkin router, my PC is also connected via 2 switch boxes all ethernet cabled together in and around the house.
I am unable to forward and ports succesfully because after i have saved the settings i check it with a port checking site and it says they're all closed.
I have also been getting disconnected from my router when its under stress (Most recently playing League of Legends) but my Dad's Pc (Which is only connected to the Belkin) still stays connected and hasn't experienced any disconnections.
My router model is F5D7634-4 v2, DHCP is enabled but only my Dad's PC appears, UPnP is enabled but doesn't seem to work and my fireware is up to date.
I used to have a different router before this one which never had these disconnecting problems.
Constant Wifi Disconnections - 5 Routers
Jul 30, 2011Ive been through 5 routers. All of them, except ONE has had a very annoying problem. The WiFi disconnects like anything randomly. The funny thing: The 4 that disconnect have all been working on 802.11n 300mbps. The 802.11g DG834Gv5 is as solid as a rock, maintaining connection for months on end, no wireless dropouts. Ive tried fiddling with the 4 routers (DGN2200, DG834N, Belkin N1 Vision, and another one ive forgotten), putting them onto 54mbps, which always works perfectley. When its on 145mbps or 300, they disconnect. No pattern, just fall off. When reconnecting, I can see them in the network selection thingy, but it just gives me the error 'Cannot connect to XXXX', only solution is to turn off the wireless radio and turn it back on via router interface.

Sometimes it works great, other times it will essentially cease to function as it tries to sync to bells lines, it seems to be worse at night from what I've seen. I have called my ISP over 4 times, had 3 separate techs come to my house and replace everything from the router to the Internet port down the road.The only thing that has not been replaced is the actual phone jack in my wall but every tech has looked at it and said its functioning fine. I am at a loss, and on the verge of canceling my service with my ISP at this point. Problem is I cannot get rogers for various reasons, so bell is my only option for high speed internet, so canceling with them sorts leaves me high and dry.

Apr 23, 2012I have a medialink USB adapter and medialink wireless router. I've had them configured for a couple of months and both seem to work fine. The issue is with only one system (main desktop computer running windows 7 64bit). I shut the system down over this past weekend and when I came back today, it said that it could not connect to the network and that the settings saved for my wireless network were incorrect.
After much frustration and googling, I finally performed a hard reset of my router (tiny button in the back) and redid all of the security settings (different SSID, different password). I finally got my desktop to connect to the network. When I connected, windows prompted me saying that I was sharing an IP address with another computer on this network. I canceled out of the prompt and my wifi worked fine. However, my computer has been randomly disconnecting from the network every few minutes for the last hour or so. I have to manually reconnect to the network every time this happens and it does not seem to stay connected for long periods of time. All other systems on the network (laptop and phone) do not have this problem.
Additional note: When first trying to fix the problem (before hard reset), I disabled the "Bonjour" service in windows AND ran the following command: netsh int ip reset C: esetlog.txt per a suggestion on a forum. I'm not sure if this would have changed anything even after the reset.
Cisco Switches :: Sg 300-52 Constant Activity?
Apr 29, 2012we recently purchased a sg300-52. i was told i would need to setup a port trunk to connect it our main catalyst. However, i was able to connect a patch cable on the two devices and ping endpoint devices on both switches. I also noticed that the activity lights are constantly blinking. I'm not sure why. Is there something i can do to slow the activity light? it blicks constantly even in times of very low activity by the endpoint.
