DNS Server In Router?

Dec 1, 2011

Are there any DHCP routers that also host a DNS server which behaves as follows:A request for a host in the LAN is satisfied by dipping into the router's DHCP table A request for a host outside the LAN is passed on to the ISP's DNS server The vendors' documentation and tech support are not clear about this.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 / Add A Mail Server In The LAN And A Webmail Using Port 3000 On The Server?

Jul 24, 2011

I'am using ASA 5510 and I try to understand how PAT is working.I want to add a Mail Server in the LAN and a webmail using port 3000 on the server. ( webmail must be reachable from the WAN)This is my Configuration :actually LAN users access internet using NAT with one global IP ( 194.x.x.69) which is the ASA WAN interface.

WAN ----- ISP Router ----------     FW     ---------- LAN -------- Mail Server + Webmail
|             (25) | (3000)
194.x.x.69    192.168.1.254                     192.168.1.6

I need to forward port 3000 and port 25 from outside to inside. For example, from the WAN : [URL] must be redirect toward 192.168.1.6:3000 . What is the Correct Configuration ? And what about the Inside/Outside Traffic,Is there any configuration to add ?

MSCHAPv2 / Setup Secure VPN Server Using Windows Server 2012 Without Domain?

Jan 10, 2013

i've been using a VPN to connect to my home network from elsewhere for a few months. It's set up as follows:

PPTP
Maximum Strength Encryption
EAP-MSCHAP-v2 Authentication

Now I find out that MSCHAPv2 authentication has been broken and is no longer considered secure (even by Microsoft), so I want to change the protocol I'm using to make it secure.

However, I've spent 3 hours now researching this and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use a better protocol on my Windows Server 2012 home server. I've tried setting up PEAP authentication (still PPTP) a la Microsoft's recommendation document, but it requires a certificate. I've created a self-signed certificate but it seems I can't issue certificates (via this method) without being a member of a domain, so I'm stuck. I can't even get started with L2TP since I can't find the option for it.

My question is this: Is there a way to setup a secure VPN server using Windows Server 2012 without a domain? If so, how do I do this?

Cisco Application :: CSS 11503 - Server-to-server Load Balancing?

Is this the right way to do it?I've never NATted using CSSs, so I wanted to verify what I'm thinking. Our current config trunks the vlans -

interface 1/1
   trunk
   vlan 1
    default-vlan
  vlan 555

Use 2nd Router With USB Port As NAS / FTP Server?

Oct 6, 2011

I've been trying to set this up on my own for quite a while now and can't get it to work! I'm wondering if this is even possible...so here's what have:

- verizon fi-os service
- primary router (from verizon) connected to internet via coaxial cable.

- Asus WL-500W router
- 1TB USB external harddrive

I wanted to use the ASUS router as a primary and attach my HDD so I could use it as NAS / FTP server, but I have to use the verizon router because I can only connect to internet via coaxial connection. So basically what I want to do is to take my ASUS router (attached to external HDD) and connect it to my primary router so I can access my HDD on the network. It would be nice to use it as NAS but I also want to try to use it as FTP file server.

New Router For Small Server?

Dec 8, 2012

My father has a small office at home with a server, used to store some files and software he uses and provide a stable network for the house. The network looks something like this:

-Our wall socket line runs to a modem we have from our ISP

-The modem then is connected to our server computer

-Which is in turn connected to a switch

-...where the computers and a router are connected to

This was set up by some computer company. Now for the question: we have used the router connected to the switch to connect wirelessly to the server to receive emails on our mobile phones (email runs via the server too). Also, my father syncs his Outlook diary on his phone this way. Apparently this doesn't work when connected to the modem, I guess because that signal hasn't been processed by the server yet. Now we are unable to connect to the router, presumably because it is quite old and ready for a replacement.

The question is: Can I just replace it with some random router and expect it to work? Or do I need a more specific router/more specific settings in the router to make this work again?

Internet And Server On Same Router?

Jun 26, 2011

I have a wireless router which provides my internet. In another room is where I have all of my computers. I am setting up a home server with WHS 2011 on it to do backups of 3 computers, file sharing, and hosting some LAN games. So I am buying a wireless router for my computer room that my server will be the WAN (I believe that's how I'd do it, correct me if I'm wrong). I also want to have internet on this router as well to provide a better signal. So I guess what I'm asking is if I plug in my server as the WAN, how would I also get internet to broadcast from the same router? Or is it possible? If not, how do you recommend I set things up.

Router Configuration For Home Server

Oct 9, 2011

I'm trying to run a server for a java application called mekwars. The program needs ports 2347 and 4867 open. I have obtained an ip address from my ISP and registered with dyndns. I can ping my public ip address (my router)I can access my server from any other computer in the LAN. My router is a Zyxel p660hn-T1a. I have configured port forwarding of both ports to my server.I have disabled the firewall in the router and restarted it.My server is running CentOS 6. I have opened the ports in the server iptables, I don't think this is the issue as I can connect from my lan to the server. When I try to connect (from within my lan) to the public ip address of my server the program tells me it cannot find the server. I can't telnet to port 2347 and nmap tells me that the only ports that are open are 22, 23 and 80 ( I believe this are open by default on the router to allow remote management).I can telnet from the lan. My networking isn't great and I'm used to having an "ip passthrough" option on the router to assign to my server. I do have it set as the default router in port-forwarding so I had hoped this would be a similiar option.

Do I have to set a static route in addition to port forwarding or could I have port forwarding configured incorrectly? I'm also considering the router may be at fault and I've emailed my ISP to make sure they're not filtering the ports before they reach my router.

How To Use Windows Server 2008 As Router

Sep 4, 2012

I am involved in a huge project that requires Servers PCs to function as Routers in schools to prevent broadcast traffic issues (Thread here: Need Professional Advice on 3 MANs implementations - Long story short: Can't buy regular routers because of budget and neet to use current equipment to make the network work, that is, Windows Servers 2008 with 2 NICs.

Now to the point. We are making tests but can't make Static routes to work properly. Design is as follows:

Now we have seen that we need to use this command (in cmd) to add a static route in W2008:

route add [NETWORK DESTINATION] mask [SUBNETMASK] [GATEWAY] if [NIC]

Q1: What exact command(s) do we have to use to make the Laptop in 10.10.10.0 to access Internet? How would you fill those fields based on the diagram?
Q2: How many Static routes do we need to declare? I am guessing we just need one, but I have been told that I need to activate two (one for packets sent by the laptop to the router, and one for the packets sent by the router to the laptop?)

We have tried several combinations and can't make laptop to access Internet, not even to ping 192.168.1.5. We have just accomplished pinging to 192.168.1.181 from the Laptop, and to ping 10.10.10.2 from the Server but that's as far as we went.

How To Ping ISP Server With A Router In The Setup

Mar 15, 2013

About my internet setup, I receive internet from my ISP via the LAN cable. The IP is static, provided by the ISP. To use the internet, I have to login to their server using a username and password.Earlier, I did not have a router. So, to see if the ISP server was up, I could just ping the IP of the ISP server from my computer using the command prompt, and it would show whether it was up.However, since I got a router, I find that I cannot ping the ISP server from the computer directly as before. To ping the ISP server, I have to open the router administration page using the browser, then use its diagnostics feature to ping the ISP server. It shows only a few pings, and is not like the continuous ping that can be seen when you run ping from the command prompt. So, it's difficult to see the pings, and also diagnose. Also, sometimes the router pages do not open and get stuck, even after being refreshed. Is there any way, or any setting, by which I can ping the ISP server from the command prompt on the computer? Do I have to make changes in firewall settings of computer, or any settings in the router? Why can't I ping the ISP server directly from the computer?I am using Windows 8. The firewall of Windows 8 is on, and the hardware firewall on the router is off.

How To Configure Router As Proxy Server

I am not able to access internet on more than one computers simultaneously because router allows only single IP and I am not sure what are the WAN IP's uses Access Point provided by ISP eg. Gateway : 192.19.20.1
DNS: 192.168.20.1
Alt DNS : 192.168.20.1

My public IP address is 180.87.210.26.

Is there any option to add a router to bride or configure router as proxy server so that i can access internet more than one PC's simultaneously.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Router Connection With Server?

Feb 23, 2012

Having router issues that is definitely not the routers fault, and most likely not the modem's. I currently have a DIR-655 in place here but have gone through 4 routers and 2 modems trying to resolve this problem.we were having trouble staying connected to a terminal server and would lose access to its URL which is set up with DynDNS. We switched service providers and all was well for a wile until our wireless started to drop, at the time we had a Netgear VPN and a Netgear Access point, and the network would just drop until the router was rebooted, sometimes 2-3 times a day and it would become a morning ritual to reboot the modem/router first thing. We removed the Netgear AP and turned on the wireless on our VPN and tried that along with a new modem, we replaced both with a Cisco VPN with wireless, we migrated to a software vpn solution and installed the current D-link router and the next day the same thing happened, I then replaced the power strip that was feeding the router and modem and that fixed.

Cisco LAN :: 891 Router DNS Server Without Domain Name

Nov 8, 2012

I have a 891 router setup as the local DNS server and external lookups from connected devices (and the router cli) work fine. I'm having problems getting internal host lookups working though.

this is relevent part of the config, router ip address is 192.168.100.9:

no ip dhcp use vrf connected
ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.100.1

[Code]....

If I put rearswitch. (i.e. add a single full stop at the end of the hostname) it resolves fine. The same behaviour happens with other hosts defined with the ip host command. Is it possible to use local hostnames without a domain name or full stop?
