Can't Access Server Through Router?
Sep 27, 2011
I have a small office network with a domain and a server. When I added a router to one of my computers, it is no longer able to access the server (which is not on the router). I'm hoping this is a simple fix.

I have a problem with the e4200 router and a mybook 1 TB connected to it. The media server works fine but after a while i loose contact with the router and the server this means that the Cisco connect doesn't work, the 192.168.1.1 doesn't work and I can't find the disk via \. I do have internet connection via wifi as im using it now....why I loose connection to the router? The lease time is 24h and it can happen more than once in a day.

I have an RV042 Router and did a one-to-one NAT mapping for my server using an additional external IP I received from byt ISP, pointing to machine 192.168.2.5. I am now successfully able to access the machine via the external IP without issue, however the server is no longer able to ping any external IPs?
the machine has been assigned a static IP of 192.168.2.5 and static DNS servers.

I'm setting up WHS 2011 for the first time. When attempting to set up Remote Web Access, WHS continues to recoginze my E4200 model information and router IP address but delivers the message 'Remote Web Access to Your Server is Blocked'. Cisco and MS say the router is compatible with WHS and that it should set up through the wizard but no luck following many attempts, including manual set up of DHCP Reservation and Single Port Forwarding on ports 80/443 (not sure I did this correctly).
I've taken the router back to default settings with the exception of enabling Remote Management under the Remote Management Access section of the Administration menu tab; tried again with the same result. What settings to change to make this work?

I saw it's possible to use an USB drive/stick with the builtin FTP server to allow file access.Would it also be possbile to have the router function as webserver for external access from USB ? Just simple web functionality needed, no php or MySQL.Don't want to be running an extra machine 24x7 just to serve some html code.

I use to run Twonky media server on my iMac and I was very happy with it. Now I have purchased a Linksys Wifi Router E4200. Twonky server embedded works fine with all my devices except with my Samsung D8000 Led TV. In the Mac version I must identify manually the player (Samsung TV), if not mkv won't play. The question is: How can I select the device in the Linksys E4200? The config page is not available and displays "Access is restricted to mediaserver configuration" E4200 firm V. 1.0.03

PPTP works fine only on rv042 subnet but i am not able to access the "internal" network of TMG.RV042 (172.16.1.1) ---> TMG [external] (172.16.1.2) ---> TMG [internal] (192.168.1.1) Is there any way through static route to access the TMG internal network through RV042 pptp server?

I am looking at purchasing a new Server, but one of my main requirements is to have remote access for users. What are the requirements for good remoting services and which server OS would provide at least adequate remoting services. That is being remoting that provides concurrent use, speed where things do not load slowly and perhaps ease of use, so users can access files.

One of our servers has lost the ability to access WAN side computers. For example, it can't ping google.com. It can, however, interact with LAN computers. One thing of note -- it is set up with a static IP and one-to-one NAT on the firewall (sonicwall)When we disable the one-to-one nat on the firewall the server is able to ping out. We do need to keep the one-to-one nat up though -- as it provides access to the site the server hosts

I am looking for ways to access (1) my (own) web server (with IIS 6/Apache) (HTTP)(2) my IP/Network cam (RTSP)from my smartphone (3) from "Internet". I am a .NET-system developer but my networking skills are very poor.My problem is that there are obstacles, i e an evil firewall (4). Since my web server (1) and IP/Network (2) cam are behind it (4), I have absolutely no idea how to access them from my smart phone (3) from Internet. My ISP doesn't allow port forwarding, but I know that there is a Socks5 server which I can reach @port 1080. I believe that I can use it somehow? Is it possible to reach my web server at all from outside the firewall? How? Are there any other solutions for me except for changing my ISP?

I run a web server behind a D-Link DIR-655 (Rev B). I have port 80 opened and forwarded to my servers IP and a domain pointed at my external IP. I can access the server without issue using the domain or external IP from outside of my network, but I can only access it via the internal IP from inside my network. Using the domain or the external IP just gives me a timeout error. I had a Linksys router previously and didn't face this issue.

I've tried all the command prompts I've found and tried "Obtaining DNS server automatically" as well as the default numbers on some forums but nothing is working.I can connect to this same network on my iPad with no problems and this laptop can connect to an alternative wifi as well.

I've got this problem about accessing a file server in my work office.
First, I used to have a desktop PC connected via ethernet cable to a wireless router (there's only one connection in this office but there are two of us, so we set up a router), and I was able to acces the file server by typing "\SERVERNAME" in the RUN command windows. I brought my laptop and I connected it to the router via wireless. After I tried accessing the server the same way I used to (typing "\SERVERNAME") but I got the "Windows cannot acces \servername". Well, I said, I'll try by connecting via ethernet cable, but I couldn't connect either. The only way I can access is by disconnecting the internet cable off the router and plugging it in my laptop's ethernet port. But the issue is that we've only got one connection and some other people connect wirelessly too. I can't understand why if connecting an ethernet cable to the router's LAN port, I was able to access the server from my desktop computer but when I tried the same way from my laptop I could not.Internet connection works fine in my laptop. Networks settings are ok i think. My laptop has Windows 7 and my desktop has Win XP.

I have a VPN with a number of servers where we are doing some software development. We have a TFS, Web, App and SQL Server etc.. inside a private LAN which is accessible via VPN. Nothing inside the private network can access outbound. However, I would like to open the Web Server on the private LAN to be able to be accessed via http(s).As we develop the software I want to access the site from the internet. It's a fairly simple setup.DSL > Modem > Home Lan. On the Home Lan I have a Server (2 ethernets) connected to the modem router and the other card to a hub. This server acts as the VPN server, DHCP etc.. for the Private LAN.The web server I want to be able to access from outside is the one inside the private network. Any recommendations?fyi, I'm not a networking guy, I hacked my way through setting up the private network through a number of great YouTube videos, that saved me a lot of time.
