View 1 RepliesI am having a problem with my Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently moved into the dorms of my college and tried connecting my laptop to the internet using an ethernet cable. It worked, so I decided to try and play Xbox Live through the use of the ethernet cable and it did not work. After messing around with it and failing to get it to work for my Xbox 360, the ethernet decided to quit working for my computer as well. (To try and get my Xbox to connect to the internet with the ethernet cord, I tried network bridging by bridging the ethernet connection with the wireless connection, then unplugging the ethernet cable from the wall so as to connect it from my laptop to Xbox 360. This didn't work so I just deleted the bridge. This is when the problem started happening as the local connection stopped appearing.) I am able to plug it in and see that in the Network and Sharing Center, however, it shows up as being unplugged. After a couple seconds though, it disappears. If I click on it fast enough, it shows up with an Error Code 45 after looking at the properties. I have tried typing in ipconnfig /all and the ethernet connection doesn't show up there either.

The trouble shooter (Windows 7 home 64) says it canning detect the cord. But the cable works fine on my other computer. The network adapter is a Nvdia nforce networking controller. All the drivers are up to date. The computer was completely formatted so it's a blank slate
View 8 Replies View RelatedToday when I came home from school, I opened my computer like everyday. Suddenly I noticed that my Internet isn't working. It said I need to connect the Ethernet Cable. Well, my cable sometimes gets loose, so I tried to tighten it up a bit but that didn't work. I tried the cable with another computer and it works fine. I checked device manager and everything should be fine there.computer is running Windows 7 Professional.Drivers are up to date, and nothing changed in the computer since yesterday when it was still working. Could it be just that the Ethernet cable port suddenly broke down? I also tried another cable, and that didn't work either. I restored the system to previous saved point.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have a DSL connection which is established using a dial-up (PPPoE) modem. I recently bought a wifi router, and I found that when I plug the cable to one of the LAN ports and the laptop, it seems as if it wasn't connected at all (not detected on either side).I tried to format the system running on XP and I installed windows 7 but the problem persists. The only thing I can think of right now is using a crossover cable, but I somehow doubt that it should work since I tried plugging the router to my netbook (using a normal cable) and it worked like a charm. But maybe the fact that it's a quite old laptop (PB MV51-101) has something to do?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI tried 3 cables, and even one of them was new. So im sure the problem isn't the cables. For some reason, whenever I connect a ehternet cable to my computer, I cannot seem to get internet connection through it. Some days ago I installed this Wireless Lan device from a CD, that came with a sort of antenne I had to put on my computer. It works great, BUT its slow. Thats why i would like to go on internet with cable again. I remember one day to another that my computer didn't detect the cables anymore, what could be the problem?

My roommate and I are trying to set up the internet, but my computer won't detect the Ethernet Cable. Whenever I go to Network and Sharing Center and try connecting to the internet, the computer simply says "Windows did not detect any networking hardware", even though the light is clearly on and should be working. The cable is also new so it should be fine. I've also been looking around on the internet a bit, and in trying to fix the problem it looks like some of my Services are turned off, which seems to be causing the problem. However, whenever I try and turn them on, I get an error message saying "The dependency service or group failed to start".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Precision 340 and I went to connect my modem and wireless router to the PC via my ethernet cable. When I hook it up, my computer says new hardware ethernet controller and wants me to add it. When I try to add it, it will not let me and wants me to add the hardware via a disk or CD rom, which I don't have. Because I can't get the ethernet cable to work on the PC I can't get internet, however the wireless router still works......
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of Ethernet cables, however a lot of them have their latches broken off but that hasn't stopped my laptop from working but it isn't just that when i plug in a Ethernet cord with the latch into the port of the 660s no lights show up, plus when i put in another cable, i guess some regular cord , i do get lights but that doesn't connect me to the internet...and i am just confused.
So what i am trying to say is: Is there something wrong with the port?
Do I need to change my Ethernet Cable?
Or is there something else completely wrong that i am not seeing?
I recently bought an older Dell Inspiron 8100 just to lug around and it connects to wifi via a wireless card no problem. The problem I am having is that when I hardwire to the net via the ethernet cable, I get nothing. It's OS is Windows XP sp3
View 14 Replies View RelatedNow that the wireless on my Dell XPS 15 Z is fine, I've run into some problems with internet connectivity with Ethernet cable. Since the beginning, I wasn't able to connect to it through cable. When I connect my laptop with the cable, it says that it's connected, and that it has an internet connection. However, I can't get on it... My browsers don't have internet, and other programs can't connect either. (that while it says that it's connected to internet, quite strange)... I was thinking of some security adjustment that might block the internet connection or something, I don't know.
Oh, something that I should mention... I was able to get internet through Ethernet cable when there was a firewall... But when there's no security to the network... It isn't possible to have internet and it gives the situation described above. (any other laptop can connect with the network, so there must be some adjustment issue...)
I am running a rather old Dell Inspiron 6400 on Vista. Recently Virgin installed their latest Hub / wireless router for me and since then i cannot make a wireless connection to the internet. Before that I use to be able to connect to my old router (Linksys Wireless-G 2.4Ghz) no problem! I can connect via the ethernet cable no problems. The WiFi is on and even when I disconnect the ethernet cable, the bottom right hand corner symbol says that I am connected but I cannot load the internet and keeps giving me this message:"The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded."The Virgin Media support team ran a check and told me that my wirless adaptor is out of date and needs updating so I went on Dell Support, downloaded and installed the follwoing drivers but still no joy!
1) Broadcom diagnostic utility 440x 10/100 utility controller
2)Broadcom driver 440x 10/100 utility controller
3)Dell Driver Wireless 1390 WLAN Minicard
I have also ran a wireless WLAN utility diagnostic check through the control panel. In the Connection diagnostics, the Gateway IP Ping 'failed' and I think as result of that the Internet IP Ping, DNS IP ping and internet website domain name ping all 'skipped' but all else passed.
I just had recently replaced my Power Jack which had the ethernet port with it. Ever since I replaced it my Local Network Connection would give me an error (Network Cable Unplugged).

I've tried downloading software from Dell's web site, I bought (and returned) and USB to Ethernet cable, only to find out that it was a model ahead of what this machine needs.I've asked local repair place (Microcenter) what it might be, but they'll only tell me after I pay $70 just to open it up.Another repair guy said that it is probably the motherboard and it wasn't worth fixing. (Yet if it was, wouldn't the entire computer decide not to work at all?) [code]
View 3 Replies View RelatedDaughter is at college with brand new Vostro 3450. Was working on school network during summer but drops the connection multiple times during the day. She runs the Troubleshooting which then allows her to connect and 30 minutes later the connection is dropped again. The laptop works fine when connected to the internet via the ethernet cable. Here is what has been done by the IT support at the school.
1 - Deleted the Intel wireless utility as they thought it was "fighting" with the Windows software for control over the wireless.
2 - Increased the power for the wireless card to "high performance".
3 - Reinstalled Windows 7 to eliminate that there is a software issue.
4 - Replaced the Intel Wireless Card with new part sent by Dell.
Now the IT supports recommendation is to "get a new system" and that perhaps the Vostro's wireless card is "not compatible with their network". For Dell computers they sell the Latitude to the students.
My daugther likes the Vostro. She doesn't want to give it up. Wants the system to work. She had the laptop during the summer session and had problems with connection. The Windows software was reinstalled thinking there was a virus (although no evidence of one) and then she had no connection problems for the whole summer. She came home for 2 weeks and returned back to school and then the system would not work again.
I don't know what to do. Can I buy a USB wireless adapter for her to temporarily use until I can figure out how to fix this problem. Personally, I think there is a design flaw with the vostro.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo lately my computer's wireless network has started to get really bad, we have 100mbit, and it only gets about 0.3. This seems to be an issue with the range, or something, since if i move the computer right next to the router, it runs at about 50-60mbit. Now a few days ago i decided to get an ethernet cable to try and solve the issue, but my computer doesn't detect a LAN connection, only the wireless one ( atleast it doesnt show up among the other connections). Some weeks ago the wireless connection worked nicely, but now suddenly it doesnt anymore. Currently i'm typing this from an old mac computer, since my internet doesn't work at all on my pc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a WAG160N wireless gateway . Yesterday when i tried to power it on after a couple of seconds the power led was solid green and the Ethernet leds were blinking with no Ethernet cable attached to the router . The ethernet leds would keep blinking for minutes . I tried to use a screwdriver to do a hardware reset ( with power on ) and i noticed that the power led would start blinking green/red for minutes . I tried to use another wired router which i have for backup and it could connect to the internet normally without a problem.
What the green / red blinking power led means ( power led is green and then changes to red and then it starts over ) ?
I have a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista 32 bit. When i plug in a cable i get nothing, no error, and the comp does not recognize that a cable has been plugged in. I think that this started after my Hard drive failed and Dell replaced it but i'm not positive. No errors (? or !) in Device Manager and I can't find the Marvell 88E80XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller in device manager. I have attempted to Reinstall the drivers. The wireless is still working. I have one Light to the right of the port that is on all the time solid but no flashing with the cable in or out.
