Can I remotely locate my roommates wireless router from next to my desktop's modem using 50' ethernet cat 6 cables, and will unshielded cables suffice? Will the 50' from modem to router and 50' router back to desktop ( total of 100') noticeably degrade the signal my desktop receives?

ISP : Charter Communications
Modem : Motorola SURFboard SB6121
Router : Linksys E1200
I started out installed on the CD and then I kept getting messages about not being set up and finally it kicked me out. So I started out with the basics, changing out ethernet cables and checking connections. I then tried cycling the modem, router, computer and still no go. As soon as I plug the modem straight back into the computer it kicks back on. So then I tried some other trouble shooting ideas on the forums with the last being MAC address clone, save changes, release renew IP, and finally another round of cycling and I still can't get it to work.

I am trying to allow an external website access to my http://localhost:8080. It is a trusted website.
I have a ZyXel Q1000 modem and a Trendnet TEW-452BRP router. The TRENDnet is serving a PS3, Xbox, Wii, and 2 iMacs and the ZyXel is serving the TRENDnet.
My public IP for the ZyXel is 65.xxx.xx.152 and it's IP address is 192.168.0.1 with a range of 192.168.0.2-254 My TRENDnet IP is 192.168.1.1 and a range of 192.168.1.100-199
I have setup a Virtual Server on the TRENDnet using HTTP, Protocol TCP 80/80 and LAN Server 198.168.1.109 (my iMac localhost). I have also setup Application forwarding and Port forwarding on both the modem and router (at different times, trying to resolve this).
Naturally none of those worked. I don't know if I need a Port forwarded or Application forwarding or the Virtual Server. Also don't know if either of those need to be on one or both devices.
All I do know is to access my localhost from the Internet, all I need to do is put http://65.xxx.xx.152 in the address bar of a browser outside my network, and my modem/and or router should forward the request to my iMac and my localhost:8080.
But every configuration I have tried does nothing of the sort.

I am having a problem with my Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

I had one straight through cable connecting one switch and a pc in my office. The cable is approx 90 metres in length. The cable has been cut in between by rat. Now can I join those 2 cables by a coupler, if so will it increase latency, what type of crimping is required, straight through or cross cables. I think 2 cross cables connected by a coupler becomes straight.

We have 2 internet providers and I would like to find some way to switch our 5 computers between the 2 internets without having to unplug the ethernet cables everytime someone wants to switch. Is there some type of switch we can buy for each computer to do this or is there no such thing?

i have a DSL connection which is established using a dial-up (PPPoE) modem. I recently bought a wifi router, and I found that when I plug the cable to one of the LAN ports and the laptop, it seems as if it wasn't connected at all (not detected on either side).I tried to format the system running on XP and I installed windows 7 but the problem persists. The only thing I can think of right now is using a crossover cable, but I somehow doubt that it should work since I tried plugging the router to my netbook (using a normal cable) and it worked like a charm. But maybe the fact that it's a quite old laptop (PB MV51-101) has something to do?

I was looking for flat LAN cables so it would go under my door to the router located in another room. When I search for "flat ethernet cables" on Amazon, I get a bunch of results on "snagless" ethernet cables.
This is slightly cheaper than flat cables and it's from Belkin. Do the 2 terms mean the same thing (ie. flat/thin)?

I live in a frat and I am currently researching how to design and configure the most efficient network for the house. However, one of the other big problems we have is connectivity of our ethernet cables. We have an IT room with 2 switches that feed ethernet cables to all parts of the house and connect to an ethernet box in the wall where we can simply wire in our internet connection. We have wireless routers too but to keep the bandwidth usage across the WAP's I want to let people use the wired connections. However, many of the connection in the house do not work at all. I plug in my laptop to the wall jack and it gives me the No Internet Access notice. I don't understand why it works in some rooms and not others. All jacks seem to go into the same switches at the other end so I cannot figure out what the problem could be.

I bought a new modem (Zyxel P-660H-D1) few weeks ago and since then my internet has been alot slower than before. When i start up my computer, it isn't actually that slow at first... it starts getting slow after around 10-20 minutes. I also started getting bluescreens from time to time. My downloads aren't that much slower then before, but loading internet pages is painfully slow and online games are lagging alot. This is also happening with my xbox360, so I don't think it's my computers fault. With my old modem (Telewell EA-501) I was getting around 6Mbps, but with the new one its only around 1-2Mbps. My ping is also very high (around 400ms) and I have some packet loss. My jitter is 200ms.

I do not have access to internet (I'm on some unsecured internet from around here now, very slow). When I start the internetdiagnostics from windows, he says it's the modem or the connection from laptop, router, modem to internet. However, the lights indicating internet and dsl on the modem are brightly burning and the router shows nothing abnormal too.
I have a WPA2-PSK security, the modem is Zyxel. Also, the ethernetcable portal on my laptop is broken, so I can't do anything non-wireless. My phone has the same problem with this internet, it can get a connection, but no internet.

I bought a DIR-655 last week and have a very odd problem: have set up the DIR router after my Modem/Router Netgear DG834 when i connect a laptop with LAN cable to one of the LAN ports on the DIR i can access internet without any problem. When i search wireless network from my laptop the DIR turns up and have excellent reception(4-5bars).
This works fine when i start for ex. google, but then after clicking on a link or trying to access any other webadress, the internet disconnects?? (i still have excellent reception between the router and laptop.)It also seems that the internet connection is reestablished automatically after 1-2 min, but disconnects again after a few minutes. I have the same issue with WII, the WII console finds DIR but when I'm trying to update the firmware in the WII console the connection stop working.
One more Q: when i connect LAN cable from modem to DIR i get no internet access, should it be that way? How u are suppose to connect LAN cabels between modem/DIR/stationary PC?

I've had a D-link N750 DB running smoothly for about a year now. Suddenly the other day, for no apparent reason, it dropped its connection to the modem and refuses to acknowledge it anymore. The router still broadcasts the network ESSID and accepts external connections.
First, the cable modem appears to work just fine, as I'm able to hard wire with a laptop and get consistent internet service. Second, when in the router settings, the ethernet connection status reads not detected, so it seems to me that the router hardware has no idea its got anything plugged into it.
I've tried the standard power cycling methods in various orders about a dozen times. I've replaced cables and done a hard reset of router settings. No dice.

I'm using D-Link DWM-156 3.75G HSUPA USB Adapter. The problem I'm encountering is the router does not auto detect the 3G USB adapter when I power up the router. The router will detect the 3G adapter only when I plug out and plug in the 3G USB adapter. I used to have the same router but version 1.2. Version 1.2 does not have this problem.

I have reliance ZTE AC2726 modem and i am trying to connect it with using the latest firmware version 121123. Router is able to detect the modem but when it tries to dial the connection is not established and reset the router after retrying 2-3 times. It was working perfectly fine earlier when i was on 120309 firmware version. So i tried downgrading my firmware version to 120309 and again it started working. I am not sure why the latest firmware version is not working with this device. Ideally the new firmware versions for a router should fix the existing issues and all the modems which were working earlier should work.

Moved into a home that has a wiring closet in the basement. Typical wiring closet setup, Cat 5 cables and Coax cables from the house outlets terminate there. There is a Suttle sam v8m voice distribution module installed. Looks exactly like the one in this user manual:Page 5 of 8, Wiring Diagram.URL,However, there is NO Sam D8 switch below installed in the wiring closet. The Cat 5 cables from the home outlets enter the wiring closet and plug directly into the Sam V8m.Can a comcast modem be connected to the Shuttle Sam V8m to make the Cat 5 outlets hot? Or, does the Sam D8 (or similar) need to be installed?

Essentially, I have a spare desktop computer I'd like to turn into a web server, but my modem and wireless router are very difficult to work with. I installed Apache HTTP and successfully hosted a test page which can be accessed anywhere on the LAN. However, I'm having trouble setting up the server to be accessed from my external IP address.
I was supplied with a ZyXEL EQ-660R DSL modem by my ISP (CenturyLink) and bought a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router in which to connect my laptop and spare desktop.
ZyXEL's website is not useful, and I don't think much of the problem is with the Netgear router. I've played with many settings and have tried to forward port 80 from the modem, but I've had no luck.

I need to connect these devices:
- Some computers.
- A Cisco Catalyst 2960 switch (computers must be connected to this switch)
- A ADSL router Zyxel P-660HN-T1A with WiFi (the switch must be connected to this router)
In my company we have at least 10 computers which were connected to Internet using a WiFi connection. But now we need these computers connected to a wired line and this router has just 4 Ethernet ports which are not enough obviously. So we bought this 24-port Cisco switch to connect all the computers and I don't know how to connect it to the ADSL router and what configurations to set up in order to have access to internet in every computer connected to the switch.
